The need to get away to clear her head was the only thing Brie could think about as she edged her car to the maximum speed limit allowed by law. She was never one to follow the rules normally, but she was too far stuck in her head to think about trying anything particularly reckless at the time as her mind raced through the contacts at her disposal to help Brady out of the situation he was in. Inching her car toward San Diego, her mind flashed to the timid PI she had hired to help her with a case when she was still in law school, and for the first time since Brady's arrest, she felt a small glimmer of hope.

Nick was many things, but she knew the one thing he was was loyal, and that he would be able to help her figure out how the gun ended up where it did and who put it there. There was no doubt in her mind it was planted, but the question was by who? In Virgin River, there were too many kind people that would never think of harming a hair on her brother's head, but there were also people from the wrong side of the tracks that had too much to gain by removing him from the picture. It was those people she wanted looked at, and also Mike. She couldn't put her finger on it, but there was something about his personality that rubbed her the wrong way.

After finally getting off the blacktop that seemed to stretch on for miles, Brie checked into the nearest hotel and searched her phone for the right contact. Pressing the 'CALL' button, she held her breath and twisted her hair around her finger while she waited.

He-hello?

"Hey, Nick. It's-it's Brie. Listen, I need a favor."
