One month. One month as a married woman and Katie was loving every minute of it. She never thought she would get her first choice of assignments, but she did like working for the counterterrorism division. It was going to take time to work her way to the BAU and she was ok with that. Experience was always a good thing. And now their lives were about to change again. "Spencer!" He always came running when she called his name.
"What's going on? Are you okay?"
"I'm great, I just did a pregnancy test. We're going to have a baby!"
Spencer grinned remembering the time Emily asked if he was going to little baby geniuses. "You're glowing, Katie." She was beaming with happiness. He felt happy as well. When he was growing up he never dared to imagine finding someone as kind as Katie who wanted to spend her life with him. "Come on, we have to tell my dad!" she said excitedly.
Aaron glanced at Dave as he yawned
"You've been really tired lately, everything ok?"
"Went to the doctor today. He says I have congestive heart failure, stage 4."
Dave was shocked, the man who took morning runs and ran five marathons, loved his veggies, drank delicious vino.
"Have you told Katie yet?"
"No but she texted me to say she's coming over with news herself."
"Hello!"
"Were in the living room, Kit Kat!" Hotch called becoming nervous.
"I'm right here, Hotch." Dave told him.
Now Katie wasn't expecting to see the weight gain. He looked exhausted too. "Daddy, are you okay?"
"I'm fine," he replied, not looking at her. "Then why are you not looking at me?"
Finally, he did and smiled at her weakly. Hi, sweetheart, you look beautiful, almost as though you were glow.." He trailed off, his smile fading. "I'll be right back."
"Uncle Dave?"
"He's right. He said you have news. Im guessing it's a little Bambini, si?"
"Si!"
"Congratulations to the both of you!
"Thanks, buts what's wrong with Dad?"
Katie knocked on the bedroom door trying not to cry. "Dad?"
"Come in."
"OH Daddy, I'm sorry."
"No, I'm sorry, I should have taken better care of myself I tried, no I wanted to be here for you, for my grandchildren."
"Were not going to do this! You will be here. You'll see the little G-man were going to name after you. Well make it, we just have to believe!"
He nodded then started coughing. It was getting a bit hard to breathe but he didn't say so.
"Can you get me some tea please?"
"Garcia blend or Chamomile."
"No one relaxes with Garcia brand." He said with a smile.
"Well, that's true. I'll be right back."
Something clicked when Katie started making the tea. "No! Dad!" she cried, knocking the mug onto the floor, and running back upstairs.
When she got there, Katie knew. He was gone. She climbed onto the other side of the bed and laid down beside him. She reached for his hand then placed her other on her stomach. "My sweet little one I'm sorry that you won't get to meet the most amazing person I have ever known."
She noticed a small notebook next to him and opened it. "He'd been writing a journal and never mentioned it.
There was a note on the first page: To my Katie Kat Love Daddy Hotch.
I'm Starting this journal the night before we leave Seattle because I need to write down how proud I am of you. Every day you amaze me, sweet girl. All our challenges in life have made us stronger, And I know that your mother and Gina are proud of you too. You're on the path to starting an extremely rewarding career. I know I was a bit of a downer at first regarding you dating Reid, but I don't think you could have chosen a better person. He's so much better than that Greg guy who wanted to marry you the same day he met you. Proud to have him for a son in law and know he'll take good care of you.
Ill never forget your fighting spirit especially when we wouldn't let you have your way. I'll be watching over you forever "And, Katie, just remember I love you and I wish you enough."
