Song: Towards The Sun

Artist: Rihanna

Pairing: Benny/Ethan

Turn your face towards the sun

Let the shadows fall behind you

Don't look back, just carry on

And the shadows will never find you

It had been a rough few years for Ethan and Benny. Ten, to be exact. You see, during junior year of high school Benny had dropped out of school to join a rock and roll band after a local talent agent had seen them one time performing at a karaoke bar just for the fun of it. The agent had really liked Benny's performance and had offered to represent him in the musical career world. He had told Benny that he would make him a big star in the music industry.

The spellmaster jumped at the chance at fame and had accepted the offer. And true to his word, the agent guy did just that. He made Benny the biggest rock and roll singer EVER. Benny was the lead singer of a rock and roll band called Rox Magix. They were a big hit and everybody loved them. Especially, the ladies which Benny really enjoyed.

Turn your face towards the sun

Let the shadows fall behind you

Don't look back, just carry on

And the shadows will never find you

As a result of all this instant fame and popularity in his music career, Benny had started to lose touch with his life back home in Whitechapel. He had bought his grandma a large manor to live in, in Whitechapel, but she had declined stating she was perfectly happy in the little home that she was at now. So, instead, Benny just made it his new place of residence after he had turned 18, a year later. Whenever he was in town he hardly ever said a word to anyone or even hung out with any of this old friends. Including Ethan.

Instead, he was much too busy living the lifestyle of the rich and famous. Which included girls, booze, money, and on some occassions...drugs. He'd spend his money on big and fancy things or basically whatever he wanted and didn't care. He loved his new life and wouldn't trade it for a thing in the world. He was finally a somebody. A big shot. And he loved it.

Soon enough, like all famous out of control rock stars. Benny's face would sometimes be plastered all over the news media about his out of control behavior. He had even been arrested a few times for public intoxication, DUI's, and a few out of control brawls with other people. In other's eyes, Benny's life was basically a mess. Especially, after Evelyn had passed away about 3 years later. He had lost it when he found out about that and had went on a drinking spree to numb the pain, which landed him in jail for a couple of nights after getting into it with the bartender. All because he had refused to serve him more alcohol after coming to the conclusion that he had, had enough to drink for one night.

Lost in the rock and roll

Got lost in a promise of a love I never know

Shadows chase me far from home

I remember when my heart was filled with gold

After seeing all the news reports on tv and in the newspaper, Ethan decided to pay the rock and roll bad boy a visit after learning of his latest return to town. He was scared for his best friend and what he has become after becoming a rock star. It had been a few years now since he last saw the spellmaster when he dropped out of school to pursue his future music career. Ethan would've have visited more sooner, but he had to focus on his own life at the moment which had meant trying to make good enough grades to graduate and to go to college.

But after seeing all the bad publicity on the news about his best friend, he just had to see him. Especially, to tell him something really important that he's been hiding from him for years now.

Sadly, the visit didn't go as he thought it would. At first everything was cool. Benny was very glad to see his best friend after all this time and had welcomed him into his very large home with open arms. At first glance to Ethan it had appeared as if he had been partying. Or rather...the party was still going on, that is, as beer bottles littered the room and people danced around obviously drunk or close to it. Ethan couldn't believe that this is what stardom has done to his best friend since forever. It sadden the poor seer. He knew that Benny was better than this.

And you know I've been burned

I've been burned I've been burned

You've seen me lose control

Benny had led him upstairs to what Ethan had guessed must've been his bedroom, to talk more privately and to catch up. Benny had offered him a beer, but Ethan politely declined as drinking wasn't his thing. Benny only just shrugged it off and then downed one himself, instead. He was really relaxed and comfortable looking while he just lounged about in this big comfy looking chair that was in the room. He propped up his feet up onto the arm of the chair, while finishing his beer. Ethan on the other hand, just stood there looking rather uncomfortable and awkward as he had no idea what to think about the more...bolder and out of character Benny in front of him. He's seen him on tv before, but it was even more worse just seeing it in person with his own two eyes.

Of course, Ethan asked why he didn't show for his grandma's funeral and Benny casually told him the reason why. He was in lock up for getting into a fight with the bartender in another town far away and that by the time he got out it and would've made plans to travel to Whitechapel in time for the funeral, it would've been too late. From there, Ethan then proceeded to go on to tell him all he'd missed while away on tour and whatnot. Benny nodded along as he spoke, but Ethan got the strange feeling that he really wasn't listening or just didn't really care all that much.

It was only then when Benny had asked what was going on with him and if he was alright was when Ethan got really nervous. At first Ethan thought about not telling him, but he realized that he had to. He's kept this secret from him long enough and now it was time to come out about it. So, he told him.

Ethan told Benny about how he's been harboring strong feelings towards him ever since 6th grade. That's when Benny totally lost it. Probably mostly due to the part that he was a little bit intoxicated from drinking, but he went off on Ethan like a crazy person. Yelling and screaming such harsh words at him. Telling him that he could never be friends with someone like him, who's gay. And then he even went as far to even tell Ethan that they weren't friends anymore.

All of this brougth tears to Ethan's eyes as he desperetly tried to explain himself to Benny. Begging for forgiveness and to tell him that he didn't mean it. That he didn't want to lose him as a friend. But Benny wouldn't listen as he was blinded by rage and alcohol. He got up in Ethan's face screaming for him to get out and to never see him again.

Feeling his own anger rise inside himself now, Ethan too went off on him. Telling him that he's changed and that he was taking his own life to nowhere. That the friend he once new and loved was gone and all that's left standing in front of him was an empty shell of booze, sex, and drugs, now. And how in the end, his own grandmother was even disappointed in what he's become. A loser bad boy rock star, who only cares about himself and nobody else. Especially, the people he left behind for no good reason just to become a famous nobody. Ethan then finished that statement by saying that he was disgusted with him now that he's seen him for who he truly is now, in person.

That was it. The next thing that either of them knew was the sound of a harsh slap across somebody's face. After that the room stood still and had grown very quiet now, as they both just stood there staring at one another with shocked and stunned faces. Tears soon came barreling down Ethan's face at what Benny had done, as he lightly touched the red mark on his face where Benny had just slapped him.

"Ethan, I-" replied Benny, trying to apologize for his ghastly mistake, but as he reach out to touch him, Ethan jerked back out of fear, anger, and hurt.

Soon after that Ethan ran out of the room, crying. Leaving only a very disappointed and devastated Benny behind.

It's not worth it's not worth it's not worth

My soul

Benny sat back down again, as he frustratingly ran his hands through his hair. He couldn't believe what he just did. After Ethan had so boldly spilled his heart out to him by telling him that he loved him, he just goes and...loses his cool like that on him by then going off and proceeding to slap his own best friend. What was he thinking?! He knew how hard it was for Ethan to finally come to turns with asking Sarah out that one year before their evil vice principle tried to wipe out every single vampire in Whitechapel. He knew that they had manage to clear up their little misunderstanding after defeating Stern and had decided to try dating again, but in the end it just wasn't meant to be. He remembers his grandma telling him that they had called it quits because it wasn't working out for them and had just decided to remain good friends, instead.

So, he knew how hard it was for Ethan to confess his feelings towards someone he likes. And here he goes and just slaps the poor guy just because he's been harboring feelings of love for him? God! He was such an idiot!

Benny sat there for a few minutes, thinking everything through. He thought about all the harsh words that were exchanged between the two just now and he had realized that Ethan was right. He had changed after becoming famous. And not for the better, either. He had been a horrible friend and an even horrible grandson to his late grandma when she was still alive. Like...who doesn't show up to the one person who's taken care of them and has raised them with nothing but love and support after all these years? Maybe Ethan was right. In her final moments on this Earth, maybe she really did felt disappointed in him. He wouldn't blame her if she did.

Was all the glitz and glamour that came with being famous really worth it, if it had meant losing yourself along the way? Losing everybody who ever cared about you before you became famous and popular? Losing your...soul, sort to speak?

No. It wasn't.

And that's when he made a decision. To better himself from this moment on.

Turn your face towards the sun

Let the shadows fall behind you

Don't look back, just carry on

And the shadows will never find you

He marched downstairs and delcared to all this party guests that the party was now over and that they all had to go.

But then after thinking about it and seeing how drunk most of them were, he then added those still sobber enough to get home on their own. If not then they were welcome to crash there, but would have to be out first thing in the morning.

He then returned to back upstairs to his room to sleep off his own slight drunken stupor a bit. He'd save the rest of his plan to put into action for the morning. When he had a more clearer mind to focus with, as well as the energy to get things done. He had a lot to do and even more to make up for in the future.

Lost my faith and trust

You and I know gold don't turn to rust

I still swear that we can reign

Like the kings and queens of better yesterdays

The next morning, after kicking everybody who doesn't live there out. Benny had called his manager to inform him that he was taking some much needed time off to find himself again and that he would no longer be a part of the band from that moment on. Oh, and he also told him that he was fired, too. Of course, the poor guy was shell-shocked by it, but Benny didn't give the guy the time of day to say more as he swiftly pressed the 'end call' button on his phone.

He tossed the small device onto the couch after turning it off, so he wouldn't be bothered. He knew that after that little phone call he just made to his manager that he would be blowing up his phone trying to get ahold of him to find out what was going on with him. To be honest, Benny didn't really want to talk to anyone, at the moment. He needed his space. Some alone time to sort things out. He needed to find the Benny that he once was again before all this mess began.

Don't you know I've been burned

I've been burned I've been burned

You've seen me lost control

An image then popped into his head. The image of him slapping Ethan and seeing the seer run out in tears afterwards.

Benny dropped his head in shame and guilt. He's never seen Ethan look so hurt before. And what's worse was the fact that he was the one to cause that pain. He'll never forget that image in his head and how he felt when it happened. It was one of his biggest regrets in life. A regret that finally opened his eyes to the truth. That he's lost touch with the person who he used to be before becoming famous. The person that everybody in his past had loved and cherished. The old him would never of dared hurt his best friend intentionally in such a violent and physical act like that. Not to mention, mentally as well, after all the mean things he just spat out at him, too.

It's not worth it's not worth it's not worth

My soul

Forget winning the 'best music award in rock and roll' award. He deserved the 'worst friend ever' award, instead.

It was time for a change.

Turn your face towards the sun

Let the shadows fall behind you

Don't look back, just carry on

And the shadows will never find you

Benny checked himself into rehab for his drugs usage problem and alcoholism, right away. He stayed there for a few months until he was deemed well enough to be on his own, but he still had to go to the regular scheduled substance abuse and AA meetings though, just to be safe.

So, he did for another year or two until he felt like he no longer needed it and could resist the temptation of drugs and alcohol without even blinking twice, on his own. It was a small victory on his part, but he still had a lot of work to do. This was only just the beginning to getting back to who he used to be. Now came the soul searching part, as he still had a lot to sort out on his own.

Where you gonna go where you gonna go where you gonna run to

When you get to the edge of the night

It's time you face the sky

After that, nobody had heard from or seen Benny Weir in days, which soon turned into months and then years. It was like he had just dropped off the face of the Earth without a trace.

The last known trace of Benny was when he had sold his big house and all of his expensive cars and other stuff, right before his sudden disappearance, which was only 4 years ago. After that he had left town, to never be heard from again.

Turn your face towards the sun

Let the shadows fall behind you

Don't look back, just carry on

And the shadows will never find you

Now, Ethan was standing over his mother's grave with a sadden expression on his face. She had just recently been buried. Today, in fact. Her funeral had just ended a few mintues ago. Everyone had cleared out except for Ethan, who wanted a few minutes alone with her. She had passed away after battling breast cancer. It was a rough battle, but in the end...the cancer had won.

So, now here stands the seer who was very close to his mother. He was always the momma's boy out of the two Morgan siblings, while Jane was more of the daddy's girl. Even though he still had his friends and his dad and Jane, Ethan still felt very much alone without his mom around. She was probably the only other person who understood him the most in this world. Besides, the one other person in this world who knew him all so well, too. Benny.

He broke down in tears, kneeling down onto his knees. It was like...he had lost all light and happiness in this world, now. At that moment, Ethan's very being and mind had begun to sink into a deep and dark pit of depression. He no longer had anybody to turn to. He's already lost his crush and best friend years ago. And now he's done lost his mother, as well.

Thinking about Benny had begun to stur up all those hurt and painful memories of what happened the last time he saw him. It still hurt to this very day. He tried to call Benny a few days after the incident to talk about what happened in a more civilized manner, but he wouldn't answer any of his calls and texts. Then on the news he had learned that he had fired his manager and quit the band just a day after it had happened. They then said how he had checked himself into rehab for a few months or so to get over his addiction problems. Ethan wasn't gonna lie, but when he had heard that he was sort a relieved to see that the spellmaster was getting the care and treatment that he needed to help get himself back onto his feet again. After that, there was another news report about a year or two later about how it seems like he had just vanished after completing his rehab treatment. He felt sort a sad and worried for the spellmaster then.

Even though it was a possibility that they were not longer friends anymore, he still cared for the guy. That wasn't going to ever change. After knowing someone for as long as they did and growing up together so closely, you just can't stop caring about them so easily and just forget as if you had never of met. The feelings he had for him back then, when they had their argument and break up as friends... Never left. He still loved him. No matter what.

Ethan cried even harder then. He cried for not only his dead mother, but also for his broken relationship with his former best friend. Not to mention he missed him dearly, too. He was heartbroken and alone now. With nobody to turn to. He wanted his mommy back. The last person he could turn to, but now...even though he could still turn her, she couldn't answer back. To give the words of encouragement that he need. To comfort and hold him when he felt sad or upset about something. To give him love when he needed it most. It was all gone now. He was alone. He felt...cold and empty inside, now.

She gave him the strength to carry on after the break up with Benny as friends. She was there for him to calm him down and to make him feel better with her kind words of wisdom and that reassuring smile that she always gave him afterwards. Telling him that everything will be alright and that in time Benny will see the error of his ways and will come back to him, asking to make amends with him. Wanting to reconcile and be friends again. That after a friendship like theirs, you can't just walk away from it so easily.

Of course, he thought she was wrong after the way things had ended with Benny slapping him in the end. That was the turning point that opened his eyes to the kind of person Benny had become now. He knew in a million years that the Benny he knew would never hurt him like that. Sure he could've taken the verbal abuse part, but what hurt the most was the physical part. The slap across the face. That's what had ended it all for him. The real sign that their friendship was over now. But hearing his mother say how they'll someday come to realize that they need each other again, did make him feel a little bit more better at the time. He decided to hold on to that small bit of faith that maybe things will be better between him and Benny again someday.

But as for right now, Ethan had lost that small bit of faith that that'll ever happen. With Benny M.I.A and his mother now dead. The world just seemed hopeless and bleak. He wrapped his arms around himself and lowered his head down further, shrinking in on himself as his heart was filled with despair.

There was only one other person left now who could cheer him up and make him feel less miserable. The one who he considered a brother. The one who broke his heart so many years ago, but still couldn't completely shatter it to pieces. He so desperately needed this person more now than ever. What Ethan needed right now was...his best friend.

Turn your face towards the sun

Let the shadows fall behind you

Don't look back, just carry on

And the shadows will never find you

Right when Ethan was feeling at his lowest, he was snapped out of his dark stupor by a voice meekly saying his name from behind.

"Ethan?" said the familiar voice, softly.

Ethan looked to see who was calling his name. His eyes went wide when he saw who it was.

It was Benny. Standing there with his hands in his pockets and a small smile on his face.

Ethan was shocked to see him. He thought he'd never see him again. Without thinking, he quickly bolted up and ran to Benny, embracing him in a big hug. He cried even more at the sight of the one person he needed right now. Benny.

The spellmaster did have to admit though, he was a bit surprised at Ethan's reaction. He didn't think he would just run up and hug him like this. But he also had to admit that it did feel nice to be able to hug him again, after so many years of lost contact. He wrapped his arms around the seer not wanting to ever let him go again as he enjoyed this feeling of being close to him again. Just like it used be back then. He didn't care that Ethan was staining his shirt with his tears. All he cared about right now was the person who was creating them.

"B-Benny. Y-you...came b-back." sniffled Ethan with his arms still around the tall male's neck.

"I did." he answered tenderly with a smile that soon fell, as he knew where this conversation was heading towards.

Once Ethan finally got all his tears out he broke the hug and took a step back to get a better look at the spellmaster. He then frowned. "But...why?" he then said, looking down sullenly. "You've been gone for so long now. So, why come back now?"

Benny could still see the pain that he had inflicted upon Ethan back then on his face and in his eyes. This wasn't going to be easy, but it was the right thing to do. Especially, if he ever hoped to regain what they once had as best friends all those years ago and hopefully maybe something more, as well.

"Because...of you, E." replied Benny hesitantly. He noticed when he said Ethan's nickname that the seer had flinched a little at the name, still not meeting his eyes. "I uh...heard about what happened...to your mom, that is. My condolences to you and the rest of the family." he went on to say in a sullen and apologetic kind of tone with a twinge of nervousness, too.

Ethan sniffled and wiped his eyes before sticking his own hands in his pockets, as well. "Thanks." he mumbled quietly to him.

"I know how close you two were and how you're feeling right now. You must really miss her, huh?" said Benny, looking at Ethan as he tried to ingore all this awkward tension in the air between them.

"Yeah, I guess." replied Ethan quietly again, but this time with a shrug. He still refused to look at the person before him.

And awkward silence fell over the two once again before Ethan finally broke it. "I thought I'd never see you again after what happened." said Ethan sounding a bit hurt in his words, as he looked up at Benny finally.

"I know. And I'm really sorry for what I did back then. Trust me!" confessed Benny honestly. "I did the one thing that I promised myself I'd never do and that was hurt you! And yet...I did." he said in regret. "I was stupid and selfish and I let it all get out of control. I let the rich and famous lifestyle get the best of me, E! And for that I'm sorry! I let it turn me into something that I never thought I would ever be! I let it change me into a monster. Metaphorically speaking, that is." he explained, adding that last part to clarify what he had meant by monster. "I guess what Unlce Ben said to Peter in Spider Man was true after all. 'With great power comes great responsibility.'" recited Benny, cracking a small amused smile.

A small smile also spread across Ethan's face at those famous words, but it soon fell again. "And yet...you did, Benny. You let all that fame go to your head and turn you into someone ugly. Someone who was no longer my best friend anymore. Someone who I thought would never...hurt me, as much you did that day." said Ethan, feeling all that pain and hurt and anger that he's been repressing for so longer now, beginning to rise up inside of him again.

Benny stook a couple of step towards him and took Ethan's hand in his. He could feel Ethan's hand shaking a little. "And I'm sorry for all it, Ethan. I truly am. It was just...I was scared when you told me that you loved me. I...I didn't want to ruin the great friendship that we had. I should've handle things better. I wish I could just...go back in time and stop myself from acting like such a fool. But...I can't. Instead, I let the alcohol get the better of me and take control when you finally told me that. I know how hard it is for you to confess your feelings to someone and yet...I acted like a complete and utter jerk about it. Yelling at you and telling you that we were no longer friends and that I never wanted to see you again. That I hated you when in truth...it was far from it."

Ethan looked at him with confusion in his eyes, now. "What do you mean?" he asked.

Benny smiled sweetly at him as he slowly reached up with his other hand to place it on Ethan's cheek. Upon reaction, Ethan at first flinched back at the sudden gentle touch on his face from Benny's hand. Afraid that he was probably going to slap him again. Benny knew his reaction was to be expected after the horrible way he treated him back then, but once Ethan saw that he meant no harm to him he let him do it.

Benny stared deeply into his brown eyes hoping that Ethan will see how sorry he really is. "After I had slapped you and you ran out, I soon quickly regretted my actions. In fact, that situation was what had finally opened my eyes to the truth. Of how much of an ass I've become over the years since my stardom. How I've pretty much abandoned everybody I cared about here in Whitechapel. The people who made me who I was before becoming a rock star. A kind, charming, and wonderful person with a bit of a mischievous streak at times. Ok, maybe ALL the time, but still." he said wholeheartedly, with a bit of chuckle at that last part.

He then frowned, as he looked down. "That's when I decided it was time for a change. So, I threw out all the booze and drugs I had stashed away in the house and then called my agent to tell him that he was fired and that I was quiting the band. After that, I went into rehab to get clean. Once I had completed it I decided to sell my mansion and travel the world in search of peace with myself. A little soul searching if you will about my life and where it's going and what I truly want in life." he explained sincerely in a sullen tone.

Benny then looked back up at Ethan. "Eventually, my mind started to wonder back to here, in Whitechapel and what everybody was up to, but...I was afraid that everybody would've been pissed at me and hated me for what I did to you and to them. Mainly, to you, though. So, instead of trying to call or write anybody I used a spying spell that allowed me to see and hear you guys without you knowing it, from afar. All I needed for the spell was someting with a reflective surface, really. That's when I heard about the news about Mrs. Morgan's passing and how her funeral would be held in just a few weeks. To be honest, I cried when I heard the news. And then that's when my mind instantly went to you, Ethan." explained Benny empathetically.

"Like I said before...I know how close you were to her and I also knew how badly this probably would've affected you, as well. So, I decided it was finally time to return home, back to Whitechapel...For you." he confessed honestly, never removing his hand from Ethan's face.

"Why, though?" questioned Ethan.

Benny smiled and instead of using his words to answer him, he let his actions speak for themselves, instead, by kissing Ethan on the lips.

Ethan was suprised by this and even though he didn't kiss him back right away, Benny understood, as he ended the kiss. Ethan's face was a bright red, now.

"B-but..."stuttered a dumbfounded Ethan to the spellmaster.

"The moment I regretted that slap was when I realized that maybe I really do have long and deep buried feelings towards you, E. I didn't want to lose you, but at the same time I was still very confused by my feelings towards you since the thought of liking guys was still knew to me. I know you had plenty of time to think about it for yourself before you finally decided to tell me, but as for me? Well...it was a strange thought to bare. Your best friend suddenly having feelings for you. So, I needed sometime to process and sort it all out before finally facing you again to tell you...that I love you, too, E. That's mainly what all that soul searching was about. To see, if my feelings for you were real or not and when did I start feeling this way about you." explained Benny sincerely.

Ethan looked away sadly. "Please tell me it's not too late, E. That mending what we had and taking it in a whole new direction is still a possibility? Even if you don't want to pursue being in a relationship together. Can we at least be...friends, again? And help each other at least heal?" pleaded Benny hopefully.

"Of course, I still have feelings for you, Benny. Even after all the crap you pulled during your stardom phase. I still want to be with you and to be your friend again. A tiny part of me never wanted to let that go. But...I'm just not sure if I'm ready to be in a relationship right now. Considering..." replied Ethan earnestly, trailing at the end to signify the obvious. Meaning, the sorrow and grief he felt over losing his mother.

Benny smiled and nodded. "I understand, E." he replied. "And I'll be here, whenever you need me to. I want to help you get through this dark time in your life, just as you had helped me, in a way, because that's what...best friends are for."

Over come with happiness and gratitude, Ethan rushed up to Benny and engulfed him in a hug. Tears following yet again. " I've missed you SO much! I'm so happy to have my best friend back!" cried Ethan happily.

"It's good to be back." replied Benny, hugging back with a smile.

With that, the hug ended and Benny had offered up his hand for Ethan to take. Ethan took his hand willing and together they walked off, leaving the graveyard to head back to Benny's grandma's house (which she left to him in her will) for a little catching up and to mend what was once broken.

Turn your face towards the sun

Let the shadows fall behind you

A/N: That's it my cool cats! The end to tune number 40! Wow! We're almost on our way to 50 fang-tabulous songfics already! Can you believe it?! Wow! :D

Anyways, sorry for the really long parts between the lyric parts near the end, there. There was just so much to write, but not enough lyrics to place in between them at that point of the chapter. But hey! It is a "one-shot" (sort to speak ;P), so of course it'll be a long one! Am I right?! Lol! ;D

And just in case you were wondering about Benny still owning Evelyn's house. Yes, she left it to him in her will, as stated at the end. Benny never sold it because it was his childhood home and had held so many wonderful and fond memories of her. So, he his heart wouldn't let him just sell it off like that. So, instead he kept it. :)

And by the way, let this be a lesson to you all who manage to get their 15 minutes of fame in, in the media. DON'T LET IT GO TO YOUR HEAD AND MAKE YOU INTO SOMEBODY YOU'RE NOT OR ELSE YOU'LL REGRET IT LATER ON IN LIFE! *giggle* ;P

But I hope all you awesome songficers out there enjoyed this one. Especially, you Bennyweirlover17! Since you are the one who requested it and all! Lol! ;D

Until next time, this be your fangtastic DJ, MBAV fan66 signing off for now! See all you cool cats around later! PEACE! :D
