Ok, before I start, I just want to say sorry for taking forever to make this chapter.
Anyways, here it is:
CHAPTER 2
ANOTHER BEGINNING - C
After the message winked out, I gaped at the screen like everyone else. Surely they were joking. Surely somebody would come out and yell, "Ha! Gotcha!"
Nobody did.
I saw an Octoling get up from his table and start running. Probably toward his house.
I decided I should do the same. Nobody was safe anymore.
When I got to my apartment, I heard sounds of battle from a few blocks down. A few moments later I heard someone yell, "Eat this!"
Either it was a fight, or a race to see how many hot dogs a person could eat.
For a second I think about jumping down there and helping. My dualies were in the closet. The window was open.
But then I realize that whoever it was, fighting down there… they probably were okay, right? I mean, nobody would run into a fight without some basic skill.
And then my mind flickers over to the other hand. What if they were in trouble? What if they just got ambushed by a bunch of idiots in an alley?
Another voice in my head went to a different area of questioning…
…what if they were an Octoling?
Now, I was no nice guy when it came to race. Yeah, I was a pretty big piece of crap back then.
But at that time, we were taught to DISLIKE OCTOLINGS. It was like in history class when the human race separated because of their skin color. Now, in 2739, here we were, just like the humans, separating because of what we looked like.
Now, back to where I was. Torn between two sides. Help them, or don't. Since we kind of had this dumb idea of ours burned into our mind, I picked don't help.
I know, I know, dumb move on my part. I was sure another person would help them. I walked downstairs, to the couch, and grabbed the TV remote sitting on the marble coffee table.
And then my "good guy but not viewed that way by everyone else" side got the best of me. I sprinted up the stairs, ripped open the closet, grabbed my Enperry Dualies, and jumped out of the window like I was committing suicide.
I turned into a squid and Super Jumped mid-air, toward the fight 4 blocks down.
When I was in the air, I saw three things that were unusual: 1. the sky was a weird shade of green. 2. I saw what looked like Octarian troops going down the street, and 3. SquidDonalds had brought back the MakoBurger, the burger that was only out for one week before they took it down from the menus. That's scientifically impossible. Nobody brings anything back from the menus once it's gone. But that burger was delicious. I don't know why they stopped selling it in the first place. Maybe someone made a petition to bring it back?
Ok, back to me flying like there was no tomorrow.
Once I spotted the person fighting, I immediately dived down and hit the ground hard.
When I got there, it looked like the kid had just barely lost. Three SANITIZED OCTARIANS were pinning him down to the ground. The shadow from a nearby house was hiding his face, so I had no idea what he looked like at first.
"Hey, jerks!"
All of them looked at me, and my voice decided to take a vacation.
Luckily, it came back as soon as it realized that there was a hurricane coming.
"You'd better let go of him, or I'll wail on you guys."
Nobody moved for a solid twenty seconds.
I shrugged. "…time's up."
I dodge rolled forward and all of the Octarians started firing at me. Their guns were like modified Splatlings, shooting faster and harder than anything that I had ever seen.
When I started to lose my footing, my eyes darted over to the wall next to the fleet. Immediately, I ran up to it and sprinted across it like gravity didn't exist.
Then I jumped off of it and shot an Octarian in the back three times, and it exploded in a ball of blue ink, my preferred color choice.
Once that happened, the two other sanitized Octarians seemed to realize who they were dealing with, and suddenly got a million times smarter.
When I shot at them, they dodged out of the way like it was nothing. They were landing more and more hits on me every second. I couldn't keep up, and every time they hit me, the slower and weaker I got. What was going on?
By the time I hit the ground, it was pretty obvious that I lost. It was even worse when I realized that I wasn't even able to save that other kid from these jerks.
When the Octarians got over to me and readied a net (since when did they do that?), someone kicked them to the floor and shot them with a Kensa Splattershot.
Then the person looked down at me and I realized that he had a silver knife, as well as that Splattershot.
When I looked over at the net that was holding the kid, it was SLICED OPEN. I guess I was right, he could take care of himself.
He threw aside the knife and held out a hand. I took it and he pulled me to my feet.
"Hey, thanks for helping me out," He said.
"No, thank YOU," I say back. Why was he saying thanks to ME? I didn't even do anything.
"At least you took one out. Those new fleets are annoying."
Then I checked my watch. "Hey, dude, I've gotta get home if I want to watch the Turf War tonight. See you."
"Bye."
I turned into a squid again and jumped to my apartment.
When I looked back, I saw that the kid I just saved was an OCTOLING. The same one I had seen at the square, running away.
If I had seen that when I was eight, I would have freaked out, but since we both helped each other...
...I didn't mind at all.
