"It's kind of interesting to think about, the sea and the sky," Aang said. Beside him, Katara was absentmindedly kicking the water, for once letting the water take its will instead of her bending it to her own.
"Really? How so?"
"The earth and the sky are said to be polar opposites. That's true to some extent, but they don't quite work in harmony. We have mountains and valleys and everything in between, and also tunnels and pockets of air underground. There's no balance."
"I see..."
"Then there's water and fire. Water and Earth stay together, leaving an open space above. Imperfect. Water and Fire don't mix. And we have volcanoes. Nothing works with Earth. And then concerning air, air only fuels a fire. They don't necessarily coexist."
"But water and air... how does that work?"
"The surface of water is nearly uniform. And there is always water on one side, air on the other. Like the Sea and the Sky. One perfectly complementing the other, discrete elements against each other."
"But the waves..."
"A sort of way the water reaches for the sky. And the winds and storms are ways the sky reaches for the water."
"It makes sense even with Sokka's scientific mindset. The sea and air intermingling and working in perfect harmony. I like it."
"But you know what's the best part?"
"What?"
"It'll last forever. The Sea and The Sky. I hope we do too."
And they snuggled a little closer together.
281 words. Whoops.
