Chapter 1
OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA
Jackson and Angie exited the plane with their carry-on luggage. Jackson got his phone out and called Vince. As Vince answered, Jackson put him on speaker phone as he and Angie walked through the airport.
"Hey, Jackson," Vince said when he answered.
"Vince!" Jackson exclaimed. "Are you okay? Did you get another flight?"
"Listen, Jackson," Vince said.
"What's going on?" Jackson asked. "Why am I not liking the tone of your voice?"
"I've decided to go to Austin," Vince replied.
"You mean like on a trip?" Jackson asked.
"I mean forever," Vince replied.
"Forever?" Jackson asked in disbelief.
"Is he serious?" Angie asked.
"You're not moving to Austin," Jackson said.
"I'm 26," Vince said. "I'll do whatever I want."
"Vince," Jackson said. "You're not thinking straight! You can't just move to a different state!"
"People relocate all the time," Vince said. "Besides, Judd and Grace said I can stay with them until I find a place."
"What is going with you?" Jackson asked. "Just come home."
"Well," Vince said. "Will's dead, you have Angie, and I can't date the man I love. So, what's the point of me coming back to Oklahoma?"
"I really don't want you to move," Jackson said. "It will be weird not seeing you every day."
"We can still talk on the phone," Vince said. "And you can come and visit. I just really need a change in my life. I need a fresh start. Besides, it's only about three hours from Corpus Christi. That's where the Selena Museum is!"
"Okay," Jackson said. "I understand. I'll miss you."
"I'll miss you too," Vince said. "Bye."
"Bye," Jackson said.
Jackson hung up and looked at Angie.
"I give it a week," Jackson said. "He'll come home."
1 MONTH LATER – STATION 37
Aaliyah, Mia, Regina, and Adrianna sat in the break room.
"It's been a month," Aaliyah said. "Why hasn't Vince come home yet?"
"I honestly don't think he's coming back," Regina replied.
"I heard Cap say Vince already has another job at a fire station in Austin," Adrianna said.
"That's not a good sign," Mia said.
"This is all Cap's fault!" Aaliyah said angrily. "If he hadn't been sleeping with Vince, none of this would have happened!"
"You do realize Vince is at fault too, right?" Mia asked. "They both knew what they were doing was wrong."
"We know Vince is your best friend," Adrianna said. "But you need to get over the fact that he's not coming back."
"No!" Aaliyah shouted. "I'm not accepting that!"
Tucker walked into the break room and Aaliyah looked at him with an angry look on her face.
"What?" Tucker asked.
"This is all your fault, you know!" Aaliyah shouted.
"You don't think I know that?" Tucker asked.
"We have to get him back," Aaliyah said.
"I've already tried," Tucker said. "He refused."
"Do you still love him?" Aaliyah asked.
"You know I do," Tucker said.
"Then help me get him back," Aaliyah said.
