Summary: "'Just when I begin to think I know everything about this place, I'm told something new.'" Loki's surprised to learn that Mobius understands the Asgardian language. Set around the first two episodes.
Every Word, Every Language
"This is bloody stupid. I shouldn't be allowed to be this tired." The words were in Asgardian, muttered under the breath of a rather annoyed God of Mischief. "Damn the TVA and their blasted Sacred Timeline. I'm sick of this nonsense."
Across the table from Loki, smiling knowingly to himself, was Agent Mobius. His eyes flickered up to the variant under his charge, who's frustrated face was buried in the file on the table in front of him. He shook his head ever so slightly, returning his attention to his own file to scan for any possible clues of the whereabouts of the other Loki variant that they were searching for.
Despite Loki's near-silent ranting, the archives were silent. The quiet was nice, but there was something about the god's complaints that warmed the analyst, even if a couple words were directed at him individually. He really didn't mind it all that much. Nonetheless, if Loki sat there for much longer, he was certain to have a problem on his hands; irritated variants never were fun to deal with.
"I need a break before I lose what last traces of sanity I haveā¦" Loki scowled, shifting in his seat.
Mobius, in the middle of reading a line, didn't glance up at him. "Go to bed, then."
He could practically hear Loki's head snap up at him the moment the last word left his lips. Eyes bore into him. "What did you just say?"
"Not that I'm bothered by it, but if you're going to keep complaining, you should go take a break." He elaborated.
"That's not what I meant. You spoke Asgardian."
"Yeah, so?"
"You let me talk about you behind your back even though you completely understood every word that I said?" Loki asked incredulously.
Mobius glanced up at him with a small smile. "Yeah, well, not everyone out on the timeline speaks English, you know?"
The god's brows furrowed even more. "Hang on- just how many languages do you speak?"
"All of them." He chirped warmly, closing the file in his hands and placing it on the table. "Same as almost everyone else in the TVA."
"Why'd the TVA settle on English, then?" Loki wondered.
Mobius shrugged. "The same way we agree on work hours, I guess."
He blinked. "Just when I begin to think I know everything about this place, I'm told something new."
"You still want that break? I could tell you a few other things you don't know."
"Anything to get out of here."
Mobius smiled.
