The doorbell went off and Berlin whipped away from the window. He wheeled himself to the door, turned the key and swung it open.
"Paris," he said smiling brightly. Paris bent to kiss him. "Had a great day?"
"Yup," she said. She removed her scarf and her coat and hung them around the doorknob. "You?"
"Yep. I've taken to bird watching. Also, I think I found our little thief."
"The orange kitten?" Berlin nodded. "I knew it!"
"We're not gonna be keeping him, are we?"
Paris shook her head. "Let me change and make dinner. I'll ask Florie to retire early tonight." She had a mischievous smile. "So that we can have a late night."
"I like the sound of that."
Berlin took her coat and hung inside her cupboard. Paris usually had plenty to talk about her class as soon as she came back. Lately, the stress had been getting to her.
She had thrown some of her stuff lazily on the table. He couldn't stand the mess, and it usually fell to him to organise them better. Besides, she was in the shower. Berlin chuckled. Her bag went in a little corner. Her hair clips in another. Sunglasses. And the watch-
Berlin picked it up. It's the silver one she loved to wear. There was a strand of hair caught in it. He gazed at it for a moment, and then carefully placed the watch back. He moved towards the fireside to get a drink and heard Paris step out of the shower.
He extended his cup to her. She took it and drank greedily.
"Thank you."
She wrapped her bathrobe around her as she made her way to the kitchen, Berlin following closely behind.
