Chapter II
Nicholas POV:
My eyes slowly started to open allowing me to see the sight of a roof that I recognized. I turned my head looking around the room. It was my living room. How the hell did I get here? Who brought me here? Did mum know about what happened last night?
I groaned as I sat up feeling a bit of pain from my side. I looked down seeing a bandage wrapped around my abdomen where I was stabbed. I could see blood on the bandages where I was cut. The pain might subside in the next few hours. I don't know why but I was able to heal a bit faster naturally, a blessing I guess.
"Fuck!" I groaned.
"Watch your mouth boy." My mum said walking around the corner smacking me upside my head. Uh oh! I'm in trouble now.
"Mum, I-"
"You can explain?! Explain how you were found outside of an illegal bare knuckle boxing operation?! Explain how you were found bleeding profusely?! Explain how I had to beg the doctors to let me take you home to better treat you?! Explain how I had to miss work because you decided to go pick a stupid fight?!" She rhetorically shouted at me. My head lowered looking down at my hands as I fiddled my thumbs. I raised my head momentarily seeing as her face, clear of acne, was as red as a tomato. Clearly she was angry and I honestly couldn't blame her.
"How long have you been fighting?" She asked.
"For a while. I was fighting for money."
"The money that magically appeared in the mailbox?" She asked. I look up looking into her brown eyes nodding my head.
"I should've known. I was stupid for thinking that it was your father just giving us money." She said, I clenched my fist in anger. It made me angry just to even hear about him. The bastard who couldn't cut it as a father was the reason we were even in this situation. He was the reason we sometimes struggled to pay bills on time. The reason we had some of the problems we had in the first place. I looked up, noticing how my mum was looking at me, looking at my fist more specifically. I looked down at my fist seeing electricity jolting around my fist. I unclenched my fist looking on as the electricity faded away.
"How long has that been happening?" She asked with a look of fear in her face. Why was she looking at me like that? Was she afraid of me? Was she afraid of what I could do?
"It happened for the first time last night. I was fighting and it just happened. I don't know what caused it."
She sighed, massaging her temple hearing the news that I just gave her. Seeing the worry written on her face. She knew something about this. About me. About whatever the hell was wrong with me.
"I knew this day would come. I need to get you to safety." She said standing up walking straight to her bedroom. Safety? What the hell was she talking about? I don't need safety.
"Mum, what are you talking about?" I asked standing up following her to her bedroom.
"I'll explain everything on the way to the airport. Go back a bag, I have to get you to Camp Half-Blood."
"Camp Half-Blood?"
"Just go get the bag ready. I'll explain everything." She said once more this time a bit more seriously than the last.
I turned around walking down the hallway to my bedroom. I grabbed a black backpack from behind the door and walked to the chest that held most of my belongings besides what was in the closet. The way she made it sound, I wasn't coming back. I hope she was wrong. As much as I made it sound like I hated being here, I loved some things about it. Like my mother. The memories whether they be good or bad, I loved every single one of them and I created them here.
This was home. Wherever my mother was, it was home. Wherever I'm going, I know she's not gonna be there so it can't possibly be home.
My mum and I were driving her Jeep Wrangler on our way to an airfield. Turns out mum had a friend by the name of Milo who owned a plane. He was going to fly us to the states. From what she said, Camp Half-Blood was in the states in New York. Long Island to be exact. That was the only thing she said but she didn't explain anything else and I wanted answers. No, I NEEDED answers.
"Alright, you said you'll explain everything." I said breaking the silence in the car.
"I did, Didn't I?" She sighed.
"Yeah, you did. And we've got about 20 minutes till we get there and I want answers."
"You're special, Nick. Extremely special. The things you can do. Your strength, speed, agility, reflexes, stamina, durability. All those abilities. And now you're starting to develop abilities involving electricity and lightning. All these gifts stem from your father."
"You mean the bloke who couldn't stick around to raise me."
"He has a reason. Your father is Zeus, King of the Gods."
"Zeus, as in the greek god?"
"Yes."
"That doesn't make any sense. Those are myths, they're not real."
"They're real. Very real. When you were born, I made a deal with your father."
"What deal?"
"As your powers started to manifest, I would send you to Camp Half-Blood. But I've been holding off on it, I was supposed to send once you started gaining your strength but I didn't. I instead taught you how to use it but I can't help you with this. This I can't avoid."
"In the myths, most children of Zeus, demi-gods, were hunted by Hera in anger and jealousy. If what you say is true, then why am I not hunted?"
"You remember when we first moved here."
"Not really, I was like 2."
"Well, here in Australia, it's a bit of a reach for the gods. They don't really have that much of an influence over here which is why we were safe here but I fear as you grow stronger, it draws more attention."
"I don't understand why I have to leave. With my strength, I can protect us."
"We're not gonna argue about this Nicholas. It's for your own good." She said shutting down the conversation. I knew it was over for a while but I had just a little bit of hope that I could somehow persuade her into letting me stay but one thing about mum, when she made her mind up, there was no changing it.
I turned my head looking at her, looking at her face for what might be the last time. I don't know how long I'm gonna be at this Camp Half-Blood but I wanted to get a good look at my mother before I go. My mum had long honey blonde hair with dark brown eyes. Mum had an angelic face for a woman her age, she wasn't old but she wasn't young either. She was 40 and for a 40 year old, she looked good. I had a hard time fending off men who would try to get to her but I did my best and that was the reason there was no other man living in my house.
I couldn't focus my full attention on my mother as I saw a lion in the corner of my eyes. A lion in Australia? Roaming free in the wild? That can't be right. The lion had golden fur and appeared to be the size of a Ford F-150 Heavy Duty edition. The creature had shiny silvery claws and fangs that gleam like stainless steel.
"Mum?!" I said, getting her attention.
"What?"
"Look!" I said pointing, making her look and see the lion but when she did, it was too late. The lion headbutted our jeep from her side making us start to roll.
Mum decided to take a different route to her friend's airport. A route that involved several hills which proved to bite back on us now. We came rolling down the hill, uncontrollably until we collided with a tree stopping us in our tracks. I grunted as the tree collided with my door. I groaned as I felt my seatbelt tuggined into my abdomen as I hung upside down. I groaned in agony as I felt pain in my body. I turned my head seeing my mother hanging upside down with a cut on her forehead.
"Mum?" I asked but received no answer. Dammit, she was unconscious.
"Fuck." I groaned. I heard the roar of the dastardly lion that attacked us. It seems he was gonna hunt me down till I was dead. Mum was right. The more powerful I got, the more attention it drew. I mustered up enough strength to reach for the glove compartment taking the gun my mum kept for protection and then moved my attention to my seat belt buckle, unbuckling it allowing me to fall from the seat and through the windshield breaking the glass as my body collided with the glass.
"Shit." I cursed feeling the effects of that impact. I didn't know if I was bleeding or not but definitely after that I had to be. I rolled away till I had enough space to get up to a vertical stance. I turned my head looking to see if I could see the lion but I didn't. Now granted, it was late at night around 11 so the creature seemed to have the nightfall as his advantage. I walked around to my mother's side grabbing a hold of the door handle, ripping it off the hinges effortlessly with my great strength. I grabbed a hold of my mom's seat belt, ripping it off and grabbing a hold of her body before she fell onto the ground much like I did.
I heard the lion's roar again, making me turn my head back to see the golden lion running towards me and mum. I aimed the gun at the lion, pulling the trigger to shoot at the lion but the odd thing is, the bullets seemed to just bounce off like this thing was invulnerable. The lion was still running at me full speed, out of instinct I tried to gently place mum down as quickly as I could to roll out of the way allowing the creature to headbut the Jeep much like he did earlier.
The lion quickly shook out of this while I rolled to my feet looking at the lion. The golden lion turned his head looking at me with his fangs out. I rose up to my feet staring daggers into the lion's golden eyes. He and I circled around like wrestlers in a wrestling ring, not giving up our gaze. He roared looking to try to strike fear into my soul before he came running towards me. He lunged at me with his claws drawn looking to cut me into pieces but I quickly rolled under it and got to my feet but the lion had quickly regained his dominant stance waiting till I made it to my feet turning around slashing me across my left pectoral muscle making me scream out in agony as I dropped down on my back feeling blood seeping from my wounds.
He took this chance to climb over me with his mouth open. I quickly put my hands out on his mouth, careful not to touch his fangs. This beast was strong. Very strong. I struggled trying to hold it's mouth apart. I grunted as I kept the hold mustering up enough strength to hold them apart. I looked at my hands seeing jolts of electricity around my fist. I felt stronger right now. Strong enough to get rid of this beast.
I watched as my electricity spread through the body of the lion making him roar out in pain before I ripped it's jaw wider than it was supposed to go. I felt his body going limp as electricity flowed through his body. His body fell off to my side lifeless. I panted for my breath as I turned my head seeing my mother still unconscious. I raised my hand to reach out to her but I couldn't move my body. I heard a loud crack in the sky making me turn my head to see lightning in the sky. Lightning. Lightning was the last thing that I saw before I blacked out.
A/N: So in this chapter, I explain why Nicholas was never hunted by monsters as a child as best as I could. In Australia they have a different brand of mythology so they don't really believe in the greek aspect of things but I tried to explain it as best as I could for it to make sense.
I kinda wanted this to be an AU where Annabeth, Percy, Thalias, etc. but I might change it if that's what you guys want then let me know. I have decided that I will be taking a few OCs for this story, key word in that a few so message me and let me know if you're interested.
But anyway next chapter, Nicholas will be in Camp Half-Blood so we'll see how that goes.
Until Next Time!
