Definitely Maybe

Sofia smiled to herself as she stepped out onto the balcony outside the Tanguan palace's ballroom. Inside, Zandar's party was in full swing. James and his friends laughed boisterously as they exchanged stories of adventures they had been on during the summer break. Meanwhile, Amber, Hildegard, Clio, and some other princesses were sitting at a table talking and giggling amongst themselves.

Sofia, who had decided to get some fresh air, ambled to the balcony's railing, leaning on her folded arms as she gazed up at the sky. It was a beautiful, clear night. The moon and stars sparkled like jewels in the velvety black sky. The princess sighed in contentment as she spotted a few constellations. It's so peaceful out here, she thought.

"Hey, Sofia!"

The auburn haired girl turned toward the dark haired boy who had just exited the ballroom and was making his way toward her. "Oh, hi, Hugo. What are you doing out here?"

Hugo smirked, stopping beside her and leaning on the railing. "I could ask you the same thing."

"Oh, I was just looking at the stars," she said, turning her gaze back to the night sky. "They look ah–mazing tonight."

"Yeah, the stars are great," Hugo mused, barely glancing up at the millions of twinkling gems that dotted the cloudless sky before looking back at the girl beside him. "But I think you're much more beautiful."

The princess could feel her cheeks growing warm. "Hugo…"

Just then, they heard music starting from inside. Through the glass doors, they saw some of their friends take to the dance floor. Zandar was dancing with Hildegard. The Friezenburg princess was trying hard to look disinterested, but she couldn't seem to hide the delicate blush that blossomed on her cheeks when Zandar pulled her closer. Sofia smiled in amusement when she saw Desmond and Amber waltzing together. The poor boy seemed to be focused on not stepping on his partner's feet, but he soon relaxed.

"Do you want to dance?" Hugo suddenly asked.

"Sure," Sofia smiled as she took his offered hand. "Do you want to go back inside?"

"Actually, I like it better out here." He gave her a dashing smile. "I get to have you all to myself."

"Oh, Hugo," she giggled as he started leading her in a waltz.

They spun around the balcony as the moon bathed them in its silver light. The rest of the world seemed to melt away, leaving just the two of them dancing in the clouds. They were brought back to reality a few minute later when the song ended, and a much faster one began.

"I've missed you, Sofia," the prince murmured, raising one of her hands to his lips and kissing the back of it. "I haven't seen you much now that we go to different schools."

"I know," she sighed. "Maybe we could spend time together on weekends when we're not busy."

"Yeah, maybe." He grinned. "Maybe we could take our horses out for a race or go ice dancing."

Sofia laughed. "Definitely maybe."

The two of them laughed before Sofia took Hugo's hand and led him back inside to rejoin the party.

A/N: Look at that! I wrote a Hugfia story! Why not? It's HugfiaWeek, and I decided to show some goodwill. It's a bit late, but this is for the Dance prompt. Huzzah for Hugfia!
