"Kai-nee, look at this! Look!!"
A petit bluenette ran for all she was worth, small legs carrying her towards the patio, where a much larger, and slightly threatening, ravenette rested against the wood.
Said ravenette lifted his head, choppy bangs lightly obscuring his vision, and he tiredly grinned as the navy haired child reached him.
"Hey Samara, what's up?"
His eyes warmed as the little girl practically glowed, a large smile stretching across her tan face. For a moment, he revelled in the fact that she looked exactly like their mother, but a warmer version.
"I learnt how to do something really, really cool! It was super duper hard, but now I'm a pro!" Samara claimed proudly, smile only getting wider and more brilliant as she spoke. She had gotten her quirk a few months ago, but she hadn't been very good at using it.
Kainen shifted his body, brushing his locks out of his eyes as he gave Samara his undivided attention.
"Go on then, princess. What is it?" He quirked a brow, lips lifting in the corners as she pouted at the nickname. Regardless, she held her hands out in front of her body, cupping them together as she closed her eyes to concentrate.
It was silent for a few moments, before a small clinking broke through the soft wind. Kainen's eyes were fixed on her hands, a proud smirk taking over his features.
In her hands, a clear glass materialised, and it's form changed, un-smoothly yet entrancing, into a little hummingbird. The surfaces of the bird weren't smooth, they were uneven and slightly jagged, but they caught the light in a way that cast small rainbows from the glint.
In short, it was beautiful.
Sweating slightly, little Samara opened her eyes, a triumphant grin settling easily over her quaint features. She held the bird up, turning it this way and that, creating little light circles to appear on the ground below them.
"See, Kai-nee? Isn't it cool? It's so pretty!!" She exclaimed, still inspecting the glass bird.
"Wow princess, that is pretty cool. Not as cool as me though. You'll get close eventually," Kainen said, voice breezy as he climbed to his feet.
Samara pouted, eyes narrowing as she poked her tongue out at him. As he started walking away, she fumbled to keep up with his large steps. She ran after him, and he simply laughed, crouching down in order for her to get on his back.
She laughed, a light, airy sound, and they continued on their way home.
That night, the two of them ate alone, though it was not unusual. Samara stayed up a little late in her room, holding the bird under the light, softly smiling as she admired it. She knew she wasn't as good as Kainen, but she had to get there. She wanted to stand with him someday.
She set the bird down carefully on her desk, then crawled into bed, content beneath the warm covers.
Her last thought before dozing off was along the lines of; Kai-nee, someday, I'm gonna be a hero. And better hero than Mum ever was. That's my dream.
A dream that will not come to pass.
"Samara Neizy. Talir Spire. Please report immediately to the headmaster's office."
Samara groaned, eyes a little hazy as she sent a scathing glare at that Spire punk. Her vision was slowly clearing up, but it was like looked through foggy glasses, and it made her feel anxious.
She knew why she was being called in. Earlier, Spire had been spouting about how villainous one of their classmates' quirk was. Samara had quickly tired of it, and found the best way to shut him up was to sock him in the jaw.
Their little fistfight soon turned into a near all out dual of quirks, hence the hazy vision and being sent to the office.
She made her way there, lagging slightly behind Spire so he could lead the way, her eyes were tired.
She made her way into the office, and froze. Kainen was sitting in one of the chairs, head resting on his palm; and his elbow propped up against the armrest.
He made eye contact with her, and she couldn't help but let out a small smirk. She then shifted her eyes to the old crone glaring at her in the seat left of Kainen.
She could see the similarities between Spire and the hag, although the woman had dark, beady eyes instead of the citrine she had come to associate with that mole-rat.
She took a seat beside Kainen, and glanced at Spire, pausing as she saw him pale and looking cautious. He made his way slowly to the lady, and sat beside her.
"Neizy-san, Spire-san, would you like to explain to your guardians why you are in here? If not, I would gladly do it myself."
It was quiet for a few moments, before Samara scoffed. Three eyes turned to her, although Kainen raised a hand to his forehead, massaging it as though being in that room was a drain on his very being.
Samara stood, posture lax as she gestured towards Spire.
"That punk was bad-mouthing a friend of mine, ridiculing her and calling her quirk villainous. Nira-chan wasn't there at that moment, so she couldn't defend herself. So, I took initiative. Basically, I decked him-"
She was cut off by Spire haughtily interrupted. She realised a brow as he stood, nose upturned as he glared at her.
"First off, Neizy, that Nira chick is whacko. Honestly, she's mental. Second, you didn't 'deck' me, you were losing. I bet your vision still hasn't cleared up-"
For the first time, Kainen spoke. He was on his feet now, towering over the middle-schooler. His aura was dark, and his smile was a little too sharp.
"Pardon me. Are you insinuating that quirks were used in this fight to the point of drawback? Also, I can clearly tell that you, Spire-kun, are a jackass. I probably would have annihilated you too. You should be grateful that Samara held back."
Samara smirked, and met Spire's glare full on. Th principal sighed, and excused them all. They left the school, and Kainen swung his arm around Samara's shoulders. She finned, and leaned slightly into him.
"So, Samara. Don't think your getting out of trouble. You know that overusing your quirk effects you vision, and, for all we know, it could be permanent. When we get home, you are going to take a nap, then meet me in the garden to train, okay?"
Samara, froze, then a warm smile lit up her face, and she hugged him tight. With a gleam in her eyes, she said,
"I'll meet you there Kai-nee, don't expect to win."
She didn't win. In the end, no one did.
"KAI-NEE!! KAI-NEE!! COME ON, PLEASE!!"
Samara coughed, dust and smoke entering her lungs, as she sprinted around in the burning rubble. There was a gash on her chin, down to her collarbone, deep and running with blood. She was limping, and yet she still ran. She had to.
She heard a cry of pain, and pivoted to the left as part of the ceiling caved in. From doing so, she received yet another wound on her person. She ran toward where she could hear someone calling out.
She reached a pile of rubble, where she found Kainen. She gasped, letting out a shrill scream of terror when she realised that Kainen's legs were trapped completely under the concrete. As quickly as she could, she began lugging the concrete off him, even as the fire crept closer.
Kainen twisted his head, eyes filled with agony and an underlying horror.
"Samara, princess, you need to go. Please! Please leave me here! Your bleeding, badly, and I'll only slow you down! Please!!" He begged, and Samara's blood ran cold at the sound. He sounded so desperate, so scared, and it broke her heart.
But, regardless, she shook her head, vehemently ignoring his pleads for her to leave. She finally cleared the rubble on him, and had to suppress her sickness at seeing the mangled mess of blood and flesh that were her brother's legs.
She hoisted him up, nearly stumbling into the fire as the weight of everything drastically increased. In the back of her mind, she heard sirens outside, and could hear people screaming and shouting.
She started towards the front door, but there was a heap of burning timber and concrete blocking her path. Now turning desperate, she turned for the backyard. She was nearly and hope was flickering in chest as she got nearer. Still, Kainen was begging her to leave him, but she just couldn't.
"Kai-nee! Stop, please! I'm not leaving you. Never! Your my brother, my best friend and my idol! So stop!"
Kainen was now sobbing against her. She, herself, felt tears streaming down her face. Out of no where, a dizziness hit her, and she faltered, stopping in place. She slightly turned her head, and noticed the trail behind her was thick with blood.
But she was getting closer, and she couldn't give up, not now-
Above them, Kainen noticed cracks in the ceiling becoming more and more apparent, he could hear the rafters above them creaking and crackling. His eyes widened, and he glanced ahead, noticing the back door a mere jump away.
He turned his head to his sister, who was pale, and his heart stopped.
'This is it', he realised, and a calmness set in his body. Time slowed, and he grasped Samara by the shoulders, she turned to look at him, surprise spreading across her face. All at once, three things happened.
Above them, the roof collapsed in, a hail of fire, timber and plaster coming down upon them. Kainen used the last of his strength to shove his little sister as he as he could towards the door. And, finally, Samara watched the most important person in her life sacrifice themselves, as she stumbled back, unable to do anything at all. Her back slammed into the door, it's hinges giving way, and she fell through.
Her eyes were stuck on the new pile of rubble though, one with a pale hand sticking out of it. Her whole world fell quiet, and the only things she could hear were her own heartbeat, and the faint sound of her screams.
Getting up, her voice had gone hoarse as she turned-tail and hobbled to the fence of her house, which faced the backstreet to a busy city. She climbed, and ran as fast as could, weaving through alleyways until she collapsed in a heaping pile of pain, blood, ash and despair. That brings us to where we are now. Samara Neizy, on the brink of death.
TOKYO NEWS; RUIN OF NEIZY HOUSEHOLD, NO SURVIVORS!!!
Reporter: Today, in a terrifying turn of events, the house that once belonged to Pro-Hero; Watcher, burnt and collapsed. There were two people in the house at the time. Fourteen year old Samara Neizy, and her older brother, 19 year old Kainen Neizy. Both are assumed dead, although only Kainen's body has been found. As described by onlookers, as the back end of the house fell in, piercing screams were heard for a while.
Samara Neizy's body hasn't been found yet, but it's only a matter of time. Police and Hero officials are unsure what the cause of the fire was, they only know that it was set from the outside. We are so, so sorry for the friends and families of the victims, and hope they can move past this dreadful happening.
A white haired boy who happened to be in front of a TV shop display at the time of the news scoffed.
"Of course, they only pay attention when your no longer there to receive it. Screw that. I hope the guy who killed those two gets what he deserves."
Touts Todoroki, at 19 himself, walked away, not paying another thought to incident.
AN:
Got real dark real quick lol. Anyways, I'm completely open to suggestions of what our sweet lil Samara. Also, small feature of Da- Touya.
Please review, I'd really appreciate it :)
By the way, in case you didn't notice, Samara's quirk is Glass manip, it it makes her vision worse the more she uses it. If you wanna visualise her hair colour, think Wendy's hair colour from Fairytail.
