Everything was over at last, or at least for a little while, since being a shadowhunter always seemed to come with a healthy helping of tragedy, and therefore they had decided to have a party… or at least that's what they had told Magnus. Alec had actually approached Julian and Jace respectively and told them that he was planning to propose and wanted to have the wedding tonight. The whole institute had been running around sending fire messages and sorting resources for the evening in question- all while trying to recover and also act like absolutely nothing was out of the ordinary. Ty had, of course, wanted nothing to do with the bright lights and busy sounds so had decided to hide on the roof all afternoon and then along the shoreline when it was time for the party.

The beach itself was actually quite lovely, Magnus had soundproofed the traffic, lit floating fairy lights through the sky that were glimmering like stars and they had set up signs to keep the mundanes away from the area. It was the quietest Ty had seen the beach for quite a while and that was something he was glad of.

Ty himself was currently wandering barefoot through the rockpools that ringed the craggy grey cliffs. Staring down into one of the pools he spotted Arenaeus cribrarius also known as the speckled swimming crab. They were fairly common around here but Ty still thought they were special and beautiful each time he saw one. This one had a slight crack in its upper right shell and a distended right claw to match. He wondered if perhaps the poor creature had been in a fight or trapped in a net perhaps. Carefully and all the while minding its injuries, Ty picked it up from the rock pool and took a closer look. He then noticed Dru standing alone and looking slightly anxious, flicking her eyes over to their youngest brother and the two of Alec and Magnus' children, ever the watchful shadowhunter.

As gently as he could, Ty maneuvered the crab so that it was cupped into his hands and ran over to join Drusilla, which happened to be most difficult in the sand.

'Dru!' he called, presenting the crab to her.

She smiled at him, seemingly intrigued by the crab too.

'These crabs are really interesting as they can be found between Massachusetts and Argentina all the way up and down the coast. They also prefer warmer and shallower water so will settle themselves in the tides or the rock pools.'

He wanted to get Drusilla away from the party for a second so she could take a moment of calm. 'There's bioluminescence down at the other end of the beach,' he said, bending to place the crab back on the floor and watching it scurry away for a second 'do you want to come see?'

Ty watched Dru's face for a second, she seemed to have something Ty couldn't place lurking behind her eyes. Moments later, Dru nodded and raced down the beach alongside him, her black skirts bundled up in her arms.

'Oh wow Ty this is so cool!' Dru said, taking in the shoreline as it seemed to almost glow.

Ty couldn't help the small smile that slipped onto his face at his sister's genuine awe and wonder.

She and he spent a while splashing in the shallows together, discussing the very interesting subject that was bioluminescent animals and their habitats, before Julian came along and broke the reverie.

'I wanted to talk to you Ty.' he said matter of factly, the way Ty liked it best.

He let his eyes find Julian's face and settled his gaze somewhere around his left cheek, trying not to look too confused.

Dru quietly excused herself, slipping through the waves and back up the beach towards the party.

'You guys talk. I'm going to see if Lily will teach me the Charleston.'

She approached a group, which Ty could pick out as some of the New York downworld, and shyly introduced herself. Ty was proud of his little sister considering how nervous she seemed to be meeting new people. It seemed she'd made some real leaps in the past year with regards to being more brave and confident.

'Are you sure you're alright with me leaving?' Julian spoke softly to him 'Emma and I, we don't have to go.'

Ty had been thinking about this for a while now and had come to a conclusion of sorts of his own. He supposed now was as good a time as any to tell Julain his secret. It was something he had always considered of course, and wasn't a secret to his family, but between the death of his twin and the rift that had seemed to form between himself and Kit... This was most definitely the right decision, even if one might call it escapism and avoidance. He looked over towards Magnus and Alec who were laughing and swinging Max between them, and his mind, though no choice of his own, flashed through an image of Kit and him giggling together in their finery. Kit wasn't here though and Ty didnt know where he was exactly. He wished he did because he needed to talk to him, to apologise and maybe get those words out he'd been trying to say for weeks. But he wasn't here though.

'I want to go to the Scholomance.' he blurted out, knowing he might as well just say it straight.

Julian's face dropped just slightly before he managed to put on his "big brother face'' as Ty called it.

'The Scholomance‽ But wouldn't the academy be better? You're only fifteen.'

A valid counter and yet Ty would not be swayed. He thought of Sherlock and his collection of mystery books, the way he, Kit and Livvy had run around solving mysteries together and how exhilarating it had been. How Kit had become his Watson and how his face had lit up the moment Ty had suggested the nicknames. That smile was unforgettable and lit up the boy's entire face.

Ty then explained his reasons to his older brother in a clear and well laid out method, and by the look of his softening face, he was coming around to the idea. Finally, Julian agreed and reminded Ty that he would always have a home here in LA. Telling his brother the news was supposed to be a weight lifted, yet he didn't feel even the slightest bit lighter. He would have liked to have said he didn't know why, but he did deep down and it had something to do with those ocean blue eyes that were etched in grief upon his mind's eye.

When the fireworks started, Julian turned away from Ty and went off to find Emma who he pulled close to him the moment he reached her. Ty thought it odd that they were dating now, had they always been this close? It was something to perhaps mull over another time. Lit with the sparks of the fireworks, the sky turned a resplendent purple and gold, the opposite colour scheme to the seafoam blue-green bioluminescence that lay at Ty's feet. He was glad to have been let stay down here as the noise of the fireworks, though muted by distance, still played on his nerves, and he could only imagine it would be worse the further upshore he went.

Suddenly Ty felt a set of eyes watching him from the break, and when he looked up he realised it was the ghostly form of his sister Livvy. It was still hard to see her dressed in her white funeral dress, a face frozen in time. He dared not think of how much worse it would get as he grew and she did not… which is why of course he had to find a way to bring her back, properly this time. She glided over to him and stopped just short of the shore, happy to be over the crashing waves she had always loved so.

'Hey Ty-Ty, how are you holding up?' Her voice seemed distant and almost echoey.

'I don't know, I'm excited to go to the Scholomance but I'll miss my family and- and Kit.' Ty replied honestly, he never could lie to Livvy.

'Oh Ty, it's okay you'll still be able to see them all the time and I can come with you to the Scholomance.' Livvy gave him that look that only she seemed to be able to give.

'Thank you,' was all he said before reaching into his pocket and pulling out his phone. 'I need to get rid of this though, don't I'? He met her eyes just for a moment, they were starkly empty.

'Unless you want the Clave to find out, then yes you do. I'm sorry.' Livvy said.

'It's okay, I've saved all of my other photos and text messages to my computer.'

'I know, I just know how much you wanted to save me, and without the book-' Livvy trailed off, flickering for a second.

'I'll find another way to help you.' And with that he threw his phone into the ocean, letting out all of the anger, the feelings of loss and grief that found residency in his heart.

A smile crept it's way up onto his face and he looked up to Livvy who had begun swaying to the distant music. She looked happy and serene, the way she always should. She should have been alive too but that was beside the point, he was determined to have a good time from now on.

He thought about the conversation he had had with Magnus not so long ago. He had told Magnus that he wanted to say goodbye and Magnus had told him it was already too late. Those words he had used would be forever burned on Ty's mind.

'He didn't want to say goodbye to you.'

Ty could barely bear to hear those words spoken so flatly, so matter of factly. Did he really hate Ty so much? He supposed the other boy had said as much but it hurt to know he meant it so verily.

He wondered what Kit would think hearing that Ty was to move to the Scholomance. Ty was at least fairly sure that he would be supportive considering that he knew it was all Ty had wanted for a while. Sure, he was willing to put it on hold for his sister but that was hardly a problem now was it? He also wondered what Kit would think of Devon, of England, and if by some small miracle he would write to Ty about it. He would have to give Tessa or Jem his new phone number when he finally got around to getting a new phone. Devon was a delightful county in the south west of England and was, for the most part, quiet and quaint and absolutely filled with cows.

Ty had looked it up on his phone after finding out that was where Kit had gone and had been delighted in it's rich and deep history. It seemed that the settlements there were beyond quite a few records and it seemed to be filled with downworlders older than most. Ty hoped that one day Kit would perhaps invite him to the new house so that he could explore the area and learn about the ancient fae. He had also read that one of the moors had been the inspiration for the book "Hound of the Baskervilles" by Arthur Conan Doyle which was beyond interesting in Ty's opinion.

He wished upon wishes though that Kit could've been here, could've even danced perhaps with him and with Livvy. He wished he could have told him he loved him. Perhaps at another time, in another life, he would get the chance to say those three little words but for now he would just have to be content with starting over. In two weeks he would go to the Scholomance and start anew, and maybe they would meet again when Ty was stronger and he could tell the other boy how he felt.

Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed this one. I'll admit it's a lot of book direct quotes with my spin and pov but i found it hard to write but i hope you like it nonetheless. Leave a comment or kudos if you liked it, i just love reading them! Also come message me if you'd like to join my TWP ideas, theories, fanthings etc Discord, it'd be so much fun!
