Perry and Peter sat in the quiet hospital room, well quiet outside of the machines beeping, looking at Natalie with her hair all messed up with an oxygen mask over her mouth. Sound asleep, blissfully unaware to the havoc that her poisoning caused.
"This is incredibly frightening, Mr. Mason. I don't know how you're able to sit through this without pacing or panicking."
Peter whispered as Perry looked up, eyes red from his tears as he breathed deeply,
"I'm just as scared are you are, Peter. I've never grown this attached to one of my clients to this extreme. Believe me, I've had clients of all ages and yet Nat's the one who somehow grew attached to me from the word 'Go' and to be honest. I wouldn't have it any other way."
Peter smiled through his own tears,
"I've loved her since we met in first grade, we had the same homeroom and she wanted absolutely nothing to do with me."
Perry chuckled,
"Sounds about right for a girl like her when she's only six."
Peter nodded but gasped,
"What about you being in court without her? I know Miss Street will need to be there too; I don't want to be here alone."
Perry nodded,
"Nat adores Paul. I can have him stay here with you as well."
Peter nodded,
"I think Nat wouldn't be too scared if she comes to, and Paul's here."
Perry nodded as Della walked in,
"Hey, Perry. I'll take the night shift. It's already half past 8. Go get some sleep, I was able to get an extension until Friday."
Perry nodded as he kissed Della's forehead as she sat in the chair he was sitting in as Della took Natalie's hand,
"Hey, honey. You're going to be right as rain in a few days."
Peter had laid his head next to Natalie's hand that he held and fell straight to sleep as Della sat up and gently whispered to Natalie in the hopes that Natalie could hear her.
A few hours later, the doctor on call walked in seeing Della, Natalie, and Peter all asleep and decided to step out and not check in on his patient.
The next morning, Della woke up in a haze as Paul shook her awake.
"Hey, Della. Perry's still asleep in the office, I'll watch her this morning. Go get some good sleep in your own bed."
Della nodded as she kissed Natalie and Peter's foreheads before letting Paul sit with Natalie.
"Morning, Della. I thought Paul sent you to bed."
Perry said as Della walked into the office as Della nodded,
"I slept enough, what'd you find? Besides, didn't Paul say you were still asleep?"
Perry sighed with victory,
"I couldn't sleep and besides I just got off the phone with Christina about ten minutes ago and they were able to catch the Waverly's in the act. With all that's come to light, Christina said that she would take a shift and watch Nat one afternoon and that her and I would work together to clear Nat's name, although her actions won't be as obvious. She even said after talking with Paul and Peter yesterday, she's begun to feel sorry for Nat."
Della smiled,
"When is Christina heading to the hospital?"
Perry nodded,
"Tomorrow…"
"Hey… remember whenever we'd choose teams for sports in gym how livid you'd get whenever the teachers would practically force you to choose me for your team? Ha, I knew then that you'd be the perfect girlfriend/lover. Your fiery personality then only made me fall for you harder."
Peter whispered through a fresh set of tears as Paul slept away, while holding Natalie's hand as he smiled.
The machine's beeped in the background as a nurse came to check in on Natalie,
"How's she reacting to the medicine?"
Peter asked as the nurse nodded,
"Just fine, she's a strong girl Mr. Hawk. She's lucky to have you, Miss Street, Mr. Drake, and Mr. Mason."
Peter smiled,
"And DA Matthews, too. We've turned her to support Nat."
The nurse squeezed Peter's shoulder as she walked out of the room as Paul woke up,
"Hey, kid. It's OK, I know you're probably hanging out with your Aunt Joyce and Uncle Gregory and hell, probably your parents in those dreams you're having. Just know that Miss Street, Mr. Mason, Peter and I have got your back. We love you and I hope you don't forget that."
Paul whispered with a bright teary eyed smile as Peter squeezed his hand,
"She'll make it through. I know she will."
The two men sat there watching over their girl as Natalie moved her head a little, but not enough for the two men to notice.
