Christina Matthews was sitting with Peter and Natalie with a sad smile. She could tell right off, even when Perry was questioning him as the poisoning happened, that Peter was in love with Natalie.

Moreover, that Natalie was also in love with Peter from the bashful smile she saw during the questioning.

"I'm sorry if I came off too harsh to Natalie. Now with the new evidence that the Waverly's poisoned her. I'm hoping she gets better."

Peter nodded,

"Thank you, Miss Matthews."

Christina was not your average prosecutor, she was trained by Hamilton Burger, who was a friend of Perry Mason until his untimely death in 16 years prior.

So, when she went after defendants, she was like a bulldog but this was all new for her.

Now, I understand how Hamilton was able to become friends with Perry. They worked together in the best interest for Perry's client and serving proper justice.

Christina thought as she looked at the young woman as she ran her thumb across Natalie's cheek with a smile,

"I take it you're going to prom together, or with all that's going on you're not going to force her? I know how important prom can be for a high school couple."

Christina asked as Peter looked up and nodded,

"Yeah, I don't think she'll want to go. Not with everything's that has happened, especially with the poisoning."

Peter smiled as Christina looked up to see Perry as he smiled,

"How is she?"

Perry asked as Christina nodded,

"Stable, but doing better. The doctor thinks she'll be out of the coma in perhaps two – three days. Natalie's a strong girl."

Christina made her exit as Perry sat down and took Natalie's hand as he smiled – whispering to her again as Peter got up and went to his apartment and gathered the cards Natalie had asked for him to hold onto.

"Peter, I need you to do me a favor."

Peter nodded as Natalie walked up to him at school.

"Sure, darling. What is it?"

Natalie nodded and handed him two envelopes,

"These are cards asking Miss Street and Mr. Mason to adopt me. Now, I know they're not married but you see unmarried couples having babies all the time. I know if this was 20 years earlier, I wouldn't be doing this. I know what I'm doing Peter. Trust me."

Peter nodded and kissed her softly,

"If what you're doing is going to help you feel safe. Then go ahead."

Natalie smiled brightly as she walked to her next class.

Peter smiled softly in remembrance of that day as he gathered the notes and went to buy Natalie the biggest bouquet of pink tulips he could find.

When he got back, he noticed a difference in Perry's demeanor,

"What happened?"

Perry nodded,

"She squeezed my hand. I think she's getting strong enough to move and the doctor is more confident that she'll come out probably early tomorrow morning. Remember he said the amount of poison in her system wasn't all that much, just enough to knock her down for a few days? I hope she'll be awake in a few hours."

Peter smiled and kissed Natalie's forehead as he felt her hand move to cover his, hearing their whispers was helping to wake her up,

"Mmm…"

They heard her moan as Perry pressed the call button as a nurse came in and broke into a beaming smile seeing Natalie come to as she ran to get the doctor.

"Hi, Natalie. Welcome back, how are you feeling?"

The doctor asked once they got Natalie completely awake as she nodded,

"What happened?"

The doctor was about to answer when Della walked in and gasped as she began to cry happily,

"Hi, Nat."

The doctor nodded,

"You were poisoned, Natalie but it wasn't enough to seriously harm you. You've been out for 36 hours. Do you remember anything before you passed out?"

Natalie nodded with a blush looking at Peter,

"Peter's smile as he talked about me on the stand."

Peter looked down as the doctor finished his examination and left when Natalie looked at the envelopes on her bedside table as she looked to Della and Perry,

"I was going to give you these after the trial was over, but because of what happened… I feel the need to give them to you now."

Perry and Della opened the cards to read very different poems on how they've changed Natalie's life for the good and at the end of each poem was the identical question of,

Will you adopt me?

Natalie smiled softly,

"Seeing as my legal guardians are dead, I don't have to wait until I turn 18. Now, I know you're not married but we're in the 80s right now. I've seen unmarried couples have babies in my apartment complex. I know you guys grew up in a completely different society but this is my choice. I want us to be a family, Paul too."

Della and Perry looked to each other and nodded with smiles as Perry spoke up,

"I was actually considering asking you that question. But seeing as you've beat me to the punch, my answer is 'yes' but I don't know about Miss Street's answer."

Della looked to Perry and nodded,

"My answer is 'yes', as well. When you mentioned to me months ago when you wanted us to be a family, it felt like we already were. Thank you for being this brave in asking us to adopt you."

Everyone smiled as the team found a new vigor to clear Natalie's name. together. As the family Natalie had always envisioned she would have.
