Chapter5: Bargain

。。。。。。。。

"Now you're the one who owes me, princess," Kamui sneered at the trembling girl.

She could not breathe through lungs well. Lately, it felt like her own life was constantly hanging on a red thread. "H…How?" she muttered softly.

"I think you know better than me."

Two corpses were lying in front of her. Their intention was to kill her for sure. But how did they know her whereabouts? Since leaving the house, she hasn't met anyone besides Kamui and-

"Doctor," Soyo looked up to meet the blue eyes.

Kamui nodded. It seems that Hitotsubashi's people are scattered all over Edo.

"So, should I take care of that thing?" Kamui pointed to a middle-aged male doctor standing in front of the clinic in the distance. He jumped over the figure lying in the doorway to find the culprit but was held back by both small hands.

She drew a thick hand back, ignoring the blood on his hands, tainting hers red now. "No! Don't! What are you going to do?! He was your lifesaver!"

"Yes." Kamui turned around and looked at her with a confused expression. "And he intended to kill you."

"Yes, but he saved your life," Soyo insisted and held his hand tightly.

"The one who saved my life was not that guy. It was you, princess." ... Did he just admit that he was saved by this weak woman? When turning back to look at the culprit again, that man already ran away.

The vermillion-haired man sighed and looked at the girl in disbelief. "You're more stupid than I thought." He left off the thought of killing the doctor. When Soyo saw that Kamui was showing no signs of harming the doctor, she let go.

Kamui walked back into the clinic to pick up his Chinese outfit. It was torn and all stained with blood. So he put it on his shoulder and walked down the street.

Soyo sighed. It seems that her business with this young Yato was not over yet. She decided to follow him from a distance.

"Well, you owe me anyway. How are you going to pay back?"

The girl behind him raised her eyebrows. "I don't owe you."

"Huh?"

"I helped you, you helped me, we're even."

Kamui blinked. "Oh…is that so? But even that, we're on the same boat now."

"How?" Soyo actually wondered why this Yato man was still here. But she thought she'll know the answer soon.

"Both you and I were hunted down. A temporary handshake won't hurt, right?"

It sounded like he was indirectly asking for help. Soyo didn't have to say yes, because getting involved with this guy would bring nothing but risks.

They both walked aimlessly down the street. Soyo continued to walk at the same speed. But since when did Kamui start to walk alongside her?

She smiled softly and replied, "Oh...but I don't want to be one of you at all. How could I trust that you won't deceive? How do I know that you're not betraying again because before, you've been changing your party just like a chameleon."

"What a creepy comparison...I can't help it, I'm a pirate anyway."

"I don't care what your reason is. And that time, you even thought of killing-" The smile on the girl's face instantly disappeared. She didn't want to say that name. She knew she had to move forward, but it's still hard to look back without regret.

Amid the silence, Kamui continued, "You mean Shogun?" It made her twitch slightly but didn't say a word. "I have nothing to do with that, I swear. At that time, Well...it was true that I was competing with Shinsuke to see who could cut Shogun's head off first, but now I'm not."

Soyo clenched her fists, which were still stained with blood. She stopped walking. Kamui stopped and turned around as well.

"What do you think lives are?"

That question made him sighed a long breath. Kamui is stuck here now. Hunted by Harusame, Tendoshuu, and of course, Nobu Nobu's government. Plus, now he got lost with his division. Judging from the situation, Abuto probably wouldn't have survived too. It would have been better if he rushed back to gather as many surviving subordinates as possible.

He didn't answer the question but changed the subject to get straight to the point. "Anyway, can you find me a spaceship?" Of course, he could just rob the ship himself. But in this situation, it would be a bad choice.

"What do you mean?" she asked without facing him.

"I need a ship to escape from here. As you can see, Now I'm a lost rabbit with the herd."

"How could I find something like that? Now I can barely survive myself. Besides...even if I could, it doesn't mean I will agree."

Kamui laughed loudly as Soyo looked at him suspiciously.

Ending laughter, blue eyes fixed on the girl's eyes, "Princess, that's not a request. It's an order."

She swallowed down her throat.

Even though knowing that the other person is from Yato clan, how could she help the person who thought of killing her own brother? Don't be ridiculous...there's no way. She'll-

"No"

Hmm? That answer surprised him. The brown eyes now didn't seem to tremble, not a bit.

Kamui continued with a wide smile, "Or...Do you not want me to go anywhere?"

"What?" Soyo exclaimed, her voice raised."W...What are you saying?! That's not it!"

"Because if I can't go anywhere There would be no choice but to stay with you."

"What are you talking about? Shinobis and Momochi-san won't let that happen." Her puzzling look now made him want to laugh. But he could hold it back because now he had to get what he wanted first.

Soyo thought again, she couldn't use Shinobi and Momochi as an excuse. Surely no one would be able to fight this Yato because at that time she could see how capable he was, he was attacked by the Shinobis, but didn't get any injuries.

She changed her mind and continued, "Alright." Kamui raised his eyebrow. "I'll get you a spaceship. But give up the idea of staying with me." Soyo took out a purse full of money from her kimono and put it into his hand. "That should be enough for renting a house."

Kamui opened the light blue cloth purse in his hand. The money inside is more than enough that could rent a good house, live for months.

Actually, he was just joking about staying with her. Kamui can go to Yoshiwara. He's technically the ruler anyway. But...people there wouldn't welcome him that much.

"Good," Kamui grinned, spinning the purse with his fingers. "In exchange for her helping me, I can be your bodyguard, Just like that policeman did."

"No need for that," Soyo immediately denied.

"Oh, how mean, You're no fun not like before at all, princess."

What a funny saying. How could she be the same…when nothing is the same anymore?

Soyo didn't answer until Kamui spoke again. "Hope you don't get killed on the way back, princess," he said, walking down the dark Edo street. "I will wait for the good news." The princess just stood there until the Yato man walked out of sight.

The next day, Soyo told Momochi that she will go out. Seeing Momochi's normal expression, made Soyo sure that no one knew about her sneaking out last night.

She will definitely not let them know about meeting Kamui. Because if both sides had to clash, the Momochi side would never win. She wasn't even sure if Kamui's intentions were pure.

Soyo walked down the street with a wide-brimmed straw hat with a thin white cloth, obscuring her face. Although people are not very crowded because of the recent political events, what happened to her last night would have reached the ears of Hitoshibashi. It would be best if she completely concealed herself.

Now, in Edo, besides the Shinobi, there are none of her friends. Both Shinsengumi and Yorozuya are on their way to help Kondo and Matsudaira. The way she would be able to find a spaceship for Kamui would have to find a way to contact Jiiya Maizo or ask for help from an old servant of the Tokugawa family. But either way, it's hard. Jiiya must have been a difficult choice because he was at Edo Castle and the old servants were all scattered after Tokugawa Shigeshige was assassinated.

Let her handle it herself is not a good choice either. If her identity was revealed and captured, everyone would be in trouble. She doesn't want to be a burden to anyone and-

Bump!!

Suddenly, the princess's body was almost staggered. Fortunately, she was able to balance, but it seemed that the one who bumped into her stumble to the ground. She looked like a young woman in her early 20s. Her clothes and hair looked messy and she had wounds all over her body.

"Do you think you can escape me? You wouldn't have got hurt if you behave like a good girl." A middle-aged man dressed like a samurai followed closely. He lifted the hand of the woman who had fallen to the ground with great force. The accompanying samurai stood sneering and quietly watched the incident.

"Let go!! Let go of me, you disgusting pervert!!" The girl screamed and tried to pull her arm back. "Even I have to die, I won't go with you! I said I had a husband! I'm not a courtesan, and even if I am, I'll never ever sleep with a disgusting person like you-" A large and rough hand clashed against the girl's face, reverberating throughout the area. The passers-by stopped walking and looked from a distance.

"Haven't I told you who I am? If you spit something unsightly again, you won't have a tongue to say anything anymore." After that, he thought about dragging the girl away, but…

"Let her go." Soyo, who stood beside him and saw all the events, unable to stand still.

"Huh?"

"I told you to let her go right now!" Even though she was so small, but speaking in such a harsh voice, it made the man feel displeased.

"Don't get involved. We're Nobunobu-sama's samurais. If you are thinking of getting in our way, you'll have a bad ending like this bitch." He threatened and raised the woman's wrist in his hand.

"Whoever you are, you have no right to touch this woman."

"And who are you to interfere in my affairs? How dare. Did you not know that if you offend Nobunobu-sama's samurai-"

"Didn't you hear what I said…I don't care who you serve. Persecuting people who can't fight like this..." Soyo raised her head. The white cloth from the wide-brimmed hat still obscured the sneering smile on her face. "You're a samurai…or a robber?"

"You bitch!!!" He pushed the woman beside him bumping into the table in the restaurant and approached Soyo. She turned to Shinobi, who was hiding on the distant roof. They almost immediately came into custody, but she signaled to stop immediately. "Let me see your ugly face!!"

Soyo stepped back in shock, but before the large hand could reach to reveal the princess face. A cry of pain sounded.

"Agh!!!" The man who called himself a samurai fell to the ground, frantic. His arm was twisted unsightly.

"Ah, sorry, my hand slipped." Soyo raised her head and looked at the person behind in amazement. "But how are you going to pay for the food?" The orange-haired man pointed to the food, scattering on the table with a dangerous grin on his face.

"Kamui-san?!"

He simply smiled in response before walking towards the samurai, "You're going to pay with money or pay with your other arm?"

"Agh!! You!! Don't you know who I serve?! D...do this, you will die for sure!!!"

"Hmm, I know that well. So... the answer is an arm, right?" The Yato man didn't hesitate. His feet stepped on the man's chest on the ground, grabbed the other arm and slowly twisted it.

"Agh! stop!! stop!!! Take it, take it!" Hearing that, Kamui let go of the man's arm under his feet. The samurai hurriedly took the money from his pocket and threw it at him before hurriedly running away.

The people who stopped watching the previous events began to scatter. Kamui took the money that had fallen into his pocket in a good mood. He seemed to have gained more than the cost of food.

"I'm relieved that you didn't kill him," was the first thing Soyo said.

"If I do that, you will be in trouble."

"Eh… since when were you worried about me?" Soyo smiled innocently. Of course, Kamui was worried... worried that the person who would find the spaceship for him would die before everything's settled.

"Thank you!" The girl who had been harassed before lowered her head to the ground. "I am willing to repay you in any way. Please mention the name of my benefactor!" A loud voice from the girl's throat caused the crowd to turn to look at Soyo once more. She hurriedly stopped and lifted the woman off the ground before dragging her somewhere else to talk. Of course, Kamui followed closely.

"You're coming too?"

"Rabbit is a lonely animal, princess. If left alone it will die."

"Are you saying that you are lonely?"

They entered an uninhabited wooden house. Soyo sat down in the middle of the room while Kamui leaned back against the wall behind her.

Kamui chuckled before he answered, "Let's say that I'm just bored. There aren't many fun things to do here, but it seems that there is always something fun happens around you."

"The fun thing around me you said is more like deadly." Soyo smiled bitterly.

"Anyway, but what are you going to do with that woman? Look like we can use her well, huh?" Soyo looked at the person sitting across. When she realized that she was being talked about, she began to introduce herself. "My name is Aki."

"Aki-san, can you tell me what happened? Why were they chasing you like that?" Soyo asked in a serious tone.

"...I'm a Cabaret hostess in the Yoshiwara district," Aki straightened up and said in a shriveled tone. "One day I met someone who claimed to be the Shogun's samurai. He wanted to sleep with me, but I refused. He followed and rampaged at the shop every day until the owner couldn't stand it. I got fired and even ran away from there, he still followed and abused me…"

Soyo furrowed. "What about your husband?"

"That was just an excuse to chase him away, but it doesn't work."

"Don't worry, Aki-san. I think they wouldn't dare to mess with you now. As for work, let me help you. I know a drink bar in Kabukicho area. The people there are very kind and will definitely never leave you alone." Aki's hair and eye color were pitch black. Looking closely, her face was quite beautiful.

Aki's eyes were filled with tears, "You…who are you? Why-?" As she raised her head, she saw a face that everyone in Edo knows very well.

Soyo brushed the white cloth that had concealed her face up and smiled. Aki was silent for a moment until Soyo lifted her finger to touch her lip. "Please keep it a secret."

"P...Please." Aki leaned her face on the floor again. "Please let me serve the princess. I don't need any work or money. My life is yours Please use me as you wish."

"Aki-san, that's too-"

"And please bring peace to Edo again."

Hearing that, the princess stopped and immediately thought. If that's what this woman really wants. She wouldn't say no. "Alright."

"Thank you!" Aki bowed so low that her body was almost flat on the ground.

When Soyo squinted to look at the person behind. Kamui tilted his head, signaling her to say about 'that.' She sighed before turning around and speaking to Aki.

"Is it too early if I'm going to give you your first job?"

"Pardon?"

Soyo grinned widely. And in the end, she finally got someone to help Kamui finding a spaceship.

"Why are you following me?" After finishing the business talk and parting with Aki, the young Yato continued to walk along with the princess with his umbrella opened.

"Follow? me? I'm not following you. Probably just a coincidence that we're going in the same direction."

Despite that, almost 10 minutes later, Kamui was still walking in the same direction as her.

Soyo narrowed her eyes and turned to look at him. "What exactly do you want, Kamui-san?"

Kamui narrowed his eyes back to her, "No, you. Why are you following me, princess?"

"I'm not following you. I'm going to Yoshiwara."

"I'm going there too."

Soyo was about to open her mouth to argue but remembered what the young man would normally go for in that place. She immediately shut up.

It's strange that Hyaka couldn't handle things that happened in Yoshiwara. Even the Yoshiwara area can be threatened by the Hitotsubashi, she'll have to stop by and talk to Tsukuyo for a bit.

It took a long time to walk to Yoshiwara. This meant that she would have to walk with Kamui until there and it would be awkward if no one said anything further.

"What are you going to do there?" It was a naive question, and Soyo actually knew the answer.

"Why would you want to know? That place is said to be the men's paradise. But you wouldn't understand anyway."

Actually, she understands that well. She had known about that place since Jiiya and Suzuran incident happened. As soon as she got to know Tsukuyo, she learned more about something that couldn't be read in books or seen inside the castle than Kamui thought. "You didn't answer my question."

The more people passed by on the street, the distance between them inevitably narrowed.

Brown eyes fixed on the Yato's smiling face. He didn't answer the question as if he felt embarrassed. Act like a kid who got caught sneaking to hang out with women for the first time.

Soyo was curious to know if he would dare to say those words. And it must have been her natural sadism that wants to see the other person suffer in a stalemate "So what are you going to do there?" she asked again.

Kamui rubbed his vermillion hair, sighed and replied, avoiding making eye contact with the girl next to him. "How persistent, I said I was going to be a bodyguard in exchange for you finding me a spaceship, didn't I?"

She was amazed that the answer was not as expected. "Eh… I remember that I refused back then."

"I don't like to owe anyone for a long time. Especially with you…" Kamui turned to look at Soyo, who was making a puzzled face. Then he explained further, "I just don't want to be indebted to a weak person like you for so long. Besides, I have nothing to do now."

Soyo thought for a moment before answering. "It would be best if you have nothing to do." Because when he has something to do, everything seemed to be a bloody sea.

Kamui laughed. "It seems like you're not afraid of me anymore."

Deep down, she was still wary of this Yato man. But there is a proverb…don't reveal your weaknesses to anyone. And it seems like Soyo has done well so far.

Finally arrived at the destination. Seeing it from above, red lanterns were adorned all over the place, and although it doesn't look as lively as before, no matter how she looked at it, this place is certainly the well-known Yoshiwara.
