Kazuma Satou, for all intents and purposes, was a shut in NEET. You knew this, he knew this, everyone knew this. However, what hardly anybody knew, was that he was also an attorney at law!

Shocking, right? To anyone that was in his close bubble of friends, who sadly was no one, he had this uncanny talent with the law. Admittedly, he hadn't counted on dabbling with the law at all to begin with. He really only started because he was sick of his family seeing him as less than nothing because of his hobbies. He was just fourteen for god's sake! This wasn't feudal Japan where you had to be a successful lord, have a wife and kid by the time you turn eighteen! He was just enjoying his comfy life in the modern era. There was nothing wrong with that, right?

In any case, he decided that just to spite them, he'd dabble in a little bit of law, as that seemed to be a rather high-ranking job in society. He intended to 'study' a book or two before dropping it and moving on with his rather stagnant life…to which he then found himself studying more and more books. He kept it private, of course. He didn't want his parents getting any funny ideas after all.

After a few months, he found that the material was coming rather easy to him. He continued studying, more as a passionate hobby than anything serious…at first. After he turned fifteen, he started investing more time into studying the law than his video games. That of course didn't mean that he didn't spend a lofty amount of time on his JRPGs. He just couldn't resist the call of his fictional harem for very long. The only thing that he could use to escape the fact that he was sad, alone and more than likely will die that way…

Anyway! After taking a few online classes and reaching out to several upstart lawyers, saying that he was somebody trying to get into the profession, he finally got a bite. If he was going to be brutally honest, he hadn't expected to even get this far. The only way he thought that he'd be able to have a chance, was to say that he'd expect no credit or compensation for his services. To say that he was lucky was an understatement.

After working over the documents, along with giving notes and his own suggestions, he had sent them back and awaited what the lawyer had thought. When he received an email later, saying that he had done an excellent job and that they would like to work with him again, he was relieved. He had never thought that he would have gained such a skill that was almost as gratifying as playing one of his games to completion.

So began his secret career of working for upstart lawyers and correcting any misstep they made in their documentation while also getting real life experience in understanding the law. This kept on for a few years, slowly building up his repertoire. Going to a point where he had several clients he had been working for. Right up until his very first client, the one that had taken a chance on him, had asked him why he didn't go to a Law school? At that he paused. He had been comfortable here in his own home, doing as he pleased, when he pleased. As serious as he took this small-time career, he hadn't thought about seeking a proper education in the profession. He looked around his room, seeing that he…still absolutely loved his lifestyle. He didn't think that he had grown past it, far from it. Yet, he had also learned that he could just take it with him wherever he decided to go.

There was also the fact that he just really hated his parents.

On and on they'd say how useless he was. How he was a failure of a son. That he'd never amount to anything. Even going as far as to say that they'd probably Laugh at his death! Laugh they said! His little brother didn't do anything to help either. Not only was he more 'successful' already, but he agreed with their parents too! Well, he'd show them! He decided to go through with the suggestion and apply to any and all Law Schools that would have him!

With a few recommendations and a bit of doing, he was eventually accepted to a rather nice University with a full ride scholarship. Shocked his parents to hell and back when he showed them the letter, even more so when he announced that he was moving out. It was so much of a shock, that they stayed nearly comatose the entire time he was taking his stuff out of the house and into a truck that he had rented for his purpose.

Let it be known that after a while, he did eventually start making money from his work. There was no helping it, really. With as good as he was, he could not work without getting himself more material and textbooks…and maybe one or two new games and consoles.

A nearly two weeks later and several hundred miles away from his original home, he had finally made it to his new apartment. After he dropped off his stuff, gave the rental back to another one of the company's facilities and rode the bus back, he just…stood there.

Here he was, a NEET in his own apartment and ready to officially start his path towards being a Lawyer. He wasn't doing too bad, was he?

After unpacking a bit and counting down the days until his first class started, it was finally time. He was freshly showered, had his books and supplies and was ready to go!

As he walked from his apartment and towards a crosswalk, he saw that a girl around his age was rushing to the other side, trying to beat the timer that was about to turn the light green. However, she was just a bit too slow and a car was already on its way down the street, with the driver seemingly distracted. Kazuma's first instinct was to step in and try to warn her, already a foot or two forward, but stopped when the car suddenly slowed down. Other than the girl yelping an apology and the driver honking at her, the altercation turned out alright. He let out a sigh of relief knowing that girl was safe.

Too bad he didn't see that truck coming at him at top speed.

First thing's first. That cover image? I made it. That is the first time I've made one for one of my stories, and I assure you that it wont be the last. In fact, systematically, I'll be replacing all of my current cover images with ones I've created myself. Another thing. Yes, I have made another story. I just really like KonoSuba, have been lurking in the fanbase for a while now and wanted to take a crack at it myself. With that said, on to the other chapter that I have already made!
