"God this is annoying," I thought as I dragged the body of my grandfather towards my bedroom.
'First it was Jane and now him, what is up with my family and dangerous magic?' I thought and looked at my bracelet.
My bracelet was made out of a grey metal, Molybdenum to be exact as its high melting point made it easy for me to handle fire while not immediately turning into a blob of orange sadness. It had a line running lengthwise in the middle that was brown like my eyes as of now.
"Good grief, I should have just paid attention to him and learned teleportation," I told myself. I held my arm towards my grandfather and began to focus as the traces of his soul left his body and into my bracelet.
'Now, time to see what I can really do now,' I thought to myself and closed my eyes.
My grandfather was actually a powerful mage, he had been able to figure out how to use magic and since then, this knowledge has been passed down through the family. However, this magic was very dangerous as using it requires a piece of a soul to do so. If someone were to use too much of their soul, they could either fall apart due to having the lack of any life force and turn into a lifeless corpse, or they could be able to keep themselves alive through sheer willpower and go insane doing so.
Luckily, my grandfather was able to find a solution to this problem. Rather than constantly using a piece of their soul to try and do something as simple as moving a chair, there were two ways which we can reduce our souls being used. We could enchant an object to do certain tasks like healing someone of all injuries, or we could use someone else's soul to power our magic.
I was doing both, by enchanting any ability I wanted onto my bracelet and using the remains of someone's soul to help replenish or power my magic, in this case, my grandfather himself.
'How ironic that he was the one who told me that this magic was dangerous, and then died from demonstrating how to enchant an enemy's weapon to curse them,' I thought as I used my magic to send myself into another world. Something that my grandfather had wanted to do for years, but was too afraid of some oversized lizards.
