"Why the hell are you here?" I asked, my hands were poised and ready to use my magic on her at anytime.

"Strange, how did he not teach you who I am? Surely that fool must have gave you at least a clue as to how he got his magic," Dolor replied, she walked towards me and I tried to blast fire at her, but all that came out was a puff of smoke.

"Whats wrong? Magic being stubborn?" She asked, a smug grin plastered on her face. I tried to shoot some ice at her, but to no avail it simply made a bit of snow that quickly fell to the ground and melted, it was then I noticed that my bracelet was white instead of it's usual dark brown.

"See the glow on the walls?" Dolor asked, pointing to the walls which was glowing indigo.

"It's a simple protection spell, only the one who cast their spell may use their magic, anyone else is not harmed and will be healed unless hurt by the one who cast the spell. Basically, in a given area, one can either be hurt or healed by the one who cast the spell. Did he not teach you the basics of magic theory?" She asked as her hands moved around and chanted something and a book began to appear just like how I conjured my grandfather's notes.

"This is the Magnus Codex, a textbook of basic spells any magic user should know. It has just about everything required to be a formidable magic user when studying it for about forty years, give or take. Yet he was able to master it in about two weeks after reading it and even make some of his own spells," Dolor then waved her hands to make a card appear in her hand.

"Wow, best magic trick in the world."

"The card isn't the trick, this is," she said and moved her hands in a circular motion above the card which was held in the other hand and started to chant.

The card began to have an indigo glow around it like the walls around Dolor and was slowly melting in her hand, right when it looked like the card was about to drip out of her hand, she pulled her hand up causing the card to take the shape of a canary.

"Transmutation, a staple of spells, a bit of chanting, mental focus and some movement of the hands and you're good to go, but he was able to perform this without any chanting and while it took me years to perfect even this simple spell. He was able to perform this on an entire library permanently without any chanting while even some of the best sorcerers and magic users can only make a small cottage for a few hours if they were to use their magic," Dolor took a few steps closer to me, holding the canary in her right hand with a vice like grip that was making the poor bird chirp for mercy.

"What I want to know is, how did he do it? He could perform the most convincing illusions out of all of us, on scales so massive that no one could reverse his spells fully and have them permanent unless he reversed the spell?" The canary in her hand was slowly beginning to chirp quieter, as if it were losing air to breath or had its hollow bones already broken.

"What's his secret? Surly he must have some way of supercharging his magic to make these grand illusions and changes, no? Surely you must know since you seem to be the most powerful relative that can use this magic. Well, one that is still alive that is."

"Who are you even talking about? Why would I be the only one alive right now?" I asked, but then I remembered how I even got my magic in the first place. The one who had been using magic in the family and had always been the strongest being the one who knew it all.

'But he died.'

"You don't know who? Or maybe you should realise that he is probably quite the geezer by now."

"My grandfather," Dolor released the poor canary which had died and snapped her fingers in response.

"Exactly, he was able to give your entire family magic and even made a very powerful mage. Who was he again? Oh right, your cousin. He was on my list for quite a while, but he never left that stupid world your grandfather created and because he died before he ever left though I wasn't able to find out why he died, I assume it was pretty painful death for him, no?"

I wanted to burn Dolor for even mentioning his death in front of me, how she could just see him as someone who was just a powerful magic user when he was more that just another mage I knew. I wanted to freeze her and then burn her and freeze her again in an infinite loop, but her protection spell won't let me do that and she is the one who can cast her spells and enchantments here.

"I don't know how he has such powerful magic, all I know is that everyone who is blood related will gain the ability of magic and in order for them to be more powerful, my grandfather must train them to do so. I have no clue as to how he made them so powerful since he barely taught me anything besides some chanting."

"So that geezer does chant, I was wondering if the rumours that he didn't need to chant was true. Guess that means you're off my list." Dolor said as she clapped her hands twice and pushed them downwards, the walls lost their purple glow and my bracelet went from it's pale white back to the brown color of my eyes.

"Why would that make me off your list?" I asked, preparing to use my magic to burn her now that the protection spell was lowered.

"Don't think you can just burn me, I made sure to make my cloak fireproof since I already had some close calls with being a witch burned at stake. To answer your question, you were on my list because I've been searching for a being that is far more powerful then ever," she replied.

"Who or what is that being, and why would you be burned for being a witch? It had to be the twenty-first century if you could see us."

"That's the thing, I am not born in the twenty-first century, allow me to explain. I am a witch by the name of Dolor Mandrake, I was actually born in the eighteenth century and was raised by my father as a normal person until I met another witch..."

"Dolor! Help me get Betty into the stables!" Dolor's father, Maxel, shouted.

"Alright father," Dolor replied and went to the stubborn horse that was Betty, Dolor was about eight and she was best friends with Betty. They were such good friends that Betty would only listen to Dolor and only seemed to eat carrots that Dolor gave her.

"Come here Betty, let's go into the stable, okay?" Dolor asked sweetly. Maxel watched as Dolor brought Betty into the stable and patted her head before closing the stable and skipping back to Maxel.

"Great work Dolor, maybe we could let Betty try some corn next time since she is being so good today," Maxel said as he took Dolor's hand in his own and walked back to their little cottage.

Before they could open the door though, the door knob glowed scarlet and opened the door to reveal a dark cave which was lighted by torches.

"Father, that doesn't look like home," Dolor said, her instincts were strangly drawn to the cave, but her mind said that it was dangerous and that she shouldn't enter.

"Oh Dolor, it's finally time to meet your mother after so long!" Maxel said, his eye lightened as he excitedly brought Dolor into the cave.

Dolor was hesitant at first, but trusted that her father would know wether the place was safe and entered the cave with him. The cave had many different tunnels, they all looked about the same but Maxel seemed to know where he was going like he was back at home with whoever might be living in these caves.

Eventually, as they travelled deeper into the caves, the torches were replaced by lanterns that glowed green and the walls took on a scarlet red glow which Dolor found to be quite interesting since the glow was brighter when she went near the walls and seemed like it was trying to envelop her in the glow and protect her.

Eventually, they arrived in a stone room that had a cauldron in the middle and some brewing stands in wooden tables along with jars filled with all sorts of ingredients like foxgloves, daisies, dead lizards, a frog or two and some other plants that Dolor didn't recognise.

Suddenly, a puff of red smoke appeared in the center of the room and a figure in a red cloak and witch's hat appeared as the smoke settled.

"Mary!" Maxel shouted and went to hug the figure as she chuckled at Maxel's enthusiasm.

"Father, is this mother?" Dolor asked.

"Yes Dolor, this is your mother," Maxel said as Mary waved her arms to make Dolor hover in the air and float towards her.

She grabbed Dolor mid-air and hugged her affectionately as Dolor was surprised as to how her mother could easily make her fly.

"My mother was a witch at the time, it turns out I was a witch the entire time which allowed my to help control Betty despite her being so stubborn. Since then I was able to learn magic from her and have access to all sorts of spell books, I even got to meet other witches in the area and learn magic from them. However, people obviously didn't like witches at the time and when they found out my mother was a witch, they tried to burn me at stake of course, but my mother knew this could have come and placed an enchantment on me so that not only would I be fireproof, but I would also never die and never age so that no one could harm me."

"I have been alive for a long time and unfortunately, this spell was forbidden to all witches, as a result...they removed her magic and she was banished for betraying her coven. She died not long after people found out that she was my mother and was still burned at stake, she left me the Magnus Codex as a gift to become the most powerful witch there ever was and be safe from everyone including her coven."

"Wow, but who is that being you were talking about?" I asked.

"That being is called the Ion Mage, a magical being that is very powerful in their magic, the details are in the Magnus Codex," Dolor said and opened the book while flipping to a page. She found the page she was looking for and passed the book to me as I read it, only to find that it was in Latin.

"Umm, could you translate this for me? I don't really know Latin," I said as Dolor rolled her eyes and took the book back.

"Basically the Ion Mage is a being more powerful than anything else, their magic surpasses that of animus dragons and can make their illusions permanent. They have no coven, no need for chanting to cast spells and is by far the most fluent in speaking in Latin. It is their destiny to change all the dimensions whether for good or for bad, judging by the fact that you couldn't speak Latin, still chant to use your spells, and don't even know what a simple protection spell looks like. You are most definitely not the Ion Mage."

"Okay then, but why do you want to look for the Ion Mage and why now?"

"Well, the Ion Mage also has the ability to rewrite time itself and many other powers which make them capable of changing any prophecy or destiny aside from their own because their destiny is to change any destiny, a fly that can kill any wasp but not themselves. Because of this, I want to find them so that I can change the past, change the fact that my mother had to be burned at stake and that I have to live without her every single day of my life." Dolor's eyes were beginning to get watery, almost like mine when I was talking about my cousin.

"And as for why now, your grandfather's family was the most likely candidate since any other magical person is now...well...dead. Some sort of unknown entity killed them all and now I'm the only wtich left because of that spell, but your grandfather cast a safeguard on an entire world to protect you all from any magical creatures aside from your own. This made it impossible for me to enter in person, but I could still see through the protection and monitor you all like a telescope with a blurry lens."

"So what are you going to do now since I don't seem to be the Ion Mage?"

"Nothing."

"Wait, what?" I asked, she had gone all this way and had been watching me for pretty much my entire life and was about to do nothing.

"There's no point in trying to go into your world thanks to that safeguard and there is literally no one else who could be the Ion Mage since they're all dead, so I will have to wait for someone else in your family to come out of that dimension." Dolor replied, she looked tired as if she was fighting a war for thousands of years only to find that it was a draw.

"Okay then, so are you just going to follow me and hope that the Ion Mage suddenly appears?"

"It's my best shot right now."

'Greeaaattt, now I have a weird witch following me wherever I go and I still haven't come any closer to why my grandfather was here, isn't life just amazing.'

I decided that I should just look for the teachers in the school and try to explain to them why I'm here and hope that they could give me some clues.

I continued to walk down the corridors of the mountain in search of where the teachers could be and eventually found a room that had a Seawing who was arguing with a Rainwing.

"Look Tsunami, I did not just come here all the way from the rainforest to argue with you, there is something going on and I need you and help from the rest," the Rainwing said.

"Look Glory, I can't just abandon Jade Mountain to go with you on another rainforest expedition and I don't think anyone else can either. We are just too busy with the students, especially Kinkajou, I mean seriously the kid is pretty much jumping off the walls," the Rainwing said. I figured that the Rainwing was probably Glory and the Seawing is probably Tsunami.

I silently walked towards them with the divine darkness on and right when I was in the middle of them, I took it off.

"Hello dumb lizards." I said, both dragons screamed with Tsunami saying that Glory should use her 'magical death spit', Dolor was watching from the entrance and covered her mouth to try and muffle her laughter which was still noticed my Tsunami and Glory. Eventually, Dolor was able to calm down and introduce ourselves to the two petrified dragons.

"Hi there, I'm Dolor and this is Viribus."
