Chapter 6: Follow
Deacon POV
We look awful, we are bloody, bruised, dizzy, coughing, and have broken bones. But I try to stay focused, I keep reminding myself that I have to get home, to Annie and my kiddos. I turn and Chris is clearing a path to see what room we are in. At first, I can't believe that she's so calm. But that's when I realize she isn't calm, her body shakes, her breathing is eradicate, and her eyes show fear and are full of tears. I'm eventually lost in thought about what Annie will tell the kids if I'm dead, when she turns to me and she sees the fear in my eyes.
"Deacon? You alright? I'm gonna get us out don't worry" she says in a voice that I just have to believe that things will really be alright "we got blasted into the living room which means we have a way out so-" just like that a beam hits her in the head and the room is starting to fall apart. I stop, I see the exit that will be crushed in minutes. I want to run, to safety, but that isn't what I'm trained to do. I go to Chris and lift the beam away, her helmet is dented but her head is ok.
"Chris?!" I shout and her eyes open and she immediately stands, grabs my good arm and drags me out before the whole room collapses along with our only exit "woah, take it easy Chris"
"I'm fine. Let's go" she says and she begins to walk, she doesn't make it to far when her knees buckle making her crash to the floor, that's when I realize that the metal in her is slowly coming out. I rush over to her, help her stand and begin to check her over, but she brushes me off.
"Chris hold in the metal. If it comes out you could die before we get out of here." I say as I try to help her, but all that does is make her put her left hand on it to keep it in place and she keeps walking towards what was the kitchen. "Chris" I say sternly and she turns to me
"Deacon. Let's go, I'm fine and I need to get you out." she snaps
"Chris, I'm glad that you care so much about me. But don't forget to worry about your self" I say, before following her
