Epilogue: 2 months later
Deacon POV
It been two months and Chris and I are finally cleared for duty. I've been on desk duty while Chris was still recovering from her own injuries, we haven't spoken much because I don't know what to say. I see that her bruises are less severe, her cuts healed, her lung 100%, and her arm has mended. However, her rib cage is still sore and her body still shakes, but thankfully it's less violent and she's back to her old self. She was given an award for her bravery and she wears it on her uniform with pride, like she deserves.
Finally after our first day back in the field, I get the nerve to finally thank her for everything that she did that day.
"Chris?" I ask once everyone has gone home and Chris and I are the only ones in the locker room. She turns to me. "Thank you" I say "for saving me and everything you did for me that day"
"Oh Deac, you don't need to thank me" she says
"Maybe not, but I owe you. You kept me going when I couldn't and to be honest there was a time when I was only thinking of me and not us as a team. I can't thank you enough for what you did for me out there" I say and look into her eyes expecting to see pain or maybe even anger. But instead I find kindness and forgiveness.
"It's what we do Deacon, you owe me nothing. I will always have your six and I know that you will too" she answers and I smile before pulling her into a hug.
