ONESHOT. WHEN THE SUN SETS

1. Hermione's POV

Hermione Granger woke up on Wednesday at 5:45 am to her alarm ringtone. She turned off her alarm and stretched. She got up and opened her window. The cool morning breeze rushed in. She watched the sunrise for a couple of minutes then quickly made her bed and went downstairs.

"Morning!" called Raven from the breakfast table.

"Morning," Hermione replied, sitting down next to her. She drank a glass of orange juice and went back upstairs to her bathroom. She washed her face, brushed her teeth and brushed her hair. She then tied her hair up into a high bun and went into her room. She opened her closet and got out a pair of black shorts and a pastel orange baggy t-shirt. Hermione then went next door to her second youngest sister's room, Ophelia. She knocked lightly on the door, opened it a bit and stuck her head around the door. "Wake up, sleepyhead," she said quietly. Ophelia stirred and rolled over to face Hermione.

"Is it time already?" Ophelia mumbled sleepily, sitting up. Hermione grinned and opened the window while Ophelia rubbed her eyes and got out of bed.

"Are you going to wake Aurora up?" Hermione asked as she helped Ophelia make her bed.

"Shouldn't Raven have woken her up by now?" Ophelia asked. Hermione shook her head.

"She went to help dad start feeding the baby goats," Hermione explained. Ophelia pulled a face.

"You do it, you're ready," replied Ophelia, sticking her tongue out at Hermione. Hermione rolled her eyes at her sister.

"Fine, I'll go wake her then" Hermione concluded. "But you have to go and help dad and Rav now, no dilly-dallying" she added in a stern voice as she walked out of the room.

"Will do, don't worry!" Ophelia called after her. Hermione crossed the hall to Aurora's room and opened the door and stuck her head in.

"Wake up 'Rora, the goats won't milk themselves," she said laughing.

2. Draco's POV

The Malfoy's car rolled up the driveway and stopped in front of a large white stone house.

"This is it!" exclaimed Narcissa as they got out of the car. Draco looked around. The house was pretty secluded, apart from what looked like another similar house just across the field, with what looked like stables.

"Mother, I didn't know there was another stable just next door?" enquired Draco. Mrs Malfoy smiled.

"No there isn't dear, it's a baby goat farm," Narcissa explained smiling. "The Granger family owns it," she added.

"You know the Granger girls don't you Draco?" asked Lucius. Draco nodded.

"Yes father, Raven Granger is a Slytherin and is Head Girl and Hermione Granger is a Prefect with me, she's one of the Ravenclaw Prefects," explained Draco. "And they also have a younger sister in Ravenclaw." Added Draco. Narcissa smiled.

"They also have a fourth daughter who I think is Astrid's age," Narcissa added. Lucius nodded.

"I invited them over for lunch," concluded Lucius unlocking the door. "I think it would be nice having acquaintances with a similar background to ours in the area," he added.

"Hopefully more than just acquaintances," Narcissa added, smiling at her husband. Astrid ran into the house merrily.

"The ceiling is so high!" she exclaimed laughing. Draco grinned.

"Yeah 'Strid this is a renovated farmhouse," he explained, ruffling her hair. She giggled.

"And the beams are lovely," gushed Narcissa looking up at the ceiling. "So antique and charming."

"I want to see my room!" demanded Astrid giggling. Draco took her hand.

"Come on then, let's go explore the house," he said grinning. And together they walked off into the house. "And this must be your room," concluded Draco as he opened the door. Inside was a big room with a window that looked out onto the stables.

"Oh! I can see the horses from here!" Astrid cried out running towards the window. Draco grinned.

"Would you like to go see the horses up close 'Strid?" he asked, walking up to her. Astrid's eyes lit up and she nodded eagerly. Draco smirked. "All right then, let's go get our bags and get changed. Then I'll come to get you and we'll go see the horses, deal?" he asked.

"Deal!" she replied and ran back downstairs to get her bags. Draco chuckled to himself and followed her. He carried one of his suitcases to his room. He then helped Astrid carry hers to her room and then made his way back to his room shutting the door behind him. His room was painted in white, with one wall still made out of the original barn wood, which added, as his mother would say, 'a charming effect to the room'. He walked over to the balcony and opened it. The cool breeze rushed in and the smell of the countryside flowers filled the room. He could see the other farmhouse from his balcony. He chuckled to himself.

"So this is where the iconic Granger sisters live, huh?" he muttered to himself, smirking. He walked over to his walk-in closet and opened the doors. It was a large closet with shelves, rails and a shoe rack. He pulled his suitcase over to the closet, opened it and started putting his clothes and shoes away. He pulled out the new riding gear he had just bought; a black t-shirt, green gophers, a white jacket and white boots. He quickly changed and went over to Astrid's room and knocked.

"Come in!" called Astrid and Draco opened the door. His sister was standing in the middle of the room with a triumphant smile on her face. She was wearing a pink and white dress and was grinning maliciously at Draco.

"Oh Astrid no, you can't go riding in a dress," sighed Draco walking over to her. He bent down and looked through the suitcase she had brought up. He pulled out a pair of black gophers, a light blue t-shirt, a white jacket and black boots. "Put the gophers, t-shirt and boots on at least 'Strid, I'll carry the jacket and you'll put it on if you're cold." He turned around and she got dressed quickly.

"All done!" she exclaimed. Draco grinned.

"Come on let's go then," he said smiling and took her hand.

"There are 6 horses in the stables; Bella the black horse, Vanilla the white one, Minzy the chestnut-coloured one, Dexter the dark brown one, Caramel the golden-brown coloured one and Trix the black and white one," explained Draco.

"I want to ride Trix, can I please ride Trix?" begged Astrid. Draco grinned.

"Go ask father, I'll get the equipment out," he replied and watched her run back to the house. Draco went to the shed and got out two of everything to saddle up the horses. When Astrid came back he helped her try on helmets until they found one that fit her head. "Perfect," he said, smiling and knocking lightly on Astrid's helmet. She giggled.

"Come on dear let's get you saddled up," said Lucius and he helped his daughter prepare Trix for a ride. Draco meanwhile saddled up Vanilla and soon the three of them were out riding in the fields.

3. The New Neighbours

"Well done everyone!" said Fred Granger. "Now you can all feast on a lovely brunch that your mother prepared," he added. The four girls grinned in delight and ran into the kitchen. The family crowded around the table which was now filled with eggs, bacon, sausages, beans, toast, tomatoes and much more.

"Thanks for the food mum," said Raven.

"Yeah it's absolutely delish!" added Aurora. Amy Granger beamed.

"I'm glad you like it,'' she replied. "I wanted to treat my hard-working girls," she added. Hermione beamed.

After breakfast, Ophelia and Aurora were washing up and Hermione was helping Amy put away the condiments.

"A new family moved in next door," informed Amy.

"Oh really, who?" asked Fred.

"The Malfoy's," replied Amy, shutting the cupboard door. "I think they have a son in 'Mione's year, don't they hun?" she added. Hermione nodded.

"Yes they do, he's called Draco. He's a Prefect and he's in Slytherin," she replied.

"He's the best in his year in Slytherin house," added Raven walking in with a towel on her head. Fred smiled.

"Not too much competition I hope 'Mione?" he teased resting his hands on Hermione's shoulders. Hermione grinned.

"Maybe in potions, but otherwise I'm definitely ahead," she replied, smirking. Fred grinned and Amy rolled her eyes.

"Don't boast sweetheart," she warned. Hermione grinned.

"I'm only joking mum," she said laughing. Hermione helped put the last things away and then she headed off to have a shower.

After her shower, Hermione got dressed in a pair of white shorts and a green crop top and then she diffused her hair to bring out her natural curls, which she had finally grown to love. She did her everyday makeup; winged eyeliner, mascara and lip balm, and went back downstairs. She found her mother and Aurora baking.

"We're baking a cake to bring over to the Malfoys," explained Aurora, smiling "It's a vanilla sponge cake and I'll make pink icing to put on it," she added, grinning. Aurora loved baking. Hermione grinned.

"That's lovely Aurora!" encouraged Hermione. Amy brushed her hands on her apron and turned to Hermione.

"Why don't you, Raven and Ophelia make some cookies?" offered Amy. "The Malfoys have invited us over for lunch and I feel like we should provide dessert," she explained. Hermione nodded.

"Sure!" she answered. And with that, she ran upstairs to get her sisters. "Rav, Lia, mum wants us to make cookies to bring over to the Malfoys," explained Hermione, popping her head around Raven's door. The two girls got up and followed Hermione back to the kitchen.

Two hours later the Grangers were ready to leave, armed with a freshly baked batch of chocolate chip cookies and a large vanilla sponge cake with extra pink icing.

"Everyone ready?" asked Mr Granger. They all nodded.

"Alright let's go then, what are we all waiting for!" exclaimed Ophelia. Hermione laughed.

"Lead the way Lia!" she replied grinning. And off they went to the Malfoy's farmhouse.

4. Lunch

"Draco, go get the door, they're here!" called Narcissa from the kitchen. Draco walked to the front door and opened it.

"Welcome," he said grinning.

"Hello, you must be Draco," said Mr Granger, shaking his hand. "I'm Fred and this is my wife Amy and these are my four girls; Raven, Hermione, Ophelia and Aurora," he explained. Draco smiled and nodded.

"I already know Raven, Hermione and Ophelia from school," he explained. "Do come in and let me take your coats" he added, inviting them in and opening the door widely. The Grangers happily entered the barn house and Hermione closed the door behind her as Draco collected the coats. They smiled at each other while walking into the hall.

"Where do we put the food dear?" Mrs Granger asked Draco.

"In the kitchen right this way Mrs Granger, I'll show you" replied Draco. Amy chuckled.

"Call me Amy," she added. Draco led the family into the kitchen.

"Welcome, welcome everyone!" exclaimed Narcissa, smiling. "Astrid and I are just finishing up the fruit salad," she added beaming. Aurora eyed Astrid. The girl looked small but nice, with big blue eyes and long blonde straight hair, they should be about the same age. Aurora looked up at her mother. Amy looked at Aurora and then turned to Narcissa.

"Would you like any help with the food? I'm sure my daughters would love to help," she said smiling. Narcissa beamed.

"Well if it's not too much of a bother," she replied.

"Aurora can help with the fruit salad?" suggested Amy, smiling. Aurora nodded and shyly went to stand next to Astrid who smiled at her gratefully.

"Lucius is out in the garden working on the barbecue," added Narcissa and Raven smiled.

"I can help there, and dad can come too," Raven said and walked off to the garden with Mr Granger following her.

"Why don't you and Draco set the table, Hermione?" offered Amy. Hermione nodded.

"Of course!" she replied smiling. And so the two of them went about setting the table; bringing out plates, glasses, cutlery, napkins, jugs of water and different types of juice and many other things. Soon the two families were sitting outside at the table in the garden and they were all eating delicious food.

"This food is lovely!" exclaimed Amy, smiling brightly. Everyone nodded in agreement.

"Can you pass me the cucumber please?" Ophelia asked Astrid. Everyone was having a wonderful meal.

"So when will Astrid be going off to Hogwarts?" Fred asked Lucius.

"She only has to wait one more year, don't you, 'Strid?" Lucius replied. Amy smiled.

"Oh just like our little Aurora," added Amy. Astrid and Amy shared a grin.

"Uh oh, I smell trouble!" whispered Draco to Hermione. Hermione giggled.

"Thankfully we'll only have to deal with them for 2 years, poor Ophelia will have 5 with them," Hermione whispered back. They grinned at each other.

5. The Goat Farm

After lunch, the Malfoys and the Grangers washed the dishes and put everything away.

"What's it like having a goat farm?" asked Astrid, smiling at Hermione. Hermione smiled back.

"Well it is a lot of work but it's a lot of fun too," she replied. "We feed them and milk them twice a day and we try to stick to a 12-hour interval in between the two feeds," she explained.

"So at what time is that?" asked Astrid eagerly.

"Now 'Strid, don't pry, it's rude," warned Draco. Hermione grinned.

"It's all right," she said, chuckling. She sat down next to Astrid. "Well, we usually do it at 6 am and 6 pm, like that we keep the 12-hour interval and we wake up early and make the most of the day" she explained. "You two could join us this evening if you want," she suggested, grinning. Astrid's eyes twinkled. She turned to Draco.

"Please, please, please, can we Draco, you know father will only let me if you're here!" she begged. Draco sighed and ruffled her hair.

"All right, all right, we'll milk the baby goats," he replied.

Hermione looked at her watch; 5:47 pm.

"Draco and Astrid should be over soon to milk the goats!" she called. She went to her room and got dressed in light grey leggings and a dark red sweater. Just then there was a knock at the front door.

"I'll get it!" called Ophelia running to the door. Hermione could hear merry voices from downstairs. She quickly tied her hair in a bun and rushed down the stairs.

"Hello!" she called merrily. "Ready to feed some goats?" she asked, grinning. Draco rolled his eyes and Astrid beamed.

"Come on it's this way then!" instructed Raven, and the four Granger girls, now joined by the two Malfoy children, made their way to the farm.

"So I'll explain how we're going to do this," Hermione started as they were walking towards the farm. "We have 48 female goats and 2 male goats. We have a milking machine that can milk 8 goats at a time, so in six rounds all the female goats will have been milked and then the two male goats have to be fed too of course." She explained. "Which allows us all to have a turn" she concluded, smiling at Draco. Draco glared at her.

"I'm only here for 'Strid," he said stubbornly.

"Come on D you'll enjoy it!" insisted Astrid. Raven grinned.

"It's not that bad you know, it's quite enjoyable," Raven admitted.

So the six of them took turns feeding the goats and milking them, finishing with the two male goats who just needed feeding.

"See, it wasn't that bad," teased Ophelia. Hermione grinned.

"Lia, don't be mean now," she warned, trying not to smile too much. Draco rolled his eyes but he was grinning.

"It was alright," he admitted. The six of them walked back up to the Malfoy farmhouse for some fruit and cakes.

"So how was it?" asked Narcissa.

"It was brilliant!" gushed Astrid grinning. "Even D enjoyed it!" she added giggling. Draco glared at his sister.

6. The Stables

"Come I'll show you the stables," said Draco after they had eaten. He offered Hermione his hand. She smiled and took it and together they walked off towards the stables.

"How many horses do you have?" she asked. He grinned.

"Only 6 for now but they're all lovely," he replied. Draco opened the stable door and led Hermione inside. "Shall I give you a little tour?" he asked grinning. Hermione grinned back.

"With pleasure," she replied. Draco stuck out his arm in a joking manner and Hermione took it laughing. He led her to the 6 stables.

"So Hermione, I would like you to meet Bella, Vanilla, Minzy, Dexter, Caramel and Trix," said Draco. Hermione's eyes sparkled.

"They're all so lovely," she breathed. Draco smirked.

"Yeah they are," he replied. "Vanilla is my favourite," he admitted stroking the horse's snout. Hermione smiled. "Vanilla and Dexter are boys and Bella, Minzy, Caramel and Trix are girls," added Draco.

"They're all lovely," replied Hermione, stroking Vanilla. Draco watched her and smiled.

"Would you like to ride?" he asked her. Hermione looked at him and grinned.

"I'd love to!" she exclaimed. Draco grinned back.

"Let's go get you ready then," he replied.

While Hermione went and got changed Draco got out the equipment for him and her to saddle up. When she came back she was wearing black gophers, a green t-shirt and black boots. Draco grinned.

"Slytherin colours suit you, love," he said in a teasing voice. Hermione rolled her eyes.

"Wouldn't you have liked it if I were a Slytherin," she teased back. Draco grinned.

"Well isn't your family full of Slytherins?" he asked, leaning back against the door.

"Well Raven and my dad are," explained Hermione. "Ophelia and I are Ravenclaws like our mum," she added. Draco smiled.

"What about Aurora, what do you think she will be?" he asked. Hermione grinned.

"Slytherin," she replied. "And I think she's found her perfect partner in crime today." Draco laughed.

"Yeah I'm sure 'Strid feels the same way," he responded, chuckling. Hermione grinned. "Come on now, are we going riding or not?" he teased. Hermione grinned at him.

"You bet we are!" she replied. Together they mounted their horses and rode off into the fields.

7. Sunset

Hermione and Draco stopped in a field by a small stream.

"It's so pretty here," Hermione said in a small voice. Draco smiled.

"Have you not been out here before?" he asked her. She shook her head.

"No, we moved here at the end of last summer and we never got the chance to explore very far," she admitted. They sat down on the grass and watched the stream for a while.

"So Granger, what do you want to be when you're finished with Hogwarts?" Draco asked. Hermione looked at him and frowned.

"I never really thought about it," she admitted. Draco smiled and looked up at the sky.

"I want to be a healer," he explained. Hermione looked at him intrigued.

"How come, I'd have thought you would like to join the ministry," Hermione said. Draco chuckled softly.

"And I thought you would have already planned out your future Granger," he replied. Draco leaned towards her and tucked a strand of Hermione's hair behind her ear. "I want to be a healer because I want to bring change into this family, and frankly I quite enjoy potions and herbology," he explained. Hermione nodded.

"I see," she said. They sat in silence for a while. "I think I would like to work in the ministry, but in the education branch," Hermione said. She sighed. "And ideally I would like to be a writer." Draco looked at her and frowned a little.

"What's stopping you?" he asked her. She shrugged.

"I don't know, it's just such an uncertain career, it doesn't seem worth it," she admitted. Draco chuckled.

"If anyone were to become a successful writer in our year it's you, Granger, you're the only person that I know who puts so much life and passion into your writing, even if you do it during our potions activities which doesn't seem like the ideal time but still," Draco teased. Hermione groaned.

"I'm sorry," she replied and Draco chuckled.

"You're a smart witch Hermione," Draco admitted.

"You are too Draco," she replied, smiling at him. Hermione lay on Draco's lap and he stroked her hair. Draco cleared his throat and Hermione looked up at him.

"Why did you and Weasley break up?" he asked her, avoiding eye contact. Hermione shrugged.

"I broke up with him because it wasn't working out," she said simply. There was a small pause. "He didn't like the fact that I kept in contact with Victor Krum," she added. Draco chuckled.

"It's his loss, Granger," he replied, smiling a little. Hermione frowned and sat up.

"Why don't you date Parkinson?" Hermione asked him. "You know she likes you. It's so obvious that she likes you," she added. Draco sighed.

"Because she makes it so obvious," he replied. "I need someone I can chase, someone who makes it worth it," he said in a low voice. Draco's pale eyes met Hermione's warm brown gaze. She blushed and looked awake. Draco chuckled. "Someone like you, for instance, Granger," he added in a low voice. He took her hand and she looked at him. Hermione could feel her cheeks blush. His gaze locked with hers. The wind was playing with her hair and the birds were singing. The sun was slowly setting, casting a golden glow over the two of them. Hermione could feel her stomach flutter as Draco leaned in. He kissed her softly, only just lightly brushing his lips against hers. The kisses became longer and more passionate and he pulled her onto his lap. A small sigh escaped Hermione's lips and she felt Draco chuckle. Hermione sat back and looked at him. His blond hair was slightly wavy, his pale eyes were sparkling, and his lips were the perfect shape and so inviting. And Draco looked at her. Her long brunette curly locks tumbling over her shoulders, her warm brown gaze, her pink and freckled cheeks and her dainty and defined lips which were almost begging him to kiss her again. Draco brushed back a strand of her hair and tucked it behind her ear. He then gently pulled her back into a kiss. Slow and passionate. "Be my girlfriend Granger," mumbled Draco between kisses. "Be my girlfriend and you will make me the happiest man alive." Hermione giggled but her giggle turned into a moan as his trail of kisses made its way to her neck. She sighed.

"What about Pansy?" she asked him. He looked at her.

"There's nothing with Pansy, I want you," Draco replied. "I've always wanted you, you're smart and beautiful," he said in a low voice stroking her lips with his thumb. He chuckled. "I always thought you would think too lowly of me," he admitted. Hermione smiled.

"Of course not," she replied, cupping his face in her hands and kissing his nose. "And of course, I'll be your girlfriend Malfoy," she added smiling. Draco grinned and kissed her hard. He rolled her over so that he was on top of her and kept on kissing her lips, cheeks and neck while she wrapped her legs around his waist.

"You are like a goddess Hermione Granger," Draco growled between kisses. Hermione laughed and kissed him hard.

"Come on lover boy we should be getting back now," Hermione reminded him a bit out of breath. He sighed and helped her up. They mounted their horses again and rode off. At the top of the hill, they stopped and watched the sun sink behind the hills. It was a beautiful sunset. Draco gazed at Hermione who was looking at the sunset, her face was lit up but the last rays of sunshine of that day, her eyes were sparkling and she was smiling. Hermione looked over at Draco, so elegant and composed but she could see the light and happiness in his eyes. They smiled at each other and headed back home.
