Lorelai woke up the next morning before her alarm. She looked over at the makeshift bed next to hers. Her new foster sister was still asleep. She smiled. She couldn't believe what had happened. Like everything in her life, things happened so fast she hadn't had a chance to really think about it. She turned off her alarm so as not to wake the young girl up. She didn't need to wake her up before she was ready. This was newer to her little sister. She was just eleven. She remembered being eleven. Or what she thought was eleven.
She stretched before looking at her phone and checking emails. She had texted Rebecca and told her everything had worked out, but she had an email from her today. She opened it and it was not a pleasant email.
Lorelai,
What were you thinking?! Yes, it ended on a good note I am glad Rachel is safe and with you, but you didn't have to go about it the way you did. You have a second chance at a real family, and you keep taking these stupid risks. If your social worker wanted to, she could pull you from that home for not being taken care of properly. You risked your life when all you had to do was ask for help. You also risked Rachel's safety going about it the way you did.
At this point I don't know if I should trust you enough to tell you things like this anymore. Your foster father when he called me about it told me not to anymore to call and tell him instead. And for the time being that is what I am going to do. Just like you had to do what was right and tell them about me knowing something about Jessica's murder. I have to do what's right and protect you. Anything further I find out I wont be telling you.
-Becca
Lorelai sighed a bit before getting up and heading out to the kitchen and grabbing a cup of coffee. Aaron had already started it, so he was up before her today. She scrolled the rest of her emails as she drank her coffee. Aaron came into the kitchen. "Good morning. Is Rachel still sleeping?" He asked
Lorelai nodded. "Morning. Yes, she is."
"I am warning you now. Do not give Morgan a hard time while I am not there." He told her
"When have I? Other than this particular situation…" She asked
"Okay. Good. Than you two wont have an issue." He told her
Lorelai nodded before going and changing into her work attire and heading out to her car. She went to therapy first texting Morgan to make sure he knew about it so she would be late.
Morgan got the text and responded telling her it was fine. He knew that Hotch was haven't an issue with her actually going to therapy, so he wasn't about to cause an issue and he also knew it was important for her mental health.
JJ came to Morgan and told him about a case. They went to the conference with the rest of the team, and they discussed it before heading to the jet.
After her therapy she saw the text from Morgan telling her to head straight to the jet when she was done with her appointment.
It was going to be strange to not have Agent Hotch there, but it had to happen eventually. She got on the jet and sat down with the team to get debriefed as the jet set its path to Arizona.
Lorelai was of course not in the field and to be honest she was getting annoyed with it, but she had Hotch's warning going though her brain. She was the only one from the team at the station. She as there with the officers from that station of course but her team was out fighting crime and she was just waiting at this point.
Morgan called into the station asking Lorelai to check something about a suspect and found that he was about a block from that station. And several blocks from where the rest of the team was. "I could go with a couple of the officers and bring him in." She offered
"Not happening Agent Davies. We will go and bring him in." Morgan told her
"But by the time you get there he could be gone." Agent Davies pointed out
"Than we will find him elsewhere. You are not allowed in the field." Morgan said hanging up the call
Lorelai was frustrated. She was just as capable of doing it as the rest of the team. She got up from her seat and went for a walk. She went and sat outside the police station on a bench. This was all to much. To much had changed for her lately and she couldn't deal anymore.
The team went to the location Lorelai had told them about and caught the suspect and brought him in. When they pulled up Morgan noticed the young agent sitting outside. He told the rest of the team to get the suspect into interrogation and headed over to Lorelai and sat with her. "What's wrong?" He asked her.
Lorelai looked up at him. "This isn't fair. How am I less capable now than I was when I started working for the FBI almost a year ago?"
Morgan shook his head. "You know this isn't about capabilities. Its about rules. Your sixteen. Legally a minor. How do you think it would look to the world if they found out the FBI allowed a minor into the field? With guns and people who wouldn't hesitate to hurt you."
"No one would need to know?" She pointed out
"But someone would find out. And it wouldn't end well. We need to be able to help people and we cant if we get in trouble and people stop trusting us." He told her. "You are beyond capable, and you help a lot from inside police stations and the FBI." He told her.
Lorelai sighed. "I just want to do more."
Morgan nodded "And in less than two years. you will be back in the field. Until than you just have to deal with it and know that its for the best. Now come inside and help me interrogate this suspect." He told her standing up.
Lorelai nodded and stood up as well heading inside to help Morgan and the rest of the team.
Meanwhile in Virginia
Hotch and Rachel were getting to know each other and setting up the proper second bed in the bedroom for Rachel. Hotch made a mental note to give Lorelai some money to take Rachel shopping for some new clothes. It was something that he thought could help the two re-bond and definitely something that if he didn't have to do would be preferable.
Hotch also checked online at houses locally for his little family to move to. They would be needing more room for sure. It was a tight squeeze in the bedroom currently housing the two girls. Hotch had been informed about the team heading to Arizona and he figured they would end up being there for a few days.
After the day had turned into night and they had eaten dinner he sat down with Rachel to go over what he thought she should know. About the rules and expectations and about how she would be safe there and never have to worry about the things she had already gone through happening while she was living there. Also let her know she would be required to go to therapy and that he had made her an appointment with a local child phycologist in a couple days.
Rachel listened to her new foster father. Lorelai had told her that he was a good guy and that he would take good care of her but that he had rules and expectations. She was okay with that. She was okay with anything as long as she was safe.
Back in Arizona
Lorelai had helped Morgan interrogate the suspect and the two of them were able to trick him into confession to the crimes they were there investigating. The local police took the criminal from there leaving the FBI to handle their paperwork. Morgan decided that they could finish the paperwork on the jet, and they all headed there as soon as they could and headed home.
On the jet Lorelai did her paperwork but otherwise was quiet. Spencer noticed and sat with her. "Something wrong?" He asked her whether or not they were allowed to be together romantically didn't mean he didn't still have feeling and he still cared about her.
Lorelai looked up. "I am starting to realize that maybe I'm more of a liability to the FBI than helpful. I know what I do helps but I cant be in the field because if the public found out it could hurt the FBI and its abilities to help others in the future. I'm pretty sure the only reason the director didn't fire me is he felt bad for me." She said
Spencer shook his head. "No. That is not true. You are very helpful, and the FBI yes technically could look bad if people had issue with your age, but the director wants to protect you. We all do. Because we all care about you."
"The reason I am not in the field is because you all think I cant protect myself?" She asked
"That is not what I am saying. You are very stubborn anyone ever tell you that?" Spencer asked smiling
Lorelai nodded and chuckled. "Yes. A few times."
"Lorelai. You would not be here if the director didn't want you to be. You will be allowed back in the field when you are eighteen. You are not a liability. You are an asset." Spencer told the young agent
Lorelai sighed. "If you say so."
Spencer nodded not long after the conversation they landed back in Virginia. Morgan took all their paperwork and went and dropped it off at the office while everyone else headed home.
