Dialogue from 'The doctor in the photo' with some minor changes that I'm sure you won't even notice.

Here's chapter 5

(Author's note at the end!)

Brennan insisted that Lauren Eames didn't have a drug problem. The evidence proved it. Also, she wouldn't do something like that.

Hannah was there as Booth and Brennan argued. "Maybe someone shot her up with heroin before killing her.

Brennan thanked Hannah for 'eavesdropping'.

"Bones, Why are you taking this so personally?" Booth's hands were on his hips. "You're acting as though you're the one who's being accused of taking drugs"

Brennan looked down to hide her eyes full of tears.

"Temperance, are you alright?" Hannah asked worriedly.

"Yes...of course." Brennan wiped her cheeks. "I'm just tired. I, um...I haven't been sleeping well and...I'm sorry." She left Booth's office, Booth and Hannah stood there with shock written in their faces.

The next day she met with Sweets at the diner. "Dr. Lauren Eames dealt with stress in two ways; A- she became logical to the extreme. B- she detached herself."

He explained to her the profile he'd made of Lauren Eames. "You are not alone in this world. That is one of the many ways you're different from the victim."

Once again, she stayed at the lab instead of going home while listening to the recorded files. She found some information, an address.

Brennan called a cab and went out to the address. 1255b Franklin St, Woodland.

It was pouring rain when she got out of the cab. She kneeled down to inspect some thing and didn't notice the headlights of a car that was about to hit her.

"Bones!"

Booth grabbed her, pulling her to the safe side of the road.

"What are you doing here?" Brennan shouted at Booth. The heavy rain made it hard to speak and hear normally.

"I don't know, following you to a bad part of town and saving your life, you know, the usual, you?"

She explained it to him Lauren went there to talk to the family of a brain dead boy. She wanted the heart for Sam Dworsky.

They hurried to his SUV.

The ride was quiet until she decided to speak.

"I made a mistake."

Booth shook his head. "No, you were right."

"She died with regrets."

"Why do you say that?" His voice was quiet.

"She never gave him a chance."

Booth knew what she was talking about.

"I got it, the signal. I don't want any regrets."

Booth looked away from the road to look at her for a few minutes. She gave him a small sad smile. He didn't want to break her heart...

"I'm with someone Bones..."

Brennan lowered her head. She avoided looking at him completely.

"Hannah, she's not a consolation prize. I love her."

She sobbed. Her whole body felt heavy. Her chest also felt cold and empty.

"The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But those are the facts."

Brennan sniffled. "I understand." She lifted her head to stare right ahead.

She wiped her tears with her trembling hands. She shifted her eyes to look out the window. "I missed my chance." Her voice wavered. "My world turned upside down. I can adjust." She closed her eyes.

"I did"

"Yes, you did. You moved on."

Booth looked at Brennan. He couldn't see her face. Oh God, he made her cry.

"Want me to call someone to be with you or-?" She cut him off.

"No, I'm fine alone...I've always been alone."

He nodded silently. The car parked in front of her apartment building. She opened the door and climbed out.

"See you tomorrow?"

"I don't know." She closed the door and walked to the entrance of the building.

Booth punched the steering wheel in frustration. He'd hurt her.

Here I go again with apologies: I had chapters 5 to 8 written but didn't have the time to type them up. I have a full time job and most of my free time I use it to rest.

Chapter 6 is going to be up in a few hours :)
