(takes place after chapter 5)

After Booth dropped her off in front of her building, she heard some whining. She looked around until she found a curled up puppy behind the recycling bins. Brennan knelt in front of him. He or she seemed to be injured.

With caution, she lifted the puppy into her arms and went up her building. For a moment she didn't know where to put her tiny new friend while she got the first aid kit. She put him on her rug. The rug was fluffy and soft, the small puppy was definitely going to be a bit more comfortable.

Brennan came back to find the puppy had bled on to her rug. She carefully flipped her (she discovered it was female) on to her side and saw with more clarity that the puppy's paw was badly bitten. she could see the teeth marks.

The puppy couldn't be older than a year old. It was small and her ribs were starting to show. She whined as Brennan pressed a gauze on her injured paw. Brennan tried to calm her down by gently petting her head.

When she was a bit more calm, Brennan came with a bowl of fresh water and a cup with sliced apples. She didn't have any meat or dog food but the puppy ate the apple just fine.

Hours passed, the pup had calmed down but the bleeding didn't stop. It was late at night but Brennan decided to take her to the vet. She'd seen an animal ER around Alexandria so she was going to take her.

Brennan set up her passenger seat to make the puppy's ride easy and comfortable. She pet her head and scratched behind her ear.

"You're going to be okay."
