He has fought in many battles: the first horrible one for Edmund's life and Narnia's freedom; the mock battles where Lucy and Susan cheered themselves hoarse for him; the skirmishes with the giants on the Northern borders, when the enemy could step on him as easily as stab him.

This battle will be harder than some, though the stakes are lower than most, and Peter prays the prayer he has prayed before each and every one one of his battles:

"If I triumph, let me triumph in honor, in mercy, and to Your glory. And if I fail, let that also be in honor and to Your glory. Protect me and strengthen me. In the name of Aslan, Amen."

He raises his head over his desk and waits for the exam to start.
