Courtship

Janna walked into the Diaz house before Marco followed her in and closed the door behind them. She nonchalantly strolled in as confidently as ever. It still surprised Marco, however. She must have known that they haven't spent time alone together in years so he expected her to feel a little nervous or awkward. Marco certainly was. He knows how to entertain and please his friends when the group of four were together but Janna by herself made his train of thought lag. He wondered if he was thinking too hard about it. The two were best friends. Hanging out should come naturally. It shouldn't be a complicated endeavor.

"I'm gonna occupy your couch." Janna told him, entering the living room.

"Okay.." Marco accepted. Janna yawned and sat down on an end of the couch. She began taking her shoes off and Marco watched as her feet were revealed to be covered by her purple leggings. Janna left her footwear off to the side on the comfy furniture.

"Damn, I'm so drained.. I just wanna sit back for the rest of the day." She said before sitting back, letting the cushion of the couch hug her.

"Ha.. Yeah.." Marco approached the couch. "You still have that introverted energy, huh?"

"Yup." She responded with a chuckle. They stayed quiet for a moment, causing Janna to look at Marco with a raised brow. "What are you standing for? Sit with me, you awkward nerd." Marco snickered and took a seat on the opposite end of the couch.

"Let me turn on the TV." Marco looks around his area for the remote but had no luck finding it. "Um.. Do you see it anywhere?" He asked Janna. She looked around for a moment not seeing it either.

"Oh, am I sitting on it?" She asks before scooting closer to Marco and checking her previous spot. It was there. "Oops. Here." She grabs it and gives it to her friend.

"Thank you." Marco took the control and turned the TV on. He noticed Janna didn't move back to her spot. She was comfortably sitting next to him. Almost touching legs. He tried to ignore it and focused on the TV. "Wh-What do you wanna watch? A movie?"

"Put Brain Slave on.." Janna told him. "I could use a good laugh."

"Alright.." Marco chuckled and opened a movie streaming app on the TV. The extravagant splash screen upon opening the app broke the quietness the two shared, for a moment, at least. This situation felt so strange to Marco. Was this okay? Was Janna bored or feeling uncomfortable? Before, the two could chat with no long moments of silence but lately Marco has felt taken aback around Janna.

"I'm hot.." She surprised him as he was in thought. She sat up straight and removed her leather jacket, revealing her gray tank top underneath. Marco couldn't help but look. The top hugged Janna's torso so snug, outlining her waist and chest very noticeably. The top tucked into her skirt. Was it the type of tank that went over panties so it wouldn't come out of the tuck? What were they called? Body suits? "That's better." Marco looked away, realizing what he was doing. "Hey, if you're lucky, I'll get hot enough to take my skirt off too."

"Sh-Shut up!" Marco chuckled, desperately trying to find the movie through the horrible user interface of the app. Janna giggled under her breath. "Here it is.." Marco said with an exhale of relief. He selects it and the movie begins. An opaque side menu gives him options like pausing and rating.

"Wait." Janna told him. Marco looks at her and is drawn to her eyes. There was something almost seductive about them. "Some snacks would really hit the spot right now."

"All-Alright!.." Marco stood up and walked backwards to the kitchen, stumbling on furniture. "I'll make some popcorn and get us some.. uh.. drinks!" He shouted with a point. "What do you—..What do you, uh, want?"

"Green tea." Janna responded and stood up, stretching out her back. "You know how I like it."

"Really, really strong.." Marco answered with a smile. Janna began to walk upstairs.

"You better not put anything in my drink." She joked. "I don't fall asleep so easily."

"I—.." Marco sighed, not wanting to be toyed with any longer. "..Yeah.." He entered the kitchen and Janna reached the second floor. She continued through until she arrived at the bathroom. She closes the door behind her and leans against it with her back. A sharp exhale escapes her nose and a big smile slowly takes over. Her muscles tense and she shakes in excitement.

The sun was once again setting on the town of Echo Creek. Traffic hour was starting, filling the streets with a collage of automobiles driven by citizens trying to get home. The space princess, Star Butterfly, walked down the sidewalks, admiring the views while keeping an eye out for a suitable base of operations. She needed seclusion, comfort, and a high ground for her spot. If she was to get her memories back and keep her business out of the innocent bystanders, these qualities were essential.

"A big empty roof would be good.." She said to herself while lifting the straps of her backpack to a more comfortable position on her shoulders. "Shouldn't be too hard to find!" She continues merrily down the cement path until she comes across an inconspicuous alley. It looked dank and dreary. Not at all suitable for people to inhabit with content. "Here seems empty.."

Star innocently enters the opening away from the hospitable Main Street. As she made it further in, pleasantness became scarcer and a looming sense of eyes watching her became easier to feel. She explored deeper and deeper in. Star felt no fear.

"Something hidden should be around here.." She says aloud, not caring for being in the advantage of silence. She's made turn after turn, coming across overfilled dumpsters and boarded up windows and doors. Eventually, she comes across an abandoned fire escape, traveling up the side of a building. It was rusty and the metal bars of the stairs had many holes corroded away in them. "Haha! Here we go." As she prepared to jump for the ladder attached to the escape, she heard an unfamiliar voice speak out.

"Hey.." Star turned her head toward the sound and saw a dirty, scruffy-looking man. He was wearing a very large brown coat that covered his body down to his knees. His blue jeans has many tears and stains. He had socks with holes in them in sandals that were barely holding up. His brown hair was filthy and out of control. He looked like he hadn't had a good night's sleep in weeks. He approached Star with a sinister chuckle, reaching into his coat.

"Sorry! I found it first!" Star told him in a childlike manner. "So, go away!" She says with a hand waving him off. The man brought out a small knife from his clothes and pointed it at Star. It was only inches away from her face as it was shakily held by the man.

"T—.. Take off.." He muttered, keeping a yellow, toothy grin prominent. "Take it off!.. All of it!" He commanded, a menacing lust filling his red eyes.

"What? My clothes?" Star asked, not sure what was happening. "I would but Jackie said to keep them on.." She told him with a disappointed tone. The man's chuckles continued and his free hand reached toward Star's chest. It groped her breast and rubbed up and down her torso. "Hm..?" Star just watched his hand lay onto her, not feeling any sort of sensation. "Do you like yellow?" The man didn't say a word. He just kept touching her with a malicious chortle. "Hmm.. I'm gonna go." The brandished knife scooted closer to her face as if to get her attention.

"Take.. your pants.. off.." He told her with grit. Star looked into his eyes. She didn't like them. She saw emptiness and abandonment. Evil and desperation. Star grabbed the blade of the knife and bent perpendicular to it until it broke. Pure metal snapping like a twig. "Agh!.." The assaulter backed off, shocked.

"No." She said firmly and looked up to the ladder. Once again, she prepared to leap for her destination but suddenly felt a rugged warmth wrap around her from behind. It was the man holding onto her tightly. His groin was pushed up against her butt and his left hand crossed over her chest and grabbed her breast. His other hand was grabbing onto Star's throat, trying to strangle her. Both of his hands were clenching as tight as they could but it only made Star angry. Before things could escalate any more, she powerfully drove her elbow back toward the man's gut.

"Gah!.." Air escaped his lungs, leaving him hunched over in pain. The intense feeling made him fall to his knees. He was struggling to even remain conscious. Star watched him grab onto his stricken area. In just one half-hearted blow, she rendered the attacker basically incapacitated. "Crazy.. bitch!..." He snarled out, almost vomiting.

"Hm.." Star turned away from him and jumped to the ladder. She began her ascension away from the scoundrel.

Marco was in his kitchen, waiting for the electric kettle to boil his water. His eyes were locked on the water through a clear view of the kettle's surface. Ripples gradually formed as its temperature rose. Marco's eyes may have been unflinching but his thoughts were occupied with something else. He couldn't stop thinking about Janna. What will it be like when she comes back from the restroom? Awkward? Fun? Boring? It made him so anxious. He shouldn't be this anxious when it comes to his close friends but he couldn't stop himself from worrying.

Upstairs, Janna was washing her hands, being done with her business. She dries them with a nearby hand towel and looks at herself in the mirror. The tank top she had on fit her well. It seemed to hug her in all the right places and even showed a bit of cleavage. She pushes her breasts together to make a deeper line before releasing them.

"The fuck am I doing?.." She asks herself with a giggle. "..." She looks away from the mirror and towards the door. She quickly changes her mind and goes back to the mirror, looking closely at her face. No eye boogers. No unibrow. Any nose hair? Nope. "Wait.." She cups her hands over her mouth and breaths out.. Fish.. That damn bento. "Shit.."

Back downstairs, Marco was pouring the hot water into the cups with the tea balls. Janna's cup had many leaves of straight green tea while his had lemon tea leaves and lots of honey.

"Maybe a little snack on the side will be good.." He said to himself and looked through the pantry filled with many essential foods and some that weren't. "What would she.. like?.."

Janna exited the bathroom, feeling refreshed and prepared. She walked down the hall and passed Marco's room. She slowed down to take a peak. Walking closer to the room, something pleasant hit her nose. Marco's scent. It made her heart skip a beat. She shakes her head and walks downstairs. As she entered the living room, she heard the sound of rummaging through plastic. It was coming from the kitchen.

"Chips with tea?.. Ugh.." Marco muttered to himself. Janna entered the kitchen and watched him search shoulder-deep in the pantry. She smiled and quietly approached him. He was open for a surprise attack. Janna was inches away from him. She was strangely excited.

"HEY, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" Janna blurted out as she grabbed the sides of Marco's stomach. The moment her hands made contact with him, he shot up and loudly bumped his head at the the top of the pantry. He pulls himself out and leans his back against it, taken aback at Janna's action. They stare at each other in a brief silence before Janna bursts out with a laugh. "You goddamn weirdo!"

"Y-Y-You're the one that grabbed me out of nowhere!" Marco blushed in embarrassment. "I didn't even hear you!"

"You should know better than to leave yourself vulnerable around me." Janna told him, being fueled by his responses.

"I guess you're right.." Marco agreed. "I have to make sure to keep a watchful eye on you again." Janna raised her brows momentarily at this remark.

"You watch me often?.." She asked with a sly grin, leaning in a bit closer to him.

"Uh—.." Marco choked up. What was he supposed to say to that? His back was against the pantry and Janna was blocking his only way out of there. He had just realized he was basically cornered by her. "The—.. The tea's ready!" He said suddenly.

"Wh-What?" Janna asked. Marco looked past her at the tea sitting on the counter.

"The tea.." He repeated and squeezed past Janna. "Excuuuse me.. Ha.." He tried his best not to accidentally rub up against her. He got past her and picked up his cup. "I-If we're not getting snacks, let's go sit!" He walks away toward the living room, the back of his head hiding his blushing face.

"..." Janna watched him go. Unsure of what to make of his demeanor. Was she inching closer to her desire or getting further? She tries her best to stay confident. The night's not over yet.

Star ascended the old, dilapidated building through the fire escape. She looked at all the windows, seeing boards covering them all. This was good. It proved that the building was secure from most angles. She continued to inspect the structure as she grew closer to the roof. By now, she was around 15 meters high.

The last level of the fire escape has made contact with her feet. She can see the layout of the roof now. There was some trash around, meaning somebody has been up here not too long ago. Luckily the door that led to the inside of the building was barred tightly. She didn't have to worry about anyone sneaking up on her from it. Star hops onto the top level of the building and investigates further, finding only an empty and somewhat messy roof. As far as she can tell, this was absolutely acceptable.

"Star likes, Star likes!" She said with her hands on her hips, satisfied with her find. "..." Her smile faded and she took a deep breath. "Marco would want me to clean.." She takes her hands off her hips and groans, not excited to tidy up. However, the thought of her friends wanting better for her kept her going.

Star found a tipped-over metal trash can and began to fill it up with the filth she found lying around. As she cleaned, she looked at the vista her headquarters gave her. Echo Creek had it's less than appealing parts of the town but it also had many beautiful areas. From the quaint suburbia, to the business collectives of the main streets, to the more scenic routes with palms and cacti inhabiting it. Star wouldn't mind calling this place home.

The roof was starting to look much more hospitable. Most of the garbage was in the trash can she had found. She decided she can use her light magic to spark a fire in it once it got dark. Finally, at peace with her living conditions, Star decided to rest. She takes a seat at the edge of the building, letting her legs dangle at the knee. A sigh escapes her lungs.

"...I'm hungry." She grabs her backpack and looks inside to see what Marco and Jackie had packed for her. She looks inside and sees a bright pastel box sitting on top of the other items. The box had an elaborately fancy-looking logo with posh font that Star could barely read. It said "bon." Lowercase and with a period. "Hm.." Star removes the box from the bag and opens it, revealing four swirled pastries topped with a white substance. A gasp escapes Star's mouth. "Cum!" She says excitedly before ripping one of the four out with her hand. She didn't care if it made her fingers sticky.

Star watched the liquid-y substance ooze downward. It trailed toward the floor. Star squealed, liking the movement of the cream. She sticks her tongue out and raised the bun up so the end of the trail touches the tip of her taste. She slowly lowers the food and lets the goo spread throughout her mouth. She ends her movement by licking the pastry from the base to the top.

"Mmmm!..." She moans, unable to limit the satisfaction to quietness. Star's irises shape into hearts. Nothing mattered more than this bun in her hand. She loses control and devours the sweet delight without a hint of composure. In seconds, it was gone before Star even realized what she had. "...Good thing I have three more!" As she excitedly opened the bun box for another round of deliciousness, her eye caught a figure in the distance.

Across the street from the building Star took over was a city park. A simple but quaint park that had a jungle gym for the kids, benches for the adults, and wide grass fields for the animals. It was getting dark so all the goers had left. All but one elderly woman sitting on a bench with her lonesome. She looked rather distraught, depressed even. Star could swear she could hear faint sounds of sadness from her.

"..." Star looked at the ambrosia-like experience she held in her hands and back to the woman. These treats can wait but that woman needs a shoulder to cry on now. Star put down her buns and stood up, determined.

One of the many activities Marco and his friends would do is watch bad movies and pick fun at them. Some of their favorite films were ones that were arguably bad pieces of art but held a special place in their hearts because of a well-timed joke that one of them threw in or because the plot had a plethora of holes they loved to point out. Marco and Janna decided to put one of these movies on yet they have been relatively quiet for almost thirty minutes.

Marco looked across the couch at Janna without turning his head to her. He was almost scared to get her attention. Her eyes were fixated on the TV and her hands securely held her cup of tea as her legs curled up on the couch. She was so comfortable. Did she feel this tension in the air that Marco felt? Was there even a tension? Maybe there isn't and she knew that but.. in that case, was she aware that there could be a tension and she has just completely dismissed the feeling of anxiety it causes? Why would Marco even be feeling any kind of tension with Janna to begin with? Maybe he's coming off as creepy? Should he try to move further away? He was at edge of the couch though. Was it starting to get hot?

"Marco." Janna's voice makes Marco jolt in surprise, spilling some of the tea he had onto his hand.

"Ah! Sss!" Marco placed his lip on the scolding liquid and sucked it off his hand. "Mm?.." He looked at her. "Y-Yeah?"

"You okay?" She asked him, looking at his eyes. Was she blinking? Her gaze is so intimidating for some reason. Wait, was he staring for too long?

"Yeah! Mhm!.." Marco looked away at the TV. He could tell Janna was still looking at him from the corner of his eye. He hasn't drank his tea in a while. He indulges himself. Maybe it'll take his mind off things.

"...Your face is red." Janna told him. Marco looked at her, surprised, forcing a sip of his tea down his throat.

"Well it, uh.. it does feel a little warm in here.." He says. "Plus, I'm drinking hot tea. Haha.."

"You have an undershirt beneath that flannel don't you? Just take it off." This suggestion made Marco's heart skip a beat.

"Oh.. Uh.. Okay." Marco leans forward and sets his tea down on the coffee table in front of the couch. He begins to unbutton his shirt from top to bottom, slowly revealing the light grayish blue shirt he always wore. Upon removing his shirt, Marco folds it and sets it down on the arm rest next to him. It felt like Janna was watching him the whole time.

"Better?" She asked as she set her half-empty cup on the table.

"Yeah.." Marco smiled, getting a short exhale from Janna. She looked back at the TV and groaned slightly.

"Dammit, we missed one of the best parts." She complained. "Go back." Janna reached for the remote between them.

"I got it." As did Marco. Their hands make contact, with Janna's on top. "Oh! Sorry!" Marco pulls his hand away but is stopped. Janna grabbed his hand with her's and didn't let go. Marco looks at her with shock. Her eyes were locked onto his. The soft look on her face was entrancing. Marco didn't know why but he couldn't look away.

"What?" Janna asked in a hushed tone, giving a little smile. She leaned forward, closing a short distance between her face and Marco's.

"Why do you.." Marco said as he leaned back, trying to create a short distance. "..always mess with me?.." Janna kept leaning in, not letting him get away.

"I don't know.." She told him. Marco was at the edge of the couch. He couldn't back away any more. Before he knew it his legs were on the seat cushions and he was lying down. "It just felt natural the moment I met you."

"Natural?.." He asked her. Their breathing became more audible. The beating of their hearts' demanding it. Janna was on top of him, her hand and his locked at the fingers now.

"I guess.." Janna felt like she can lose control at any moment. She's only ever dreamt of this moment but it finally arrived. "..it's just an excuse to get closer to you.." Their faces were just centimeters apart now.

"Janna.." Their senses were lost to each other as their lips weren't sure when was the time to go in. Their mouths travelled along each other's faces, softly brushing up against their chins and cheeks. And just like that, their lips connected. They prolonged it. Embraced it. Relishing every sensation they felt. Upon release, Janna lowered her face to the side of Marco's. He felt her begin to shake. "Hey,.. you okay?" He asked her softly. She was laughing. It slowly became more noticeable. She raised her head and looked at Marco with a blissed smile. He couldn't help but join her, making her laugh even more emotional.

"What the fuck are you laughing for?!" She asked him in her hysteria.

"No reason.. What about you?" Marco responded the same way.

"I—.. I don't fucking know!!" She squeezed Marco tight, unable to contain herself. "You're making me look stupid!" She whined.

"...That's okay.." He assured her. "You can be stupid with me." The two give each other loving looks before continuing their sensual haven.

It was getting darker out in Echo Creek. The park Star entered was becoming shrouded in blackness. The trees now looking like silhouettes out of range of the few lampposts in the area. Under one of these posts was an old woman sitting on a bench, sobbing. She was wearing a pale red blouse, a multicolored scarf of turquoise, tan, and white, navy blue pants, and black leather slippers. Star approached her carefully.

"Ah.. Hiiii.." Star spoke as subtly as she could. She still startled the old woman though. She jolted up at the sound of Star and looked at her with wide eyes.

"Oh.. You scared me." She said with a laugh. "What's a young girl like you doing out here at a time like this?" Her voice sounded slightly pestered, as if she had some disappointment in Star.

"What about you?" Star stood in front of her comfortably with her arms behind her back.

"Kid, I'm in my sixties."

"Really?"

"...Hahaha!" The woman burst out in laughter. "I guess I'm more of a looker than I thought! The graying hair didn't tip you off?" She said jokingly. Something about her mannerisms gave Star a sense of familiarity. She wasn't sure why.

"Why are you crying?" Star took a seat next to her, ready for conversation. The woman looked away from her, wiping any tears she might have running down her face.

"I used to come to this park with my daughter quite often." She told Star with sniffles between some words. "Relaxing and taking in the view must have gotten me caught up in some.. more than tender feelings."

"Oh.." Star looked down. "You must miss her. She probably misses you too. I miss my mom."

"Where's your mother now?" The woman asked, intrigued.

"...Probably really far away." Star said solemnly. "I can't remember the last time I saw her." The woman couldn't help but feel an immediate connection with Star. Both have lost some someone dear to their hearts.

"Who do you live with now?" The woman asked.

"I live alone up there!" Star pointed at the top of the abandoned building across the street.

"Oh, it's okay." The woman laughed. "You don't have to tell me."

"Okay." Star smiled at her. They briefly look at each other before breaking into a small laugh.

When Marco met Janna, she was incredibly difficult to approach. He had gotten paired with her for a science project in Junior High. It was a grueling week-long endeavor that tested his patience and courage. By this time, it was widely accepted around school that Janna was a weirdo, very volatile, and impossible to talk to. When the teacher randomly assigned groups of two and teamed Marco up with this infamous student, his heart sank. How was he supposed to cooperate with someone like this? His straight "A" was at an undeniable risk.

For six days, Marco did most of the work. He bought the supplies, did the studying, and wrote everything down. He hated himself for being such a coward with her. He never so much as complained about her work ethic.

On their final night of working on the project, Marco clumsily destroyed their project, making all his hardship pointless. He called the Ordonia household and informed Janna of this.

"I messed it all up.." He told her over the phone. Even after all that, he even added "I'm sorry" before hanging up.

The next day, it was time to present the projects to the class. Janna wasn't there. Marco was about to receive his first "F". As he was about to tell the teacher he didn't have a finished assignment, Janna walked in late to class. She had their project but it was slightly different. The handwriting and placement of information on the large folding board wasn't the way Marco did it. Janna had remade the entire project on her own. The look on her face showed she worked deep into the night on it. They presented their project and got the "A" Marco wanted, not speaking a word to each other about it.

That day after school, Janna had gone home and face-planted on her bed for a much-needed nap. She woke hours later and her mother told her the boy she had been doing homework with left her a present. There was a well-wrapped red party bag on the kitchen counter. Janna looked in and found a batch of snickerdoodle cookies. Something about the taste of those cookies made tears fall from her eyes.

Now, five years later, their relationship has evolved and led to them passionately kissing. Janna was straddling Marco, refusing to break their love lock. He could barely keep up with her. She was kissing rather aggressively. Not that Marco disliked it, it was just so jarring.

Janna was so soft. The way her hands caressed Marco's torso and face gave him shivers. Janna felt his hands travel up her back and down to her butt many times. It made her so excited and feel short of breath. She wanted to take her clothes off so Marco could touch more of her.

"Hey.." Marco broke their kiss as he felt something on Janna's butt. It was in the back pocket of her skirt. "What's that?"

"My knife." Janna answered softly.

"You have a taser and a knife?" Marco chuckled.

"Hell, yeah.." She says with a smirk. They look at each other with lustful smiles. Janna sat up on Marco's crotch and looked down at him with pleasing eyes. They both felt like they were almost intoxicated. It was hard to think straight. All they wanted was each other. Janna grabbed Marco's hands and moved them up to her chest. She made him massage her breasts, as she has longed for it. Marco was stunned at Janna's demand but he followed her lead and mimicked her motions. "Ah.."

"..!..." Marco just heard Janna moan. He just made Janna moan! As he kept massaging her, he could feel her hips moving. She was grinding on his crotch. Marco was really aroused so she must be able to feel his bulge. Janna opened her eyes and looked into his. The look of them, the face she was making, the sporadic way she was breathing, made Marco want her more and more. Janna grabbed his hands again and halted both their movements.

"Let's go upstairs.." She says with a sultry voice, dismounting Marco and guiding him by his hand. His mind began to race. What was going to happen upstairs? What were they going to do up there that they couldn't do down here? Did Janna really want to go further? Marco didn't have any protection! He wasn't ready! Then why can't he stop following her? They were basically rushing upstairs. Their hormones had taken full control. Marco watched her pull him from his fingers, still trying to process what was about to happen.

"..." Marco looked at his hand that Janna pulled and saw something on his palm. A deep black spot was covering a large portion of it. It looked similar to the way his arm did when he got attacked by the monster last night. "St—.. Stop!" His desperate command shocked Janna and caused her to halt strenuously.

"What?! What's wrong?!" She looked back at him and saw him staring at his hand. She saw it too. The hand she held was becoming infected by that same darkness that nearly killed him before. Marco pulled it away from her, fearing that it might hurt her. He began to feel strange. He didn't know why but a demanding paranoia flooded his thoughts. He could feel the cold hand of fear travel up his back. "Marco.. Hey, come on, say something.." Janna was noticeably distraught at his demeanor but Marco could only say one thing to her.

"We have to find Star."
