While she was driving home she got a text message from an official from small town Idaho saying they had a date for the teardown of the old foster home. They were inviting all the girls who had lived there to come in case it could bring them all closure. She didn't look at the text message till she had pulled into the driveway and had turn her car off.
She took a deep breath and texted her dad the news saying she was going to go and thought it would be good for Rachel too.
Aaron got the message and texted back. 'Okay. We will talk to Rachel about it and see if she wants to go. I will go with you girls.'
Lorelai had already gone inside where she got a response and she said that she was good with him coming too.
She called and made another appointment with her therapist as she had walked out without doing so because she was angry about the situation. She knew she needed another appointment before she went back to her hometown.
After that she sat down with a journal that she had been keeping and started to write. She wrote for about an hour before her stomach started to growl. She looked at the time and realized she had lost track of time. She got herself lunch and than found a way to fill her time till her sister got home from school.
Rachel came in the front door.
Lorelai looked up from the book she was reading. "Hey."
"Hey. How was your day?" Rachel asked
"It was okay. Yours?" Lorelai asked
"Meh." Rachel responded
"That good huh? What happened?" Lorelai asked her younger sister
"Nothing. I have homework." Rachel said heading to her bedroom.
Lorelai had to force herself not to get up and follow. She knew that pushing her would only make her less likely to tell her anything, she just needed to give her a chance to come to her when she was ready.
Aaron finished up his work around 5. He headed out telling the rest of the team to head home for the night. He went home to the smell of garlic. Someone was cooking. "Hello." He called out.
"I'm in the kitchen." Lorelai called out.
Aaron went to the kitchen and saw her mashing some potatoes. "Smells good." He said
"Roast chicken, garlic mashed potatoes and carrots." She told him
"That's fancy for a Tuesday night." He said
Lorelai shrugged. "Needed to do something."
"Its appreciated. And looks great. Thank you. Where is Rachel?" He asked
"Her room. She said she had homework when she got home. She's been in there since." Lorelai told him
He raised an eyebrow. "Must be a lot of homework."
"I think something might have happened at school today. I didn't want to push her to talk so I've left her alone. I did bring her a snack at one point. I don't know if she ate it." Lorelai told him
Aaron nodded. "Okay."
"Dinner will be ready in ten minutes." Lorelai told him.
Aaron went and changed and told Rachel dinner was ready and saw the empty plate on her desk. The two came to the kitchen.
Lorelai had set the table and was just cutting into the chicken. The three ate dinner. As they were finishing Aaron looked at Rachel.
"Lorelai and I both got texts today from an official in Idaho. They are tearing down the foster home in a couple weeks. Lorelai is going. Would you like to come as well. Would it help you?" He asked.
Rachel looked up. "Yes. I want to go."
Aaron nodded. "I will be going too. The team has also been informed and they want to come to show their support." He told both girls
Lorelai smiled and nodded. Rachel got up and started to clear the table.
"Rachel. How was school today?" Aaron asked
"It was fine." Rachel said
Lorelai took a breath. "So not just meh than?"
Rachel shot her a look.
"Nope. Don't give her that look. Your sister is just looking out for you." Aaron said. "Do I need to call your teacher, or will you tell me?"
"I'm not in any trouble or anything. Just had an argument with someone." Rachel said. "I don't want to talk about it." She finished
Aaron nodded. "Alright but if you change your mind." He said
"If I do. I will come find you." Rachel said.
Aaron and Rachel cleaned up from dinner. Lorelai went back to her book she was reading earlier. But she couldn't really focus her mind was on what was happening in a couple weeks. She knew it was what she needed. Didn't mean that it was going to be easy.
