A few weeks had passed since their last case. They had been on a few cases, but they were more of what they dealt with on a regular basis. They had all been solved within a few days. There was no denying they were good at what they did. Hotch had come back to work before their most recent case, their team was back together. But there was not a chance that anyone who knew the team before wouldn't notice that there were changes. They were all changed. But they were still doing their jobs just as well as before, so the changes were basically ignored.
It was a normal morning in the squad room. They were all at their desks or in their offices. They were all sipping their morning coffee and typing on their computers. They could see JJ up in Hotch's office obviously a new case had come in they were just waiting to see where they would be going and what the case was.
JJ, Hotch & Rossi came down from their offices.
"We have two cases that are urgently needing our services." Hotch stated. He handed Morgan a case file. "JJ, Davies & Rossi will be going with Morgan JJ will inform you of the case. The rest of you with me." He told them. He had to split up the team to get both cases solved.
Morgan took the three agents and they headed to the first jet. JJ informed them that this case. Three people had been murdered. The only thing connecting them was a note left of the body saying more is coming.
"How were they murdered?" Rossi asked
"Every victim was murdered differently. First one stabbed in the heart, second one shot in the head, third one strangled in their sleep." JJ said
"The only thing connecting them is the note?" Morgan asked
"Yes. It is a computer typed note. There were no fingerprints on them." JJ told them
"Could it be a group?" Davies asked
"Its possible of course but we really don't know much. The police in Florida are stuck which is why we have been called in." JJ said
The team finished discussing the case while their jet took them to Florida.
Meanwhile the other half of the team headed to Texas. They too had a case of murders. There cases were more obviously connected. All the victims knew each other they lived in the same community.
Both teams worked their cases. The team in Texas solved their case first. It was a very open and shut case. The unsub had left a lot of clues that quickly brought the team to him, and they were able to get a confession. When they were done in Texas, they all headed to Florida.
The case in Florida was not as easy. They had been there two days and six more people had been murdered. None of them seemed to know each other. All murdered in different ways, but all left with the same note toying with law enforcement.
Lorelai was sitting in the conference room looking over everything again. Morgan, JJ & Rossi were all out at the crime scene or talking to victim's families. Hotch, Reid & Prentiss came into the police station and were sent to the conference room.
Lorelai looked up when they came in. She had been told they would be coming as they had finished their case and they needed the extra help here in Florida.
"Hi." She spoke
They all greeted Lorelai before getting right to work.
"Let us know what you know." Hotch told her
Lorelai filled them in on the case. They knew the basics, but she told them what they had figured out since being there.
"We have nine victims. The first three were over a three-day period before we were called in. Since we have been here, we have had six more in just two nights. Based on the different methods of murder we believe we are dealing with a group. At least three. We have stabbings, gun shots and strangling's. Two of the murders happened with in minutes of each other." Lorelai continued giving them all the information she had.
The rest of the team listened. Hotch texted Morgan and asked him where they were needed. He wasn't going to take over leadership. Morgan had proven time and again that he could lead the team just as well as he could.
Morgan got the text and told Hotch were they needed more help. Hotch told the other two agents where they should head to help. They quickly went before he looked at Lorelai.
"You, okay?" He asked. He could see she looked very overwhelmed.
She smiled a bit. "Yes. I am. Just a lot of stuff to go over." She told him.
"Do you need help?" He asked
"No. I am okay." She said quickly.
Hotch nodded a bit. "Okay. If you change your mind just let someone know." He told her
Lorelai nodded. Truth was maybe she could use help, but she knew that they needed everyone else in the field. She couldn't be out in the field so she would take on the work here at the station.
Hotch went out to join the rest at the most recent crime scene.
The next forty-eight hours was a blur. Thankfully there were no more bodies discovered but some new evidence was discovered during the autopsy. Some DNA was found not belonging to the victim. It was run through the system the closest match was found belonging to someone who was in prison and had been for years. Obviously meaning it was a familial match to a brother however the man in jail had seventeen brothers and when they went to talk to them, they all lawyered up. The family didn't seem to have connections to any of the victims. They all seemed to fit at least parts of the profile they had worked up meaning they had no way of knowing which of them were involved.
They had finished talking to all the victim's families and finished at the crime scene. They were waiting for a warrant to get DNA from all the brothers while also looking into the backgrounds off all of them to see if any of them seemed to fit the profile more than the other.
"Do we think that more than one of them are involved?" JJ asked
"Possibly." Morgan said
"Only way to know for sure is to find out whose DNA it is and interrogate." Hotch told the team
Lorelai was quiet. She was relooking through the files.
"Agent Davies. Is there something you see that makes you keep looking?" Rossi asked
"I just feel like there is something we are missing." She spoke.
"Like what?" Rossi asked
"I don't know that's the problem." She spoke
At this point the team were all looking up at her.
"I think the only way to get all the answers is to find our unsubs and get them to talk." Morgan said
Lorelai nodded a bit but kept looking though the files.
The team all looked at each other and could tell that they were all concerned. Most of the left the conference room leaving Morgan and her alone.
"Agent Davies. Stop." He spoke
Lorelai looked up at him. "What do you mean?"
"How many times have you looked though those files?" He asked
"Um. A few." She spoke
"I don't think you are going to find anything new. We just have to wait for more evidence when we get the warrant." He told her
Lorelai nodded. "I guess your right." She said softly
Morgan could see she felt defeated. "When was the last time you took a break? Ate something?" He asked
"Well. Um." She spoke
Morgan nodded. "Why don't you go get some air. Go get some food. That's an order." He spoke
Lorelai chuckled softly. "An order huh?" she said
"Yes. Because I know you. I know you won't do it unless its an order." He told her
Lorelai nodded she knew he was right. She got up and went outside. The police station was next to a strip mall and there was a pizza place in there, so she went and ordered a couple pizzas for the team before heading back to the station.
Everyone grabbed a couple slices before getting back to work. Before they finished the warrants had come in and the suspects were all called to come in with their lawyers.
Everyone from the team Lorelai included when to talk to some of the suspects and get their DNA swabs. After there were all collected, they were sent to the lab for testing and the interrogations started. They didn't get much from the suspects as their lawyers wouldn't let them say much so in the end they just waited for the results.
When they finally got them, they found out which of the brothers it was. Morgan looked at Lorelai.
"Your up." He spoke
Lorelai was surprised. She had only really led one interrogation before, and she knew it had only been because the team knew she needed that closure but that was not the situation here.
"You are I are going to go get answers." He told her. "And you will lead." He told her.
"Okay." She spoke. "If, you're sure." She added.
The two of them went. Morgan knew she had questions and needed to get the answers herself. He also knew very soon she would be eighteen and back out in the field and she would need as much experience talking to suspects before that happened. He also knew their suspect was very close in age to Lorelai at just eighteen himself so maybe he would be more likely to break with someone his own age.
Lorelai looked though the file they had on this guy to remind herself which of the brothers he was. He was the youngest at just eighteen his name was Sean Wolfe. She closed the file and took a breath before walking into the interrogation room with Morgan behind her.
"Damn." She spoke. "Your brothers must be pissed." She told their suspect
He looked up at her. "Who are you?" Sean asked
"Agent Davies. And you know Agent Morgan." She told him
"Right? You look like your twelve." The lawyer said
Morgan smirked. "I assure you she is not twelve and she is most definitely an agent"
Lorelai shook her head. "What do I do that makes people think I am twelve? Maybe you can explain?" She said talking to the lawyer. She had decided to see if she could catch the suspect off guard by keeping things casual.
"Its not what you do. Its what you look like." The lawyer told her.
"I don't think I look twelve." She looked up at Morgan. "Do I look twelve?" she asked
Morgan shook his head and smirked. "Nope. Definitely older than twelve."
"Well since we have cleared that up how about we get down to why were here." She said sitting down. "We found DNA on one of the victims. And its yours." He told the young suspect. "How are your brothers going to feel that you are the reason you guys get caught." She spoke
"What do my brothers have to do with this?" Sean asked before the lawyer reminded him to not say anything.
"Well. We know that you didn't commit all these murders on your own. More than one happened at the same time. So, we know you are working with others. And I would put money on the others are at least some of your brothers. Maybe all of them even" she said
"And how are they going to feel that you are the one who made the mistake. I think maybe they will try and get you to take the blame for all the murders. Throw you under the bus as the expression says." She continued when she didn't get a response.
"My client encounters a lot of people. How do we know the DNA isn't from accidently touching her arm while helping her at his job?" The lawyer asked
"Wasn't on her arm." Lorelai told the lawyer.
"Her shoulder? Her back?" The lawyer asked
"Nope. Her cheek. His saliva." Lorelai told him.
"What kind of deal are we looking at?" The lawyer asked
"Life in prison. If he gives up all his accomplices. Or the death penalty if he doesn't." Agent Davies said. It had already been discussed and that was the only deal that was on the table.
"I need to discuss this with my client." The lawyer told them.
Lorelai and Morgan left the room and let them talk.
They went to the observation room where the rest of the team was. The sound from interrogation had been turned off to give the lawyer and their criminal discuss privately.
The team discussed some things for awhile before it seemed that the two were done discussing their options before Agents Davies and Morgan headed back into interrogation.
"My client is willing to give up his accomplices as long as he does not end up in the same prison as them." The lawyer told them
Lorelai thought for just a moment. "I'll see what I can do. But I make no promises."
"Either we are assured that will be the case or he says nothing." The lawyer told her.
"Fine. Death penalty it is." She told them getting up.
"If I give up the names and put in the same prison it would end the same way anyways." Sean told her.
Lorelai looked up at Morgan she wasn't experienced enough to know what do to next.
Morgan nodded to her.
"Fine. But you will tell us everything. You leave anything out. And I will ensure you end up getting the death penalty." Agent Davies told him before sitting back down with a pen and note pad to take his statement.
Sean started to speak. Telling them about all the murders. There were apparently a lot of bodies that they hadn't found. He told them which brothers were involved and it turned out it was two others. The oldest two who had convinced their baby brother to start helping when he turned eighteen. He wasn't sure how long they had been doing it for, but it had been years.
Once the names had been given the others on the team went to arrest and interrogate the other brother.
Lorelai spent the next few hours making sure he told her and Morgan everything. She made him repeat his story several times to see if he would slip up and add anything else, but his story stayed pretty much the same the whole time. Lorelai stared at him for a while to see if he would break and tell her anything else, but he didn't so Lorelai figured he had told her everything. When they were done a couple officers came in and took him to a holding cell while waiting to go in front of the judge.
Lorelai went and got herself some coffee in the conference room of the station.
Morgan sat down and started on paperwork. Lorelai got him some coffee as well before sitting down to start on her paperwork as well.
"You did well." He told her.
"Thanks." She told him. "I think I still have a lot to learn though."
He shrugged. "We all can learn to be better at things. You don't have a lot of experience. In time you will get better and feel more relaxed in that setting but you will only get better with time and practice." He told her.
Lorelai nodded.
Eventually the rest of the team joined them in paperwork to finish up before heading home. On the plane home Lorelai was so deep in thought that she didn't even hear the conversation the others were having. She got nudged softly when she hadn't responded to a question, and it brought her attention to them.
"Hrm?" She asked
"What do you think?" Prentiss asked her
"What do I think about?" Lorelai asked
"About couples having large families and making their kids become second parents to their younger sibling?" Emily asked. Clearing talking about the family that they had just arrested several members of.
"Well. Considering I basically was that teenager raising younger kids. I think my opinion would be bias." She told them.
"Well. Would you do that if you choose to have kids in the future?" JJ asked
"No. I wouldn't have more kids than I could handle on my own." Lorelai told them.
The other women nodded with that statement and changed the subject.
Lorelai went back to her own thoughts till they landed back home.
They all went home after Hotch told them they should be at the office at the regular time the next day.
