CHAPTER II
"WHAT THE HELL KLAUS!"
Caroline's shriek was heard all over the compound.
"I'll assume that Niklaus found Miss Forbes last night?" Elijah asked Kol and wiped his mouth with his handkerchief. They're in the dining area, enjoying their breakfast. "Yep, I saw him carrying her body to the room across his. I'll bet that he snapped her neck." Kol quipped.
"Damn. Who's that girl that's arguing with Klaus? She's fierce." Marcel announced his arrival and looked upstairs.
Kol grinned at him, "That would be our lovely Forbes."
"Never heard a girl argue with Klaus without backing down." Marcel whistled, "Such bravery."
"There are many qualities you can admire from Miss Forbes, Marcellus." Elijah said and stood up, "Especially when it comes to Niklaus"
Kol chuckled, "Now that she's here. Man, this place will be full of surprises."
"What's our agenda today, 'Lijah?" Kol asked as he finished his breakfast. Elijah looked at his brother's appearance and handed him a handkerchief, "Clean yourself up, Kol." Kol rolled his eyes and grabbed the offered handkerchief, "A little blood won't hurt you, brother."
Elijah ignored his comment and fixed his tie, "We have to wait for Niklaus to know our agenda for today." Both brothers looked upstairs.
"Their argument will take the whole day!" Kol complained.
Elijah shrugged and indicated that they don't have a choice. "We must wait, Kol."
Suddenly in vamp speed, someone passed them followed by another then a loud crash was heard in the living room. Everyone turned to look. Caroline was trapped on the wall between Klaus' arms.
"Will you listen to me?!" Klaus brawled.
Caroline struggled to get herself free. "No, I will not! I want to get out of here!"
"You can't." Klaus raged. "How many times do I have to tell you that there's a war going on."
"Well, I'm not involved in it!" Caroline replied fiercely and removed his hands. "This war has nothing to do with me!"
Klaus grabbed Caroline's arms, "The war revolves around witches and vampires. And if you notice, you're a vampire sweetheart. Meaning they're already after you whether you're involve or not!"
Caroline kicked his shin which took Klaus by surprise and released her, "I'd like to see them try. I will suck the blood out of their bodies in an instant." She grinned in victory and showed her fangs.
Klaus growled in pain, "Such bravery, love. But it is not in your beliefs to kill."
"And in case you haven't noticed, I don't care about my beliefs!" Caroline sassed.
Klaus inhaled sharply. He glared daggers at Caroline, "Don't make me compel you, Caroline."
Caroline scoffed, "What's stopping you anyway? You could have compelled me the moment I woke up!"
Klaus sighed and stood straight, "Stop being stubborn, Caroline. I will not let you leave my city." Klaus grabbed her, "Not like this!"
Caroline faced him head on, "Watch me." She pushed him away with her force and vamped towards the door but Klaus blocked her path. She threw a punch while he stopped her attack. She punched, kicked, and pushed while he just blocked all her attacks in vamp speed all over the room. Caroline groaned in frustration while Klaus smirked, "You okay, love?"
Caroline pinned him on the wall but Klaus seized her down so she can't vamp away, "Let me leave!"
"I'm afraid I can't, love." Klaus murmured to her ear teasingly. Caroline glared and headbutt him. Again, it took Klaus by surprise and released her. Caroline took his momentary distraction and vamped towards the door but she was suddenly grabbed by two heavy vampires and her path was blocked.
Klaus rubbed his head since he also hit the wall after the headbutt.
"You okay, brother?" Kol snickered. Klaus glared at him, "Shut up!"
Klaus motioned to his subjects to come near while Caroline struggled in their grasp. Klaus looked at his subjects' eyes and compelled, "You didn't see nor hear anything earlier (Kol and Elijah smirked at that.). All you need to do is to block the door and to not let this lady get out of the house. In any way possible." The vampires nodded and released Caroline after the compulsion.
"Seriously?!"
Caroline shrieked at Klaus.
Klaus smirked at her evilly, "I'm the alpha, love. When I say you can not leave, you can't." Caroline stomped her feet and huffed loudly. Klaus snickered at her childish behavior and looked around, "Elijah, brother. You need to come with me. We have to go somewhere." Elijah nodded and greeted, "Miss Forbes."
Caroline faked a smile in response and glared at Klaus.
"Where are you going? How come I am not invited?" Kol whined.
"Kol, Marcel. Stay here. Make sure that our lovely guest will never leave this house." Klaus commanded.
"But you already compelled your minions for that!" Kol argued.
"I will not be held captive!" Caroline also declared.
"You don't have a choice, love" Klaus smirked.
They glared at each other when finally, Caroline huffed. "Fine then." She smirked and approached Kol.
"Hi, you're Kol Mikaelson, right? We haven't been formally introduced the last time we met at Mystic Falls. I'm Caroline." Caroline introduced and smiled at him seductively. Kol's eyes sparkled when he saw a chance to rile up his older brother. He took Caroline's hand and placed a kiss on top of it "A pleasure to meet you, darling."
Caroline giggled, "I love your accent."
Klaus stiffened at the scene unfolding in front of him. He growled at Kol who responded him with a naughty smile "Niklaus we have to leave. We have matters to attend to." Elijah reminded him.
"Go on. I will stay here. I'll enjoy myself with your brother's company. I'll try to get to know him." Caroline said and winked at Klaus. Kol chuckled, "Oh, you will love me, darling"
Klaus huffed and glared at Kol. "You better be on your best behavior Kol or else..."
"I know, I know. You'll dagger me. Same old threats, Nik."
Klaus growled, "You better do well. Let's go, Elijah. Marcel, you better keep an eye on them." He took one last glance at Caroline then they left.
"FINALLY!" Caroline exclaimed as she raised both of her arms.
"You look happy, love. I don't think Nik will be pleased with your reaction." Kol commented.
"He thinks he can control every being on this planet!" Caroline scoffed, "I'm not going to be one of them."
"Darling, my brother is the most powerful supernatural being in the world." Kol reminded her.
Caroline rolled her eyes, "I'm not scared of him."
"Oh I know sweetheart." Kol replied as he went closer to Caroline and looked at her in the eye. "But just to be sure that the dagger will not be in my heart anytime soon," Kol's eyes dilated "You can not leave this place not until Nik arrives."
"I can not leave this place..." Caroline's eyes hazed and repeated.
"Now that's good!" Kol clapped his hands.
Caroline woke up from her reverie. "Really? Compulsion? ugh!"
Kol smiled at her naughtily, "Well, I'm not Nik darling. I can compel whenever I like."
Caroline huffed "Arrogance. Great. Must be a family trait." She sat down on the sofa. She looked around the place. "Well, at least this is a great house to be trapped on."
Kol snorted, "What do you expect from Mikaelsons, love? We're royalty."
Caroline rolled her eyes then she noticed Marcel standing in the corner, "Who are you?"
Marcel smiled at her.
"His name is Marcel." Kol piped in.
"I was not asking you Kol." Caroline snapped.
Kol shrugged, "I can answer whenever I want."
Caroline approached Marcel and smiled at her seductively, "Hi I'm Caroline." She introduced herself. Marcel smiled at her haughtily "Yeah, I heard. You're quite famous in this family." Caroline bit her lip and looked at Marcel. "I hope they're not telling you anything bad about me." She touched Marcel's arm.
"Oh no, they didn't. Your name was just mentioned a couple of times." Marcel replied as he gave into Caroline's advances and held her waist. "How about we'll get to know each other then?" Caroline flirted.
Kol snorted, "He's Klaus adoptive son, darling."
She blinked and asked, "He's what?" She looked at Marcel and let him go.
"It's true." Marcel agreed. Caroline made a face and returned to the sofa.
"Is he one of his conquests' son or something?" Caroline asked, disgustedly.
"Is that jealousy I hear?" Kol teased.
"No, that would imply emotions so I don't care. No humanity, remember?" Caroline responded while Kol snickered.
"Whatever." Caroline said and stood up. "I'll just roam around here since there's nothing fun to do."
Kol clutched his heart, "Ouch. Are you saying I'm not fun to be with, darling?"
Caroline rolled her eyes, "As long as you continue to listen to your brother's pathetic orders, you're no fun to be with." Caroline leaned down to Kol seductively, "Are you willing to face your brother's wrath for me?"
Kol shrugged indifferently, "Roam around sweet Caroline. You're stuck here until my brother returns."
"KOL, I'M HUNGRY!"
Caroline announced as she entered the living room once again. Marcel and Kol looked at her.
"And I care because...?" Kol trailed off. Caroline rolled her eyes and stomped her feet at his response.
Marcel chuckled, "There's blood in the fridge."
"I want blood that's fresh from the vein." Caroline said. Kol bemused, "Caroline Forbes, never thought I'd see the day that you will be drinking from the vein."
"Get over it. Just get me some hot human." Caroline demanded.
"Why should I? Get one yourself." Kol responded coolly.
"I would but in case you have forgotten, I can't go out in this damn house because of your stupid compulsion!" Caroline snapped.
"Alright! Geez, you sound like my bloody brother!" Kol said. Caroline scoffed. Kol nodded at Marcel, relaying a command. Marcel left.
Caroline took a seat in front of Kol and raised an eyebrow.
"What?" Kol also raised an eyebrow.
"How come you know something about me? I don't remember interacting with you at Mystic Falls." Caroline pointed out.
Kol grinned, "Well, we did see each other at the Mikaelson Ball."
"Oh right. The ball where Damon took you down." Caroline smirked.
Kol's smile faltered, "Just so you know, it would've been the other way around if I wasn't taken by surprise."
Caroline snickered. "Where did your brothers run off to, anyway?" She changed the subject.
"To where the witches are, probably." Kol answered.
"I thought there's a war going on between the vampires and witches?"
"There is but you know my brother. Always the impatient one. I guess he got tired of waiting for the witches to attack."
Caroline made a face. Kol found her expression amusing. "You do know that my brother is a psychopath, right?" Kol stated. Caroline rolled her eyes, "Of course and I also do know how much of a creepy stalker he is too." Kol chuckled.
"Here they are."
Marcel announced as he brought three humans, "They're all tourists."
"Oh thank you!" Caroline beamed and flashed towards the male one.
Kol grinned at her and tilted his head. He challenged her to feed on the human. Caroline rolled her eyes at him and showed her vampire face, "I was not lying about feeding on the vein." And to prove her point, she fed on the humans while Kol chuckled and followed her example as well as Marcel.
When Caroline's human was almost drained of blood, she let go. She bit her wrist and fed the human her blood. She looked around and saw Kol and Marcel still feeding, "Seriously?" She grabbed the two other humans from their clutches and fed them her blood.
"What the bloody hell?!" Kol cursed. He was furious for being stopped and Marcel was also surprised but chose to stay quiet
"Just because you want to suck their blood doesn't mean you have to kill them." Caroline scolded. She looked at the three humans and checked if their wounds were already healed. She compelled each one of them to leave and forget everything that happened.
"Really, darling?" Kol huffed. "For someone who has no humanity, you still bother to feed and compel?"
"Yes" Caroline snapped. Kol rolled his eyes.
"They're beings too Kol, like us." Caroline stated nonchalantly.
Kol looked at her in disbelief, "The whole point of flipping your humanity switch is that you don't care about these things and how you do things." Kol emphasized and pointed where the tourists were a second ago, "Also, they're food!"
"At a certain point, they are but most importantly they are humans so that means somebody is bound to search for them at some point in time. If we kill them we have to drop their corpse somewhere in the woods which I'm not in the mood for that or we could throw their bodies in a dumpster but then everyone's always been found in a dumpster and since they were last seen with Marcel, he's going to be questioned by the police and since he's connected with us, we might also be questioned."
"They're just tourists. Why do you care?" Kol stressed out. "Besides, we're in Big Easy. Supernaturals are everywhere."
"I don't. I just don't like the hassle." Caroline crossed her arms.
Marcel was impressed by Caroline's rant and asked, "So you don't want to kill them because it will be inconvenient?"
"Marcel, I shut off my humanity. I didn't turn into an idiot. The last thing I want to do is to attract attention from people and give them a reason to ruin my fun." Caroline pointed out.
Kol understood and awed with her logic but he was still annoyed of her for ruining his meal. He decided to rile her up, "Are you certain that your switch is off?" Kol asked sarcastically, "Because the way you're behaving does not look like humanity less to me."
"Her humanity's off, alright." Another voice trickled in the room.
They all turned around and saw the newly arrived.
"Rebekah." Caroline muttered.
"Little sister! Where have you been all night?" Kol asked teasingly. "Is this a walk of shame, perhaps?"
Rebekah threw her bag at Kol, "You wish. I had matters to attend to last night." Marcel raised an eyebrow at that. Rebekah ignored him and turned to Caroline.
"So, you turned off your humanity." Rebekah stated.
"Isn't that obvious?" Caroline retorted.
"I'm starting to doubt that, darling." Kol teased.
"Well, seeing that you still feed on the vein, that tells something." Rebekah did a once over look at her, "Your switch's off, alright but you still have some control within you. Must be because you're such a control freak."
Caroline scoffed at Rebekah's attempt to annoy her, "Trying hard much?"
Rebekah crossed her arms, "Let's have a chat, shall we?"
Caroline shrugged.
"Privately." Rebekah added and glared at Kol and Marcel.
"We got here first, sister. Why don't the two of you find another place to chat." Kol countered.
"Kol! Would you please have some manners?" Rebekah scolded. Kol huffed and stood up.
"Do not let her out of your sight. Nik will dagger you if anything happens to her." Kol warned.
"Like I don't know about that already." Rebekah uttered.
"What do you want to talk about?" Caroline narrowed her eyes as soon as they were left alone.
"What are you doing here?" Rebekah asked. Suspicion was present in her eyes.
"Hold up! I didn't want to be here in the first place. I lost track of time and location while I was enjoying my road trip." Caroline defended.
"Who was the bitch you mentioned last night?"
"Wait. You were there last night?! You were eavesdropping?"
Rebekah shrugged "I was following you when Nik decided to show up."
"And you didn't leave us alone?"
Rebekah ignored her question and asked again, "What happened Caroline? Why did you leave Mystic Falls?"
Caroline scoffed "So, are we like friends now?"
"Stop trying to be a mean girl, Caroline. You and I both know it's just a façade." Rebekah went closer and held her chin, "So, will you tell me what the bloody hell happened to you or I'll force it out on you?"
Caroline pushed her hand away from her and snapped, "I just got bored and decided to leave Mystic Falls. It was just a small pony town. I got tired of it."
"Bored? In Mystic Falls?" Rebekah flabbergasted. "That place is prone to supernatural disasters and you just said that you got bored in there?" Rebekah looked at her like she was out of her mind.
Caroline shrugged and muttered, "Well, the current supernatural problem that they have right now is a doppelganger-vampire with no humanity. So nah, not my cup of tea."
"Elena."
"The one and only."
"Again? She turned it off?"
"Yes, she found her problem that having to chose who between the two brothers so hard that she turned it off. I wasn't even aware that she was confused. Again. Probably can't handle not having the two brothers fighting over her. Honestly, I don't see the logic of flipping it off just because that, could you?"
"I agree with that one." Rebekah nodded, "But you're her friend, why are you not trying to help her?"
"Why bother? I have problems on my own and besides everyone else is trying to help her."
"What happened after you turned off your humanity? Where were they?"
"I don't know. I turned it off then left town."
"Well, are they trying to search for you right now?"
"If Elena has still no humanity then I doubt it but it's not like I want them to. I like being like this."
"What kind of friends are they?!"
Caroline tutted. "Oh Rebekah, you seem to forget that in Mystic Falls, Elena's the first priority." Caroline spread her arms "Like always, the list never changes!"
Rebekah looked at her sympathetically. Caroline rolled her eyes, "Oh please, save me from your sympathy. I'm used to that list anyway." Rebekah tapped Caroline's shoulder, "For the record, I like you better than sweet innocent little Elena."
Caroline tsked and smiled a little, "You just want to be my friend." Rebekah returned a tiny smile too.
Klaus and Elijah arrived home and saw Kol and Marcel huddled up outside the living area. Elijah threw Marcel a questioning look and Marcel responded by pointing at Kol then to his ear. The two Originals nodded and focused on their vamp hearing. Both newly arrived raised an eyebrow when they heard their little sister's voice but continued to listen.
"What kind of friends does she have?" Kol asked.
"Well, you've met the people in Mystic Falls Kol." Elijah replied.
"I knew there was a reason why I hated them." Kol mumbled.
Klaus raised an eyebrow at his little brother, "They did try to kill you using the Gilbert hunter."
"But I outsmarted and escaped from their trap." Kol retorted.
"You almost fell into their trap until I swooped in and saved you." Elijah reminded. Kol scowled.
"Man, it sounds like you have many great adventures in Mystic Falls." Marcel commented as he listened to them.
Kol huffed, "That's what family does anyway. They'll always save each other." Klaus just smirked at his brother's childish antics. Kol noticed his smirk and added, "But Niklaus was not smart enough. He did found himself trap in a boundary spell." Klaus glared and decided to enter the living room.
"Awww, Isn't this sweet? Two lovely girls bonding together." Klaus snickered. Rebekah rolled her eyes, "What do you want, Nik?"
"We have few things to discuss before we proceed to our night party later." Klaus mentioned.
"There's a party?" Caroline perked up.
"Yes sweetheart and before you go and prepare, we have things to talk about." Klaus stated firmly.
Caroline crossed her arms, "Don't you dare tell me that I can't attend to this party!"
Klaus sighed, "Just take a seat, Caroline!"
Caroline glared at him.
Everyone settled themselves in the living room while Klaus remained standing.
"So there's a party at our courtyard tonight hosted by yours truly." Klaus started, "Now, I want you all to be on your best behavior."
"We should be the ones telling you that, Nik. You're always up to something when there's a party." Rebekah quipped.
"Can I talk without interruptions?!" Klaus glared at his sister. "We all know that this is an exclusive vampire party but even though they are our kind that does not mean we have to let our guards down or else there will be consequences!"
"What Niklaus is trying to say is not to tell anyone who our lovely Miss Forbes is." Elijah elaborated.
"She's a new face, Elijah. Someone is bound to ask who she is." Marcel reacted.
"We'll just tell them that she's a new vampire. She was tourist and transformed by..." Kol pointed at himself. "You know that everyone thinks that I'm reckless and impulsive so they won't question my actions."
"That could actually work, Kol. I never thought someone as dumb as you can actually think." Rebekah stated. Kol growled at her.
"ENOUGH!" Klaus chastised and turned to Kol. "That could work."
"Of course it would. It's my idea after all." Kol boasted.
Caroline stood up, "Wow, gee thanks guys for asking my opinion in this matter." Caroline looked at them, "By the way, I don't need your protection. I can take care of myself!" She said sassily.
"We're not in Mystic Falls, love. This is not the appropriate time for you to throw tantrums." Klaus warned.
Caroline scoffed, "Okay, throwing tantrums is not 'my' thing." Caroline pointed at Klaus, "That's 'your' thing."
Klaus' face hardened while his siblings stifled their snorts. Caroline smirked at them, "Anyway, I want to make deal."
"Sorry sweetheart but we don't have time to make deals." Klaus declined.
Caroline ignored his statement and turned to the others, "In return for my good behavior this evening, I want a year where I don't have to feel pain or grief or remorse. You're not going to lock me up in a cell and dry me up and you're not definitely going to try and trigger some latent emotions hoping for me to snap my humanity back on but I doubt you're going to do that. Knowing your stance about emotions. So, I'm more edging to the fact that you're not going to lock me up in a dirty cell and dry me up."
"So all you want is for us to leave you alone and you promise you'll be on your best behavior?" Elijah inquired.
"That's all I want. Oh wait, I also want to get out of here but I don't think he'll 'allow' me to do that." Caroline said while doing the quotations gesture.
"You're not in the position to demand something from us sweetheart." Klaus retorted.
Caroline stepped closer to Klaus. "A year with no humanity, Klaus. Make sure you'll give me that."
"I'm not making any promises." Klaus declared stoically. They stared at each other for a while then Caroline flipped her hair towards him and walked away.
"You better not draw any attention to yourself later, Caroline!" Klaus growled. "I'm not your puppet." Caroline sang.
Klaus glared at everyone left in the room. He wanted to redirect his frustrations from Caroline but instead he exhaled angrily and walked out. The three siblings shared hidden smirks when they saw how Klaus tried to control his temper.
"So, Caroline will be at the party, right?" Marcel confirmed because he got confused in the middle of the conversation.
The party was awesome. The music was loud and the vampires enjoyed themselves by being intoxicated and consuming the tourists they snatched. Caroline was a bit tipsy and kept on talking to some random guys. Others already asked Marcel for her identity because she's a new face. Marcel answered using Kol's story. Klaus stood just a couple of tables away from Caroline. He eyed her movements intently and growled every time a vampire dares to talk to her and flirt. He could see that Caroline enjoyed the party. She danced and laughed with the weaklings around them. Even though he does not approve on how she flirted right in front of him, he didn't dare stop her and snapped the others' neck. He doesn't want to spoil her fun. All he could do was watch over her and drown himself to liquors.
"Look Bekah, our dear brother is grumpy." Kol teased.
"I am sure it has something to do with the blonde dancing on the dance floor right now." Rebekah joined in.
"Go away, you two." Klaus snarled.
"Where's the fun in that, Nik?" Kol snickered.
"We want to enjoy the opportunity to torment you, dear brother." Rebekah added.
"I will dagger the both of you!" Klaus threatened.
"Daggers again? Find another threats Nik. It's getting old." Kol shrugged.
"Just admit that you're irritated that she paid no attention to you." Rebekah smirked.
Klaus growled at them and showed his fangs but the two remained unaffected and just snickered at their brother's behavior.
"Niklaus, control yourself. We're at a party." Elijah scolded as he joined the three. "Kol, Rebekah. Stop teasing your brother. You both know how moody he gets." Kol and Rebekah scoffed.
"Oh good. Elijah you're here. Remind these two again why they should be afraid of me and stop their nonsense teasing." Klaus said and turned to watch where he last saw Caroline. Klaus' eyes widened, "Where is she?!" He growled at Kol and Rebekah for distracting him earlier.
"Calm yourself Niklaus. Miss Forbes is with Marcel and his friends at the bar counter." Elijah informed as he received the offered drink from Rebekah. Klaus immediately looked at the bar counter and saw Caroline talked closely to the bartender. Klaus snarled.
Kol grinned, "Oh right. Bekah, did you know that Caroline flirted with Marcel earlier?"
"Really? Caroline must've fun flirting with him. Marcel's really good at..." Rebekah snickered while Klaus glared at them.
"Kol, do you smell that?" Rebekah changed the subject.
"I don't know what you're talking about sister. I only smell the scent of alcohol." Kol showed his glass.
"I smell jealousy brother. Somewhere near us." Rebekah tilted her head to Klaus and Kol chuckled.
"Oh shut up the two of you!" Klaus drawled. He glared at them darkly. "I told her not to draw any attention!" Klaus muttered as he moved his glare to Caroline.
"She didn't, brother. She just tend to stand out naturally." Elijah commented and took a glance at the mentioned vampire, "Miss Forbes' beauty is something you want to keep looking at."
"Look at how she attracts the men, Bekah. Aren't you jealous?" Kol teased. Rebekah scoffed, "She can all have them."
"Shut up or I'll tear your organs out." Klaus said and downed his drink. He left and walked towards where Caroline danced.
Kol chuckled. "That's what he also said to me when I talked to him about how I want to taste Caroline in Mystic Falls. I did not know he was actually serious about her."
Rebekah threw him a disgusted look while Elijah looked at him in question.
"Oh don't look at me like that sister. I would have also gone after her if Nik did not have dibs on her already."
