CHAPTER III
"You're up early, Nik." Rebekah commented as she and her other siblings entered the dining room one by one.
Klaus already sat at the head of the table. He ignored her greeting as he continued to get lost in his own thoughts. Caroline's been with them for few days now. Every day, she and Klaus battled for the reason of not letting her leave the city. His siblings didn't bother to help and just stayed out of the conflict. He's convinced that they did it to entertain themselves. Of course, he won every single time he and Caroline clashed. It resulted to Caroline having her revenge by destroying their poor furniture in the compound including his favorite Versailles armchair. After that incident, he commanded a witch to seal his studio for safe keeping (definitely caused a lot of laughter from his siblings) and decided not to replace their ruined furniture just yet.
To pacify his lovely humanity less vampire, he agreed to have her organize an exclusive mini gathering every night with only a handful vampires and tourists while she busied herself bartending and making margaritas for everyone. She even invented her own special drink mixed with blood. Kol and Rebekah enjoyed her gatherings and apparently on her side whenever Klaus tried to end it early. Elijah joined the first time to observe but later on opted to stay out of it which leave Klaus the only one in guard duty because his irresponsible siblings always end up highly intoxicated together with Caroline. Every night, he took care of his drunk stubborn lady. She flirted and he responded to her from time to time but used every ounce of his self control whenever she touched and seduced him especially before she fell asleep.
Klaus did consider to give her a year with no humanity because even without it, she was still in control of herself. She's doing really well even his siblings agreed. She still drink from the vein but she refrained to kill. She even stopped some of his vampires from draining the tourists dry whenever they caught her eye. For inconvenience, that's what she says whenever we raised our eyebrows at her actions. It amused us to see how practical she is despite the flip though she doesn't hesitate to compel the tourists to do the selfish little things she wants, threaten and snapped his vampires' neck whenever they pissed her off or she just feel like it. Honestly, Klaus wanted to explore more of this side of her (Who wouldn't? It was interesting to watch her relish the gifts of vampirism yet her goodness slip out effortlessly even with no humanity.). He also thought that this is actually good for her and indulge her to let her blow off some steam but due to the current situation of the city and what happened last night... It's not wise for him to let her continue being like this.
FLASHBACK
It was another night for Klaus to take care of his intoxicated vampire. He left his sibling passed out in the courtyard while he assisted his vampire back to her room. He could actually just order his minions to do it but there's no way in hell will he let them touch her even a strand of her hair.
Caroline flirted and caressed his face as he dragged her towards the bed. She pulled him closer her and they laid down on the bed together. Caroline giggled, "Why are you not doing anything? I thought you fancy me?"
Klaus sat up and laid her properly, "I do but.."
"Afraid you might be taking advantage of me?" Caroline cut off and whispered seductively, "Don't be. I'm all yours."
Klaus breathed heavily and let Caroline straddle on him, "Come on Klaus. I know you want me to." She placed her hand above his heart, "See, your heart's racing madly. Am I making you nervous?" She giggled and showered Klaus feather light kisses on his face. Klaus pushed her away a little, "As much as I enjoy your kisses sweetheart, you need to sleep." Klaus' eyes started to dilate when Caroline covered his eyes and reacted harshly, "Don't you dare compel me!"
Klaus let Caroline's hand remain on his face as he sighed in defeat. Caroline grabbed her bathrobe tie laying on the side table and removed her hand from his face. "Caroline," Klaus said exasperatedly. Caroline grinned and showed him the tie, "How about I blindfold you instead?" She whispered suggestively. "Relax, Klaus." She whispered alluringly and circled the tie around his neck to tease him. She played with the ends while she seduced him. Klaus looked at her with hooded eyes.
Caroline took the chance to swiftly cross her hands to snap Klaus' neck but he was faster. He stopped her and removed the tie from her hands. She was shocked while he smirked then he pinned her down on the bed and forced her to look at him in the eye, "Sleep Caroline. You'll wake up tomorrow morning." Caroline stopped struggling and slowly closed her eyes. Klaus released her and heaved a breath. He laid her down properly again and stroked her hair away from her face.
END OF FLASHBACK
"Did you even sleep at all?" Kol teased as he grabbed the wrist of their readied food. He brought Klaus back from his reverie.
"I suggest you two to shut up. I am not in the mood to entertain your nonsense behavior." Klaus hissed.
Elijah decided to interrupt their upcoming banter, "What is our agenda today, Niklaus?"
"Today is all about retrieving Caroline's humanity." Klaus declared seriously.
Everyone was startled. Klaus kept on surprising them when it comes to the blonde vampire. He even dares to set a day for strategies aside just to focus on Caroline. Kol and Rebekah did wonder why it took a while and Elijah informed them that they slowly eliminated the hidden group of witches around the city while the two were tasked on guard duty. Elijah thinks this is Niklaus' way of securing that there will be no unexpected attacks while Caroline's in the vicinity.
"That's very peculiar coming from you, Niklaus." Elijah said in astonishment.
"You're really turning into a sap, Nik." Rebekah bewildered.
"Our dear brother," Kol sniggered. "I've never really thought I would see this day."
Klaus, irked by his siblings reactions, grumbled "Suppress that astound expressions on your faces. I need you to focus to the serious matters at hand."
"Of course, Niklaus. We'll help you turn Miss Forbes' humanity back on." Elijah reassured him.
"If you ask me, I don't think it's off anyway. She still cares." Kol shrugged.
"She still feeds on the vein, Kol. Knowing her, she'd rather goes with her bunny diet than feed on a human directly." Rebekah retorted as she took a sip of her food.
"She can still control her urges. She showed some ruthless acts but her light is still present despite having no humanity." Klaus said proudly.
Elijah was curious. He did notice these qualities from her these past few days and can't remember encountering one just the same. "It's rare, I believe."
"Only Caroline if you ask me. I haven't encounter one that is similar all my life." Kol inserted and Elijah nodded along his lines.
"Sweet Caroline keeps her halo even with no humanity." Kol wiggled his eyebrows in merriment.
"How about we focus on the question on how to flip Caroline's humanity back on." Klaus retorted.
"We need to know why she flipped it off in the first place." Elijah informed.
"Then there's going to be a bloody million reasons why!" Kol said. "It could be about her friends, family, love, pain, heartbreak or just the lack of human blood!" Kol went on.
"We might consider her friends in Mystic Falls. She told Rebekah about them before." Elijah calculated.
"That bloody doppelganger causing unnecessary dramas . . . " Klaus cursed and continued ranting on how stupid her friends were for being too focused on Elena and taking Caroline for granted.
"I think I might've an answer for Caroline's reason but I'm not sure." Rebekah finally spoke.
Everyone turned to look at her. Klaus looked at her in incredulity, "And you're telling us this now?!"
"You didn't ask." Rebekah defended.
"Then by all means, tell us!" Klaus demanded and the other two looked at her expectantly.
Rebekah inhaled sharply.
FLASHBACK
New Orleans
After she eavesdropped on Nik and Caroline, Rebekah decided to get some answers. She called Matt Donovan. The only one from Mystic gang that she still in contact with.
"Hello?"
"Can you please tell me what the bloody hell is Caroline doing here in New Orleans?"
"Wait. Caroline is in New Orleans?"
"I just told you! Now tell me, what's her reason?"
"I don't know, Bekah. I just know that she planned on a solo road trip."
"I just saw her talking to Nik."
"Klaus? Bekah, I need to tell you that Caroline has no humanity right now."
"Like I don't know about that already!"
"Tell me the reason why she switched it off?"
"It's kind of complicated."
"Tell me when I get there."
Mystic Falls
Matt and Rebekah met at the boundary of Mystic Falls.
"Hey." Matt greeted softly.
"Hi." Rebekah responded.
"How are you?"
"Fine." Rebekah smiled, "But let's get to the main reason why I'm here, what happened Matt?"
Matt sighed, "I don't know, really. I don't know why she turned it off. I didn't expect it. Well, I had a feeling but..." Matt breathed loudly. "As you already know, Sheriff Forbes got sick with a human disease. Not anything supernatural but just an ordinary human disease."
"Yes I know. You called to tell me about that. That's why Nik compelled the best doctors to go and cure Caroline's mother." Matt gave Rebekah a questioning look.
"Never mind. Continue." Rebekah realized her mistake and waved her hand off.
"The doctors tried their best to heal Care's mom but the disease was found a bit too late. It already spread all over the body but then Caroline thought about using vampire blood to heal her."
"Oh no, she did not!" Rebekah exclaimed in worry. For the all the years she walked on Earth. Not once did she hear a positive result from drinking a vampire blood to cure a human disease. All of it ended up in tragedy.
Matt exhaled heavily, "Yes. She did. I stopped her at first saying that it was too risky so she set a mission on herself to find a patient that has a similar type of cancer. She did and she fed him her blood. It was good at first, the patient became active and was able to move like he wasn't sick at all." Matt smiled a little when he remembered Caroline's hopeful smile after their experiment then frowned when he recalled the events after.
Rebekah noticed his frown and whispered, "What happened after?"
Matt shook his head to bring himself back to the present. He smiled sadly, "I'm sorry. I really don't know how... The mind visions you said before... Is it possible for me to show you my memories instead of telling you about it? I don't think I can.." Matt rambled.
Rebekah looked at him in surprise and smiled ruefully, "It's okay. I can do that. Let me take your hand." Rebekah comforted and grabbed his hand slowly. Matt tried to control his incoming tears and held Rebekah's hand tightly. Rebekah squeezed his hand, "It's okay. Just close your eyes and let your memories flow." Matt and Rebekah closed their eyes.
Matt accompanied Caroline while she told her mother about her experiment and fed her her blood. He comforted Caroline after the cancer dude barged in and blamed Caroline for his heightened cancer-vampire situation and begged her to kill him. He was there when Caroline cried and told her mother what happened. Sheriff Forbes comforted her daughter and told her it was okay and her death was inevitable.
Matt called Tyler when he accompanied Caroline and her mother at the hospital because of the vampire blood problem. Tyler joined them in his dispirited self due to the current situation of his witch girlfriend. He shared about the merge of Gemini twins while Matt tried to stop Caroline from blaming herself with her mother situation which Damon implied while he visited Liz before he left to deal with Elena again. Suddenly, Matt came up the idea of using Kai to siphon the magic in Liz as well as to solve Tyler's problem. He told Tyler about his plan while he left Caroline in the dark just in case the plan won't work. He doesn't want to get her hopes up.
Matt consoled Caroline as Tyler acted on the plan which he was successful. He dragged a slightly unconscious/sedative Kai Parker to the hospital. Kai willingly abide with their request in return to have a magic of his own for a while. He siphoned all the magic and disappeared. He left Liz in a heart attack status while Matt and Caroline stood still in panic and watched the doctors sped through them and saved Sheriff Forbes.
Matt gave the mother and daughter their moment until Sheriff Forbes asked for him. Caroline left them alone.
"When I'm gone, Caroline's going to need you. Even if she doesn't know it. She's going to need someone to help her move on with her life. Someone who can just make her smile. Promise me you're going to do that, Matt." Liz grabbed his hand.
"She's my friend. I promise I will be there for Caroline, Sheriff. Always." Matt held her hand tightly, "But do you really think that I'm the one she truly needs?" he raised an eyebrow jokingly.
"Oh Matt," Liz chuckled lightly. "Well, I'm sure I won't be able to see him again but I hope you'll pass along my message to him."
Matt looked at her in confusion. Liz smiled, "It'll all makes sense eventually."
"What do you mean?"
"I know at the back of your mind you already have an idea Matt. Maybe lately, you just forgot about it." Liz chuckled and squeezed Matt's hand, "When the time comes and you finally realized it, please be understanding. Trust and be happy for her." her tears slowly coming down from her eyes. Matt wiped it. "I just wish I could watch it unfold in front of my eyes." Liz choked a sob and smiled.
"I'll be there for her no matter what." Matt promised.
"She's lucky to have a friend like you, Matt. Thank you." Liz said and tightened her hold.
Matt assisted Caroline with her surprise for her mother when they received a call from Damon that he brought Liz to the hospital. Caroline sat beside her mother as she cried. Matt stood beside Damon outside of the room.
"How much longer?" Matt asked.
Damon shook his head as they looked at the huddled doctors outside. "She's stable... for now."
Matt closed his eyes as he choked a sob. Damon's phone rang. He watched as Damon answered the call and narrowed his eyes. "I get it! I'll be there, Bon bon!" he cursed and hung up. Damon turned to Matt and hesitated. Matt scoffed, "Let me guess. Elena?"
Damon bit his lip and tapped his shoulder, "I got to go."
Matt clenched his fists in anger as Damon left. Tyler arrived and kept them company for awhile before he also left to stop his girlfriend from haunting Kai, her sociopathic older brother.
"I should've been with her." Caroline spoke for the first time since they arrived.
"You didn't know." Matt comforted.
"But I knew she was sick and I knew it was bad. I'm her daughter." Caroline cried, "I was supposed to give her peace and convinced her that I'll be okay and thanked her for being an amazing mom. God! I don't even remember the last thing I said to her. Damon was the one with her.. I was supposed to be with her on her final moments."
Matt embraced her and hushed her down.
"I didn't get to say goodbye." Caroline murmured. Matt comforted her until he remembered the mind visions that Rebekah mentioned to him in the past, "You still can." Caroline looked at him in question and then he explained.
"Listen Care, I'm not really sure if it works but just try." Matt encouraged as he stood behind Caroline. Caroline exhaled deeply, grabbed her mother's hand, and closed her eyes. Matt stood still and watched her. He also eyed the doctors outside of the room from time to time. After a while, Caroline turned to him and sobbed. "She's gone." The doctors ran inside and tried to revived the Sheriff while he embraced the crying Caroline.
Rebekah opened her eyes in anger, "Where were the others?"
"Trying to get Elena to turn on her humanity." Matt gritted his teeth and sighed sadly, "That's why I called you at that time. I needed to let someone know about Sheriff Forbes' death since everyone wasn't picking up my calls."
Rebekah nodded in understanding.
Matt stared at the empty space ahead and continued, "I helped Caroline organized the funeral while the others just dropped by from time to time to check in. At the funeral, everyone was there except Elena and Tyler. Tyler was too drunk because he broke up with his girlfriend so I didn't allow him inside. And during the eulogy, Damon suddenly left in the middle of the speech as well as the others." Matt heaved a disappointed sigh, "They left because Elena caused a commotion at the Mystic Grill. Where the after funeral should've been held."
"After the funeral, I drove her home and asked her if she's going to be alright. She nodded and just wanted to be alone. I gave her space and left but something bugged me. She kept saying that she will be fine after that day and even promised her mother that before the casket closed. So, I went back to her house. I saw some bodies lying on the ground and I thought it was Elena's doing. When I checked they were just unconscious or dazed and I realized it might be Caroline's. I checked her house but she was not there anymore. I called everyone and Bonnie told me they'll deal with Elena first then Caroline." Matt shook his head in dismayed, "So, I looked for Caroline alone."
"I found her here with no humanity. I tried to convince her to flip it back on but it was no use. She only asked about the others' whereabouts. She just laughed and told me she was leaving. I tried to stop her but she told me not to find her. She reassured me that she's going to be fine and I watched her go." Matt muttered, "Just like that. I couldn't even make her stay."
"So you didn't try to find her at all? And the others didn't bother to find her?" Rebekah questioned.
"The others did what she said but I, I tried to find her. I tried to find some news about new dead bodies or animal attacks but I couldn't find her..." Matt answered.
"I doubt you'll find one since she still bothered to snatch, eat, and erase even at her current state." Rebekah stated.
Matt's eyes widened, "Really?"
"I'm not one hundred percent sure but I don't think she killed anyone." Rebekah replied.
Matt sighed in relief. "I was glad when you called that she was in New Orleans, Bekah. Means that she is still alive and didn't encounter any trouble that might cause her her death."
"She didn't have any intention to go to New Orleans, Matt. She talked about some bitch leading her there. Do you happen to know this bitch?" Rebekah inquired.
Matt shook his head. "I have no idea."
"So, how's Elena?"
"Still have no humanity."
"And the others?"
"Still focusing on Elena."
Rebekah huffed. "Thank you Matt for telling me this." She smiled and turned back to her car.
"Are you going to bring her back here?"
"I don't know Matt. I know that she and I aren't really in good terms but still I'll try to help her and try my best to keep her safe while she's there. I do have an impression though, that she wants to get out of the city as soon as possible."
Matt approached her. "Here." He gave her a letter. "That's for Caroline. Sheriff Forbes mailed it to her dorm. Just in case you'll try to bring her humanity back."
Rebekah gripped the letter with uncertainty and nodded at him. "I'll be in touch."
END OF FLASHBACK
"So you went and met up with the quarterback. Are you sure that the only thing you did was talk?" Kol teased. Rebekah smacked his head, "Shut up, Kol." Kol continued to tease her.
"We did forget to consider Sheriff Forbes' death." Elijah said thoughtfully. "She must've turned it off to avoid the sorrow, Nik."
They turned to Klaus. His posture was rigid and his expression hardened. He looked like he was ready to attack someone. "Her Mystic friends are foolish."
"Got that one right, Nik." Kol said as he raised his glass.
"What are you going to do, Nik?" Rebekah asked.
"Do you still have the letter?" Klaus asked.
Rebekah vamped away and back. She placed the letter on the table. Everyone eyed on it carefully until Klaus stood up and grabbed the letter, "Since her so called friends are too focused on Elena and neglected her, we will be the ones to step up and do their job to bring back Caroline."
Everyone looked at each other warily then agreed at his statement. They started to formulate a plan to bring back Caroline's humanity.
"Marcel, is your little witch done with the spell?" Klaus asked when he entered the courtyard.
"She'll be done soon." Marcel answered and observed his face. Klaus clenched his jaw and wore a guarded expression. He could tell that the hybrid have a lot of things in his mind.
"I'm done!" Davina announced as she walked down the stairs. "My boundary spell won't allow her to leave the room." She checked her watch, "She'll wake up any minute now."
"It's time to have some fun!" Kol grinned and rubbed his hands together. Klaus glowered at him.
Rebekah smacked Kol and warned, "Idiot, you don't want Nik to dagger you because of your behavior!" She was the first one to head upstairs. Elijah followed her and thanked Davina when he passed her. Klaus just nodded his head and walked behind his brother. Kol winked at Davina playfully and walked upstairs. Marcel was about to follow when Kol turned around and stopped him, "I don't think your presence is necessary Marcel."
"What do you mean?" Marcel was taken aback.
Kol gave him a stony look, "Just back off and guard the place while we're busy."
Marcel wanted to protest when Klaus' voice chimed in, "Why don't you see your little witch out and fetch a cooler full of blood bags, Marcellus. Make sure it's AB negative or B negative."
Marcel furrowed his eyebrows in confusion while Kol tilted his head to tell them they should be on their way. Davina observed the Originals' faces until Kol closed the door of the room. They were definitely in a battle mode she surmised.
"What's going on?" Davina asked curiously. Earlier, Kol and Elijah knocked on her doorstep and seek for her assistance. They brought here and told her to cast a temporary sleeping spell on the new blonde vampire. It was obvious that it was against the vampire's will and Davina can't do anything but follow their orders especially when Klaus was breathing behind her neck. Then they instructed her to do a boundary spell in the room where they placed the vampire.
Davina looked at Marcel when he didn't answer her. She noticed that he was trying to listen what's happening upstairs. Davina shook her head, "It's no use. Elijah taught me something about herbs earlier. He mentioned about soundproof or privacy matter. Something like that."
Marcel cursed and gave up. He's really curious about their actions today. When he arrived earlier, he saw them busy planning. He thought it was for strategies and was about to join when they shunned him away just like what Kol did. They tasked him on guard duty as he watched them from afar. He saw them carefully weighed their options and be on the same page. The sight was entirely new to him.
"Who is she?" Davina asked as they walked away.
"She's an acquaintance of the Originals, D." Marcel answered. "But really, I have no idea just who the hell she is."
As if on cue, Caroline stirred and woke up when the Originals gathered in the room. Caroline looked at them in fury and vamped towards the door but found herself stopped. She pounded on the invisible wall fiercely. Kol chuckled, "Face it darling. You're trap."
"What are you guys trying to do to me?! I was trapped in this house then now, you're trapping me in a room. What's next? You're going to trap me in a closet?!" Caroline outraged.
Rebekah rolled her eyes at Caroline's dramatics whereas Kol chuckled again in response, "Easy, we just want to talk to you."
"Can't we talk in the living room like normal people do? There's no need to trap someone!" Caroline scowled.
"We apologize for our actions Miss Forbes but this is an exclusive matter and we don't want anyone to know about this." Elijah reasoned.
Caroline rolled her eyes. "Didn't I make myself clear that I don't want to be locked up in return for my good behavior?"
"Well, you did say that and we acknowledge your good behavior. As you can see sweetheart, you're not locked up in a cell." Klaus sassed. Caroline huffed and crossed her arms. "What are we going to talk about anyway?"
"Your humanity." Rebekah stated. Caroline scoffed, "Are you really going to try and retrieve my humanity?"
"Yes, love. We are going to try." Klaus responded in low tone. Caroline giggled in amusement, "You've got to be kidding me!"
Klaus exhaled hard and stepped closer, "Caroline, you're not like this. You're good and full of light. You were always the positive one." Caroline laughed mockingly at his attempt.
"Darling, I know we didn't really have time to be acquainted at Mystic Falls but I know that Nik was rather taken of you and that definitely says something." Kol quipped.
"You're not helping Kol!" Klaus scowled.
"Brothers! It is not the right time to fight!" Elijah scolded. "Miss Caroline, I know there's a reason why you turned it off but let me be frank and tell you that this does not help you at all. It just prolonged the agony."
"It's true dear, even us, the first vampires never turned off our humanity. Ever." Kol confirmed.
"Why bother flipping it off when you already do things like you have no humanity. There's no difference really." Rebekah shrugged.
"Again, not helping Rebekah!" Klaus glared while Elijah massage his eyebrows.
Caroline rolled her eyes and muttered, "So much for having a year of not feeling anything."
Klaus ignored her statement, "We have something that you might want to have, sweetheart." Klaus said and showed her a letter.
"What's that?" Caroline arched an eyebrow.
"Your mother's letter." Rebekah replied, "I went to see Matt and he gave me this. He told me that you might want to read it."
Everyone saw Caroline stiffened and uncrossed her arms. Klaus took the chance to give her the letter, "Does this look real to you?"
"Her impeccably perfect handwriting? Yup. I remember when she taught me how to write my name in cursive." She looked at the letter intently. The Originals held their breaths and hope that the letter will work.
Caroline looked at them and scorned, "So what? Am I supposed to read this and snap back to sad, pathetic, motherless Caroline?" She pushed the letter towards Klaus, "Burn it."
"I'm sorry?" Elijah reacted.
Caroline ignored him and stared at Klaus, "Did I say stand there and look stupid? No. I said burn it."
Rebekah grabbed the letter from Klaus hastily, "Maybe I should just read it first." She opened the letter while Elijah warned, "I don't think that your mother will be happy if you burn it, Caroline."
"How would I know? She's dead!" Caroline crossed her arms again, "Why do you care?"
"What if eventually you want your humanity back and you'll hate us when you know we burnt it?" Kol stated blankly.
"The letter shows the last words that your mom want to say to you, sweetheart." Klaus reminded.
"Did those words seriously just come out from your mouth? God!" Caroline said in annoyance. She grabbed the letter from Rebekah's hand and vamped her way to the match on the table. She struck the match and lit the letter. She grinned at them, "Burning it now."
The Originals were too surprised to move. They watched as the letter turned into ashes. "There. All gone!" Caroline sang.
"What have you done?!" Rebekah yelled in rage. "That was from your mother, Caroline! Her last words for you! And you just bloody burnt it!"
"So what?! If I read it, will it bring her back? Will she be alive again?!" Caroline fought back.
"Love, she must have wrote it during her final moments and while thinking of you. Her way of saying goodbye to her beautiful daughter." Klaus said.
"Well, it's her loss! Why bother writing it down when she could have just told me! Why are you making an effort for this anyway? Just leave me alone! I want to be like this! I don't want to feel anything!" Caroline's face was distorted in rage.
"Oh look! Anger!" Kol quipped, "It means she wants to feel, right?" Kol turned to his siblings. "I mean anger is a strong emotion."
"No, Kol. It means I'm just pissed. Leave me alone!" Caroline growled. She destroyed a leg of the table and vamped her way to Kol. He was caught off guard as she dove the wood in his stomach. Kol groaned loudly. Klaus also vamped his way to his brother and removed the wood out of him. Caroline smirked and mocked, "You should seriously stop lowering your guard just because you're an Original, darling."
Kol was about to attack her when Klaus stopped him, "Control yourself Kol!"
"Let me retaliate Nik! Even just a one bloody broken bone, I'll be satisfied!" Kol howled.
Caroline snickered in satisfaction because she also made someone pissed. She looked around the room and noticed Elijah stepped a little forward to protect his sister. She hummed and thought of the possible scenarios that would happen in their setup. She's sure that the boundary spell was only for her and it could be gone after a few of hours. She just needs to hold it out and turn deaf to their pitiful attempts.
The worst possible scenario is to infuriate them. Like truly make them angry at her. Caroline is not stupid. She knew that they are stronger and can kill her in an instant if they want to. "They're the Originals' for god sake!" she thought.
Caroline turned to Kol and Klaus and sighed, "Fine. Here, snap my arm in retaliation." She offered her arm to Kol. The rest looked at her in question.
Caroline shrugged. "I know you can kill me right here, right now if I continue to piss you off and I would like to stay alive from this stupid plan of yours, thank you very much." She lectured. "That's why I'm offering you my arm to satisfy your anger."
Kol huffed and backed down, "Forget it. I'll pay you back some other time."
Klaus released and watched his younger brother. He was sure that Kol was dying to hurt Caroline just a second ago. He exchanged looks with Elijah and his brother motioned to him to focus on Caroline for now.
Caroline looked at Kol, "Thank you, I guess?" Kol just scoffed at her in response. She snickered and pointed at the invisible wall, "I'm assuming that that spell will only work for a few hours?"
"Don't sweat it, Caroline. You're trap here until your humanity is back." Rebekah said.
Caroline hummed thoughtfully. She had no other choice but get stuck in a room with this family. "So I'm trapped and forced to listen to whatever bullshit they're going to say? I doubt they can trigger my humanity not unless.." She thought and her eyes flickered to one of them, "Nope. Not going to happen. He won't talk about feelings especially not in front of an audience." she chuckled in thought.
"Isn't this the part when you starve me, bleed me out, and put visions in my mind?" Caroline listed.
Kol perked up at her statement, "Is that how to do it to also retrieve humanity?" He found the list she mentioned fun to do. Maybe he could instill pain to the blonde once or twice for his payback. Elijah shook his head and stepped forward, "We don't intend to desiccate you, Miss Caroline."
"Oh. So, you only planned to talk me to flip my humanity?" Caroline chuckled, "Alright. Give me your best shot." She challenge them because she was confident that they can't trigger her at all. She also noted on how Klaus just blend in and out of the shadows most of the time.
Everyone was irked by her challenge. Despite their sensitiveness when it comes to emotions, they were determined to show her that they can provoke her to flip it. They talked and laid out all their opinions about having humanity to convince the blonde. Caroline was really stubborn and resisted all their attempts to make her feel anything.
Elijah said things that were noble and honorable while Rebekah was still mad at her for burning the letter and warned Caroline that she will regret it. Kol being Kol said things casually but still have some sense in it and Klaus tried to coax Caroline sweetly so that she won't turn away from his attempt.
"Wow, isn't this an interesting sight." A voice chimed in.
Everyone turned their heads. "Katherine", "Katerina"
Katherine smirked at them, "Hello."
Klaus instantly flashed towards her and choked her. "Give me one good reason to not tear your heart right now."
"Niklaus, let Katerina go." Elijah warned. Klaus ignored his brother and continued choking Katherine. "You can deal with Katerina later Nik. We need to focus on Caroline right now."
"I can hold her right now Nik so that she can't escape." Kol suggested. Elijah glared at Kol, "You will not!"
"Come on Elijah, are you still trying to protect Katherine?" Rebekah scoffed. Klaus nodded at Kol and released Katherine who was soon held by Kol. Katherine struggled on his hold, "Let go of me, little Mikaelson."
Kol gripped her arms tighter and showed his vamped face, "Do not test me, Petrova. I'm still a little pissed from earlier."
Caroline flashed in front of Katherine and glowered at her. Katherine simpered, "We meet again, Caroline."
"This is all your fault!" Caroline snarled.
Katherine smiled at her sarcastically.
"After I saved you from a werewolf then you betray me like this?!" Caroline scowled.
"Oh please honey, I'm actually helping you."
"How is this helping me?! You were the one who led me here in the first place!"
"Do you honestly think that having no humanity suits you, Caroline?"
Caroline crossed her arms and gave her a bitchy look.
"So, you were the bitch that Caroline mentioned." Rebekah stated and also crossed her arms.
Katherine hummed, "The one and only."
"Why did you lead her here, Katerina?" Elijah asked and tapped Kol to release her much to his dismay.
"She did actually save me from a werewolf and we went to a bar. I noticed her changes and suggested a bar here, Rousseau's. I was careful enough not to mention New Orleans. I told her to check it out if she wants to continue her barhopping adventure."
"But you did not answer my brother's question, darling." Kol reminded her.
Katherine rolled her eyes. "I just thought that Klaus might want to see her!" She walked towards Klaus but kept a safe distance. "Since you know, you have a 'thing' for her." She smirked while Klaus clenched his jaw.
Katherine saw Klaus' face and felt his inner rage. She quickly diverted the topic. "But luckily, I think I can help you with your situation here."
Rebekah huffed. "Oh I know this game. What do you want in return?"
Katherine shrugged, "I just want to pay back my debt to her. For saving me."
"So? Spit it out! What do you have?" Klaus sneered.
Katherine snickered, "I'm really surprised you haven't thought about it. I mean, you're the only ones who have the ability."
"Just tell me or I'll force it out on you!"
"Niklaus." Elijah warned.
"Just compel her." Katherine casually said and muttered, "Like duh."
"Why have we not thought about it?" Kol asked. His face showed that the problem was already solved. "Okay Bekah, hold Caroline for me. I'll compel her now." Kol's eyes started to dilate.
"ABSOLUTELY NOT!" Klaus refused and hid Caroline behind his back.
Kol's shoulders slumped, "Come on Nik, this will solve the problem."
Klaus glared at his brother, "Do not do it, Kol. It would be unfair for her."
"Since when do you care about fairness Nik?" Kol retorted.
"Niklaus is right. Caroline should turn it on without compulsion." Elijah said. Katherine rolled her eyes, "Elijah, always the honorable one."
"Can we just stop this and release me?" Caroline said in annoyance. She doesn't like where the conversation have gotten. Klaus sighed and turned to Caroline, "Love, you have to cooperate with us." Caroline raised her eyebrow in question. "We do not do this kind of thing. This is new to us. It also gives us discomfort when we talk about emotions." Klaus remarked and held her arms. "But we're trying our best here, sweetheart. Let us in." Klaus uttered softly. Too soft to everyone's surprise. They watched as a tiny bit of Klaus' humanity was shown. Just for this girl. Everyone was enthralled at the scene in front them. No one moved. Afraid that they might ruin the moment.
Klaus stared at her intently and smirked slowly, "I dare you." He use the same tone that he did in the past. Caroline huffed but then there was a tiny part of her lips that went up and that didn't go unnoticed to the Original hybrid.
Elijah noted the silence and decided to step up. "We were sorry to hear about your mother, Caroline. She was a respectable Sheriff in the town. She still accommodated us despite knowing our true nature." He smiled sincerely when Caroline turned to look at him.
Rebekah stepped closer to Caroline, "I knew you were kind of alone during the hard times. Matt told me in his perspective. You were fighting alone and I cannot imagine the struggle you have been through. She was the only living family that you have left. It must have been so hard for you."
Caroline turned to look away from them and closed her eyes. Some emotions ran back to her. She wanted to block them all out.
"But Caroline, turning off your humanity does not help you. It is not the solution. You have to accept and feel the pain. And knowing you, you're strong Caroline. You can get through this. Your humanity was pure, like Nik said, you're full of light." Rebekah continued and giggled a bit, "Even though we had our bitchy moments, you still showed me kindness in your own way during our stay in Mystic Falls. And I can't believe I am saying this but I feel we can be best friends if we wanted to."
The rest smiled at her last statement.
"I have no personal encounter with you dear but I can certainly see the goodness that you had in you despite having no humanity. It sometimes astounds us on how much goodness you actually have. Be proud of having that quality darling." Kol added his own speech because he doesn't want to upped by his siblings. Temporarily forgot his rage he had for her earlier.
Caroline covered her ears and faced them fiercely. They could see the glass of emotions in her eyes. "How can you say that? All of that? You've met me when I was already a vampire! When I was a human, I was this shallow, selfish, neurotic control freak! I was insecure and people don't take me seriously! And then I became a vampire because Katherine decided to make me a freaking messenger! I struggled it alone! When my mom found out, she almost disowned me! I hate this! I hate my life! I hate being me!" She breathed heavily.
"Did you also know that it must have been my stupidity that caused my mother to leave this world early? I fed her my blood for god's sake! Well yes, that case was resolved but I pretty much believe it also worsened her sickness. It likely fastened the pace of those stupid cancer cells and took her away. So bottom-line is I killed her!" Caroline ranted angrily.
"Caroline!" Klaus hissed. "It was not your fault. You did it because you love her and you don't want to lose her. She drank your blood knowing the risks. She hoped it will lessen your pain."
"I killed her Klaus! And it's my fault that she's gone! I didn't even have the chance to say goodbye properly."
"But this is not what she wants you to do after she dies Caroline!"
"How would you know?!"
"Because she told me! Despite accusing and threatening me, she still told me how much you mean to her." Klaus countered in the same tone. He held her face firmly and unintentionally flowed his memories with the Sheriff towards her.
Mystic Falls
When Klaus went down after healing Caroline from Tyler's bite, he met Sheriff Forbes again.
"Why are you really doing this? What do you want?" Liz asked.
"I already told you. I just want your support." Klaus answered while she glared at him.
"Look, your daughter was just a collateral damage. It was my retaliation for Stefan's doing."
"I don't want her to be one again."
"Rest assured, Sheriff. No harm will come at her from now on."
Liz looked doubtful at him.
"You should be proud that your daughter is a beautiful and kind lady."
"I know, she's a precious one."
Klaus nodded, "She's a vampire. She will have the gift of eternal life."
"I know and someday, she'll going to see me die. I just hope it won't hurt her much."
"You're her mother. She will be in pain."
Liz nodded, "But I don't want her to lose herself just because she lost me. I want her to live the gift of her eternal life."
"You do seem too open to the thought that your daughter is a vampire." Klaus arched an eyebrow.
"Trust me, we had our down moments in this one but she taught me how to accept it." Liz shook her head and stifle a chuckle, "And honestly, when she turned. I saw her change and I love the change. She became stronger and confident. She embraced herself. I love her more like that."
"So, if you hurt her like this again. I don't care if you're a hybrid and the most powerful supernatural. I will hunt you down and kill you even if I have to die in exchange." Liz threatened.
Instead of being angry, Klaus was awed by a glimpse mother's love to her daughter. Klaus saw where Caroline inherited her qualities.
The next interaction he had with Sheriff Forbes was Caroline's graduation day. After his moment with Caroline, he drove her home. He stayed outside of her house as he listened to her call with his most disappointing hybrid Tyler. He tuned out later when they started to argue about the fact if he should go back or not. He contemplated whether he made the right choice of letting Tyler come back in Mystic Falls.
Sheriff Forbes just arrived and parked her car. She acknowledged Klaus' presence and said, "I heard you save the kids from the witches earlier. You saved her. Again."
Klaus scratched his eyebrow and chuckled awkwardly. Liz gave him a knowing look, "I should've known that she also sent you an invitation."
Klaus blinked at her statement. Not knowing how to respond to her. Liz realized his silence and changed the topic, "I also heard you gave Damon your blood to cure him from the bite."
"Well, Caroline nagged me about it. Sent me a dozen of voicemails while I was on my way here." Klaus said.
Liz raised an eyebrow, "And you didn't ask for anything in return."
"Damon Salvatore doesn't have any use to me as of the moment." Klaus shrugged.
Liz hummed in response, "Why are you outside? Weren't you invited in already?"
"I don't really want to listen to your daughter's mushy talk with his boyfriend." Klaus answered.
"Is that so?" Liz reacted. "Why didn't you leave?"
Klaus started to get annoyed with her questions, "What's with this interrogation? I thought you would be grateful that I've saved your daughter. Again."
Instead of being scared, Liz chuckled lightly. "Just because."
"Run along now, Sheriff. You should go and celebrate this meaningful day with your lovely daughter."
Liz nodded, "Oh, if you noticed some witches or hybrids headed in our way. Don't hesitate to call. I'm sure we could lend you a hand or something." She once again gave him a knowing look.
Klaus opened his mouth to respond but then closed it again. Liz smiled at him, "Thank you. Thank you for always protecting and saving her."
Klaus was taken aback. Liz continued, "I know I shouldn't be saying this to you. After all, you terrorized this town during your stay. But I couldn't ignore the things you also did for my daughter. So, thank you. You're a good 'friend' to her."
Klaus licked his lips hesitatingly, "And are you okay with that? That your daughter is good friends with the vicious villain in town?"
"My daughter's kind and compassionate. She looks after those who are in need. I raised her to be a good person. So, if she is good friends with you that means that something's there. She sees something in you. It might be hidden deeply but there is definitely something." Liz said sincerely.
"You're a good mom." Klaus commented.
"I hope so." Liz replied and started to head inside the house. Suddenly, she turned to face him again. "And by the way, you might be waiting for a while." She tilted her head towards the house. He didn't miss the knowing glint in her eyes again.
Finally, Klaus showed her a real smile. "I'm a patient man, Sheriff. I can definitely wait for her."
"Wow. Who would've thought that your answer will reassure me?" Liz chuckled, "I can trust you to be there for her in the future, right? Show her how to live her life freely especially when she's a vampire."
Klaus nodded his head, "If she let me."
Liz nodded and entered the house. She was satisfied with his answer.
Both Klaus and Caroline was startled with the visions. Caroline groaned and slapped his hands away from her face.
Klaus recovered and stood firmly, "She wants you to live your life, Caroline and to not be drowned by the pain. She loves you so much and it will not fade even if she is not in this world anymore. Even if you can't see or feel her. She will always love you."
Caroline shrieked, "STOP! No! Don't talk anymore!"
Klaus stepped closer to her and tried to hold her again. "No! Don't you dare come near me!" She said it so fiercely that it made Klaus stopped his actions and left him helpless. "Sweetheart..."
"Don't call me that! Why are you all trying so hard? As far as I remember, we didn't have time to bond at Mystic Falls. We were enemies there! I am your enemy! So why are you helping me?!"
Rebekah groaned, "Why are you so bloody difficult?!"
"I am not! All I just ask was for you guys to release me and leave me alone."
"But we can't, Caroline! We will not leave you like this. No humanity does not suits you!"
"Okay sweetie, time to fess up." Katherine said firmly and approached Caroline. "What really made you flip your humanity?"
Caroline scoffed "Like I'll ever tell you."
Katherine raised an eyebrow, "Look, so you turned off your humanity then what? What have you accomplished? I've been a vampire for decades already but I never turned it off. I've felt pain, frustrations, agony and fear. I've been on the run for years from the very person who is, ironically, trying to help you right now."
Klaus growled at Katherine.
Caroline groaned loudly. "You guys just won't surrender, don't you?"
"Why don't you just tell us what you feel then? The anger that you're feeling right now." Kol challenged. He noticed that anger was consuming Caroline at the moment. Maybe they could use this as a gateway to the other strong emotions.
"You're all hypocrites!" Caroline declared in irritation. She said it like it was the most obvious thing in the world. "You guys talk about my humanity when you all barely have one!"
That made everyone shut up.
"You all kill and torture other people for your own benefit. You slaughter for fun or when others do something bad to you. You lash out on others because of the pain you felt. You ran away from your emotions so why can't I?" She looked at Klaus intently, "And you're a liar."
"You claim to 'fancy' me but then where were you when I was in pain, huh? I know Matt told Rebekah about my mother and what did you do? Did you even bother to comfort me? NO! You didn't even bother to show up at all!" She approached Klaus and smacked his chest. She didn't plan to let her emotions consume her but the more she ranted, the more it pushed her to feel. Tears started to pool in her eyes. "I needed you there! Even though others were not there, I didn't care! You were the only one I seek during those moments!"
"I know I was kind of a bitch in the past and kept on rejecting you but I needed you Klaus! You were the only one who understood me! You were the only one who knows the real me!"
"Even after the funeral, I waited for you. I waited but you did not come! I realized that, maybe, you did not fancy me that much after all. It was so stupid of me to believe you." Caroline broke down and sat on the floor. She cried recklessly and her tears flowed nonstop.
Everyone looked at her with sympathy. The siblings took turns to look at Klaus. They had an idea on what happened to Klaus when she needed him. They knew about Klaus' affection towards the girl if you noticed the subtle hints. They bloody teased him about it when the siblings finally exchanged info of the subtle hints they witnessed. They thought it was one sided. They had no idea that Caroline also felt something for their dear brother. They wouldn't even realized that their brother was the trigger to make her flip if she didn't tell them. Just how much secretive are these two.
"I was alone Klaus and it hurts so much, the pain, the grief, and the loss. I just want to turn it all off."
Rebekah surprisingly embraced Caroline and soothed her. "It's okay, Caroline. It's okay to be hurt."
Elijah tapped Klaus' shoulder. He saw how his brother took a step back. He looked speechless and helpless. The vulnerability flickered in his eyes.
Katherine observed the situation and noticed the Originals' glances towards the hybrid. At first she thought it was nothing but after a couple of minutes, it made her suspicious. "Enough hiding! What is it that you guys are not telling her?" Katherine mentioned and crossed her arms.
Elijah sighed and turned to her, "Katerina..."
"No, Elijah. There is something that you are not telling her. You guys aimed to return her humanity, right? Then she should know!" Katherine fought. "She deserves to know."
Klaus clenched his jaw and remained at his place. He debated whether to tell her everything or nothing at all. He was distracted when he heard Rebekah's plea, "Nik, just be honest."
Caroline continued to cry and oblivious in her surroundings. Katherine was very curious to whatever the original siblings referred to.
"I'll tell her, Nik." Kol challenged.
"You wouldn't dare." Klaus warned.
"Then perhaps you should be the one telling her Niklaus." Elijah confronted.
"SHE DOESN'T NEED TO KNOW" Klaus emphasized.
"She does, Nik! Your actions also triggered her to turn it off." Rebekah pointed out. She was the only who voiced out what everyone thought. Klaus backed down. He didn't know that he was also one of the causes for her humanity switch. He was not aware that she seek for him during those times. He thought her friends were there for her. He did not know she was alone. If only...
Kol grunted in annoyance to his brother's hesitations. He decided to step up, "Darling, Nik did not abandon you when you needed him." Kol started and wiped his lip with his tongue. He realized he doesn't know how to approach the subject gently after that. "There were circumstances that were needed to be dealt with first." Kol said softly and stepped closer to Rebekah and Caroline.
Klaus glared at Kol when he started to talk and approached. Elijah whispered to Klaus, "You should tell her, brother. It might help her to turn it on. It's the right thing to do."
Klaus furrowed his brows and took hesitant steps forward. "There's something you should know..." Caroline looked at him with full of emotions. When Klaus saw that, he cleared his throat.
"I tried to be there for you, love" Klaus started. He was nervous. He looked at his siblings. They nodded and encouraged him to tell her everything. He exhaled loudly and pulled his self together.
FLASHBACK
New Orleans
Klaus drove fast to exit New Orleans.
"Rebekah, make sure that the quarterback informs you when something else happens. Make sure to keep me updated, Bekah."
"I know, Nik. I'll call you when I've got all the information that you needed."
"Good. I'm still at the boundary of the city. Be sure to take care of everything else in there."
"Of course, Nik. Be safe."
"I wi- Bloody hell! Urgh!"
"Nik?! Nik? Niklaus! Are you alright? Answer me!"
Klaus let go of the phone. He felt ringing in his ears and his head hurts. Aneurysm. "Damn these witches!"
"Where do you think you're going, Klaus?" Sophie Devereux said as she entered his line of vision. She heightened her magic as her coven joined her. "We're at war, I never envisioned you as someone who will run away."
Klaus groaned. The pain in his head increased. "You will pay for this" he swore. Sophie smirked at him, "If you can escape from us." she said and magically snapped his neck.
The moment he woke up, he was chained up in an empty chamber in the cemetery. Klaus yelled out of anger.
Caroline.
He was frustrated. "Curse you damn witches!" He yelled. He was on his way to Mystic Falls. He was just informed about Sheriff Forbes' death and then the witches decided to capture him.
"You should be quiet, hybrid! This is a sacred place." Sophie said. Klaus glared at her, "You think you can keep me here forever?!"
"No, I know you'll be able to escape." Sophie answered, "But you see, we don't need to keep you here forever, Klaus. We only need just a few days so that we can carefully plan and take over New Orleans."
"You think you can bring me down?! I am an Original! A Hybrid!" Klaus snarled and showed her his hybrid face. "My siblings will be after you once they know about my captivity or perhaps they're on their way now."
Sophie chuckled, "Of course they'll know but this place is cloaked by one of our powerful elders. They can't find you easily."
Sophie left while Klaus roared in anger.
The Originals siblings rescued him. They used Davina and their mother's grimoire. The instant Klaus was released, he went after Sophie. "You chose a terrible time to capture me, witch. And you have to pay for it!" He growled as he grabbed her heart out from her body. Then he broke her into pieces and burned her. He did it without blinking an eye.
They killed many witches that time. Klaus lashed out at them. The witches backed down and hid away. They were terrified of the hybrid's uncontrollable anger but they still did not surrender.
END OF FLASHBACK
"After the fight, Rebekah told me that perhaps I can still make it to the funeral but we both knew that it was a lie. I couldn't make it." Klaus explained.
"Then why did you not just go there despite knowing you couldn't make it? Katherine asked.
Klaus glared at her, "Because I made a promise to her, Katherine."
Caroline's sobs were heard in the room. Klaus turned his attention to her again. He knelt down in front of her as Rebekah released her.
"I apologize, love. I really did think that everyone was there for you. That you're not alone in those times. That my presence will not matter. And I did promise you that I will never set foot on Mystic Falls ever again. I gave you my word and I planned to keep it."
Klaus stared at her lovingly as he took her hand. Caroline sniffed, "Out of the promises that you made, you broke all the major ones that can lead to destruction but you can't dare break a petty one?! Are you stupid?" Caroline choked out.
Everyone snickered at her statement while Klaus who glared daggers at them.
"She did have a point, brother. You could have just forget your promise and went to her." Kol tried to humor.
"Out of all the promises he chose to keep." Rebekah sighed dramatically, "Our brother is truly a foolish one, Kol."
Caroline cackled at their statement even though her tears still flowed from her eyes.
Elijah smiled a little and turned to her, "Our brother did not ignore you when he heard about mother's sickness, Caroline. He did everything in his power to help you. He went to find and compelled the best doctors to save your mother."
Caroline gasped and looked at Klaus. "Y...you did?"
Klaus nodded and clenched his jaw, "But it was a failure. They could not save your mother."
Fresh batch of tears formed on Caroline's eyes and sobbed uncontrollably, "Thank you." She whispered. Klaus embraced her as she continued to cry. After a few moments, it finally sunk in. Her humanity was back. She gasped and broke out from Klaus' embrace. She panicked and looked around. "Oh my god. What have I done?" She choked and grabbed her hair.
"It's back." Rebekah murmured. "Her humanity's back."
Caroline groaned in pain and breathed heavily. Her body unruly shook as she sobbed. Klaus tried to calm her down, "Sweetheart.."
Caroline turned to him while she quivered, "Klaus.."
"Shhh sweetheart.. It's okay. Just calm down and breathe." Klaus soothed.
"I tried to hurt you! I fed on humans! I even hurt Kol!" Caroline panicked as she pointed at Kol.
"Oh it's nothing, darling. No.." Kol reacted.
Caroline cut him off and paced around the room, "No. No. The letter.." Caroline found the burnt ashes and wailed, "Oh my god! No! The letter.. I ruined everything!" She broke down.
Everyone looked at her with pity. "These were her last words, Klaus." She cried as Klaus approached her, "It's alright, sweetheart."
Caroline shook her head, "No, it's not. I didn't even bother to read it. I'll never know what's inside of it. Ever."
Klaus smirked at her a little, "Come on, love. Have a little faith in me. I still have it here." He revealed another letter. Caroline and Rebekah gasped loudly while everyone else stood still. Klaus smiled at her, "You should know by now that I always take some precautions sweetheart."
Caroline giggled at him and reached out for the letter. The moment she saw her mother's handwriting, she wept and started to read. Her knees felt weak then she started to topple but Klaus caught her in time and enclosed her to him. She bawled her eyes out while Klaus started to smother her hair and whispered comforts.
Everyone in the room just stood and watched them. They watched as Caroline wept everything out and Klaus soothed her by murmuring phrases like "It's alright." "Everything's going to be fine." "You can do this." "You are going to get through this." "I'm here." which is very unusual coming from the evil hybrid.
They saw Klaus looked at them and nodded. His eyes flickered gratefulness for their help. They smiled at him in return. They were happy to witness a part of Klaus' lost humanity. Kol held Rebekah as he noticed her teared up at the scene before them. Elijah stood behind Katherine and tapped her shoulder lightly. He noticed that she was also caught up at the scene. She stared at them without blinking. Like she was imprinting it into her mind. After a while, Kol led Rebekah out of the room while Elijah and Katherine followed. They left the two alone for privacy.
"After all the centuries that I have been with you, this is the only time that I witnessed you show humanity despite having an audience, Niklaus. This woman you're holding right now is very precious. I hope she can influence you and be the light in your terrible darkness." Elijah thought as he looked at the scene one last time before he closed the door.
A/N:
HELLO AGAIN! :)
Some of you might wonder why Katherine appeared in here when she was supposed to be dead. Again, this story is an AU one. Let's just say that after Katherine gave the cure to Elijah, she never returned to Mystic falls and I would like to add that 5x11 the klaroline moment in the woods never happened, okay? The last time that Klaus and Caroline met in the series will be during her graduation. I'll write a scene where they made the same promise in the future chapters.
And I'm sorry that there's too many flashbacks in this chapter. I hope you didn't get confused while reading. Don't forget to review and favorite.:)
