It's winter, it's snowing, and Christmas is in the air. Teddy and Allison enjoy a day off together. Happy, fluffy (at least it's supposed to be) Teddison one-shot.
(I don't know if this one shot makes sense with Grey's timeline, because I think Teddy and Allison were only together for one month, between Teddy's mother's death and Allison's death? But anyway, Grey's timeline doesn't make any sense and nothing's clear. So I'm allowed to write something that doesn't make sense in a timeline that doesn't make sense. Also, the title is a song by JP Saxe.)
kissing in the cold
She was waiting below the tower, the wind and the snow messing with her long blonde hair. She didn't mind, though, because there's nothing in this world that she loves more than snow. She lost her gaze into the milk-colored sky, pearl white clouds extending towards the infinite and small snowflakes falling slowly to cover every surface.
"- You're beautiful when you're watching the snow, Teddy."
She jumped slightly when she heard a voice behind her, and she turned around. She knew exactly who was behind her, but she wasn't expecting Allison to smile so widely, and it caught her breath. Her smile was so bright, so full of light that Teddy couldn't believe it was for her.
"- I'm so glad to spend today with you," she answered while Allison was wrapping her arms around Teddy's waist, under her coat.
"- Me too. I feel like it's been forever since it's been just the two of us," Allison answered her with a soft smile that made Teddy's heart melt a little more, and she leaned in to kiss Allison.
They started walking slowly along the streets, holding hands, with no destination in mind, just to enjoy the company of each other and the particular taste of Christmas in the air.
"- What do you want to do today?" Teddy asked. "Any plans?"
"- No," Allison smiled, "but I know you do. You're such a sucker for Christmas."
Teddy smiled back, knowing that Allison was right.
"- Well, we could go to Central Park. They have Christmas food carts, then we could walk around the park… and they set up an ice skating rink."
"- You know that it's like the perfect cliché?" Teddy's smile disappeared, so Allison quickly continued. "I can't wait to do all of that with you."
"- That's better," Teddy flashed her another smile and intertwined their arms, making Allison smile as well.
They resumed walking, towards Central Park this time. By the time they got there, the snow had intensified, and Teddy was happy like a little child. That's what Allison called her, childish, and that word only brought her back a snowball in the face. The situation quickly escalated into a snowball fight, with them sending snowballs at each other without an ounce of pity. By the time they were done, they were laughing uncontrollably, their hair full of melting snow.
"- Great idea, Teddy," Allison complained. "Now I'm even colder than before."
"- It's your fault," Teddy countered. "You called me childish. That's what you get."
"- I called you a child, so you try to prove me wrong by acting like a child?"
"- Exactly." They both laughed, and Teddy wrapped an arm around Allison's waist when they resumed their walk once more. "We could get something to eat, that'll warm you up. I'll even let you pick."
"- Hot dogs," Allison decided after a few seconds of thinking.
"- Seriously?" Teddy interjected. "There's all the food carts in the world, and you pick the only one that doesn't have the slightest Christmas vibe?"
"- They eat hot dogs all the time in the Christmas movies, and you told me to pick. I pick whatever I want," Allison answered, smiling widely.
Teddy rolled her eyes, but they made their way to the hot dog stand and ordered one each, eating those as they wandered through the park, admiring the trees covered in snow and the lake gleaming under the white sky, and enjoying each other's company in silence.
"- I love you," Allison said, out of the blue, surprising Teddy.
"- I love you too," Teddy answered with a soft smile.
"- I'm saying it because I don't think I say it enough. I love you so much, Teddy, I don't think you realize it sometimes." She leaned in to kiss the blonde woman.
As they broke up the kiss, they heard someone behind them talking. They couldn't hear the whole sentence, but they could perceive the word "girlfriends". The tone wasn't negative, but it was enough to bring a wave of mixed sadness and pain on Teddy's face.
"- Teddy," Allison tried, but she was avoiding her gaze, looking firmly on the other side. "Teddy."
"- It's okay, Allison," Teddy said, closing her eyes for a second. "I know… I know you have Claire, and I know that you're happy with her and that you don't want to lose her. I know it."
"- Don't think like that, please. It makes you look like you don't matter to me, and that couldn't be less accurate. I love you, Teddy, you know it."
"- I know you do. Just…" She didn't finish her sentence, but Allison could clearly imagine the remaining words. Not enough.
"- I love you more," Allison said spontaneously, realizing what she had said only after saying it.
"- What?" Teddy stopped to look at Allison.
"- I love you more than Claire. I didn't… I didn't realized it until I said it, but it's the truth. I love you more, so… I don't want you to think that you're a second choice or anything, and you're right, we should tell Claire about us. Because it's not fair. Neither for her nor for you."
"- Allison…" Teddy was almost crying now. No one had ever told her that they loved her in such a passionate, deep way, and it was more than enough to jolt her world. She gave Allison her brightest smile, trying to put the all the happiness overflowing her heart inside it. She didn't even knew what to answer, but Allison seemed to get her perfectly, like she always did.
"- You don't have to say anything," Allison said, taking both Teddy's hands into hers. "We don't have to talk about it tonight. To be honest, I don't even want to hear about Claire anymore. There's no Claire tonight. There's just…" She let go of Teddy's hands to cup her face. "you and me. Just you and me. Nothing else. Okay?"
"- Okay," Teddy smiled. No Claire. She could do that. She wished it so badly. She didn't wish that something happened to Claire, because she liked her, she just wished that Allison would tell Claire the truth about them, and tonight was a big step. She would keep Allison's confession dearly in her heart, and cherish it like a treasure. "Just you…" She leaned in, reducing the distance between them until it was down to a few inches. "... and me." She could feel Allison's breath on her lips, so close that it was intoxicating.
They learned in at the same time, kissing once more under the thick snow. This kiss was deeper than the previous ones, more charged with feelings, with a heavier meaning. Teddy's left hand was messing with Allison's curls, and her right hand was just laying on Allison's chest. It lasted for an eternity, from Teddy's point of view, at least. She had never felt that emotional for a kiss, or maybe once. The time when she told Allison that she was sorry, but she wasn't, and Allison kissed her for the first time.
When they finally separated from each other, Teddy's eyes were still gleaming with joyous tears, and Allison's smile spoke volumes about what she was feeling. Allison was the first one to move and let go of Teddy, offering her a hand.
"- We still have an ice skating rink to find, right?" she asked.
Teddy tried to carve this scene onto her heart. Allison, her world-changing smile, her eyes glittering and her curls bouncing all around. The snow, flying all around and making the world shine. She wanted to remember it forever, the feeling she had this moment, like her heart was going to explode with all the joy. She never thought love could be that overwhelming. She never imagined she could love someone that much, but she did, she loved Allison.
"- This is such a bad idea, Teddy," Allison told her, but Teddy only shook her head, smiling happily.
"- It's an ice skating rink. What could happen?"
"- Neither one of us have any idea how to do ice skating!"
"- So? Half of the people in there have no idea either, and look! They're all having fun!"
"- We are going to be ridiculous," Allison shook her head, but apparently, nothing could change Teddy's mind.
Not listening anymore, she dragged Allison towards the rink, like a child, happy to go skating, and Allison found that so cute that she gave in and followed Teddy towards the rink.
"- What are we doing now?" Allison asked.
"- Hang on to me, and I'll cling to the wall, and we are trying to skate!" Teddy answered, finally touching the ice as Allison was clinging to her like her life depended on it. "You're way too stressed! It doesn't seem that diff- Whoa!"
They almost slipped the second they were onto the ice, and it took them a few seconds to find a precarious balance.
"- Okay, maybe it's a little harder than I thought," Teddy admitted. "but we're going to have fun, right?"
Like Allison predicted, they fell a few times, but they were laughing more and more each time. At some point, they finally get the hang of it, at least enough to skate without holding the wall all the way. When they stepped down, they were both still laughing.
"- This day was perfect, Allison. Thank you," Teddy said. "What can we do? I don't want it to end…"
"- It was perfect for me too," Allison answered her, before continuing with a mischievous grin. "and now, I'm taking you home. We still have time left in our perfect, and I've been dreaming of getting you in my bed all day."
"- Really?" Teddy's smile was now matching Allison's.
"- Absolutely. I love you, remember?"
Allison gave her another bright, flashing smile, and Teddy answered with one of her own.
Snow wasn't her favorite thing in the world, finally. Because that was Allison.
Apparently, I don't know how to write lighthearted fluff, because it always ends up being deeper and sadder than I wanted it. Also, writing wlw is kinda hell, because I feel like I'm always messing up with the pronouns. Like I use too much "she" or I repeat the names too many times. Also I feel like I'm ooc all the time and that's tiring. Oh, and I didn't run it by my beta because I was too impatient to post it, so I'm sorry if I made any mistakes. But anyway, I hope you enjoyed your reading! Let me know what you thought, I love you for reading that.
