NEW YEARS EVE

Work is close to being over on this Friday afternoon at the accounting firm I've been with for five years. I was finishing up the last bit of financial papers for a very well-respected client of mine, a daiyoukai, by the name of Inu no Taisho. He was a very well-known upscale businessman in all of Japan. He owned a very high-end company that sold very expensive watches and jewelry all over the world. "I think that will be all to complete your documentations, Mr. Toga. Is there anything else that you require for me to take care of for you today?"

"I think that will be all for now, Miss Kimura. I really appreciate all that hard work you have done for me these last few days. I would do it myself, but I have other things to deal with at this time." It's understandable. "If I need your assistance again, which I know I will, I'll surely call you when that time comes."

"And I'll be waiting for your call, Mr. Toga. I hope you have an amazing New Year." Today was New Year's Eve and I had plans to enjoy it with someone special.

"I wish you the same, Miss Kimura," we both stood up and shook hands. "If you don't have plans for this evening, I would love to invite you to celebrate with my family tonight at a high-end restaurant for dinner."

What a generous offer but, "I appreciate the offer, Mr. Toga, but I already have plans to spend it with my boyfriend." Sesshomaru wanted to take me out somewhere special, but he didn't specify where we were going. He just told me to be ready to leave at five tonight. I couldn't wait to spend the evening with him, and I know we'll be having a romantic dinner somewhere I've never been before. The very interesting thing about Sesshomaru is he was the oldest son to my client, but Mr. Toga didn't know that we were dating. Sesshomaru and I have only been dating for two months now and have been keeping it a secret for some time. Though it makes me wonder if he'll finally introduce me to his family tonight.

"You're most welcome, Miss Kimura. I hope you and your boyfriend have a splendid evening together. Happy New Years, and thank you again," he bowed before me.

"Happy New Years to you and your family and you're the most welcome," I bowed in return.

After he left, I only had an hour left of work and I spent that time working on another client's paperwork. As I worked on some forms for another client, Sesshomaru had sent me a text message.

I had a special outfit sent to your apartment and it should be there by the time you get off work. I'll see you in a few hours. The time on my computer reads one-fifty and I have ten more minutes till I can clock out. I have a feeling what he may have sent me, and I couldn't wait to wear the outfit.

Thank you, Sesshomaru. I'm getting ready to clock out here shortly. I'll see you soon. It wouldn't take me long to get ready. All I had to do was shower, do my make-up, and hair. I could get all that done within an hour and a half.

As I waited patiently for the last few minutes to pass, my colleague, and best friend, Kagome, walked over as she was ready to leave herself. "Hey, Rin. Are you excited to celebrate the night with Sesshomaru?"

"Hey, Kagome. Yes, I am! He just sent me a text that he has a gift waiting for me at the apartment." Kagome and I were roommates and shared a large apartment together. But she was soon going to move out and live with her now fiancé, Inuyasha. "Are you excited to spend the evening with Inuyasha?" I know she is. She's been talking about it for weeks.

"Indeed, I am. We're actually having dinner with his parents here shortly. Are you and Sesshomaru joining us? Or do you guys have your own plans?"

"Our own plans I believe. Sesshomaru didn't actually specify where he was taking me this evening, and my client, Mr. Toga, still doesn't know that I'm dating his eldest son." The clock struck two and now was time to clock out. "Ready to head home?"

Kagome smiled brightly, "I am and really? I thought Toga knew you guys were dating?" We took the elevators since we were on the fifth floor.

"It's only been two months and we're not… well I'm ready to tell him, but Sesshomaru isn't. So, I'll respect him for his choices until he's ready to tell his father." I lost my family in a tsunami when I was young and the only family, I ever had was my grandmother who lost her battle with Alzheimer's two years ago. So, I had no family to tell I was in a relationship.

"That's understandable, Rin. Sesshomaru has always been a reserved type that doesn't like his personal private life out in the open." I'm happy she understands. "So what will you be wearing tonight?"

"Sesshomaru actually had an outfit sent to the apartment not long ago. It should be there by the time we arrive. What are you going to wear?" She always loves feedback on outfits to wear when it comes to dates.

"I picked out my top five choices last night and I laid them out on my bed this morning. So, if you don't mind helping me choose?" Of course, I'll give my opinion on which one she should wear tonight.

"Yes! Most definitely, Kagome. So, what do you plan on wearing: a dress, kimono, a pants suit?" She looks amazing in everything.

"A dress! I also can't wait to see what Sesshomaru picked out for you!" Same here! "You know that I will be giving you my feedback, Haha. I'm kidding, I'm kidding. You'll look amazing in the outfit he picked out, Rin."

"Haha, thanks Kagome." I knew she was joking.

"You're welcome, Rin."

We made it to the apartment, and I found Sesshomaru's new personal assistant, with a long black dress cover. The label had the white Dior printed on the plastic. "Miss, Kimura. Your gift from Master Sesshomaru."

"Thank you," I don't know his name yet, but he's a really nice man. With a proper bow at the waist, he left. "Wow!" I held the sealed, mysterious outfit in front of me.

"Sesshomaru, really went out of his way! He must be taking you somewhere really nice, Rin!" Just where would that be?

"He really must be. Just looking at the length, I feel like it could be a slim gown at most." I couldn't stop smiling. "We'll, let's not keep our men waiting."

Kagome and I each had our own personal bathrooms to get ready. I spent about twenty minutes in the shower, washing myself all over, and using a special body wash of amber and lemon. When I felt clean, I dried myself off from head to toe, wrapped a towel around myself, and walked back into my room. I wasn't ready to get dressed as I needed to do my hair and make-up first.

My vanity has everything I needed to finish getting ready for my date with Sesshomaru. First was to do my hair and I know I wanted it to flow down my back. I blow dried it straight and put some loose large curls from the middle to my ends. "Perfect!" I always have a hard time getting them to look right and tonight I managed to on the first try. For my make-up, I just did my usual as if I'm not wearing make-up tones. Which just consisted of neutral colors. "Perfect again!"

When I looked at my phone, I had ten minutes to spare and that would give me plenty of time to finish getting ready. I put on my proper female attire that was skin toned and then made my way over to my closet where my outfit for this evening rested. I gently pulled down the black zipper and the deep navy-blue floor-length gown fell to the floor. "Wow!" I traced my finger along the fabric, and I could tell it was crêpe. It was soft to the touch. I slipped the dress off the hanger to see that the dress had off the shoulder straps and the bodice was heart scoop. I looked down more to see the dress did have a slip, which would make the dress more comfortable to walk in.

A knock came at the door as I was admiring the dress way longer than I should have. "Come in, Kagome." She must be ready for me to give her my feedback on the outfit for tonight.

The door opened, "Hey Rin… Oh, wow! Do you need help?"

I definitely will need help zipping the dress up! "Yes, and thank you." When I turned to look at Kagome, I already found her in a slim black dress that had a long train in the back. "You look so pretty."

"Thank you," she smiled and blushed my way as I unzipped the dress and stepped through the fabric. Kagome helped me bring the dress up and after I slipped my arms through the thin sleeves, she zipped me up. "Sesshomaru made a really good choice in the color." I agree. He knows what goes with my skin tone.

"Sesshomaru did make an excellent choice. Now to choose the shoes."

"Your beige strap heels will go great with your dress!" Kagome suggested and I agree again.

"Thank you, I was actually going to go with them." It would only take a minute to strap them on. I even had the same beige tone clutch purse that matched my heels.

As I strapped each shoe on, the doorbell rang, "I'll get it."

"Thank you, Kagome," I knew it was Sesshomaru. After my heels were tightly strapped on, I walked over to my tall standing mirror and examined myself all over. "Wow," the dress fit like a glove and made every angle of my body stand out. I was admiring myself too much when I felt someone else in the room with me. When I looked in the mirror, I found Sesshomaru in the doorway. He looked so handsome in his expensive Armani suit. I turned around to face him fully, "good evening, Sesshomaru."

"Rin, good evening." He came into my room and cupped my cheek, being ever so careful with my makeup. "You look exquisite this evening." My cheeks heated up within his hand.

"Thank you, Sesshomaru. I have to say you look striking yourself," he really did. He was dressed in a suit that matched the color of my dress, but not in the same material. How did I find such an amazing boyfriend like him? I couldn't help but think of that night we first met…

…Kagome and I clocked out for the evening on a Friday night. "Hey Rin, since it's finally the weekend, why don't we go have a fun night out? We can go to this new nightclub that just opened!" She stood just outside my cubicle.

"A club?" I have never been to one of those before. I shut my computer off, grabbed my bag, and we left for the elevator.

"Yeah! It's the talk of the town and Inuyasha wants all of us to hang out!" Kagome was jumping up and down as we waited for the elevator.

"I don't know. Wouldn't it just be a date for you two?" Since I am newly single it would feel uncomfortable just hanging out with them two.

"Nope, besides you could possibly meet someone to connect with! So, please come out tonight! I promise that we'll all have fun!" I don't know. I usually make a full of myself being around the opposite sex. I get hiccups when I am nervous. "Please!"

Kagome was giving me those puppy dog eyes, and I didn't want to upset her. "Okay! Okay, we can go to the nightclub tonight."

"Yay!" She pulled me into a tight hug, just as the silver doors opened. "Okay, let's get home and change."

When I went through my closet, I had the hardest time trying to decide what outfits I own were club material. I liked to dress modestly and presentably all day, every day. So, the only thing I believe would look decent is a pair of dark skinny jeans, a tank top, and matching cardigan. I knew Kagome would wear one of her special short dancing dresses that ended past her butt.

"Rin, are you ready to go?" Kagome called on the other side of my door.

"Getting dressed now," I was fast at that. "I'm ready."

She opened the door and her mouth dropped to the floor. "Really Rin?"

"What?" I turned to the mirror and examined myself all over. "What's wrong?" I thought I looked cute and not overdressed.

"Please tell me you're not wearing that?" What's wrong with my outfit?

"Yes! Of course." I turned back around to face her. "You know this is my usual style going out."

"But not for a nightclub!" She came to my closet and started to rummage through my clothes. "Rin, you have nothing that's club material!" She pulled me by the wrist, "come with me to my closet."

"Kagome, I don't mind wearing this." It was comfy.

"Haha, you'll never get a guy to notice you in that!" Why would I want a guy to notice me? I don't mind being single at this time. "Besides, I have somebody I want you to meet tonight!"

She didn't! "Are you setting me up on a date tonight?"

"Haha, yep. I can't wait for you to meet him!" I just broke up with my ex-boyfriend two months ago and she's ready for me to be in a relationship again. "This guy is ten times better than Hakudoshi."

"Please don't say his name. You know how I get if he's brought up." I'm glad to be out of that controlling man's life.

"Sorry, but I promise that this demon is much better than him." Another date with a demon? "But enough about that. I'm going to find you a top that you can wear to go with your jeans, including a pair of heels. A plain tank top, a cardigan, and your sneakers won't pass the nightclub vibe."

"Hey, don't diss my ensemble choices." It's my usual non-working day outfit.

"Rin, you need to let loose and express a new style," she let go of my hand and pulled a deep blue sequined shirt out. "This is you!" My eyes bulged at the shirt. It had thin tank sleeves and an exposed cleavage seam straight to the belly button. Kagome is crazy to think I can pull that off! I don't even have the boobs to pull this off. "You'll look cute, and I promise the guy I have you set up with tonight won't be a pervert. Oh! Don't worry about wearing a bra either!"

Okay, now I need to know who it is. "One, who are you setting me up with? Two, does he know about me? Three, I'm not going without a bra!" I don't need to be having a peek-a-boo show and causing a scene of indecent exposure and get my kicked out or arrested.

"You'll find out soon and I promise your breast will not make an appearance during the night. There's breasts cups inside to keep them in place." Great! What if we meet and don't like each other? It would be a waste of a night out for me. "He does know about you!"

I gave her a questionable look, "have I met this said demon?"

"Haha, he's seen a photo of you," that doesn't help or answer my question. "Just change into this and be ready to leave in five minutes." She also handed me the black stiletto heels that I had to wear.

"Fine," let's get this night over with.

We met Inuyasha outside the new club Sakura no Hana. "Geez, what took you two so long?"

"Inuyasha, I said we would be here at eight and it's only eight-ten. So, ten minutes is not going to kill you." Inuyasha was a hanyo and Kagome's fiancé. He was dressed more casually than us in his red button-down shirt and denim jeans.

"Whatever, let's get inside before it gets too crowded." I keep forgetting how impatient he is.

Kagome linked her arm around mine as we headed inside and she whispered, "he'll forget all about that in a few minutes." I was going to say something, but the upbeat house music was too loud for me to hear my own voice. "Inuyasha, is he here?" I thought I heard Kagome ask.

"Sesshomaru, will be here shortly. He's just stopping at his apartment to change his clothes." Sesshomaru? Why does that name sound familiar? "I think we're all going to go have a late dinner after we spend a few hours here."

Inuyasha waved a hand for us to follow him across the massive lit up floor of dancing couples. Where is he leading us now? "Inuyasha, did you rent a booth?"

"Nah, Sesshomaru did. He paid for it a week in advance." We neared a private booth that was roped off. Inuyasha flashed that bouncer a card, "private booth under Hasegawa."

Did he say… that's Inuyasha's last name! So, the guy I was set up with tonight is… is… his older brother! How? Why? How can a man of his stature want to take me basically as his date tonight? I've never met Sesshomaru in person, just heard stories about him. And they weren't good ones. So, why does he want to see me as his date? I don't get it because I am human!

The bouncer looked at the plastic laminated card for a minute and handed it back. "Right this way, Hasegawa party," he allowed us through the private section.

We all thanked him and walked through. At least the music was dimmer in this section, and I could finally hear my own thoughts. I wanted to speak to Kagome privately about who I was set up with and the only place we could speak alone was the restroom. "Kagome, can you come with me?" I pointed in the direction of the bathroom. "I need help fixing my make-up."

"Of course, Rin. Inuyasha, we'll be right back."

"Don't take too long."

"We won't." I led her to the bathroom that was empty. "So, I guess you overheard who your date is?"

"Kagome, why? I thought Sesshomaru hated humans like us?" I've heard so many different stories from so many different people. Mostly at work by my other co-workers.

"Haha, the nerve of people. Rin, ignore what people have told you about him. Sesshomaru is nowhere near what they have said. He's a very genuine demon." I don't know. I still feel like crap from my last relationship.

"I'm going to say this hypothetically. What if he turns out just like Hakudoshi?" He never liked me talking to my friends or hanging out with them. Especially my other guy friends. Kagome was the only exception because we were roommates even before we dated. I had to text him every minute of my day of what I was doing or where I went. Even sending him photos of what I was wearing. I hated that so much. Though I have blocked him, he still finds a way of contacting me. I need to get a restraining order on him.

"Rin," Kagome grabbed me by both shoulders and made me look right at her. "Sesshomaru would never treat you like that. He respects one's boundaries and will not demand anything from you."

She let me go and I sat up against the long vanity, crossing my arms under my sternum. "I don't know, Kagome. I can still hear Hakudoshi's words ringing through my ears."

"Rin, forget what that idiot had said to you. He's a low life, with no job, and lives at home with his parents. You are an independent young lady, smart, hardworking, and absolutely beautiful." Okay, now I'm blushing. "So, are you going to go out there and have fun, or go home, and sleep the night away?"

I loved what Kagome had to say. It's Friday night and it's time that I have the time of my life. "Let's go have a ball!"

"That's my girl!" She pushed me out of the bathroom dorm.

We arrived back at our private table and the demon I was set up with tonight had arrived. He was seated and talking with Inuyasha. I couldn't see his face, just the back of his head. Inuyasha happened to look up and I read his lips, "they're back." He nudged his head forward and Sesshomaru turned back to look at us. Well mostly me, since I'm practically his dinner date. Sesshomaru looked quite handsome in his navy-blue button-down shirt. I could tell the sleeves of his shirt were rolled up to his elbow. He wore thick black glasses, and his long silver hair was pulled back into a thin ponytail.

"Ready?" Kagome whispered into my ear.

"Yes!" But I was still nervous.

When we arrived at our booth, "good evening, Sesshomaru. I would like to introduce you to Rin." She gestured a hand towards me. Oh, crap! I can feel my hiccups building up in my throat. "Rin, this is Sesshomaru."

Say something idiot. "Hi," there was a hiccup coming and I needed to swallow it when that moment came. My hands became fidgety, and I knew I was going to sweat. "Pleasure to meet you, Sesshomaru." I swallowed that hiccup.

"Rin," he said my name smoothly. "It's a pleasure to meet you too."

"We'll leave you two alone," Kagome walked over and pulled Inuyasha away very fast to the dance floor. Why, Kagome? Why are you leaving me alone already?

She disappeared onto the dance floor through the fog of partygoers. Great! "Rin?" Damnit! I forgot he was here.

"Yes?" I turned back to face him and found him standing before me. I had to look up several inches to see his face.

"Would you like something to drink? You look as if you're going to pass out?" Do I really look like I am?

"Uh… water?" I wasn't all that thirsty. "Please."

Sesshomaru pulled on a rope, gestured a hand for me to sit, and sat back down himself. I joined him after a few seconds. What do I say now?

A server appeared before us and ready to serve, "yes? How may I be of service?"

"Two waters. That will be all," Sesshomaru ordered for us.

"It will be my pleasure, sir." He walked back the way he came from.

Now what? "Rin?"

"Yes?" I found him looking at me again.

"How was your day?"

"Oh! Umm… pretty good. I'm an accountant, so I was up to my neck with financial papers." I guess I should ask him the same. "How was your day?" I wonder what kind of work he does.

"About the same, but I'm not an accountant," he explained. "I'm a computer network architect."

"Really? That's interesting." All I know about that career is you have to have great computer skills.

"Yeah, it can be tricky if you don't pay attention to what you are doing."

"That's understandable," I don't know much about computers. My hands were feeling less sweaty, and my hiccups haven't returned. To change the subject, I looked around the large room. "This is my first time going to a nightclub."

"You've never been to one?" He curiously asked.

"No, umm… I never got around much to enjoy this type of stuff. My work has kept me busy." Which was a lie. Hakudoshi had ordered me to not do this type of stuff, even though he did every weekend. Now that I am free of that torture, I can live freely, and do as I please. Like I am tonight.

The server returned with our waters and placed them down on the coffee table before us. "Can I get you two anything else?"

"That will be all for now."

"Okay," he left again.

I picked up my water and took a few sips. Cool and refreshing. "What are your plans this weekend?" He suddenly asked me.

After I swallowed another sip of water, "the usual housework, some food shopping, and afterwards I'm not sure." I usually don't do much after a day of cleaning and shopping. I mostly read. "You?"

"About the same as you, but I'm moving to my new apartment on Sunday."

"Really? Are you moving closer to your work?" Maybe we can talk up a conversation and not have to dance, but I have a feeling we will dance. We're in a club after all.

"Yeah, it beats waiting in traffic for almost an hour to only being ten minutes away now that I can walk instead of drive."

"I understand what you mean there. My apartment is a little bit of a walk, but nowhere near an hour. I don't know how I would be able to do that in heels, haha." I am actually enjoying our conversation together.

The music started to pick up speed and Sesshomaru's eyes went to the dance floor. "Have you danced in heels?" His eyes now went to my feet. I forgot I was in heels.

"I haven't tried to yet." There was a reason why and I wasn't going to explain that to him.

"Is there a reason why?" So, he hasn't been told about my past? Good!

"Never found the time," I lied. When we looked at each other I could tell he was curious, but he would not know. "Do you go clubbing a lot?"

"In my high school days, yes. But since university, work kept me busy, and I just never found the time," he quickly took a sip of his water and placed it back down.

"Come!" He pulled both of us to our feet and led me towards the dance floor. This quickly? I pray and hope my boobs don't make an appearance tonight.

As we walked on to the dance floor, I felt like I was being watched. Watched by evil purple eyes. I looked around and found no one was looking at me. I haven't eaten since lunch, so I put it off as that. "You okay, Rin?"

"I am," at least I hope I will be. "I thought I heard someone say my name." He won't buy it. He's a full demon with selective hearing.

"Mmh," I heard slip from his lips.

The music picked up speed and I watched how the others were dancing. It didn't look too hard, and I began to mimic what they were doing, but I made sure to keep my eyes on Sesshomaru. He gently lifted up my arms and placed them behind his head and very carefully placed his hands along my hips. Oh my god! This soon! But with the flow of the music my mind began to ease, and I allowed my body to do what it has never done before.

Song after song, we remained on the dance floor, and our bodies were now touching. My back to his chest and something that I never saw myself doing, grinding. But Sesshomaru was respectful to keep his hands from exploring in a manner like everyone else. I'm grateful my breast still has not made an appearance.

After the last song finished, Sesshomaru pulled me off the dance floor, and towards the bar. After all that dancing a drink sounded great. A man behind the counter was in the midst of wiping a glass dry with a black cloth. "Good evening, what can I make you both?"

"I'll have a frozen dragon fruit mango margarita," Sesshomaru then turned to me. That actually sounded good.

"I'll take one too, please."

"Excellent choice. That will be ¥463.47."

I was going to pull out my card from my back pocket to pay for our drinks, but Sesshomaru stopped me. "It's on me." He's too generous.

"Thank you," he really didn't have to, but in a way, this is a date.

"It will be about five minutes. If you don't mind waiting?" The bartender explained.

I had no problem with it and it seemed Sesshomaru didn't either. "I have no problem." He gave us a plastic number and we moved over and allowed for others to put their drink orders in. "Rin, I'll be right back." He handed over the plastic number. "I'll just be a minute."

"Thank your time," I wasn't going to ask where he was going. When he walked off, I placed my back against the wall, and watched all the clubbers jamming it out to the house music, but that feeling I was being watched again returned. I once examined my surroundings and still didn't see anyone I found suspicious. Not until… "ahhh!" My forearm was gripped, and I was pulled away from the wall and led towards a backdoor that read emergency exit. I followed the pale white hand that gripped me, and my stomach quivered in fear, "Hakudoshi!" Why is he here?

"Hello, Rin. Miss me?" He had an evil smirk on his face. "I have to say, I've missed you these past few months, and what a coincidence to run into you here tonight of all nights," his grip began to hurt more. "Say, who was that dog demon you were with just now?" He asked in a snarl tone, brushing a strand of hair behind my ear.

"Let me go at once! His name is none of your business!" Would Sesshomaru hear me if I screamed his name?

"Now why should I let you go? Did it ever occur to you that I might want to dance with you? Or that I'm still in love with you, Rin?" He was squeezing my arm to a point that it brought me to my knees. "Oh! Are you going to beg me now?"

I had to do it now. I had to say his name, "SESSHOMARU!" He had to hear me over the loud music.

I was ripped up from the floor, my chin grabbed, and I was shoved against the wall very hard. It sent a sharp pain down my spine. His other hand grabbed my neck, and he pressed down hard. "So, that's his name?" I saw the anger in his purple eyes. They somehow began to turn red. "Rin, I'm still not over our relationship and I demand that you leave with me now!" No! He cannot control me anymore. I am not his property. "Do as I say!"

"HEY!" I finally heard his voice. I peered my eyes open to see Sesshomaru standing there.

Hakudoshi turned his head around to find Sesshomaru standing there too. "WHAT?" He hissed out.

"Let her go!" He gripped Hakudoshi by the shirt. "Now!" Sesshomaru's eyes turned a fierce red. A shade of red I've never seen before. Redder than how Hakudoshi's eyes turned.

"Now why would I let her go? She is after all my girlfriend!" I could feel myself passing out from lack of oxygen. His grip on my neck was at its breaking point. "Now why don't you fuck off and leave us be." I so badly wanted to punch him, but I blacked out before I could.

.

.

.

.

An awful smell wafted under my nose that made me want to throw up. On my arm I felt tight pressure, but not from a hand grip. It would loosen and then tighten back up. "Blood pressure is normal," a male voice addressed.

I opened up my eyes to find myself looking up towards the ceiling. How did I end up on the floor? Above me was a… paramedic? I then looked around me to find the club was not playing a sound, nor flashing lights, but a lot of eyes were all on me, including whispers of the partygoers. "Rin!" I recognized Kagome's voice. She sat on her knees beside me. "Rin, oh thank god you're okay!"

"Ka… Kagome, how did I end up on the floor?" I don't remember why.

"Hakudoshi assaulted you by blocking your airway. After you blacked out, Sesshomaru took care of him by throwing him in the dumpster out back." What did he do?

I sat up, not caring about the eyes of those around me, "where is he? Where is Sesshomaru?" I don't see him anywhere. "I need to thank him."

"Rin, Sesshomaru is possibly facing assault charges and might get arrested." No! "He's out front being detained in handcuffs. Hakudoshi was taken by ambulance to the hospital. He may have a concussion." he deserves it.

"Sesshomaru can't get arrested! He was trying to protect me!" I jumped up from the cement floor, ran for the front doors, and did not care about the paramedics treating me anymore. I probably scared the shit out of them when I leaped up on to my feet.

"Rin, stop!" Kagome followed behind, but I outran her quickly. Didn't realize I could do that in heels.

When I got outside, I found Sesshomaru leaning up against the police cruiser, in cuffs, and talking with the police. "Sesshomaru!" He had to see that I was okay as I ran up to him. "Sesshomaru, I'm sorry. I…" How do I explain the situation that I didn't know my ex-boyfriend would be here tonight?

"Rin, go back inside. I'll handle this." His voice was so calm.

"No! I won't go back inside," he needs to hear what I have to say. "I won't let you be arrested."

"Rin, nothing is going to happen to me. Just go wait inside."

I ignored what he said and turned to the officer that put him in handcuffs. "Officer, you're detaining the wrong person. He was trying to protect me!" If he doesn't want to hear my side of the story and takes Sesshomaru downtown to the station, I will bail him out myself. "My ex-boyfriend assaulted me first and Sesshomaru did what he thought would be best to protect me! You have to understand!"

"Ma'am, go back inside, and leave this to us." No!

"Rin, do as he said," Sesshomaru's voice still remained calm.

"No! Check the cameras and they'll tell you the truth." I pointed towards the building.

"Ma'am, we're in the process right now and if it comes back what your boyfriend has told us, he'll be let go. Now go wait inside." What did he just call Sesshomaru?

"What?"

"Rin, I told them to check the camera aiming at the bar we were at. They'll get their proof here shortly. Go back inside and wait with Kagome and Inuyasha. It shouldn't be too much longer." I don't want to go back inside.

A radio message came over the two-way on the officer's shoulder. It was hard to make out with the white noise background. But from what I could make out that the video did prove we both told him the same thing. "Seems you're a lucky man tonight." Sesshomaru lifted himself away from the cruiser and put his back towards the officer. When the cuffs were off, he turned back to face the officer, "just stay out the way next time and allow the bouncers to take care of the punk."

"I'll remember that for next time," Sesshomaru gripped his wrist.

When Sesshomaru released the pain from the cuffs and was about to lead me back inside, "young lady! Wait a moment!" I heard the officer call for me.

I turned to face him, "yes?" Am I going to get arrested for disobeying him? He went on asking me multiple questions that I answered truthfully and that I can press charges if wanted too. I just told him I would think about it. I would hate to miss work just to have a say in court.

When we were allowed to leave, Sesshomaru led us back towards the building. What do I say to him now? It's my fault he almost got arrested this evening. He'll probably want to leave here soon and go home. I wouldn't blame him. I would go home too, go to bed, and forget this night ever happened.

Inuyasha and Kagome were waiting for us just as we walked through the doors. "Are you guys ready to leave?" Inuyasha asked. "Kagome and I are getting hungry." I don't know if I have much of an appetite right now.

"Let's go." Sesshomaru seemed relieved to be leaving. "You and Kagome can go in your car, since it's a two-seater." I guess that Sesshomaru and I will either go in his car, a taxi, or walk? I hope we can walk, and I can explain everything. Though I could explain if he drove here, but not in a taxi. The driver doesn't need to be in our personal business.

"Rin?" I heard Kagome call me.

"Yes?" I knew what she was going to ask.

"Will you be okay walking with Sesshomaru?" So we will be walking.

"Yes, where will we meet up to eat?" Hopefully a place I've been to before.

"Ginza Kojyu," Sesshomaru answered for me. I've heard of that place. It's a high up establishment. I've also heard their food is to die for. "Rin, wait here and I'll grab our stuff."

"Okay," I didn't bring much. Just my purse and jacket. I still feel a bit off from earlier and that I'll be walking alone with him.

"You okay, kid?" Inuyasha wrapped an arm around my shoulders.

"Yeah, I'll be okay. I just didn't expect that to happen. I really need to get a restraining order out against Hakudoshi," just saying his name made me feel sick to my stomach.

"I'll help you out with that here soon." I forgot Inuyasha works for the police.

"Thank you, Inuyasha. Will next week be good?" I hope so.

"Most definitely, Rin. I'll call a buddy of mine and he can get the papers going on monday." That's great news! "Just so you know, Hakudoshi will be getting arrested after he gets released from the hospital. Since the cameras proved he attacked first." What a relief.

Sesshomaru was back with my jacket and purse and handed them over. "Thank you." I turned to Kagome and Inuyasha, "we'll see you here shortly," I explained, slipping on my jacket.

"See you in a few, Rin." Kagome looked my way, then turned her attention to Sesshomaru. "Keep a good eye on her and don't let anything like what happened again either." She acts like an older sister I've never had. It's kind of embarrassing.

"Yeah, what Kagome said," Inuyasha threw an arm behind his head. "Trust me, Sesshomaru, you won't hear the end of it." Yeah, that's a story that doesn't need to be told.

"So I've heard," he's heard of the story when Inuyasha accidentally lost Sota? "We'll see you both here soon."

He walked off before me, and I just waved goodbye to Kagome and Inuyasha, "drive safely." I then followed Sesshomaru out the front door and we headed east on Hachimitsu.

The night was very clear, but no stars in the sky. Since we live in the city, all the lights from every building takes that beauty I wish to see one night. I would give anything to eat dinner under the stars, with someone special. I wouldn't care if it was cold out. But I don't see that happening ever.

"Rin?" I turned to see Sesshomaru was looking down at me. Has he been looking at me this whole time?

We were at a stop light, waiting for the pedestrian light to come on. "Yes?" I knew he was going to ask.

"Who was that boy?" I remained silent trying to decide if I should just tell him now. "You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to."

"A manipulation ex-boyfriend that I dated," I huffed out. "He never liked me going out like this or doing anything with my friends. I… If I did… I had to keep him updated with my whereabouts every minute of my day and until I went to bed. Including photos."

"Why would you allow a guy like that to treat you like property?" I was young and stupid, but I won't say that.

"I was foolish and thought I was in love, but I was wrong. It wasn't that long ago that I realized I was a stronger person and that being with my ex would get worse to the point I would have to quit my job that I love. So… two months ago I broke up with him and haven't spoken to him since." I have a feeling that when he gets bailed out by his father later, he'll contact me some way, and harass me more.

"Good, you're too good for him anyways," he spoke meaningfully as he rubbed his wrist.

"Are your wrists hurting?" I've been meaning to ask him that.

"They're fine, but are you alright? You still have his hand mark on your neck." I did?

"I didn't notice. I guess my mind went a bit haywire when I found out that you were being detained for protecting me. So, when I came too, I ran out of the building." I should tell him. "If you had gotten arrested I would have bailed you out."

The pediatrician's light still remained a red handprint, when Sesshomaru's golden eyes became wide at my response. "You would have what?"

"I would have bailed you out," I clenched my whole right hand and brought it between my breasts. Basically smacking myself. "I have never met anyone else that would be willing to protect me from an asshole and almost get themselves arrested on the same night. Sesshomaru, you're one of a kind and I don't how I'm going to repay you for your heroic deed."

The walking sign finally appeared and we remained where we stood. Our eyes never looked away from each other as the other bystanders crossed the road. He remained silent and so did I. The only sound was the wind that blew both our hair and the talking bystanders passing by us.

Did I say the right thing? "I…" I turned my back to him as the small screen turned back to a red handprint. He needs to hear more. "I meant what I said, Sesshomaru. You can accept or disagree, but I will stand by my word, always!" I'll never go back on what I said, ever.

"Rin?" He finally said my name and I turned back to look his way to see the same calm look moments ago, "you would have bailed a basic stranger out of jail that you've just met hours ago?"

I swallowed an unexpected lump in my throat. "Yes!" I could feel and sense a strange arora coming from him. "You… Sesshomaru, you have this arora of someone that I could trust and not fear, though you're a full demon." He's going to think I sound pathetic.

He stuck a hand into the front pocket of his jeans, with his thumb hanging out, "never have I met a human girl who will be willing to bail a demon like myself out of jail for defense and recover so quickly."

"It's the thought that counts." We both chuckled at my response.

The small screen turned back to white and we proceeded across this street and somehow found our hands connected with each other, "thanks."

"Anytime."

I can see this as the start of a good friendship for us.

"Rin?"

.

.

.

.

"Rin?" I heard Sesshomaru calling my name twice. I really must have spaced out.

"Yes? Sorry, Sesshomaru. I think I spaced out." I looked up at the man I absolutely adored and cherished. "Are you ready to leave?"

"Soon, I just need you to lift your hair up." Lift my hair up? Before I did, I gave him a questionable look. He chuckled for a second and then pulled out a long rectangular box. "Another gift," he announced and opened the white leather box.

My eyes lit up seeing the thin silver chain and dangly single white pearl. There were even matching dangly earrings. "wow! They're so beautiful." He's gifted me so much these last few days and it's thought that counts.

"Will you lift your hair?" He asked again.

I did and he gently wrapped the necklace around my neck and clipped into place. "Thank you," I lowered my hair back down, putting my fresh curls back into place, then I placed the earrings on, and I was ready to go. I remained looking at us in the mirror, smiling at him. "Where are you taking me this evening?" Not a lot of places would be open, but knowing Sesshomaru, he probably put in a reservation at a fancy restaurant somewhere.

"You'll find out here soon," he said quickly and went over to the dress cover and pulled something else out. There was something else inside? "The dress had a shoulder wrap," he came back around and placed it on my bare skin, clipping the fabric into place. "We must be off or will miss the scheduled flight."

"Schedule flight? Sesshomaru, we're taking a plane?" I am totally confused.

"No, a helicopter to our destination."

Okay another question, "do I need to pack an overnight bag?" It wouldn't take me long to pack.

"I had a bag already made out for you, but we must be leaving, Rin." Whatever he has planned, I know that I could trust him, and the clothes that he has provided me.

"Okay," I kissed him before we left.

Kagome had already left by the time we got outside and Sesshomaru's personal driver, Suikotsu, was waiting for us with the door to a black SUV opened. "Miss Kimura, good evening. It's a pleasure to see you again," he greeted me with a bow and held a hand to help me get inside.

"Good evening, Suikotsu and thank you," I graciously took his offer of help, placed my hand within his, and stepped up inside the car. Sesshomaru followed behind me. There was a divider inside the vehicle that gave us privacy from the driver and thankfully it was up. When the door was closed, "I wish I knew where we were going, Sesshomaru. I know we're having dinner here soon, but what restaurant requires a helicopter ride?"

"A very special one for us to stay for the weekend." A weekend getaway!

"I hope during this getaway we can finally see the stars!" On one date, Sesshomaru took me to an air space and science museum because I once told him I wanted to see the stars, but he promised that he would take me somewhere where I could see them fully and not inside a building or through a telescope.

"I promise I will." He lifted my hand and kissed every knuckle.

We arrived at the airport, but we're driven through a side road, and went through a metal gate. Suikotsu drove us over to a helicopter that was ready for takeoff. It was quite large and had Sesshomaru's family's crescent of a silver daiyoukai on the doors. "Wow! Your family has a personal helicopter?"

"Yes, and many other forms of transportation." We came to a full stop and Sesshomaru opened the door before the driver could. "This will be a lot faster than the jet." Jet? I wouldn't be surprised if they had their own private island.

Sesshomaru stepped out of the car and held his hand out for mine. "Such a gentleman you are. Is there anything you can't do?"

When I stepped out, he kept mine hand within his, "cook," he admitted.

I threw my head back and laughed, "really?" I cupped his arm and moved up against him. "Maybe you'll allow me to cook for you one night?" I really would. "Anything your heart desires," I said seductively.

He placed both his hands along my face. "Anything?" Our lips were inches from touching.

"Mmh," and before I could give him more of a response our lips pressed together. He was not the one to show affection in front of others, but tonight he seemed okay with it. As we separated from each other, "I really do want to cook for you, Sesshomaru, and we can shop for the ingredients together!"

He was silent for a moment, but nodded his head in agreement, "together," as he led me to the helicopter. "For now our dinner awaits us."

The flight over was amazingly beautiful. I got to see the city from a new perspective and everyone looked like a colony of ants on the streets. Even the vehicles driving around. I looked all around and I watched the city disappear as we crossed over the harbor. "Sesshomaru, where are we going?"

"A private island, Rin." I knew it! "An island at one of my family's homes resides on." I don't think I want to know how many homes they have. He peered his head to the side and looked out to the horizon, "we're almost there." I turned my head to the side, which was uncomfortable, to see bright lights. I could tell it was a large home. But not just any type of home. It was a mansion!

The pilot landed on the helipad, which was on the roof. A male servant came to open the door, when the rotor blades above our heads slowed down completely. He bowed at the waist, "good evening, Master Sesshomaru and Miss Rin. Your dinner will be ready shortly," he announced to us.

Sesshomaru stepped out first, nodded to the young man, turned around, and held his hand out for mine. I graciously accepted his help again, conscientiously stepping out of the helicopter, and he led me towards an open double door. Through that open door came a delightful smell. Our meal, whatever it is, smelled delectable, and I couldn't wait to eat.

Inside was a mini lounge, decked out in lavish furniture and many, many tropical plants. There weren't many paintings on the walls, due to the large glass windows, but there were lots of unique sculptures. I stopped for a second to admire the room.

"Is art one of your interests?" Sesshomaru asked me after a moment of silence.

"Kind of. I don't know much about it though." I caught another whiff of our dinner. "Smells so good."

"Wagyu beef, matsutake mushrooms, steamed carrots, and desert is square watermelon," he listed off. Every one of those foods, from my memory from seeing them in stores, were quite expensive, but still sounded so good. "Is that alright?"

"Yes! Of course. I've been looking forward to this all day." I am not picky and I couldn't wait to enjoy our private meal together. But I did have a question to ask him. "Tell me, Sesshomaru, was this your idea?" It had to be. He only eats at high end places, but he made plans to have food prepared at his home.

"Yes," he answered and led us down a L shaped staircase. I had to hold my dress up a bit so I wouldn't step on the fabric. Even though there was a slip. As we descended down, soft music was played from a hidden stereo somewhere on the main floor. It was a piano ballad and I believe the artist was Mozart.

When we stepped onto the main floor, a male servant came out of nowhere, and bowed towards us. "Master Sesshomaru, dinner will be ready shortly." He turned to the side, bowed again and gestured an arm towards a different direction. I followed where his arm was pointing and I gasped. There before my eyes was a fully decorated table for two; white table cloth, candles, and a beautiful centerpiece of flowers. It was immaculate. The only time I've seen decorations like this was in a magazine of Japan Luxury.

Sesshomaru led me across the marble floor, towards the table, and pulled out the white clothed covered chair for me. "Thank you," I took my seat and he pushed me in. Since it was a round table, Sesshomaru took a seat next to me. I removed my shoulder wrap and passed my belongings to the same male servant who had followed us over. "What can I start you off to drink?"

"The imported wine and waters," Sesshomaru ordered for us.

"Yes, Master." He left fast.

"Imported wine? Does it hail from France?" Or maybe another country.

"Italy, Rin. It's called Saladini Pilastri Rosso Piceno Piediprato," he spoke Italian so well.

"Sounds really good. I'm guessing a sweet wine?" My favorite type.

"Yes, is sweet wine to your liking?" He grabbed a cloth napkin and graciously placed it on his lap. I did the same. I didn't want to spill anything on his gift.

"It is. I've never been a fan of bitter wine," I explained, crossing my ankles. "How was work this morning?" I wanted to change the subject.

"Fairing, I didn't spend much time there. What about you?" Our drinks were finally brought and the server just left for the kitchen.

I took a sip before I answered because I was thirsty. The wine went down smoothly and tasted fresh off the vine. "This is delightful!" After I took another small sip, "it was okay. Your father came in and I helped him out with his financial work."

"Mmh, I'm still not ready to tell him about us. I hope you understand?"

"Of course, Sesshomaru. You can tell him when you're ready." I had a question to ask him, "you haven't told him about the incident that happened at the bar have you?"

"No, and I threatened Inuyasha to not say a word. Has that creep contacted you anymore since that night?" I know he hates talking about my ex, but I like to keep Sesshomaru updated about everything.

"No, he hasn't. Since I had my number changed, I have not heard one word from him," I'm grateful that I don't have social media too. "Enough about him. I'm really happy we can spend this evening together." I hope it lasts forever.

"As I, Rin." He picked up my hand and kissed my knuckles again. "Your scent tastes amazing." His eyes looked up at me with adoration in them. "And your eyes match your amber scent."

I was a bit shocked at his compliment. "You really think so?" No one has ever complimented my eyes before.

"Yes!" He's so meaningful.

"Thank you."

Dinner was brought out and placed before us, including an asian salad. It looked so appealing. "Will there be anything else I can get you two?"

"That will be all," I agree. I know I won't be able to eat all of it, but I will surely enjoy this meal we will feast upon. I cut a small piece of beef off, put it in my mouth, and chewed slowly. I wanted to enjoy the savory taste it had. Then I tried the mushroom, and it was delicious too. Sesshomaru wiped his mouth with the cotton cloth and placed it down back in his lap. "Is your meal to your liking?"

I held up a finger as I was still chewing my food, grabbed the napkin, and patted my lips. After I could finally swallow and a sip of water, "it's really good, Sesshomaru."

"Good."

During our dinner and dessert of watermelon, we asked simple questions to each other and answered them the best we could. When we were done eating and having our second glass of wine, Sesshomaru gave me a tour of the home and showed me almost every room on the main floor. He explained that the second floor was just for the helipad and the first floor was the main floor, with all the living space.

Sesshomaru's bedroom faced the direction of the city, but you couldn't see it since we were several miles out. His room was about the size of my living room and kitchen combined. Maybe even bigger. "Wow!"

"It's not much, but it's nice to come here and get away once in a while," he explained. I know with work he wouldn't have much time to relax. But this weekend he will.

"I bet. It's been so long since I could get away from real life and just relax without worrying about anything." It was probably around the time I lost my family to the tsunami when I was five. If it wasn't for that earthquake when we were on vacation, they would all still be here with me. Almost twenty years without them. I miss them so much.

"Rin?"

"Yes?" His hand cupped my cheek, rubbing an unexpected tear from my eye. I didn't realize I was crying!

"What upsets you?" He led me to the couch that was in his room, but instead of sitting beside him, he pulled me into his lap. "Will you tell me?"

I half smiled at him, and I knew it would be soon that I explained about my past. "I was thinking of my family that was tragically killed when I was five. It happened on the day of the Yokohama earthquake." I had to take a few silent deep breaths. If I think too hard, I have panic attacks. "My family and I went on a long-extended vacation there before the end of summer break," I had to hold back my tears. "That morning, minutes before the earthquake, I decided I wanted to go play in a jungle gym on the roof of the hotel we were staying at and my parents allowed me." I knew I wouldn't be able to hold back my tears and my make-up would run down my face. "I wasn't even up there for five minutes when the 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck."

I could still feel how the equipment shook as I hid inside the slide. Rocking back and forth, with a crackling sound. I thought it would collapse on me and crush me to death. When the shaking stopped, I was afraid to move and I screamed for my mother, who was all the way on the first floor. I wanted to be with her so badly that I left, knowing aftershocks would occur, and went to the door that was controlled electrically. I pushed the button, and the door would not open. Panic set in and I cried and screamed even more.

It wasn't long after that the aftershocks took effect, the screams of tourists, and a new sound that I never heard came crashing at full force. Water from the sea took over the island, rushing through the town, including the hotel I was on top of. The sound of glass breaking and the screams of everyone inside. I knew my family was a part of them and there was nothing I could do. "It was later that night I was found by police and rescued." I wanted to finish the rest of the story, but I began to tremble, and my tears ran down my cheeks. Sesshomaru pulled me into an embrace, and I hid my face into his neck.

"You don't have to finish, Rin," his clawed hand rubbed the exposed area of my back.

"I'm sorry," I sobbed.

"You have nothing to be sorry for, Rin. You're allowed to show your emotions around me," he whispered softly and caressed my cheek.

It's so nice of him to say that. When I was with Hakudoshi I wasn't allowed to show any form of emotion. "Thank you, Sesshomaru. You're so genuine." I wouldn't mind if we remained here all night. I've never officially cuddled with him like this or in bed. But I wouldn't mind.

Silence was all we heard for some time. I could hear a gentle growl coming from deep inside Sesshomaru. It was almost like a purr. It was calming that my tears started to subside. "Rin?"

I remained curled up in his lap and my head on his shoulder. "Hm?"

"Would you like to see the stars?" He whispered into my ear.

I totally forgot we were away from the city and that stars would be clear to see. Though I remained where I laid, "yes!" I was finally ready to see the stars in person.

Sesshomaru brought me to my feet, "wait here!" he ordered, and he left for another door, which looked to be a closet. I wonder what he's grabbing. A minute later he came out with a cotton jacket. "I don't want you to get cold," and helped me put the jacket on.

"Thank you, Sesshomaru." Hakudoshi would never do that for me. He would have watched me freeze and then laugh afterward.

Sesshomaru led me out onto the balcony, which looked out to the dark sea. It was windy and cold, but not enough to make me freeze, and hold myself. To my left was a… hot tub? I haven't been in one of those for years. But that's not what we came out here for. I looked up to the sky and admired to finally see the stars that I've missed so much. They were twinkly bright and even some flew by. I made a wish upon it for a wonderful new year and new adventures for Sesshomaru and me.

"Rin?" He pulled me in front of him and held both my hands within his.

Our foreheads touched and our eyes closed. "Yes?"

"What are you thinking?" His lips trailed down my forehead to my nose. I knew where they were headed.

"How happy I am to celebrate this night with you. It means a lot to me." It really did. His lips found my top lip, kissing me, but not fully. "What are you thinking?"

His lips hovered over mine, almost close to touching. "How I finally got to whisk you away and not be in that city to celebrate their way." I know what he means. Fireworks, people counting down loudly, and intoxicated folks who cause a scene.

"I'm glad you were able to whisk me away from the city and that we get to be alone with no disturbance." Sesshomaru has never stayed the night with me before and neither have I at his home. Though I've been over to his new place a few times just to hang out. "I love when we can have this time alone, but I know it won't last long."

"It doesn't have to end, Rin." Huh?

"What do you mean?" I pulled away and looked up at him.

"Kagome is getting ready to move out and you'll soon be alone in that apartment. I know being alone is something you're not ready for, and if you'll allow it, you may move in with me." What!

"Sesshomaru, are you sure? We've only been together for two months!" It's a generous offer, but I feel as if it is too soon.

"I am, Rin. I'll make sure you're always safe and treated with privacy," he's too kind. "You can also make me dinner like you promised."

I had to smile. Being alone in that apartment will feel like I lost another family member, and I didn't want to feel alone again. Plus, my lease was close to renewal, and I had planned to renew it next week. "I'll take up your offer, Sesshomaru." A new step in our journey together.

Sesshomaru brought both my hands and kissed them both. Then he placed them behind his head and took my lips to his. Our bodies pressed up together and I could feel his heartbeat matching with mine. His left hand cupped my face, while his right arm held me to him.

He was so warm that it made my body feel hot and almost sweaty. So, I removed one arm and went for the zipper of his jacket, lowered the metal completely off, removed the fabric from my body, and allowed it to drop down. With me doing that an unexpected growl left from Sesshomaru's lips. Did that turn him on?

Sesshomaru slightly pulled away as the front edge of his lips was up against mine and he panted hard, "Rin?" Does he think? … Am I ready for this next step?

I've never imagined making love so soon. I was the type of girl who would wait until marriage. I've always told myself I would remain pure until I met the man of my dreams. But being here with Sesshomaru, "I'm ready, Sesshomaru." I was.

An hour of passionate love making turned into cuddling under the Egyptian satin sheets. We remained bare as I laid my head along his shoulder, ready for the clock to strike twelve, which was a few hours away. Sesshomaru rubbed my bare skin again with his claws, almost massaging my back. I could actually fall asleep to him doing that. He was gentle throughout that hour and pleased me in a way I never imagined. I wouldn't do that myself if I was home alone.

We both washed up afterward together, dressed in comfy pajamas, and curled up on the couch in his room, with a fire going. Sesshomaru was so generous and wrapped a fluffy white blanket on top of me. "Warm yet?"

I curled up on him, "I am." I let out a yawn and now I don't think I'll make it to New Years. "I'm sorry. I'm still not used to staying up this late."

"Five minutes till the new year and you're ready to fall asleep?"

I quietly laughed, "yeah. But I'll hold out those last five minutes and then I'll rest."

Sesshomaru without thinking pulled both of us off the couch, led me back onto the now freshly made bed, and we curled back up together. "Three minutes now."

"Mmh." I was on the edge of sleep, but three minutes was nothing. A quick kiss here soon and then I'll be out for sure.

Sesshomaru turned on the TV, turned the volume down a bit, and put the news on just as they came back from a commercial. "We're two minutes away from the new year as more residents and tourists come in just before the ball drops." Following the news reporter's comment came screaming partygoers ready to ring in the new year. I'm just happy that we are here and not there.

"Sixty, fifty-nine, fifty-eight." They began to count down.

Sesshomaru held me more to him and I curled up to him, face to face. We just looked at each other, almost blocking out the count down in the background.

"Five, four, three, two, one… Happy New Year!" All in the background screamed and faded away when the tv shut off.

"Happy New Year, Rin." Before I could tell him the same, we kissed the new year away.
