Chapter 4: The talk
The morning after…
Kaylee was in the kitchen, looking at her phone when Buck sat next to her.
"So, you and Eddie?" asked Buck with a big smile.
"What, it was nothing, my ex was here, and I didn't want to deal with him, that's it" she replied firmly.
She stood up and left.
"Yeah, yeah, that was he said too, but don't get me wrong. I know there is something between the two of you" added Buck.
She turned and looked at him with disdain.
"Shut up Buck."
He shook his head and laughed because he knew he was right, and he just had to watch this show.
Eddie was working at the gym, when he noticed Kaylee going down and walking toward the truck. He stopped for a second, thinking about going to talk to her then he resigned thinking it will be awkward. He just smiled at her when their eyes met. She replied to him with a big but awkward smile. She was not ready for this conversation. But the Karma had a different opinion about that.
"So, change of plan, Chimney is not working with you today, he has a doctor's appointment, so Kay and Eddie you are working together" exclaimed Bobby, entering the firehouse.
"Great, I guess we will have this conversation after all" thought Kaylee.
They both nod at Bobby and Eddie left the gym to go take a shower and put his work outfit on.
"So, you will have plenty of times to break the ice, and if it's boring during shift you both can make it interesting" said Buck at Kaylee imitating a kiss.
"OMG! Buck you are so dead, if it's not me, I'll ask your sister to do it" laughed Kaylee.
"Sometimes, I wished that you and my sister never met, it's not fun when the two of you are against me" he added.
"Power of women" exclaimed Kaylee showing her fist.
The alarm went off and everyone left within a minute. As they left the station, Buck looked at Kaylee in the ambulance and winked at her. As a result, she showed him her middle finger.
"So" started Eddie "are we going to talk about what happened last night."
"And here I was trying to avoid this situation, but thanks to Chimney I can't" laughed nervously Kaylee "look it was nice for you to do that, I really did not want to talk to him, and that kiss was just that. A diversion, a mean to get him jealous" she added trying to persuade herself she was telling the truth.
"Yeah, yeah, exactly, and considering the way he looked at me, it worked. A good old diversion" continued Eddie trying to convince himself of the same reason.
"Glad we could talk about that; I didn't want things to be awkward between us" said Kaylee looking at him smiling.
"You're right, especially since you are the best partner I've worked with" laughed Eddie looking at her.
"Wow, I won't tell anyone about that."
"Thank you."
They both laughed, convinced that it was settled.
They all arrived at the scene; it was a car accident. Bobby gave the orders. Hen and Chimney had to help the driver of the first car and Bobby and Buck went to help the second driver whose doors was blocked.
In the meantime, Kaylee and Eddie checked on the passengers who manage to leave the vehicles, but they were unarmed.
When Bobby and Buck had the second driver, they put him on a gurney. Kaylee went at the back of the ambulance with the patient, and Eddie drove to the hospital.
