Chapter 6: The Gala

Kaylee was getting ready, finishing her makeup. One last touch of red lipstick and she was good to go. She checked her in the mirror, she was wearing a long red dress with a beautiful back cleavage. She curled her hair and attached a hair strand on the side.

She walked to her living room when someone knocked on the door.

"Hey, you look good" said Kaylee opening the door.

"Thanks, wow, you look fabulous" said Eddie blushing a little.

She turned on herself, look at him with a charming look and thanked him.

"Come inside, I just need to grab my shoes and my purse, and we are good to go."

Eddie walked in, his heart was about to leave his chest and his hands were a little sweaty, he was a little nervous, she was extremely beautiful in that dress, he could not take his eyes off her.

"I'm ready, we can go."

They walked outside and Eddie opened her the car door. When they were both inside, Eddie looked at her with a big smile.

"So, any chance you'll tell me more about tonight before we arrived" he asked.

"Eddie, you waited that long, you can wait another ten minutes" said sarcastically Kaylee.

He laughed and started the car. When they arrived, everyone was already here.

"Seems we are the last" said Eddie.

"No, they are early" laughed Kaylee.

Chimney and Maddie walked towards them and hugged them.

"Kaylee, finally, we were getting worried" said Maddie.

"Maybe they were busy, that's why they're late" said Buck joining the conversation.

"Dude!" exclaimed Eddie.

Kaylee hit him with her purse and Maddie did the same.

"Told you Buck, girl power" exclaimed Kaylee "it's nice to see you Maddie."

"Nice to see you too."

"Ladies, if you don't mind, I would like to take my date for a dance" said Chimney extending his hand towards Maddie.

The girl laughed and Maddie went with Chimney to the dancefloor.

"They are so cute together, seems really happy" said Eddie.

"Yeah, she really deserves the best, especially everything she's been through, and Chimney and her, they are perfect for each other" said Kaylee.

"Want a drink?" asked Eddie.

"Absolutely, let the party begins" ironized Kaylee.

Kaylee was with Eddie next to the bar, talking when an old woman walked towards them.

"Remember when we told you to bring a date, that's why" exclaimed Kaylee moving a few steps away.

"Hello, I'm Georgiana Carter, and you are?" asked the old lady.

"Edouardo Diaz" replied Eddie.

"It's nice to have a man that strong working as a firefighter" said the old lady touching Eddie's arm.

Eddie was embarrassed and Kaylee almost chocking on her drink because the situation was so funny, she gave him a mocking look.

"You know my husband worked as a firefighter for 30 years, he was as strong as you, but you are way more handsome" continued Georgiana.

"Thanks ma'am" he was so embarrassed; he did not know what to say. Kaylee decided to help him out the way he did.

"Babe" she said putting an arm around his "you promised me a dance."

"Oh, that's your girlfriend" said Georgiana a little annoyed.

"Yes!" added Eddie relieved.

"Nice to see you miss Carter."

"Nice to see you too, excuse me, someone is calling me" said Georgiana leaving Eddie and Kaylee alone.

"Thank you, guess she was the surprise no one wanted to talk to me about it?" asked Eddie.

"Indeed, she is. She is small but she knows what she wants."

"You are right, did she lose her husband?"

"No, he's right there" said Kaylee pointing at Miss Carter's husband "she's just the flirting type, and young firefighters are her favorite. When Buck went at his first gala, with no date, she followed him the entire night, flirting all night, it was so funny to watch" said Kaylee.

"I'm glad you were here" laughed Eddie "so I promise you a dance, care to join me?" asked Eddie.

"With pleasure"

They were dancing, close. Both of their hearts were beating in union. They were looking at each other like the world around us disappear and they were alone, like nothing else mattered, like the time had stopped.

Everyone was looking at them, seeing the obvious, something Eddie and Kaylee refused to see.

"Guys tell me I'm not the only to see it, right?" asked Buck.

"You're not" replied his sister.

They were getting closer, as if they were about to kiss but were pulled from this moment, by a chief wanted to introduce them to a benefactor.

"Here you have our last recruit Edouardo Diaz and one of the best paramedics in town Kaylee Ortiz" said the Chief.

"Hello" said the benefactor shaking their hands "how is it to work here?"

"It's the best station, everyone is nice" said Eddie looking at Kaylee.

"He is right, it's the best station" added Kaylee.

"So, Aaron, you haven't seen the captain of the station, let me introduce you, thank you guys."

They both nodded as they walked out.

"A drink?" asked Kaylee.

Eddie nodded; he was still surprised of everything he felt during the dance.

They joined the rest of the team and they all made a toast at Eddie's first gala.

"You did it, you survived Miss Carter" laughed Buck.

"Something you couldn't do" laughed Eddie "but honestly I couldn't to do it without Kaylee, she saved me."

"Cheers to Kaylee" exclaimed everyone.
