In the evening, Chris and Champ were at Clark's. He had cooked and they wanted to have a cozy evening on the sofa and watch a movie. Chris was in his arms and just as the movie started, Clark's phone rang for the thousandth time that evening.
"Sorry babe, I have to take this, I'll be right back." he said frantically and Chris landed ungently with her head on the back of the sofa. She listened with one ear and the conversation didn't seem peaceful, it sounded like Clark was arguing with someone. Over and over she saw him pacing back and forth in a frenzy. Chris frowned and as she thought, she realized how many times that damn phone had rung or buzzed that evening and Clark seemed nervous each time. She would call him on it in a moment when he came back into the living room. A whimper snapped her out of her thoughts and when she looked down she saw Champ standing in front of her, tail wagging.
"Huh big boy, you wanna come up?" she patted the spot next to her with her hand and with a jump Champ was lying with her, snuggled up to her. He had his head on her thigh and was enjoying the way Chris was nuzzling his ears. "You like that, I know." she grinned and then she realized again how much she loved this dog.
"Sorry Chris took a little longer after all." Clark came back a little out of breath half an hour later.
"Yeah a little longer is good Clark. What's going on? Who was that? Any problems?" wanted Chris to know. He joined her at the sofa and gave her a kiss on the cheek to distract her. "Why are you avoiding me? What's going on?" persisted Chris.
" Damn, Why is this an issue now huh? We were going to have a nice evening and now you're starting a disscusion here." Clark got a little louder.
"Yeah, it's an insanely nice evening," she said sarcastically. "You're always on the phone and disappear for what feels like an eternity and when I ask you what's going on you avoid me. That's great Clark, really, I don't feel like watching the movie anymore." Now Chris was getting angry.
"Oh babe, come on, I didn't mean it that way, but you just have to trust me. It's nothing, just a buddy of mine who needs help. And it's a big case so we are all involved if it blows up."
"A buddy yeah? You know it's not easy for me to trust anyone and actually I thought I could with you, but right now I'm really doubting Clark." Chris admitted.
"Why are you making an issue out of this Chris. You could always trust me and now you're acting like this?" now Clark was getting louder again. "And besides, what's that dog doing here on the sofa? He belongs on the floor." he grabbed Champ by the neck and pulled him down. Champ acknowledged this with a short scream followed by a growl.
"What the hell Clark? This isn't Champ's first time on the sofa and now it's a problem, is it? I think it's better if I leave now." Chris got up, took Champ with her and left rather confused and disappointed. Why didn't Clark tell her what was going on?

Friday morning, actually a day to be in a good mood, since Chris also had a free weekend ahead of her, but she didn't feel like it at all at the moment. She flopped into the bathroom to take a shower and her mind went on a roller coaster ride. Why was Clark constantly on the phone yesterday and why was he making such a secret of it? Did he have something to hide from her? Was he in trouble? She loved him, but her trust in him was crumbling badly right now. And then there was Jim Street, a strange guy. On the one hand, totally self-absorbed and arrogant, but there had to be something positive about him, otherwise Champ wouldn't be so into him. At this thought, Chris had to smile. There was a meeting about the case today and she was supposed to sit down with Street so he could tell her about his undercover experience.
"Let's go champ, let's go." she briefly stroked his head and he happily followed her.

Arriving at work, Chris was about to go get a coffee when Champ suddenly disappeared.
"Champ? Hey Champ where are you? What is that sly dog doing again?" Chris muttered to herself, but didn't think too much about it, because it was allowed for the service dogs to run free in the building. So she continued on her way to the kitchen. As she stood at the vending machine a voice spoke from behind her.
"Hey good morning, aren't you missing someone?" it was clearly Street's voice. Chris turned around, inwardly already annoyed what would come now again and there she was him with Champ at his side.
"Well, actually, I should have guessed that." now she had to laugh and Street joined in. She crouched down and Champ ran towards her. When he reached her he slobbered once across her face.
"You faithless tomato, now you come crawling back." Chris was still laughing. Street also squatted down and petted Champ.
"He's really a great boy. I was in the armory and before I knew it he was standing in front of me, tail wagging. The fellows had told me where you were." Street smiled at Chris.
"Thanks, nice of you to bring him here especially for me." Chris nodded at him.
"Yeah. I'm not just the arrogant guy from Long Beach, I can be different." Street winked at her and before Chris could counter he walked out of the kitchen and just called out, "See you later Chris."
Unbelievable this guy...

Chris and Street were now both sitting in on the meeting for the new case. Both Street's boss from Long Beach and Chris boss were present, the situation was probably very serious and the cartel was already on their way to Wilmington to plan the deatils of their deal.
"Guys please listen carefully everyone. Street has been able to plant bugs on various people in the cartel during his undercover operation. As a result, we now have the ability to track exactly what they are planning. We fear we have a mole in the department. Information has been leaked to the Cali Cartel that they could never have known. I'm asking you to keep your eyes and ears open and if you see anything strange, talk to us immediately." Chris and Street looked at each other a little shocked. A mole? Here on the team? Unimaginable, actually. When the meeting was over, Street walked after Chris.
"Chris wait a minute please." and sure enough, she stopped. She looked at him questioningly and somehow it seemed to her that he was a bit nervous.
"We have to sit down together, too, so I can tell you about my undercover work and what I've found." he paused and looked Chris only fleetingly in the eye.
"Yeah, so? Now tell me, what do you want?" Chris was impatient, so wanted to just go and go and train with Champ.
"So, um, do you want to get together tonight and talk in a more comfortable atmosphere? Don't get me wrong, I'm not hitting on you." he still grinned slightly as he said the last sentence. Chris was a little skeptical, but agreed.
"Ok, let's make it 8:00 pm at my place?"
"Great, I'll bring something to drink, yeah?" he looked at her uncertainly.
"Fine by me. See you later." and she was already walking on. Chris wasn't sure if it had been a good idea to invite him over, but what was going to happen except that she was going to jump down his throat.

When Chris had finished work, her cell phone rang. On the display she saw Clark's name. In her mind she rolled her eyes and actually she didn't feel like talking to him right now.
"Hey, what's up?" she answered and spoke very emotionlessly.
"Hey babe, do you want to have dinner tonight? My place at 8 pm?" he sounded like nothing had happened the night before.
"Sorry, no time today. And besides, you don't think everything is just fine after last night, do you?" Chris was still angry about Clark's behavior, especially towards Champ.
"Oh babe, don't be like that. The dog is not made of sugar. Come on, I love you." he uttered.
"Sorry, but like I said, I can't, meet Street. See you." and she had already hung up. Was this a good idea to mention Street? She didn't know, but somehow she liked the idea that Clark would surely be annoyed by it now.
