Street kept dialing Chris' number, but the connection seemed so bad that nothing worked. He still decided to write her a quick message so she would be alerted right away should she get reception again.
"Ok then plan B." he muttered to himself. Actually there was no plan B, but Street was spontaneous enough to come up with something. Clark had just parked in front of his apartment and got out. Street stopped a few feet away and now ran to Clark.
"Clark?" he called out. "Hey, what a coincidence." He tried to smile and hide his tension. Clark stopped and looked at Street, his joy at seeing him held in check.
"Hey, uh Street, isn't it? What brings you here?" Clark looked skeptical.
"A friend of mine lives around the corner and I couldn't get a parking spot right here. How are you?" Street felt kind of weird after that question, he didn't care at all how Clark was doing. Inside, he had a mad rage at the guy for what he had done to Chris and for his criminal dealings.
"I'm fine. I'm going to see Chris later today." Clark had to lay that on him right away, didn't like the fact that Chris had obviously found a good friend in Street.

While the two men made small talk, Chris still sat on the bed in shock. She was jolted out of her stupor when her cell phone vibrated. As she looked at the display her eyes went wide with shock. Three calls from Street and one message. Quickly she opened it and instantly jumped up.
"Damn it! I've got to get out of here." Cautiously, she peeked out the window and saw Street downstairs chatting with Clark. A wave of relief came over her and she quickly sought the distance. Chris waited around the corner until Clark had actually left and Street had already spotted her. He signaled for her to follow him. Arriving at the car, Street suddenly pulled Chris into his arms.
"God, are you okay?" He looked at her searchingly. "The reception was bad, I couldn't reach you, I was really scared for a second." There was no response from Chris. She stood in front of Street and swallowed hard.
"Chris? What is it? You found something." Street lowered his voice, suspecting something bad.
"He's been officially suspended." She paused before continuing. "For misappropriation of evidence."
"Shit Chris, I'm so sorry." Street gave her another hug, and Chris let it go.

On the way to Chris' apartment, she turned to Street again.
"We need to find more evidence Street. That's not enough to nail Clark. He called you on your undercover phone once, didn't he? It's been a while." Chris waited for his answer.
"Yeah he did, why?" Street didn't immediately know what Chris was getting at.
"Well, how about you call him randomly while I'm with him. Then I'll pay attention to where he puts the phone and at an opportune moment I'll grab it and we can track the calls and messages he's made from there and finally talk to our bosses." Chris looked motivated and she was determined to put Clark behind bars.
"Hey, why didn't I think of that? That's a great idea Chris." Street was enthusiastic. "But he'll notice if his phone is missing."
"So what? So he's misplaced it and we'll both have to hurry so I can slip it back to him before he gets too suspicious, and in the meantime I can put a little influence on him, after all I'm still his girlfriend." Chris was sure the plan would work.
"Ok deal. When are you seeing Clark again?" wanted Street to know.
"Tomorrow night. He was going to come to me, but then I'll go to him. No problem." Chris smiled briefly and got out. She leaned into the car again to say goodbye to Street. "Good night, sleep tight, and thanks about today. That could have gone bad." Chris gave another quick wave and went inside.

When she unlocked the door, a good-humored Champ was already waiting for her.
"Hey my boy. How's it going? You had to wait quite a while for me today, huh. But soon it will be over, soon Clark's business will be uncovered and we'll have our peace from him." Chris sat down on the sofa and Champ immediately snuggled up to her. Lost in thought, she stroked his head.
It just had to work, they just had to be able to prove Clark's contact and dealings with the Cali Cartel. He couldn't get away with it. Suddenly Chris became sad. How could she have not noticed all this time? I wonder how long he had been such a criminal. Was she too blinded by love, or maybe she didn't want to notice some signs? These questions kept Chris very busy and she had another restless night.

When Chris woke up she felt totally exhausted. She looked at her cell phone and was relieved to have some time to herself before her shift started. She quickly wrote Clark a message about tonight, she really wanted to go to him. She didn't have to wait long for a reply and her friend didn't seem to mind.
"Wonderful, I'll have to tell Street about that later so we can plan when it's best for him to call." Now a little more elated, Chris got up and showered. After a hearty breakfast and a walk with Champ, they headed off to work.

The shift went quietly and Chris was already mentally preparing for the evening with Clark. She was a bit nervous, she had to admit, but she wasn't alone, Street was downstairs in the car and in an emergency he could intervene. But it wouldn't come to that, Chris told herself. She was jolted out of her thoughts by the knock on her front door.
"Hey Chris, you ready?" Street stood in front of her and in his gaze she could also see tension.
"Yeah we're good to go. Come on Champ you can come." He joyfully marched next to Street and the three of them got into the car.

When Street stopped the car and pulled up in front of Clark's apartment, he gave Chris another scrutinizing look.
"You don't have to do this if you're not sure. You know that, right?" He said quietly. Chris looked out the window up at the apartment and took a deep breath.
"I know, but we have to go through with this now or we'll never get anywhere." Chris picked up the door handle and was about to get out when Street gently grabbed her by the shoulder.
"I'm here. If anything comes up, I'll be right up. I can hear everything through the earpiece and if anything goes wrong I'll be right there with you, okay?" He looked her in the eye. Chris just nodded and went upstairs. Clark had already heard them in the stairwell and stood grinning at the door.
"Hey babe, glad you're here. I missed you." He took a step toward her and kissed her. Chris, as best she could, returned the kiss and quickly pushed past him, inside the apartment.
"That smells delicious in here already." She stated.
"Yeah, your favorite Chris." He said proudly and came closer. "After that I thought we could have our missed bath." He held her by her waist and looked deep into her eyes.
"Yes, I'd love to. I can't wait." Chris had to play along to a point. "Let's eat." It tasted really good, Chris had to admit, but that didn't change the fact that Clark was criminal.

Clark was in the kitchen putting the dishes in the dishwasher. Chris was sitting on the sofa looking at the TV paper. Clearing her throat, she signaled to Street that now was the time to call. Chris had her ears all over the place now and the tension was rising inside her every second. Where was that damn phone? From a distance, it had to be coming from the bedroom, she heard a ringing. That had to be it and Chris followed the sound. Once again, she made sure Clark was really busy. Through the clatter of dishes, he didn't hear the ringing. This was Chris's chance. She quickly arrived in the bedroom and found the phone in the drawer of his nightstand.
"Street I got it. It worked." She whispered, secretly rejoicing and taking a picture of the caller ID and messages. Just as she was about to take the phone and plug it in a voice sounded behind her.
"Babe what are you doing with my phone?" Clark's voice was quite stern and loud. "Are you spying on me?" Slowly, he approached her.
"No, where are you thinking. I heard it ringing and thought it might be important. I called out for you, but you didn't hear anything. By the time I got here, though, it had stopped." Chris had to swallow for a moment, her heart pounding in her throat.
"Give that back right now. You're never going back on that. Do you understand me?" Clark was really angry.
"Sorry, if I'd known how much this was going to upset you, I wouldn't have done it." Actually, Chris wanted to give him a piece of her mind, but she had to pull herself together, because otherwise there might be a recoil and Chris couldn't risk that. Now she had been driven into a corner and had to come up with something. So she let her feminine charms play...
