He thought the envelope was junk mail when he brought it in. The recipient address was handwritten but the return address was not a person but a business. The Zootopia Academy of Fine Arts, addressed to Judith Hopps, at her old apartment and redirected to their house. Whoever sent this was either ignoring or didn't know that she'd gotten married. They had just got home from work, so he took off his suit and hung it from the coat rack. Judy was sitting on the couch relaxing, the rabbit was grateful her toddler fox son was still napping, she was exhausted from the day. Being the dutiful husband and model cop he had become over the last few years, Nicholas Wilde decided against opening it, in spite of his curiosity and instead handed it to his wife upon entering the home.
"It's a letter from my ex-girlfriend…!" Judy announced in surprise.
"Oh…" he replied but turned back to her in surprise, "Wait what…!?"
"Yeah, didn't I-...?" she started but interrupted herself, "No, I didn't… I'm sorry Nick, I meant to tell you sooner, I was bi-curious during high school…"
"Was this before or after the pin-striped jackass?" he asked.
"After…" she growled. Then punched him in the arm to show her displeasure. "Honestly, stop bringing him up! Do you want me bringing up that skunk every five minutes?" she lectured.
"I don't bring him up every five minutes but I get your point… I'm sorry, honey-bunny… So, what did your ex have to say to you?" he relented.
"She's in town, running an exhibit of her artwork at a local studio and she wants me to attend… She said I can bring a few guests… I guess we can make a family outing of it…" she replied.
"You want to introduce me and Stinky to your ex-girlfriend… Are you sure that's wise?" he asked.
"You'll like Nelly, she's sweet… Odd but sweet…" Judy laughed.
"How odd are we talking…?" Nick asked.
"On a scale of one to ten, she's an eleven…" she chuckled.
"Great…" Nick replied sarcastically.
"Oh honey, just meet her… You'll like her, trust me… Though, it looks like she doesn't know I got married… She used my maiden name in her letter…" Judy mused.
"If she doesn't know does that mean she'll try to get back with you?" he asked.
"Possibly… But unlike that moron, she'll back off that as soon as she realizes that I'm spoken for…" she replied.
"Alright Carrots, alright… You convinced me… I'll meet her… And I guess we can bring Stinky along…" he laughed.
"Ok, so what is Nelly? Another bunny?" he asks.
"She's an antelope jackrabbit…" she answers.
"Well, she can't be that much more of an oddball than Cherry…" he laughs.

The next day was a Saturday so it was off to the fine arts museum. For the first half an hour Nick and Judy wandered the gallery pushing the stroller that a 1-year-old toddler sat in. Judy almost regretted bringing Luke, he had nearly escaped his stroller 18 times already. And she was keeping count. Nick kept an eye on the clever rambunctious toddler while Judy scanned the area. Finally, a new voice caught her attention when they sat down at a bench.
"Oi! Ahí está ella…!" the voice called.
"Nelly!" Judy called back.

Sure enough, when Nick looked, a light brown rabbit approached.
"Hey girl! Que pasa!" the new face exclaimed, "Quién es éste?"
"Right, introductions… Nelly, this is my husband Nick and in the carriage is our son Luke…" Judy introduced, "Nick, this is my ex-girlfriend Antonella Lebrílope, everyone calls her Nelly for short…"
"Encantada de conocerte," Nick replied, extending a paw.
"Back atcha…" she replies cheerfully. Shaking his paw enthusiastically.
"Didn't know you was married… When'd that happen?" Nelly asks.
"Around September last year…" Judy replied.
"Zorro, huh? Musta' drove su papi loco, ya?" she laughed.
"Not really, daddy was fine with it… He's mellowed out, quite a bit…" the rabbit replied.
"How 'bout you, vato… Uh Nick was it…?" she asks, turning her attention to him.
"I'm Judy's partner on the force… They might change that, given the wedding though… As for my family… My oldest brother is dating Jane, my older brother married a mink, and my older sister married a wolf… So weirdness is kinda' common in my family…" Nick laughs.

Nick pulled his son out of the stroller and held him up so Nelly could see him.
"And this is Luke, or as I like to call him, 'Stinky'..." Nick laughs. Before almost gagging. "And I need to find a bathroom before you find out why…" he continues.
"Down the hall, first door on the left, can't miss it…" Nelly tells him.

Before Nick can fully run off, Judy whistles to him and tosses the diaper bag.
"Don't let him out of your sight, Nick… He will wander off!" she lectures.
"Yeah, I know…" he calls back.

At that Nick runs off with his son.
"Family seemed the last thing on your mind when we left school, chica… Qué cambió?" Nelly asked.
"Honestly, I didn't plan on any of this… I met Nick my first day on the job and things just happened… It's a long story, Nelly… As for Luke, he wasn't planned, but once we knew I was gonna' have him we decided to keep him…" Judy reminisced. "It's not easy raising a son and a husband but I wouldn't trade it for anything…" she half-joked.

She noticed the look on Nelly's face.
"I'm sorry, Nelly… I know you probably wanted to get back together but-..." Judy started.
"No hay problema, chica… I just wanna' know two things… Es bueno contigo? And… Es bueno en la cama?" she replied.
"Nelly!" Judy exclaimed embarrassed.
"Hey, I have to know mi amiga is taken care of… In more ways than one…" Nelly replied in a laugh.
"To answer both questions, yes… Nick is amazing… He truly loves me, Nelly, and it makes me happy to know he's always there for me…" Judy explained.
"I'm glad to know he makes you happy, chica… I think we both knew from the comienzo that things wouldn't work between us… So, I'm agradecida that you found someone you can love and depend on…" the jackrabbit sighed.
"So… How's your brother doing these days… I know I jumped the gun when I first met him… He isn't still sore about that, is he…?" Judy asked.
"Alejandro? Nah, he's cool about it… Never held it against ya'... Just kinda' bruised his ego he got his culo beat by a dama…" Nelly laughed.
"Nelly, do me a favor…" Judy began.
"Y'know I'd do almost anything for ya', chica," the jackalope replied.
"Give Nick a chance… Be nice to him and get to know him, he's really sweet and a really big goofball… He just has a bit of an ego…" Judy explained.
"He sounds like a great guy… If it'll make you happy, I'll get to know him…" she replied.
"Thanks… I know it sounds cold of me, but if you two can't get along we may end up having to maintain a long-distance friendship…" Judy explained.
"Oh I getcha', you want me to get along with him so we can still be amigas… Girl, I'll always be your friend… If Nick don't like me or I don't like him, I'm sure we can agree to tolerate each other for your sake…" Nelly replied.
"I hope it doesn't come to that either, I hope you'll be able to see the great guy Nick has shown me that he really is…" Judy stated.
"I hope so too, chica, for your sake…" she sighed.

At that, Nick returned from the bathroom with a freshly changed Luke.
"Sorry 'bout how long that took, ladies… Stinky here did not make changing him easy…" Nick laughed.
"Oh hey Nick, I was just tellin' Judy 'bout some stuff around here you might like… Don't think she'd be interested though an' I don't think the pequento vato should see this stuff…" Nelly stated.
"Sounds interesting… Carrots, mind watching Stinky for a while…?" he asked.
"I guess I can…" she sighed. Knowing her toddler son's antics when it came to her watching him.
"Just remember the keys trick if he gets out of hand…" he reminded her.

A while away from Judy, just around a corner, Nelly started showing Nick around the museum but it quickly became apparent to the fox that artwork was not why he was dragged away from his wife and son.
"I think we're far enough away from Judy and Luke…" he stated.
"Figured me out huh…? Lemme' be frank with ya…" she began.
"Ok Frank…" he chuckled.
"That was terrible…" she snickered.
"Got you to laugh…" he replied.
"Only at how bad it is…" she returned.
"Go ahead… I'm listening…" he stated.
"This was Judy's idea… She wants us to get to know each other…" she sighed.
"Yeah that sounds like her… Probably worried we'll end up being hostile to each other…" he replied.
"Y'do know her pretty well…" Nelly stated.
"She is my wife… We dated for a year and a half before I finally got the nerve to ask her to be my wife… I love her with my whole heart… Listen, Nelly, can I call ya' Nelly?" he began.
"You're Judy's guy, long as you an' her are good together, you can call me watcha' want…" she answered.
"If it ends up that you and me can't get along at all, I hope we can at least agree to tolerate each other for Judy's sake… Sound reasonable?" he asked.
"I was gonna' ask the same thing…" she laughed.
"I'm serious though, I don't want her losing any lifelong friends on my account…" he replied.
"So am I… I don't wanna' be the reason you an' her start havin' marriage problems…" she asserted.

At that, a familiar face noticed them and came up and hugged Nick without thinking.
"Hey Nick!" the chipper white vixen greeted.
"Hi Cherry…" he stated.
"Wait, that's not Judy… Who is this?" she asked.
"This is Nelly… She's… an old friend of Judy's…" Nick introduced.

Nelly cocked an eyebrow at Nick, muttered something in Spanish and dragged Nick back to Judy in a huff.
"Judy, your fox is seein' someone else!" Nelly proclaimed loudly.
"I've been trying to explain to you that's not what's going on!" Nick defended.
"I saw that la perra put her arms around you! What am I supposed to think of that!?" she growled.
"Nelly, calm down… Who was it that put her arms around Nick?" Judy asked.
"Cherry happens to be here and greeted me the way Cherry usually does… Nelly got the wrong idea…" Nick explained.
"Cherry? Cherry Foxglove?" Judy asked. Then let out a sigh before turning her attention to Nelly. "Nelly, it's ok… Cherry is an old friend of Nick's, they grew up together, they're practically siblings…" she coaxed.
Gradually, Nelly calmed down at Judy's coaxing. "Seriously? An' you've known about her for a while?" Nelly asked.
"Yes, her and her sisters… Cherry is Gideon's girlfriend… You remember Gideon, right…?" Judy continued.
"How could I forget that punta!" she growled.
"Easy, Gideon's changed a lot… He's a nice guy now…" Judy continued to coax.
"Something I should know…?" Nick asked.
"When I was nine, Gideon left a scratch-mark on my cheek… He was a bully back then… Him and his friend Travis… But well, you've seen how Gideon is these days, Nick…" Judy explained.
"Maybe it's because he was scared of Danny but he never acted like a bully around me or my siblings…" Nick pondered.
"Por qué es eso?" Nelly asked, "Wait, you knew Gideon growin' up?"
"Firstly, when I was a kit, my oldest brother, Danny was a tad bit overprotective… Secondly, yes, Gideon Grey is my cousin…" Nick answered.

"Heh, small world, eh chica?" Nelly laughed, turning to Judy.

Judy smiled back but said nothing as she held her son.

"Mind if I hold the little vato?" Nelly asked.

"Nick?" Judy asked.

"We're both right here and she's an old friend of yours…" he replied.

Judy passed Luke to Nelly.
"Careful Nelly, he can be a little monster sometimes… He'll go right for your ears when you aren't paying attention…" Nick laughed.

Nelly scoffed at the idea until Luke grabbed her ear and pulled on it while she was looking away. She let out a yelp both out of surprise and out of pain. Nick laughed at that and took Luke from her and got him to let go of her.
"I warned ya'..." he laughed.
"Li'l stinker…" she chuckled.
