Chapter 2
The drive to Rachel's house had been quiet. Not awkward but not exactly comfortable either. Quinn had been cornered by Puck on her way to her locker and he had told her that he wanted to be with her and be a good dad to their baby. She couldn't handle it and had told him that she wanted to do it alone. He seemed crushed. She knew he genuinely cared for the baby in his own way and wanted to be better than his own dad, but she didn't think they'd ever have much between them. They didn't really have much in the first place. Quinn had just been insecure and drunk when she lost her virginity to Puckerman, she never really liked him.
On top of that, they'd had to drive to Rachel's via Finn's. Rachel had graciously taken on the task of going into Finn's house to collect her things so that she didn't have to face his wrath a second time and she was silently thankful. It wasn't lost on her how Finn's face fell when he realised that she was there for Quinn and not him. Rachel had been quick and efficient, in and out within ten minutes with all of Quinn's belongings. She didn't have a lot honestly, just a wheelie suitcase and a cheerios duffel bag. It was kind of sad, really.
She didn't know why, but when they pulled up outside of Rachel's house, Quinn was nervous. After all, she had spent the past year and a half being absolutely awful to the girl and she didn't know how much her dads knew. Maybe they didn't even want her there. She began to fidget with her fingers and was surprised when a small, soft hand covered her own. But she didn't pull away. She was actually sort of comforted by the gentle touch. She looked down at their hands and then to Rachel, sort of tilting her head in a silent question. Somehow, Rachel just got her. "My dads are away for the weekend for a funeral… a great uncle or something. I didn't want to go with sectionals only days away and besides, I've never met the guy. I asked them permission to have you over, of course and they said it's absolutely fine. They trust me.
As Rachel got out of the car, Quinn let out a breath she didn't realise she'd been holding. She'd be alone in the house with Rachel… which didn't sound amazing. But at least she'd not be treading on thin ice with her dads around. She was surprised when Rachel opened up the passenger door for her to hop out, already with her bags in hand. It was funny because Rachel… well Rachel was tiny and she looked sort of like a pack mule. "I can take those," Quinn offered as she got out of the car but Rachel refused. "Quinn, I want you to unwind and relax. It has been a horrible day for you, no thanks to me. Let me carry these in for you.
Rachel did just that. She carried Quinn's stuff in and all the way up to the guest bedroom. "I hope it's sufficient." Rachel said nervously. The house was completely quiet around them. She'd never really experienced alone time with Quinn Fabray and it was making her palms sweaty and her heart beat faster. Was that fear? Perhaps. But Quinn wasn't the scary HBIC that Quinn was used to. Quiet the opposite. Quinn took a few steps in the room. It was a decent size, with nice neutral tones and indeed, a bed that the blonde wanted to immediately climb in. "It's great. Thank you, Rachel." She stood awkwardly for a couple of moments before Rachel got the message. She needed some time to herself.
"Um, I'll leave you to settle in." Rachel smiled before leaving the room and closing the door behind her. She sighed and headed into her room. She didn't really feel up to much practice tonight. Mercedes was singing the solo at sectionals anyway and so there wasn't too much on the line. She threw on some shorts and a Wicked t-shirt before spending some time mindlessly scrolling on MySpace. The hate comments had decreased significantly since Quinn got pregnant. Another sigh. She hoped she was doing the right thing.
After about an hour, there was no sign of Quinn coming out of the guest room any time soon. Surely she was starving? Rachel certainly was but outside of her "I'm Sorry" cookies, she wasn't much of a chef. And she didn't think a simple salad seemed appropriate for a pregnant girl who's life just fell apart around her. So Rachel took the liberty of ordering in some pizzas. A vegan one for herself and one with extra bacon for Quinn. She'd noticed the girl's habit of eating bacon since being with child and despite not eating it herself for several reasons, she was more than happy to fulfil Quinn's cravings for her while she was her guest. She settled on the sofa, flicking through the channels as she waited for their dinner to arrive
About half an hour later, Quinn was woken up by the sound of the doorbell. She must have fallen asleep once she changed into some sweats. Who could blame her? Growing a human was exhausting. And that human was hungry. She hated that she'd have to leave her safe little bubble of the guest room, but she couldn't starve. She was hoping to maybe head downstairs, grab some chips or something and stay out of Rachel's way. She wasn't expected to be greeted with the scent of sizzling bacon and melted cheese. She was practically drooling as she came down the stairs - which didn't go unnoticed by Rachel./span/p
The brunette had a little smirk on her lips as she opened up the pizza box when Quinn entered the room, "Thought you might be hungry?" She was almost teasing. Maybe that was a bit too brave of her. She wasn't really sure if they were friends, just because Quinn was staying with her. The blonde just nodded and gratefully received the box that was handed to her. "Bacon? How did you know?" she questioned, her eyebrow raising in that HBIC way that could part seas of people. Rachel just shrugged. "I'm very observant, Quinn." She grabbed her own box of vegan pizza and headed back to the living room, "Would you like to watch a movie whilst we eat? By all means, you can go back to your room. I just thought it might be nice to have a distraction. I'll even let you choose." Rachel sat down, setting her pizza box on the coffee table and looking at Quinn with hopeful big, brown eyes. Why did Quinn feel like she couldn't say no? She rolled her eyes, but not in a particularly mean why. "Fine, Berry. We can watch a movie." she shrugged before picking up the case to My Fair Lady. Rachel cocked a brow and Quinn knew she was perhaps shocked and impressed that she'd chosen a musical. "I like Audrey Hepburn, and it's a classic."the blonde quickly defended before popping the disc in and taking a seat on the sofa next to Rachel.
"You are full of surprises, Quinn Fabray…" Rachel chuckled before settling in for an evening of pizza and a musical. Quinn simply rolled her eyes, a hint of a smile tugging at her lips, and followed suit, thankful to feel somewhat comfortable for the first time in weeks.
