Author's Notes; Semi-mythological Egyptian AU. All Plot and setup. Implied starts of Shounen Ai at the end. As it happens, while I'm writing this, one of my 4 current ideas, I'm also taking an online course on Egyptian Pharaohs..Literally, the only reason I know of the Bent, Steppe, and Red pyramids is because at the time of uploading this, I'm already 2 lectures into the course..Because of that, the areas/pyramids appearing in this fic may likely expand to Giza and any others..For now, please enjoy..

Sand of the desert blew in the wind as a young nearly nude boy slowly roamed through. He spied the proto-pyramids of his ancestors ahead. His green eyes could make out the more famous pyramids beyond. He had been abandoned and robbed of everything, clothes included, left with an old loincloth around his rear he had found along the way. It was ragged and uncomfortable, but it was better than nothing. A slight breeze ruffled his short brown hair as he slowly wandered towards the pyramids.

The boy knew the history of the three proto-pyramids, knowing the Steppe and Bent pyramids weren't very safe, so he went towards the Red pyramid quietly. He could see a large oasis not far from it with plenty of vegetation and water. He was content knowing that he would at least have a source of food and water.

He quietly walked into the Red pyramid, picking up a torch so he could see. He looked around for an open room so he could rest and mull over all that has transpired upon him. He was able to find a room that was already lit up, the burial chamber of the pharaoh Sneferu. He looked at the tomb as he went into the chamber, looking around and sitting near the tomb. He always wondered how his ancestors survived in the desert, despite its heat.

As the boy mulled over his recent losses and the ways of his ancestors, he could faintly make out the sound of footsteps coming nearby. His gaze went to the open doorway, watching nervously as the footsteps drew closer. After a while, he could make out two glows of blue before him. A voice came, though strange and ethereal, "Who goes there?". The boy quickly stood up, backing away from the glows of blue. "More researchers? I told you this place is forbidden. Leave at once!" The voice came again. The boy slowly worked the nerve to talk, unsure what he was up against. "I-I'm not a researcher...I-I'm..a-a-abandoned...A rogue...from a not too distant city nearby..." The voice took a moment to respond. "A rogue, you say..? Not so distant city..? You must be a native then..You look rather like one.." The boy nodded. "A-Are you a native too? A-A-Are you lost..?" The voice paused again. "I cannot call myself a native of this land, though I have been here for many years, guarding these ancient pyramids from trespassers, robbers, and even the researchers camped some distance away.." The boy tilted his head. "Why the researchers? They, like all of us, want to know more about these ancient structures. I can't help but feel that your voice is strange. Forgive me for asking, but am I addressing another human being?" A faint chuckle could be heard before the voice answered. "It is simply my orders. I realize that they are curious about these structures as they are not akin to those I have seen rise overtime, though all the same, in a way, it also makes the researchers themselves a danger to the structures. My orders are to protect and patrol the pyramids. Simple as that, meaning all trespassers must be cleared out. I am the only one allowed in these pyramids. And no, I am not a human like you. You speak with a devil." The boy was now very scared. "A-A devil? As in..a demon? I-I-I'll go swiftly then if you won't hurt me." The voice agreed. "So be it. If you must linger, take residence in yon oasis. It will nurture you well until you can be on your way again."

The boy scrambled out of the pyramid in a panic and ran to the oasis, immediately taking shelter in the oasis and sitting in the shade. He looked back behind him, making sure the devil hadn't followed. He was relieved that he hadn't. The boy tried to calm his mind in the shade and by the water, picking some nearby figs and dates for later. He found himself wondering what the demon looked like, kicking himself for not asking him to go into the light for a better view. All the boy had seen was two orbs of blue, assuming that those were the demon's eyes.

Upon sunset, the boy finally saw the demon leave the Red pyramid. The boy was surprised at the sight. The demon indeed had blue eyes. The demon also had a long blood red mane held in a ponytail and a blood red fringe near his eyes. His face seemed to bear some kind of black marks, starting around his eyes. The boy could make out black on the demon's arms and legs. The black of the demon's legs was partly blocked by a long black loincloth on his hips. The demon's build seemed thin but muscular and he carried a spear in his left hand as he made his way to the Steppe pyramid and its temple and shrine. 'Wow..this demon..he's beautiful..Why was he ordered to guard the pyramids? How long has he been here? How can I observe him better? There's just..something alluring..about him..' These thoughts buzzed in the boy's head as the demon slowly disappeared from the area of the Red pyramid. He could no longer think of all the losses he'd gone through in the span of only a few hours earlier in the day. He almost didn't care now. If the oasis could support him, then his new goal was to try and get close to the demonic guard.
