They sat in their kitchen, rereading the letter. Hours had passed since it had first arrived. Hermione was more calm now, although George was not. He read the letter again.

"George, it's not that bad really, I mean it's not what we were planning… but-" She tried but he cut her off, holding the piece of paper up.

"Hermione, if we don't get married before it's been a year since we first used the spell, our magic will be gone! Poof! That's what St Mungos says" He shouted and Hermione stepped back, shocked by his outburst. His eyes widened and he tried to take it back.

"I'm sorry… I just- will we ever get a chance to do something our way?" He whispered, running his hand down the front of his face. Hermione sighed, looking away from him.

"Well I don't know what you want me to say" She said, a frown on her face. She heard him sigh and she looked back at him. His head was resting on his hands, a sad look in his eyes.

"You know your mother wouldn't be upset over a quick wedding. I wanted a simple one anyway" She said, her voice tight. His eyes met hers.

"We have a month, maybe more to get everything ready" He said and she chuckled.

"That's more time than Charlie gave her" George's head rose and he gave her a small smile.

"I suppose that's true…" He said and Hermione crossed the room, sliding into his lap. His eyes widened in surprise. She wrapped her arms around his neck, dipping down to place a sweet kiss on his cheek.

"Darling, I'd marry you anywhere at any time. I'd marry you right now if you wanted to" She said seriously and his eyes widened, in surprise.

"Really?" He asked, and she nodded standing up.

"Why don't we? We have to rush anyway… There's no way around that. At least this will be something we chose to do, together" She said suddenly, grabbing his hand. He sucked in a breath with surprise.

"Mum would kill us" He chuckled, but the look in his eye told her he wasn't against the idea. Hermione grabbed his hand.

"George, we could go to the ministry right now! It's only… it's only eight, I know Kingsley likes to stay late" She said in a rushed tone, checking her watch. Excitement started to show on George's face and Hermione smiled widely.

"Just the two of us?" He asked and she chuckled with a nod.

"Do wizard marriages need witnesses?" Hermione asked suddenly, and George shook his head.

"No, the minister will be there, that's all we'll need" He said and she let out a tinkling laugh. She grabbed his hand, dragging him up the stairs to their room.

"I want to change quickly, into something nicer" She said, slipping into the closet. He laughed, and the air around them was filled with excitement. Hermione stepped out of the closet, in a mid length off white sundress. It had thin straps and was covered in little white flowers, much like all the dresses she owned. George smiled at her, love shining in his eyes.

"I can't believe we are about to do this" He said with a chuckle, and Hermione gave him a reassuring smile.

"Not everyone needs a big fancy wedding, and we both know I certainly don't. Not with my parents not being able to attend. I only need you" She pressed a kiss to his lips quickly.

They stepped out of the fireplace, into the ministry building. They hadn't flooed right into the minister's office, instead the Auror's office. The minister's office was a floor above, and they quickly made their way to elevators. Hermione gave his hand a squeeze, tugging him along. She was quite happy to be doing it this way, less dramatics, and they wouldn't be stealing Ginny's thunder. They exited the elevator, and stepped into the small room that led to the minister's office. A woman sat at the desk, writing on pieces of parchment. Hermione released George's hand and stepped towards the desk, resting on it slightly. The older witch looked up from beneath her round glasses, giving Hermione a curious stare.

"Can I help you? You know the time, don't you dears?" She asked, a frown on her face. Hermione chuckled nervously.

"Well yes, you see we're friend's of the minister and were hoping to see him for a moment" Hermione asked, her voice polite. The older witch looked skeptical before standing.

"What is your name? I will go see if he has a moment. It is late though so I doubt he does" She huffed. Hermione smiled awkwardly.

"Hermione Granger, miss" Hermione said and the witch nodded, heading to the double doors that were Kingsley Shacklebelt's office. She knocked quietly, before entering. Hermione and George looked at each other, awkwardly.

"Still sure you want to do this?" She asked him sweetly and he nodded seriously.

"Of course I am. I can't wait for you to be Mrs Weasley" He winked and she blushed, taking his hand again.

"I wouldn't want to wait anyway, not now that I know your magic is at stake" He said seriously, and she nodded, agreeing. The receptionist stepped back into the room, a tense look on her face.

"He'll see you now" She said, gesturing to the door before sitting down again. Hermione held up her hand to contain the chuckle. She didn't think that the other witch was pleased with them. Her eyes met George's and he seemed to agree. They entered the large room, eyes locking on the familiar face that was sitting at his desk. He rose gracefully, walking down towards them.

"Hermione Granger, it's a pleasure to see you again. You as well Mr Weasley" He said with a wide grin. Hermione returned it, letting him guide them to the seats in front of his desk. Once they were all settled, he gave them a curious look.

"What can I help you both with at this late hour?" He asked and Hermione pulled George's hand into her lap.

"Well Sir, you see, it's quite a long story as to why, and we'd be happy to tell you if you were interested, but we've come tonight to see if maybe you'd marry us" She rushed out, flustered. George squeezed her hand with a chuckle. Kingsley's eyes widened in surprise.

"I'd love to hear the story, if you don't mind" He said seriously, and Hermione nodded, diving into their year long issue with the magic bond. She told him of how she didn't even know the spell really when she first used it, and then everything that happened after.

"So you see Sir, if we don't get married soon, we'll lose our magical abilities" She explained and his eyes were wide with shock. He was leaning back in his chair, as he thought about the story.

"That is like nothing I've heard from before. It amazes me how well you two managed it so far! Are you certain you don't want to wait until your families can be with you?" He asked, sounding unsure. Hermione rubbed her ring awkwardly.

"My parents actually… well after the war…" Hermione said Kingsley nodded with a sad smile.

"Right, well step this way then, we will do it over here" He stood, leading them towards the bookcase. Hermione squeezed George's hand, meeting his eyes with her excited ones. They stood facing each other, as Kingsley left the room to grab the necessities to marry them.

"Are you ready?" She whispered and his eyes were filled with love.

"More than I've ever been" He said, pressing her hand to his lips. Kingsley returned, holding a book and a pair of rings. He stood before them, addressing each.

"I'll ask again before we get started, are you both certain?" They both nodded, shy smiles on their faces.

"I should warn you though Kingsley, I'm not sure how the spell will react" Hermione said suddenly, as Kingsley raised his wand. He nodded, and then continued. His voice boomed around them as he said several spells, reciting the wedding testimonies. Hermione and George listened intently, as Kingsley waved his wand around their entwined hands. At first there was a bright gold glow that wrapped around their wrists, as if it was tying them together. Hermione sucked in a breath in amazement, her hands tingling with magic.

"This last bit of magic will be what will do it I think, it's the binding magic that ties the partners together at the soul" Kingsley said nervously and they nodded, giving him the look to go ahead and continue. He waved his wand one more time, and Hermione heard him say the binding spell quietly. She gasped, as suddenly her magic surged through her. Her eyes met George's in panic. He looked down at their hands, as purple streamed out of their fingers, and then exploded from their chests. The world froze and it was as if the two were lifted from the ground. Purple enveloped them, as it left their bodies. Hermione heard herself screaming through the intensity, her eyes forced shut. She felt like something was wrong, she felt weak.

"George!" She said, trying to open her eyes to see him. She heard him groan in pain. She was fading, and quickly. She felt George's hand slip from hers, and Kingsley shouting somewhere beside her. The world faded out quickly, as Hermione fell to the ground.

The pounding in her head woke her up. Her brain felt foggy, she could barely remember anything. Hermione sat up, pushing the heels of her hands into her eyes. She groaned as she opened them, recognizing the room immediately. She glanced around the white hospital room, holding her head. Her hand reached around for the one she had been used to holding and froze, as she realized she was alone in the room. She looked around in panic, pushing the nurse button over and over. A nurse flew into the room, her eyes wide.

"George, where's George?" Hermione shouted, trying to slip out of the bed. The nurse rushed over, pushing her back down.

"Miss Granger, please stay in bed-" The nurse started to say but Hermione cut her off.

"It's Weasley, we're married, now where is he?" She huffed, folding her arms in anger. The nurse quickly apologized, pulling up Hermione's vitals.

"Please Mrs Weasley, I need to check your vitals. Mr Weasley is in the next room" The nurse said, pushing Hermione down again as she tried to get out of bed.

"I need to see him!" Hermione said roughly and the nurse raised her wand.

"Mrs Weasley, please don't make me restrain you" She hissed and Hermione glared, laying back down with a huff. The nurse scanned through the magical screen, and her face rose in surprise.

"Well your magic looks fine, better than fine really" She said and Hermione pushed off the bed, standing up. She looked down, noticing she was in a hospital gown. Before she could ask for her clothes she heard shouting in the hall. Her door flew open, revealing George in a similar state. His eyes were wild, as he looked around her room, before landing on her.

"Hermione!" He yelled, running over to her. She slipped into his open arms, relief flooding her chest. Another nurse ran into the room.

"Mr Weasley please! We need to check your vitals" They shouted, and Hermione shot both nurses a fiery glare, and they fled the room. She stepped back, taking his face in her hands, concern swimming in her brown eyes.

"Are you okay? I can't remember what happened" She whispered, and he nodded, a smile filling his face.

"I'm alright, love, are you?" It was his turn to look at her with concern. She nodded, tugging him to sit on her bed.

"It worked George, my magic was back to normal, I saw it in the chart" She said and his eyes widened. He wrapped his arm around her shoulder.

"We need to see if Kingsley finished the ceremony. Neither of us are wearing a ring" He said, glancing down at their hands. As Hermione was nodding, the door opened again. A different nurse stepped into the room, followed by most of the Weasleys and Harry. Molly rushed over, taking them both in her arms. She sniffled and Hermione could tell she had been crying.

"What happened to you two?" She asked desperately. George rubbed the back of his neck, then took his mother's hand.

"Well you're not going to like it Mum, but well… we got married. We found out some more information on our bond and we didn't really have a choice…" He tried to explain, but Molly's anger just seemed to grow. Hermione quickly jumped in.

"We found out if we didn't get married our magic would fade. We would essentially become muggles. We went to Kingsley and he married us, and the wedding magic did just as it was supposed to. We fainted as the magic was drawn out of us" Hermione explained and Molly nodded, her arms now crossed.

"Why couldn't you have told us so we could have been there?" She huffed and Hermione sighed, feeling awkward.

"We just wanted it to be us, I'm sorry Molly, I hope you can forgive us" She said with a sad voice. Before Molly could complain more, Ginny rushed over, pulling Hermione into a hug.

"Hermione, you have to stop scaring me like this!" She chided and Hermione felt herself smile with embarrassment.

"I didn't plan for this, Ginny" Hermione teased and the redhead laughed. Harry came over to hug her quickly, followed by the rest of the family. Hermione noticed a certain person missing.

"So Ron didn't want to come?" She frowned, realizing her friend wasn't really her friend anymore. Harry sighed, taking her hand.

"He went back to Italy with Anna, we did owl him, but he never replied…" Harry sighed. Hermione shook her head, forcing a smile on her face.

"No it's alright. I'm not even surprised anymore" She vowed not to care what Ron Weasley did or didn't do from that moment on. She had enough friends, and he wasn't worth the hassle.

"We did it, we're finally free" George said, cutting off all the conversation. The family nodded, smiles filling everyone's faces.

"Well as far as we know, Mr Weasley. We still have some tests to run" The nurse cut in, and Hermione huffed in annoyance. The family watched as the nurse ran tests on them, all turning out positive. After an hour, Hermione stood up.

"Can we leave yet?" George chuckled at her impatience, but the nurse nodded with a frown. The nurse left the room without another word. The family said a quick goodbye, making them promise to come over for dinner on the weekend. Molly hugged then extra tight before exiting the room, muttering about how much she hated the hospital. Hermione chuckled, turning back to George.

"Let's go home" She took his outstretched hand, happiness filling her body.

As they laid in bed that night, staring at each other in the dark, Hermione knew that after everything, this was exactly where she was meant to be. In the arms of the silliest, sweetest, most caring Weasley. She was finally a part of the family she had always wanted to call her own, and in spite of all the issues with Ron, she knew she was truly happy. Her hand reached out, brushing George's hair out of his eyes. His blue eyes gazed at her softly, his face filled with love.

"I know we'll have to go back for more tests, and get our rings from Kingsley, but in this moment, I really can't believe it's over. We're free and I'm Mrs Weasley" Hermione whispered into the darkness. George chuckled, tugging her closer. He rose, so his face was hovering above hers.

"Darling, this is just the beginning of a new adventure" He said softly, and then smirked, dipping down to press a soft kiss to her lips. As it intensified, she let out a quiet moan. His hands danced across her bare skin.

"A new adventure, after we make our marriage official?" She whispered, breathless. Her eyes were dark and he groaned, kissing her again hard.

"You're mine, forever" He whispered, trailing kisses down her neck. His hands slipped below her bellybutton and she let out a louder moan.

"Forever" She moaned.

And they did live, happily ever after.
