CHAPTER 11
They all have had dinner. DJ was asleep. Sam thought it was the right time to talk to Dean. He made his way to his brother.
"Dean , I wanted to talk to you." He said sitting next to Dean on the couch.
"I am listening." Dean replied.
"I am ready to work for you." Sam said. He had really thought about it all day. At the end he had made this decision. He still felt a little as if Dean was doing him a favour but he wanted to give it a shot.
"Correction there , you would be working with me and not for me. I want to make you a partner."
Dean said pointing his finger in Sam's face to emphasize his point.
"But how this will work , Dean ?. I mean , you live in South Dakota and thats atleast 10 hours from here."
"Thats why I want you and DJ to come live with me." His brother said casually but Sam could see it in Dean's eyes that Dean was nervous of his reaction to that.
"What ?". Sam was confused. That would mean he was really imposing himself and his son on his brother. And thats not gonna happen.
"Listen, the house that I live in is not mine. It was Dad's. It was our grandfather's actually and he passed it on to Dad who passed it on to us. So , it is mine as much as it is yours. And if you have a fine house out there , then why are you paying rent." Dean explained.
"What ?"
"Man , speak something else too. Your mind stuck on 'what' or something."
"But , dad never said anything about it. And if we had a house then why we spent our entire childhood living from one motel to another."
Sam was really confused. Being confused was becoming his default expression and he didn't like it. He had always thought that since their last house was burnt and they didn't have enough money to buy a new house or rent an apartment , they live in motels. But if they had a nice house , why couldn't they just stay in it. Its not like Dad was worried about leaving them alone because the man left them alone countless times and in different motel rooms all across the country. And living in a house was certainly more safe than living in motel rooms , didn't it ?
"You know we had to move to whatever town Dad was hunting in. To be out of the demon radar , he didn't want us staying at one place." Well that explained it.
" But Sam when we were darn close to that demon. Dad made a stop at South Dakota and showed me that house , he was talking about settling down and maybe opening a garage that me and him could manage together."
Dean remembered that clearly as if it was yesterday. John Winchester talking about settling down , you don't forget that. His eyes were getting dewy. He missed his father. His dad wasn't father of the year but he was his dad and that was enough for him.
His dad , the great John Winchester wanted to settle down. Sam could only say one word to that , "Unbelievable."
"Right , unbelievable. So ?"
"I don't know. I have been living here for a long time. I.." what Sam ?. Sam was not sure what to say. His vocabulary was like a 3 year old at the moment.
"Whats stopping you here ?. You can save the rent. Besides , the garage is attached to the house. So me and you can look after the kid while we work. The kid can have a backyard to play too. You have to decide Sam. I have to leave in one or two days. If you come , I can stay to help you pack and its only ten days till Christmas we can make sure the kid had a real Christmas at his new home."
Sam thought about that. After , Jessica nothing is stopping him from leaving this place. She wanted to stay close to her parents who live here but since her death they had maintained no contact with him or his son. If he works with Dean and handle his accounts he had to move to South Dakota and its atleast 10 hour drive from here. He also wanted to live with his brother and he no more would have to worry about paying rent and daycare. He always wanted a house with a backyard too so his kid could play. He had to sold his house after his wife's death. And that was really painful.
"Sammy ?" Sam realised Dean was looking at him worriedly and was waiting for his answer. He must have zoned out a little.
He took a deep breath and said , "Yes."
"Really ?. You are serious , right ?" Dean was looking like a little kid on Christmas and Sam smiled and again said "Yes" . He even nodded his head to make a point that he was completely serious.
"Awesome." Dean clapped him way too hard on his shoulder and Sam yelped rubbing his poor limb. He was sure that there would be red marks in the shape of his brother's hand.
"Jerk"
"Bitch" came his brother's expected reply.
Dean was happy no scratch that he was the happiest man at this moment. They would live together and be a family. It didn't mean that they weren't family when they were living apart but according to him family should always live together , stay together and in short do everything 'together'. If Sam hadn't agreed he would have to leave and this time for real and it would really suck to leave his brother and nephew. He had became real attached to the kid and he would have missed his little brother too and no matter that with long hair his little brother looked more like a little sister now. Nope , he would have still missed him.
It was the morning and at breakfast , Sam told DJ that they would be moving to a new house and it would have a big place for him to play and that they would be living with his uncle.
"Really , Daddy ? " The kid said in a really high pitch tone. That made Sam winced and so did Dean. The kid was smiling way too hard , to Dean it looked like his face would be hurting and his little dimples were looking too deep.
But then his smile vanished and he narrowed his eyes and looked once at Sam and then at Dean. Dean hid his smile with a cough and one glance at Sam told him his brother found it funny too. The kid looked pretty serious with narrowed eyes and all but that expression on a three year old looked really cute and funny.
"You's are not playing praks ?"
"No , kiddo. I promise."
DJ looked at his Uncle. "I promise too." Dean replied in mock seriousness.
DJ looked at them seriously for another moment and then jumped from his chair and did a little dance , jumping and clapping his hands looking more like a monkey in a zoo.
"Wow , thats awesome. We are moving to our new house." DJ said excitedly.
"Only if you want , kiddo." Dean said smiling seeing how happy and excited the kid is.
"Hell yeah." DJ replied still jumping.
"Dean.." Sam said.
"What ? I am trying not to swear in front of the kid. And I didn't swear at the moment."
"I wasn't talking to you." Sam said trying to hide his smile but failing. He could say the kid's full name or 'Dean James' but it was funny confusing Dean. Sometimes he do that , intentionally calling DJ just 'Dean' and whenever Dean answered he would say 'I wasn't talking to you , man.' Dean's expression was priceless each time.
"You don't use 'hell'. I am letting this go this once. Next time you are in time out." He said this part to DJ.
"Okay , daddy." DJ said nodding. He hated stupid time outs.
Dean made a finger sign over DJ's head and mouthed 'Bitch'.
Sam replied with showing his own finger and by mouthing 'Jerk' to his brother.
Now they would have to start packing it would take maximum two days to pack all of their stuff since he didn't have many things in his tiny apartment. He would give his resignation at the store too and then he would talk to his landlord about leaving after his shift at the store.
Sam couldn't explain but he felt excited. He was feeling like a new chapter of his life was just about to begin. And that made him excited and happy in equal amounts.
He had talked to his brother about being a 'partner'. He would be happy just working for Dean. It looked unfair to him that Dean had established all this on his own and now he was becoming a partner without contributing anything. Besides he would only be developing a website and managing the accounts.
But Dean had said , "Don't worry. There's a lot of work to do. The amount of work you will be putting in handling my books , because man that thing is a mess and all , it gives you my partner title. Besides I trust you and that trust is what you will be contributing as a goodwill to the business."
Sam agreed reluctantly , Dean kept on saying his books were a mess , but how bad could they be , really ?. He was sure his brother was just exaggerating.
