The bulk of the Secret Society had been apprehended by the Justice League and the Young All Stars but still most everyone felt uneasy and GCPD Commissioner Barbara Gordon, a former JLer herself, wasn't helping any. Gotham municipal code, county statute, and New Jersey state law all forbade vigilantism inside of their jurisdictional limits. The Young All Stars were licensed security agents in said areas so were immunized against the law by that status. As well as their having been hired by Charise Carnes to protect her and her property, namely the Three Towers development itself. Duquesne Security was currently contracted to maintain safety and protect from property damage across Gotham at other Carnes Development sites.

Kathy Duquesne, herself a former Batwoman and JLer, supervising and running her father's former henchmen and henchwench supplying firm. Her agents being specially equipped by Ballantine Smart Metallurgy, owned and developed by Rocki Ballantine. The second of the three original women known as Batwoman. Both with current ties to Young Justice, the Justice League Outsiders, and the revived Bat Clan under the new Bat-Man.

Despite, or perhaps because of the ease of the Jokerz defeat at the hands of the Secret Society of Super Villains and subsequent apprehension of most of the Secret Society itself, the JLers in particular felt that they were amidst a lull between a minor squall and a major storm. Hellequin had been a guiding force behind the Jokerz's recent actions. Actions precipitated by the return to Gotham of Regina Swann, the Empress Penguin, and the Penguins Gang and further exacerbated by Charise Carnes' own return mere hours later from Boston. Both exiled from Gotham by Hellequin herself.

The issue was blurred by the revelation of Plastic Man's transition into womanhood. A development that surprised many and seemed expected by others. A distinct minority was even dismayed. But Plastic Woman and former FBI Special Agent Nancy Morgan had vanished alongside a Black Canary doppelganger replete with sonic vocal powers. The Black Siren being covert enough to have evaded official notice until now.

During Commissioner Gordan's rant, FBI SAIC Sally Raft arrived to apprehend Plastic Woman and Morgan simply because they'd tendered their resignations to the FBI Director simply known as the Chief. Raft herself hunting the couple down until now it seemed they'd joined the Penguins Gang itself. Either proving Raft was justified all along or so unjustified all along and having forced Plas and Morgan to return to lives of crime. Why do the expected time unless you've actually done the crime, being the relevant thinking the transbian/bisexual couple asked themselves.

"Commissioner!" Sgt. Astra Adams broke into the yelling ring of people, "Ryder Corp is dedicating that outreach tower monstrosity they built in the Narrows."

"That's the mayor's job," Barbara grated.

"Ma'am, units are being dispatched because of reports of human sacrifices underway," Sgt. Adams finished her explanation.

"Call dispatch and call all cars!" Gordon broke and ran for her official car.

"Sergeant, has Plastic Man been sighted?" Raft asked.

"No, ma'am," Adams truthfully answered.

"Then the FBI has no official interest in this case," Raft summarily decided.

"Agent Raft, we're talking about human lives," Superman argued.

"No Plastic Man, no Bureau," Raft stormed off to her own car and entourage of agents.

"Flash, Trajectory, you go ahead. Strange Visitor, on me. The rest of you get to the Narrows as fast as you can," Superman and Strange Visitor streaked off in pursuit of the speedsters.

"Operations, we need transport," General Glory called into the Hall of Justice.

"Copy that," Sue Dibney replied, "Blackhawks are inbound to your location."

"Supergirl, join me in providing an escort," Capt. Atom requested.

Natalie Reed flew one Blackhawk Oracle-5 while Flyin' Jenny had the stick on the other.

"What the effing hell are you doing?" Raft yelled over the sound of the turbines.

"What you won't," General Glory said dismissively, "Saving lives."

The Oracles flew off with Supergirl and Capt. Atom providing aerial escort.

Raft contacted the regional FBI office, "I need all agents STAT! We're arresting the Justice League."

"Of course Superman's with them!" she screamed into the phone after receiving a reply form the Gotham SAIC, "You effing coward!"

She threw her issue phone down and stomped on it, "Agents, it's on us."

She was suddenly flanked by her "subordinate" agents.

"Ma'am, we've been asked to detain you pending an inquiry into your recent actions," Agent Ramirez told her.

She drew her sidearm, "Get back all of you! I will kill Plastic Man, Morgan, and any effing costumed freak superhero that gets my way!"

She stole one of the FBI's SUVs. Agent Ramirez contacted the Chief directly, "Yes Ma'am, as you warned, Agent Raft has snapped!"

He hung up after receiving directions, "Wrap it up people. We're back to DC. The local field office will deal with Raft."

And they drove out of Gotham without looking back.

Erishkigal Narayana, the Disco Mummy, had built a glass, steel, and concrete facsimile of the Tower of Babel that she herself had beheld during its construction. Except that hers had been completed thanks to her corporate clout as the majority shareholder and Chairwoman of the Board of Ryder Corp. Others served as President and CEO but she controlled the money. So it was easy to convince the CFO to fund her outlet.

The tower was officially to serve as a subsidiary headquarters for a charitable foundation and NGO created by Ryder Corp. The reality was that it was a temple serving Disco Mummy's ends. The tower was designed to amplify her arcane powers so that she could entrap, mummify, and control upwards of one hundred thousand Gothamites. But to power the ritualistic totems that would augment her natural powers, Erishkigal needed blood sacrifices. Animals were all well and fine but demons required human blood to pay their toll for the power grant. Erish had been born a princess of Sumeria in Mesopotamia over five thousand years ago and she'd been entombed for most of the years following her twenty-fourth birthday.

Despite her outward beauty, Disco Mummy was well named.

The first sounds of modernity when she'd been released from captivity had been disco music. She was still enthralled by it and ageless and immortal, she could dance to it until the universe died. In the meantime, she could create a colonial city-state of the damned and rule over it and prey upon the weaknesses of some of her greatest nemeses in the process.

Human sacrifices would bring any rational being running to stop her. And she counted on it. The GCPD was very real threat and she needed its officers trapped by her mummies as soon as possible. The Justice League's presence was more of an opportunity to eliminate them rather than their presence being a hindrance. Any one of them she could sacrifice on her altar meant another ten thousand souls enslaved to her will.

Ghazia, the reincarnated priestess of Set and Isis, oversaw the butchery of two dozen human beings at a time, their blood draining into a subterranean well spilling the blood across ten stones of such power, they'd been entombed with Disco Mummy rather than allow them out into a world that was lost in the confusion after the Tower incident when humanity lost coherency between languages and the one tribe became many. Disco Mummy was doing her part in unifying the tribes into a single selected organism: her slaves regardless of race, nationality, or creed.

Myra Pyram oversaw those derelicts, addicts, and homeless chosen to be the sacrifices, insuring that they reached Ghazia's altars intact. Scarab, Black Pharaoh, the Green Mummy, and Aten Khalis, or Wraps, kept the encroaching law enforcement officers at bay.

Scarab wore an enchanted power ring predating the Green Flame powered ring created by the fusion of the Oan Starheart and the Earth Elemental. That ring had been granted to Alan Scott to become the champion of life and the Earth's first Green Lantern. Scarab had been Ramses II's younger brother and defender of the Middle Kingdom. Such a hero had not been seen since Black Adam and Nabu had walked the earth kissed by the Nile under Pharaoh Khufu. Like Khufu himself, a reincarnation of Katar Hol, Scarab had lived countless lives before becoming Peter Ward and unearthing the scarab power ring. His lifetimes of memories unlocked within him, Scarab had played at being a champion of the lesser man but now served Disco Mummy's interests without hesitation. His heart burned for the similarly situated Ghazia as hers did for him.

Thus clearing the way, or so he assumed, for Black Pharaoh to win Disco Mummy's affections. But the former African warlord was not even descended from Egyptian blood. He'd found the headwaters of the Nile by accident as he wandered, waiting to die after he was deposed and exiled to his death. There, Black Pharaoh had been transformed by a force beyond his own reckoning. But it re-awoke his passions and his lust for conquest. But he was summoned by the Egyptian scholar and witch, Myra Pyram into Disco Mummy's service and he began plotting his ascent to being her consort and to eventually find a way to kill the unkillable and reign over the Earth.

Green Mummy had been an ordinary man until Erishkigal applied her power to him and mummified his body. She'd had him wrapped in green, cursed burial wrappings that granted him super speed. Aten Khalis was almost as old as Erish herself. He'd betrayed Khufu and Chay'Era and their lovers to their deaths and eternal reincarnation. He himself was cursed to live the ages as an undead mummy. But his curse also made him a monster with animated wrappings he could and could not control as much as they exerted control over him. Disco Mummy alone possessed the power to control Wraps and unburden him with choice or conscience.

These were Disco Mummy's foot soldiers and they kept the GCPD out of the gates built around the tower. While the power from the sacrifices grew and took upon itself an actualized life of its own, seeking a host to wield it. Atop the zigguratic structure, at the pinnacle, stood Erishkigal and she embraced the power and summoned it to do her will even as it found her and sought release upon the world to damn the living.

Perched atop a nearby tenement building, the young woman known as Lightning Raider felt the power building within the nearby Ryder Tower. The public sacrificial exploitation of the downtrodden angered her in such way she'd never felt before.

The professional thief and some-time Young All Star dialed Claire Montgomery, the agency's founder and manager, "Did you get my pics?"

"Yes, but our job is with Carnes Development. Charise Carnes is safely inside Three Towers. We're meant to keep it that way," Claire explained, "That's the job."

"Eff the job. People are dying," Lightning Raider countered.

"Then go through their pockets and look for loose change. It seems your style," Claire hung up. Lightning Raider felt herself pushed back as the pent up power exploded forth from the epicenter that was Disco Mummy. Racing back to the ledge, she saw scores of people beneath her transform as their skin shriveled, their eyes jellied and melted, and their innards desecrated as they dehydrated. Their hair and fingernails grown long and ragged, the newly created mummies sought a purpose to their continued existence.

Their creator, and mistress to whom they were now eternally bound, gave them one and as Lightning Raider descended the building, she found the occupants transformed to a mummy nearly to a man, woman, and pet. Yet children had been excluded from the effect as had select individuals of all ages, races, genders, and orientations. It was they that cared for the abandoned children as what was left of their caretakers surged out into the streets in search of victims.

Victims like the GCPD, which had been spared, and the Justice League, whom had fought their way through the effect unscathed. Yet, luckily, Lightning Raider herself was immune to the undead's scrutiny. So she made her way ever closer through the surging throngs of mummies towards the Ryder Tower without an inkling of what to do once she reached it.

"Whoa!" Flash yelped as he abruptly halted before an unliving wave of mummies howled up the street. Commissioner Gordon was already out of her car and opening fire on them. Bullets seemed to have no effect.

"The heads! You have to aim for the heads!" Flash was at her side in an instant. He began chopping heads off of mummies with super speed strikes. Barbara began taking carefully aimed head shots which halted the mummies but only seemed to confuse them for a time unless the heads erxploded or were otherwise caved in. But separated body parts aimlessly wandered about.

Suddenly, lightning arced across the forward wave of still standing mummies. That announced that Trajectory had joined the fight. The dehydrated flesh of the mummies burned like paper or papyrus in their case. Gordon was on the radio trying get sitreps all on all of her units. Panicked voices drowned out the official channels.

Energy waves struck down the next rank of advancing mummies. Thereby introducing Strange Visitor to the fight.

"Superman is trying to create barriers they can't cross," she informed the beleaguered group.

"How widespread is the effect?" Gordon demanded to know.

"This district is fallen," Strange Visitor sadly informed her, "Most, if not all, of its residents have been mummified."

"My God," Barbara whispered. Mummies brandishing firearms began shooting back. Rapid-fire Vulcan cannons resounded through the night as the Blackhawks' Oracle-5s arrived on the scene.

"Shit effing damn," Catwoman was aghast over the comms. She'd been raised in the Narrows. Her family had been residents for generations. The same family that threw her out on the street at age 13 for coming out to them. Selina Kyle had also been a hooker for the same pimp when they met. Holly Robinson had reminded Selina of her own sister and she began looking out for the younger girl. And eventually took her off the streets as Selina began her career as Catwoman, Holly began training under Ted Grant and worked for him at his gym. His older protege, Dinah Drake, going on to become Black Canary.

Screams and screeches howled through the night. Gunfire could be heard in the distance.

"Go!" Flash radioed the Oracles, "We'll get the Commissioner and her troops to the tower site."

"Copy that. Good luck," General Glory replied. The flying craft went on, deeper into the afflicted Narrows.

"Why would anyone specifically choose this area for a zombie apocalypse?" Trajectory asked.

"It's the one location where, besides Devil's Square, that Carnes Development isn't competing for land," Gordon explained, "Ryder Corp broke ground and completed their site within months after the real estate was sold. And displaced hundreds of families in the process."

"Someone should have recognized the warning signs that a charity was displacing people," Strange Visitor blasted away at mummy surge again.

"Not in Gotham," Barbara advised her.

At the actual temple site, Det. Lts. Harvey Bullock, Renee Montoya, and their respective detective units had been called into supervise the uniformed officers at the Ryder site. Bullock in charge of the Major Crime Division and Montoya in command of the Meta-Crime Division commonly known as the GMO, for Gotham Meta-Operatives. Montoya herself attempting to recruit metas and other gen actives into joining the GMO as deputized officers.

Two would-be operatives had joined some months ago but the so-called Gotham and Gotham Girl had turned out to be kamikazes of a sort. Using their Majestic-class powers shortened their life spans. Gotham and Gotham Girl, the poster children for recruitment, had killed themselves in the line of duty. Needless to say, their sacrifice heralded a wave of fearful rejections rather than recruitment.

But Luke Fox, the second Batwing, had enlisted as a condition of his early parole. Incarcerated for violating Gotham's Dent Act, which outlaws vigilantism, Batwing now served as an official member of the Gotham City Police Department. Currently, he stood beside Montoya, fending off seemingly enraged mummies.

Oracles descended and opened fire with their twenty mike-mike cannons, clearing a ring around the besieged officers. As the JLers joined the fight, Scarab summoned his fellow defenders.

"Supergirl and I will attempt to affect an entrance into that temple site and stop the sacrifices," Capt. Atom announced, "The rest of you get these people to safety"

"Excuse me, but you only have whatever authority I give you," Montoya was in his face, "You want to go inside, fine! But you're taking Batwing with you!"

"Or?" Capt. Atom wondered.

"I arrest the whole shitty lot of you," Montoya reached for her handcuffs.

"You're with us," Capt. Atom informed Batwing.

"Thanks, Renee," Batwing grated.

"Time to earn your keep, hero," Montoya retorted. Montoya no longer retained her memories of Earth-5. The Prime Universe had been the last to be destroyed in the Crisis of the Multiverse. Zero Hour had erased all of the Multiverse's history. But Rebirth, ignited by the Heckler and guided by the dual efforts of Glorith and Dr. Manhattan, to counter that power granted by the Zero Hour Rose to the Evil Queen, reshaped all of time and space into a New Universe centered on a New Earth.

Glorith shaping up what would become the pivotal point in the 31st Century and her final triumph. Everything beyond then was still being shaped by current events. Everything before was a morass sculpted from the Prime history but involving elements from the entire Multiverse that could no longer, and never again would, exist. And so doppelgangers such as Montoya, dead in the Prime Universe, but very much alive on Earth-5 before being transplanted by the Monitor, remained on the New Earth. So the former Det. Sgt, no longer recalled being the second Question or her former place in the Birds of Prey in her former life that had been erased.

Det. Lt. Montoya had a healthy respect for Batman and an intense distrust of other costumed types. Seeing as how nearly every failed superhero became a super villain and the margin of failure being nearly 100%. Those that didn't become outright villains became mercenaries like the Outlaws. Whom Montoya strongly suspected of basing out of Gotham.

Luke Fox was both a prime example and a total exception to that rule. Batwing had avenged his father's death when Batman wouldn't even investigate Lucius Fox's murder. Of course, Batman had nearly retired by then. Some said the Dark Knight would still return now that the Near Apocalypse of 2009 (the Crisis) was ended. Still others pointed out that Batman outlasted the Crisis by six months. Whatever occurred during Bunny Vreeland's botched rescue having broken the Bat.

But persistent rumors circulated of a new Bat-Man in Los Angeles guiding a newly formed Bat Clan. Two of whose agents were locals. Bat-Woman and Bat-Girl had been in LA before Bat-Man appeared. But Interpol had forwarded files to the FBI and the GCPD in particular regarding case histories of skirmishes, attacks, and deaths associated with similar MOs as those surrounding the new Bat-Man.

All revolving around the same nebulous organization that had been revealed to be a secret society called the Court of Owls in Gotham itself. The recent warfare between the League of Shadows, having dispatched the entirety of the League of Assassins, and the Owls bringing about the Court's withdrawal from their primary nest in Gotham and the worldwide devastation of the Court's networks forcing the Owls to scramble to stay relevant.

So in one swift stroke, Dinah Laurel Drake Lance, accomplished in one night that which had eluded the previous Ra's al Ghul for centuries. The operation personally overseen by the new Demon's Head and her wife, Nyssa Raatko, her Demon's Hand. But Disco Mummy, the apparent perp behind this ensuing travesty was an independent operator.

An unfamiliar black and white blur landed before the GCPD and JLers, "We need to evacuate the GCPD."

Renee finally recognized Superman.

"Everyone into the...whatevers!" Bullock roared.

Even with two Oracles, it would take two landings and departures to ferret away this grouping of officers. Commissioner Gordon and her group yet another. Fortunately, Lady Blackhawk herself was covering CAP with several Blackhawks over a pair of Oracle flights to retrieve the police officers and their commissioner. Supergirl used her telekinetic "push-shove" punch to clear the landing area on one side. Capt. Atom vaporized the mummies on another while Strange Visitor finished out the pyramidal landing zone.

Two Oracle-5s lifted the Commissioner and her people out of the containment zone surrounding the Narrows. Superman had furrowed a five hundred foot deep trench nearly a half a mile wide around the district. Using debris taken from the Narrows itself, he erected a hundred foot fence behind the trench on all sides. Two additional Oracles flew into danger to lift the remaining GCPD officers trapped within the confines of the Narrows. Natalie Reed, Flyin' Jenny, Scarlet Ace, Sky Ranger. Black Venus, Firebird all flying the Oracles. Lady Blachawk herself led the escort mission for the Blackhawk rescue ops. She was accompanied by Sky Chief, Skywolf and Grey Comet.

Airboy and Valkyrie led the Air Maidens on a commando mission to insert themselves at a weak point in the mummies' presence and target and eliminate Disco Mummy. The chief Air Maidens being Black Angel, Anna, and Joanna. With them were the expert infiltrators Lady Satan, Celeste and Olga Karloff. Who were Lady Satan's confederates. They employed the van-like flier-street vehicle Orb-14 to enter the Narrows. This man and all of the woman having penetrated the Nazi High Command, and later after cryostasis, the Fourth Reich and its supporting Black Eagle Squadron. They'd thought they'd seen it all. But an undead army was something new even for their jaded sensibilities.

the JLers protected the various airlifts. Flash and Trajectory raced through the groping mummies while Capt. Atom led Supergirl and Strange Visitor in carving out a "blank" spot in the mummies' coverage of the Narrows.

"I just got call from the East End," Catwoman slipped her phone away, "They broke the perimeter there!"

"Captain, take a squad and deal with it," Superman instructed grimly.

"Batwing, Owlwoman, Jack O'Lantern, Blue Jay, Silver Sorceress, Fire and Ice, you're on me!" Capt. Atom announced.

"You need us!" Catwoman argued. Atom, the Creeper, and Wonder Girl were ready to fight over it. Physically if need be.

"Take them," Superman granted Col. Scott permission to.

In the East End breach, Batwing, Catwoman and the Creeper served as native guides and reps to facilitate a slightly more orderly evacuation. Montoya and the GMO arrived in force with uniforms to free up Holly and the Creeper for the heavy fighting. The mummies had plunged into the trench and pulled an ant-like tower building exercise as they crawled over one another to reach the top of the erstwhile "fence" and climb over it. Knowing now that the mummies could escape the Narrows, checkpoints and defensive barriers isolated the district from all others. Sewers were imploded to cut off access to the rest of Gotham.

Knightfall hired the Young All Stars to assist Gordon's plans. Empress Penguin and the Penguin Gang volunteered as well. Only the badly beaten Hellequin avoided voluntary recruitment. Who'd been so badly manhandled that she never returned to her apartment in the Narrows but instead turned to a safe house she'd arranged in the East End. Seeing the nature of the calamity, Marian Drews honestly wished Gotham buried under mummified corpses. At least Disco Mummy had been true to her word. While Marian grieved Christina Bell's death with cold rage aimed at Knightfall and her actual executioner, the former FBI agent turned Penguin, Nancy Morgan and her elasticized lover, Plastic Woman. All of Regina Swann's Penguins crew would have to die in the most excruciating ways imaginable and Hellequin had an exceptionally fertile mind.

"We know Disco Mummy has six acolytes. Four are directly blocking our path. Elongated Man, you deal with the one they call 'Wraps'. Flash, Green Mummy is yours. Strange Visitor, you have Black Pharaoh. Supergirl, Scarab is yours. Inside, Cyborg will deal with Ghazia. While Trajectory will face down Myra Pyram. Does anyone question these assignments?" Superman instructed and questioned all at once. No one had any objections.

"Then let's get to it," he ordered. The JLers split into their assigned stations or units. Those assigned to dealing with individual targets paving the way and a route for the rest to make contact with, and against, Disco Mummy herself.

"Yo! Dust Bunny!" Elongated Man taunted Wraps.

"Are you mocking me?" Aten Khalis asked.

"Surely looks that way if you have to ask," Ralph Dibney called back, "Yeesh!"

"I will kill you," Khalis vowed.

"Many have tried, yatta yatta!" Ralph snickered.

"Die insect!" Wraps charged with his bandages coming to life and stretching forth to ensnare Elongated Man.

But Ralph stretched out of the way, "Gotta do better than that,"

"You're a demon," Khalis realized.

"Nah, I just got a big mouth," Ralph dismissed the notion, "And an unparalleled IQ."

"Vanity!" Khalis snarled as he attacked again. This time Ralph was caught.

Until 1977, Ahmed Khalif had been an ordinary man. A failure at everything, including at being a husband and a father of six children. He'd answered an advert to become a deliveryman for a mysterious employer. That employer turned out to be Erishkigal Narayana. And by earning the job, he was mummified in cursed, green mummification wrappings that magically granted his undead body super velocities but his family and their many descendants were cared for as Erishkigal's own family would have been. So it became that Wally West, the third man to become the Flash, fought the Green Mummy in Gotham that day.

Flash was dismayed to find Green Mummy was seemingly as fast as he was and at least as skilled at fighting. Which meant to say, not very. Flash knew how to land punches in rapid succession or built up speed for supersonic punches. But Green Mummy was fast enough to block or evade those. And he never sat still long enough for a successful lightning throw. So Wally had to do what he detested: think and plan rather than impulsively act or react.

Scarab was amazed as Supergirl's augmented punch shattered his power ring constructed shield. She could deliver a half dozen blows with greater than Superman's strength before mental fatigue limited her ability to do so. Or she could focus the sum total of her power potential into her Telekinetic Vision. But even without her TK, Supergirl was far stronger than a human lacking a strength gen factor. So Scarab was unwittingly drawn into a fair fight.

Black Pharaoh had the ability to summon Osiris constructs from the shadows and pit them against his enemies. The Ryder Tower's shadow loomed in the afternoon sun. So copies of Osiris swarmed Strange Visitor, who defended herself physically and with her energy powers. It was a race for energy depletion. Would Black Pharaoh wear himself down before Strange Visitor did instead?

Distracting the guardians got a team inside the temple gates.

"Get these people to safety!" Superman commanded, "Cyborg and Trajectory, deal with these evil priestesses."

General Glory, Chief Man-of-Bats, Azrael, and Sister Lilhy carved a road through mummies to get the hapless sacrificial victims that remained alive, nearly two dozen of them, to relative safety. Their intended destination a nearby building they could attempt to hold while ordering an airlift for the rescues.

Ghazia could animate inanimate objects. So she considered Cyborg an inferior foe. But he was protected by the very forces that created him. The strife between a Mother and a Father Box so her temple prostitutes joined with the now-living altars in attacking Cyborg.

Myra Pyram transformed a third of the prostitutes into animal-human hybrids and pitted them against Trajectory. All of them being horribly fast as well as transfigured. But they left Myra open to a super speed right cross. Pyram went down and her creations universally died as a result of their transfigurations. Trajectory went up the closest stairwell to seek justice for all of Disco Mummy's victims.

Superman made progress entering the tower and fought his way through mummies and mystical booby traps. Cut, singed, bruised, and battered, he arrived to face Disco Mummy on the rooftop.

"Sooo glad you made it," she effortlessly lied.

Lightning Raider met Air Wave in another stairwell as Air Wave materialized in front of Lightning Raider.

"Gah!" the twenty-ish Lightning Raider exclaimed at the teenager's sudden appearance.

"Hi! I'm Lynn Jordan. Everyone calls me Air Wave," she said excitedly.

"Lightning Raider, we're on the same team. Sort of," she sarcastically retorted.

"Yes, but we were only introduced the one time. We've never spoken since. I figured you'd forgotten `bout me since then," Air Wave explained, "S'`kay. Everyone does."

Now Lightning Raider actually felt guilty, "It's not okay. How are the Young Upstarts?"

"Dealing with the mummies for Charise Carnes on behalf of the GCPD. They totally forgot `bout me," Air Wave shared, "So I thought I'd help you save the city."

"Uh...I don't exactly know if that's what I'm doing," Lightning Raider confessed.

"`Course you are! You're completely awesome!" Air Wave enthused.

"Why does everyone seem to believe in me?" Lightning Raider demanded to know out of sheer frustration.

"Why not?" Air Wave wondered. Lightning Raider stared at other woman in the stairwell wearing a bob hairstyle and wanted desperately to box her ears in. Of course, Lightning Raider was fashionably emo with blue hair compared to Air Wave's complacently normal brunette. The building shook once...and then twice. Air Wave suddenly kissed Lightning Raider.

"Not that I completely minded but why?" the thief wondered.

"Why not? And I might never get a second chance to," Air Wave dissolved to ride the radio and microwave signals saturating Gotham.

"Why not indeed?" Lightning Raider mused as she resumed her ascent.

Airboy watched as his lover, twice his age and still barely thirty-three, mowed mummies down with an assault rifle. The Air Maidens did likewise while Airboy, just turned seventeen, configured a vibration pulse bomb to shred mummies and just mummies. They just had to funnel every foe in a solid wall ahead of them before he set it off.

Capt. Atom's team battled back the mummy breach. His own atomic energies vaporizing them. Fire incinerating their tinder flesh. Ice freezing them in place. The Creeper's bounding crushing them underneath his landings. The Atom braving their innards to burst to full size inside a mummy. Wonder Girl, more formerly named Yara Flor, hacking them to pieces. Owlwoman shredded them and tore heads off in airborne attacks. Jack burned them and Catwoman parted heads from shoulders with her whip and diamond tipped claws. All in all, they were holding their own. Batwing coordinating efforts between them and the GMO.

Back in the Narrows, Azrael led the way to destroying mummies as they ascended up the bottle-necked stairwell of the same tenement Lightning Raider had perched on. General Glory, Chief Man-of-Bats, and Sister Lilhy dealt with those intermittently scaling the building walls. The Oracle-5 lifted to have a second set down and get the remainder of the liberated human sacrifices to safety. Now the JLers just had to survive long enough for Disco Mummy to be defeated by their teammates.

Elongated Man narrowly escaped Wraps' bandages. Khalis kept after Ralph, so Dibney in turn kept Aten busy. Finding that he'd bound himself up by binding everything sight that wasn't easily moved, Aten Khalis found himself immobilized at the extreme lengths of how far his bandages could stretch and how many could be deployed. He fell victim to a severe beating from the Elongated Man.

"I hate doing that, pal. But face it, you left me no choice," Ralph called it in to his wife, the JLU Ops Director to see where Sue needed him most and the most was the tower rooftop.

Flash narrowly avoided collisions with street corners, the edges of building, abandoned cars, pickups, and buses. The Green Mummy slowing to pace Flash from behind. But his patience ran thin, and he sidled up to the Flash once more. And severely impacted a building's foundation cornerstone. Flash was on in him in under a second and knocked the Green Mummy senseless. Sue redirected him into helping Superman and Ralph.

Supergirl shattered another construct and finally unleashed her TK Vision upon Scarab, knocking him clean through the Ryder Tower and into its auxiliary building. There, he lay insensate. So Supergirl headed towards the rooftop without consulting the Hall of Justice.

Strange Visitor lashed out as Osiris duplicates overwhelmed her. She destroyed them and knocked Black Pharaoh out in one fell swoop but also overextended herself and passed out from the energetic exertion.

Inside the temple gates, while Ralph stretched and Supergirl flew, Flash ran up the side of the building. Ghazia managed to immobilize Cyborg with her spells but the feedback from the Boxes stunned her as well. As Father Box activated the Cyborg's in-built weaponry, Mother Box began self diagnostics to ascertain the viability of Victor Stone's organic sustaining systems. Discovering they were intact and unharmed, everyone waited out the spell's duration.

Superman hated to admit it but he was losing this fight against Disco Mummy. Yet, Erishkigal was frustrated. He assumed it was because he wasn't already mummified. The same spell of protection and wards laid upon the Justice League, Outsiders, Justice Society, Young Justice, and the various Crusaders team that sheltered them and granted them protection from the Evil Queen's powers to siphon life forces seemed to equally thwart Disco Mummy's powers. But the bulk of her magical abilities that didn't revolve around creating and controlling mummies served to give her telekinesis and pyrokinesis.

So as the Flash rammed into her, Superman was relieved. Supergirl came above the building's ledge as well. Elongated Man, stretched to his limits, pulled himself up as well. But Disco Mummy fought them all off and despite her being unable to fashion mummies out of them, she was still able to brutally beat at them with her mind and ignite the air around them. So they were at a standstill.

Valkyrie led the Air Maidens behind Airboy as he activatyed his one-off weapon. Mummies of every description, except for Wraps and the Green Mummy, were vibrated into dust. The Narrows lost 90% of its population that day. The mummification effect known to irreversible. Disco Mummy felt her legion break before the enemy. the Young All Stars, Vibe and Reverb, now attuned to killing any and all of her creations. Disco Mummy swore revenge but she she knew she wouldn't be getting it today.

"Who the hell are you?" Trajectory asked Air Wave as she reformed beside Lightning Raider.

"Don't ask. Really," Lightning Raider cautioned to keep the exuberant Air Wave quiet, "We're on your side."

"What can you do?" Trajectory asked.

"I can become any kind of transmission frequency," Air Wave happily explained.

"I'm preternatutrally lucky," Lightning Raider revealed.

"You're lucky?" Trajectory didn't buy it.

"Make it a contest," Lightning Raider added, "Make me guess any number you're thinking and I'll pick it out without any telepathy or precognition whatsoever."

"Guess," Trajectory stated.

"Three," Lightning Raider said with complete confidence, "After the number of Flashes, I'm betting."

"Guess again," Trajectory challenged.

"Two, after Jessie and Miss Quick," Lightning Raider guessed again.

"One more time," Trajectory grew serious.

"Zero," Lightning Raider smirked, "I'm right, aren't I?"

"How can you be so…?" Trajectory faltered.

"Lucky?" Lightning Raider's smirk deepened, "Just born that way. It's why I never get caught."

"What do you do?" Trajectory wondered.

"She's a thief," Air Wave happily filled in when Lightning Raider faltered, "But Claire Montgomery put her on retainer."

"So you're Young All Stars?" Trajectory hoped.

"Purely part-time," Lightning Raider assured her.

"It's a work in progress," Air Wave kicked an imaginary rock.

"Look...I don't time for whatever drama is unfolding," Trajectory whooshed past them.

"Why did you kiss me?" Lightning Raider asked.

"I thought we might die and I didn't wanna regret never doing that," Air Wave confessed, "No biggie. You aren't the only member of my 'kiss before I die' list.".

"Oh! I stand...corrected," Lightning Raider realized.

"Not that it wasn't awesome. I felt my pancakes flip but I'm young and curious. So I have some spit to swap and tongues to dance with...y'know?" Air Wave wondered.

"Most definitely," Lightning Raider promised.

"See ya up top," Air Wave vanished amidst the signals again. Lightning Raider hated to admit it to anyone, even herself, but her own pancakes had been flipped as well. With a little syrup and butter as well.

Oracles brought the rest of the non-flying JLers. Disco Mummy was hard pressed on every side except for down. And the Lightning Raider arrived to fire her grapnel gun through Disco Mummy's shields. It hooked her and began to drag her towards the unrepentant thief. Erishkigal decided that her only exit was to bring the building down. Right atop of everyone's heads. The JLers protected their own. But not everyone was a JLer.

"Lightning Raider!" Air Wave screamed at the rubble as the Justice League extricated itself from the steel, glass, and concrete. At the heart of the tower's remains a small pyramid of debris had formed.

"A little help?" hung over a pit shielded by crisscrossed steel beams and half broken concrete walls, Lightning Raider held on, clipped to her grapnel line. perfectly balanced by a draped line and Disco Mummy hung unconscious beside her at the line's other end.

"I'll be damned," Superman uncharacteristically swore.

Supergirl took charge of Disco Mummy, "Where to?"

"I'll alert the JSA," Flash offered and streaked off.

Capt. Atom unhooked Lightning Raider.

"You're alive!" Air Wave shrieked as she almost tackled Lighting Raider into the chasm leading to the sewer tunnels.

"You're the first person I've wanted to kiss twice!" Air Wave declared. Before Lightning Raider could protest, she found the teen's mouth clamped on hers. The hell with it, the thief decided and went with it.

"Aaannnddd the drama unfolds further," Trajectory muttered to no one's understanding.

"The death toll stands at roughly ninety percent," Sue explained to the returned JLers.

"Doc Fate and Anna Fortune have Disco Mummy sealed up in Fate's Tower," Flash reported, "They said they're working on a permanent arrangement but it being an Age of Chaos and all…"

"Understood," Col. (Ret.) Steve Trevor's team had returned as well.

"New Jersey's orphanages and foster system are overwhelmed by the sudden influx," Shayera Hol added.

"But Carnes Development has swept in to buy everyone out," Catwoman scowled.

"That's not necessarily a bad thing given the circumstances," John Stewart opined.

Elongated Man's nose was twitching, "Funny they suddenly had all the liquid capital necessary to afford it though."

"Ralph smells a mystery," Sue warned.

"Something a lot smellier, actually," Elongated Man complained.

"I'll hand it Erishkigal Narayana, she plays her part to perfection," Charise Carnes toasted Disco Mummy's actions. Regina Swann, Jaina Hudson, and the White Rabbit did as well.

"The bubbles tickle," White Rabbit tittered.

"It's brandy, not champagne," Jaina rolled her eyes.

"When Erish applied to zone a charity I knew it was anything but," Charise was feeling self-congratulatory, "So I let her have her property and now I effectively own the Narrows at half the cost it should've been."

"Did you hear that?" White Rabbit spilled her drink as she vaulted for the main door. But there wasn't anyone to be found. Supposedly, not even a shadow.

Gypsy made it to the ground floor where Vapor and Vibe awaited her.

"Lightning Raider's hunch was correct. I recorded the conversation but it won't help now that the ink has dried," Gypsy predicted.

"Still, bad press can still sour some Carnes deals underway," Vapor hoped. So they went to the press and White Rabbit would always pretend not to have seen Gypsy's shadow against the stairwell wall, waiting for her to leave. She and Jaina were still playing the long game. And that meant having Charise Carnes, and her as Knightfall, dependent on them
