It was not a calm night across the fields of Hyrule. Each individual blade of grass shivered as the cold winds harshly blew. Drenched from the heavy rainfall, they, like the leaves on the trees, glistened as they reflected the luminous beauty of the moonlight, blissfully undisturbed by the roaring thunder and the fierce civil war which was raging only a few miles away.
A steed galloped through this very part of the field on the stroke of midnight. On it's back was a young Hylian woman wearing a dark hooded cloak. She was accompanied by her son, a baby, who was wrapped snug in a blanket that was securely strapped to her.
Though late at night, the baby was wide awake, looking with a world of wonder into his mother's eyes. His mother looked to him every few moments with a smile as though to reassure him, the love in her eyes was clear but there was also a look of concern, she feared for his safety. Most of the time her focus was on where she was steering the horse, ensuring there was no accidents. She would also frequently look back, terrified someone may be following. These were dark times.
After a while, the young woman slowed the horse as it carefully veered into a narrow area just outside the woods, before coming to a full stop. She carefully dismounted, then signalled her steed to return home. She knew she would have no further need for it.
As she approached the way into the forest, a bright light approached. Worried somebody had anticipated their whereabouts, she reached for her sword and shield, ready to fight to protect her baby.
A gentle, almost childlike voice came from the light, explaining it was not there to harm them, but to guide them. She cautiously eased her sword back into the scabbard, still keeping a firm grip in case it was a deception.
As the light came closer, she saw this was no ordinary light, but a ball of light, flying of it's own accord, for it had wings. Having now realised the legends of Forest Fairies were true, she followed it through the Kokiri Forest, in the Lost Woods, and eventually reached the Great Deku Tree.
Knowing she had delivered her baby to safety, the young woman passed him to the Great Deku Tree, who gently lifted the baby with the fine tips of it's massive roots. Tears formed in her eyes as the talking tree reassured her he would be safe there, and when the time was right, all would be explained to him. Then she fell to the ground, and her body faded into dust which slowly blew away in the now gentle wind.
The Great Deku Tree, still holding the baby who had fallen asleep while they were talking, looked to the guiding fairy and said, "Navi... Thou hast waited patiently for thine partner... The one chosen by destiny... The prophecy unfolds... Link has arrived."
