#Jenvid - kind of AU What if after the last "cut" of Friends, Jennifer and David could not say goodbye to each other? Will there be heartbreak or a happy end?
Rating will change to M soon!
Strictly fictional! All in my head! Enjoy!
...
One. Last. Time.
6 heads. All trying to keep the tears in. 6 pairs of arms. Clutching each other close.
Wishing each other a good show.
For the last time.
The day he had dreaded the most in his life had arrived. Thit WAS goodbye.
"Alright, guys! One last Hoorah!" he said, full of feelings that he could not explain.
He had known that this day was coming, and he knew that this was the perfect time for their goodbye: It made sense from a storytelling point of view, people still loved them and they all were in their 30s now. Matt already had his new show in the making, Matthew had a few movie projects, Lisa wanted to focus more on her family, so did Courteney, who was having her baby soon.
And Jen... with her promising carreer, her perfect marriage, also ready to start a family. And she deserved all of that, because she simply was the best!
And him... He had been offered movie roles himself, but all of them were mostly kind of weak copies of Ross... attractive, slightly geeky guys falling for the beautiful leading lady in a RomCom... but of course not as ellaborated and well-written as his small screen alter-ego. And the leading ladies... well mostly kind of dull replicas of the one he had to leave behind.
He was considering moving to the East Coast, starting fresh, maybe hitting the stages again and exploring his carrer behind the camera... ready to step up if something great and different and challenging occured.
He was in the comfortable position to do all those things without having to worry about rent or a full fridge now. So why not?
He was excited for all those possibilities, but also afraid to leave his current life behind... leave HER behind.
He knew she never had been his to have, but OH, how much he would have loved it.
They had danced around each other for 10 years, just like their characters had, but making the, what seemed to be the wise, choice to save all that chemistry for on-screen, to maintain the friendship they all had formed off-screen.
They were still so young when they met and fell in love, and had been struggling actors waiting tables for so long, that it seemed safer not to take this anywhere not to ruin the first promising gig they had. Group dynamic after all was so crucial for the series, and two heartbroken people in the middle of this could have ruined everything.
Then they both had been in various relationships, still having an outlet for the feelings that never really died, just like with Ross and Rachel, after their relationship ended.
And then... a certain A-List Hollywood star entered the picture and swept her off her feet. You could not blame her, who was he kidding? Brad was wildly attractive, extremely successful, talented and - he hated to admit it - a really nice guy to be around.
So when they finally could have been at a point where they were both settled enough in their carreers and could have put their personal life first - she, the sweetheart she was, met her prince charming and rode off into the sunset with him.
Of course, he had been happy for her, but he also had a feeling that something was taken from him. Which was the mere chance on the horizon that one day, all obstacles they had faced would be out of the way, and HE could be the one by her side, living with her, walking down the aisle with her, having kids with her and growing with her.
Maybe a fresh start would be for the best. For both of them. Maybe it was time to finally let her go, as he knew that even with her lovey-dovey dream marriage, she still had a soft spot for him. Time to let her be happy with her life, and him finally moving on.
The wise choice, his brain told him, but his heart kept kicking and yelling and screaming to stay and fight for her.
He had to postpone his inner struggle for now, to bring this fantastic show to the heartfelt, comforting end it deserved. The rest had to wait.
