Chapter 1: Big Brother the Shining Light

When Yugao Uzuki was born her brother was on a mission all the way in the land of snow. He was long undercover waiting to perform an assassination. It was a cold night and to help him pass the time for his intel team to arrive he began writing. It was a habit that he had started to help him on the longest of missions. This was the first letter exchange that he had with his soon-to-be newborn sister. It would be these exchanges of letters that would forever impact Yugao's life even after his death.

A week later with a successful assassination, Atsushi was on his way home when he sent his crow back to Konoha to send the letter to his parents. On the back of the letter, he had drawn a picture of what he guessed Yugao would look like. His work wasn't the greatest but he enjoyed the feeling of creating things with his hands instead of always destroying them. The drawing shows a chibi baby with a head full of purple hair darker than his closer to his father's hair. He was fairly proud of it and made sure to be extra careful with coloring the picture.

Atsushi's father Gakupo was on his way back home from helping his friend Teuchi set up his soon-to-be-named Ramen shop. He was tall and graceful and had a presence that no one could ignore. Once a fierce shinobi from the land of whirlpools, now a middle-aged man who due to an unknown sickness had given up his shinobi life and instead did what he could to help support the dreams and desires of others. He was Atsushi's hero remembering the time of his shinobi days and a nuisance to his "doting" wife. He sighed as he got closer to his home wondering what he would get into when he arrived.

He loved his wife Rika and was truly so happy to have another child a long 15 years after they had their firstborn Atsushi. Rika was a beautiful woman who was a traveling singer and was frustrated that her "vacation" back home had led to her getting pregnant again. She had finally gotten back on the road a mere five years ago and she could not believe that she had made the mistake and gotten knocked up again. She was hesitant to give the news to her son and husband, but at the news, Gakupo was ecstatic and felt he had more of a purpose yet again. She begrudgingly agreed to stop performing for a while and chose to hopefully become a singer in a local onsen.

Upon Gakupo's arrival back home in the furthest outskirts of Konoha, he found Atsushi's crow perching on a tree next to his home. "Oh, it's you, what news do you have from Atsushi?" He asked the crow, petting it carefully and taking the letter from the crow. He opened the sealed letter and chuckled when he saw the drawing. "Oh son, already sending little Yuu letters. Well, thank you Crow you may go back to Atsushi now. I pray for his safe travels home." Gakupo said before heading into the house.

The house was chaotic when he came home. He could hear Yugao screaming from his bedroom. "Gakupo gets in here please I can't take it anymore!" Rika yelled out from their bedroom. "Yes dear," Gakupo said, smiling to be back home to his family after a long day. When he entered he saw his beautiful wife holding his precious baby girl. "Oh, come to her little Yuu. Have you been giving your Mom a hard time?" He asked, carefully picking Yugao out of Rika's hands. "Yes, she has been the absolute worst. She keeps crying and I have tried feeding her, changing her, and rocking her. Nothing is working Ga." Rika said, laying down on the bed and covering her face with her hands. "I forget how hard it is to be a parent of a newborn. You are as beautiful as always love. I will take care of her for as long as you need." Gakupo said, bending down and kissing Yugao who's crying had dwindled in her father's hands. "Thank you so much Ga I love you," Rika said, waving Gakupo out of the room. "You're welcome my love," Gakupo said, carefully shutting the door.

Gakupo had taken Yugao outside into the garden area and sat down on a bench that overlooked the koi pond. "Little one you have caused quite a ruckus today. Hopefully, the fresh air is good for you." Gakupo said as he moved to put his hands through his daughter's hair. He sat in silence holding his daughter looking at the koi swimming in the pond. Every once and while he would look down at Yugao who was blissfully staring up at her father. "Oh yea Yuu, your brother Atsushi sent a letter. Here let me read it to you." Gakupo said, pulling out the letter.

"Dear Sukoshi Tsuki,

Welcome to this amazing world, I am sorry I am not going to be there to meet you when you are born. It is the burden that I face to keep the world a better place for you and all those that come after you. Even so, I am thankful for this journey dear little sister. I have found one of the most precious gifts that I could ever give you. I am hoping that I will be able to give it to you in person. My heart is filled with so much joy that I will get to be your big brother. I will work on doing my best to be there for you in between my missions. Please take care.

With Love,

Murasakino Tsuki

P.S. Mom and Dad, please do notttt get rid of this letter until Yugao is old enough to read it herself. Thanks…."

Gakupo smiled after reading the letter seeing how it had put Yugao to sleep. "You are one lucky little girl. Atsushi will be such an incredible older brother when he meets you. He already has so much love for you." He said, kissing her forehead.
