CHAPTER 3

- Three days later… UA High School Principal's office.

"Hmmm…" The rat-bear-dog browsed over the file in front of him. He looked up at Yamada. "Tell Aizawa to bring her to Gym Beta Thursday night at six. I have a phone call to make," he paused. "When does your husband complete his teaching degree?"

"In August."

"Good. Have him call me when he finishes. Iida-san is going on Maternity leave at the end of the Month and I am going to need a new homeroom teacher." Nezu stated, dismissing Hizashi with a wave of his paw.

As soon as the voice hero left, Nezu reached for his phone and dialed. "Sorahiko, it's Nezu. We have a problem. I'd rather not discuss it over the phone. It's a sensitive issue regarding a mutual acquaintance. Yeah, that one. Can you meet me here on Thursday? Good. Five Thirty. Good. I'll see you then." He hung up the phone and reached for his tea, pulling the file close again. How the hell had Toshinori managed this mess.

- Thursday evening…UA Gym Gamma

Cementos, also known as Ishiyama Ken, watched the activity below, hands behind his back as he gazed through the observation window. Standing beside him were Nezu and a short Gray-haired man Nezu had introduced as Torino Sorahiko, a former UA homeroom teacher.

"The kid's a natural teacher; I hope you have plans to keep him," Sorahiko commented, watching as Aizawa put the child through a series of quirk assessment tests. Ken winced as the baseball she threw tore through six inches of solid cement wall with a sonic 'boom' that shook the building. "Holy Shit!" He burst out. That girl was a powerhouse. He looked at Nezu as she tore the gym floor apart in the fifty-meter dash. "How old is she again?"

"I've already got him on the roster to teach next year. He will be coming in August to complete the paperwork," Nezu replied to Sorahiko. "I would like him to shadow you for the next few months just for some practical experience." He looked up at the tall gray teacher, "she's six."

Ken stared at him, shocked, before turning his attention back to the activity below. Aizawa was jotting notes down in a spiral notebook. The young man rattled off a question they couldn't hear and the greenette flashed him a blinding smile before replying.

"Has Recovery Girl seen her yet?" Ishiyama asked, wondering about the child's parents. The list of people with a registered quirk similar to hers was very short. So short he could count them on one hand.

"That's probably a good idea. I'll talk to her about scheduling a visit with the children," Nezu replied, passing a folder to Sorahiko. His eyes never left the arena below.

Gran Torino opened the folder and skimmed the pages, a river of swear words, some of which Ken didn't even think anatomically possible, flowing from his lips. "That idiot! That complete and utter…argh!" Sorahiko ranted. "When I get my hands on him…"

Ken looked at Nezu and raised an eyebrow. Nezu just shook his head. Right. Above his pay grade. Don't ask, you don't want to know. Ken knew the drill. Obviously the girl was child of someone they didn't want anyone to know about. Based on the clues he'd deduced; he narrowed his list down even further.

The door behind them opened and Present Mic slipped into the room accompanied by the aroma of Pepperoni and a small purple-haired child.

Ken gravitated towards the boxes the voice hero placed on the table, grabbing a plate from the stack on the side table. He glanced curiously at the small face peeking out from around Yamada's leg. The boy was obviously shy. He smiled gently at the boy who ducked back behind Hizashi. Ken sighed. He'd wait until the child was a little less wary before introducing himself.

Hizashi deposited the pizzas on the table and knelt down beside his little companion. "Hitoshi, this is Ishiyama Ken, you might know if him as the Pro Hero Cementos."

Hitoshi waved a shy hello to the tall cement hero before ducking his head behind Hizashi's arm again. The voice hero chuckled and stood up, opening a pizza box. "How's it going?" he asked, sitting Hitoshi in a chair and handing the little boy a plate of pepperoni pizza which he tore into ravenously.

"As well as can be expected. I've never seen a strength quirk that strong."

"Was that a baseball that passed by my head as we were coming in?" Present Mic asked. He took a sip of Coca Cola and bit into a steaming slice of Supreme, not bothering with a plate.

"Yeah, she put it though six inches of concrete and broke the sound barrier doing so." Torino grumbled, swiping a slice of cheese pizza from the third box.

Nezu introduced Yamada and Torino before opening a box. "At least she doesn't scream 'Smash' like a certain apprentice of yours is known to do. That's a rather bad habit he has of announcing his attacks," Nezu noted, taking a slice of the cheese pizza for himself. Hitoshi's eyes widened as he watched the large, talking mouse-creature from across the table.

They were almost finished with the pizza when the floor shook ominously. Torino moved back to the viewing window and looked out. "Well, shit." He looked at Cementos. "It's a good thing you can repair that easily."

Everyone else moved to observe except Hitoshi who stood on his chair and reached into the box of pepperoni for another slice. It looked like Aizawa was testing her jumping skills. There was now a pit in the center of the gym with cracks radiating from the epicenter. Kiku was at the center of said pit pouting down at a broken jump rope.

Nezu moved to a microphone set into the wall. "Aizawa-san, please test your quirk, then you can finish up for the evening. Pizza is here."

Shouta nodded. He knew what Nezu was asking. Could her power be shut down with his quirk? He guided her over to a cement wall and helped her into a pair of boxing gloves. The adults watched from above as he instructed her to punch the wall at full force, activating his quirk just before she struck.

She hesitated, asking him a question. He shook his head and gestured up at the window. She looked up at the observing adults and waved, before turning and punching the wall. The window rattled and cracked and the building shook. As the cloud of dust settled, they could see Aizawa standing beside what remained of the wall, shaking his head. Whatever version of the quirk her father had passed on, it had somehow mutated to the point where his erasure didn't work on it.

Nezu hummed. That complicated things. He would have to recommend Aizawa begin taking the girl through the basics of Tai-chi meditation. He said as much to the others.

Sorahiko nodded. That is what he would have recommended if the rodent hadn't thought of it himself.

They all returned to the table for more pizza. A few minutes later the door opened and Aizawa entered with Midoriya behind him.

"Is that pepperoni?" She asked, scooting into the chair beside Hitoshi and lifting the lid of a box and inhaling deeply. She looked over at her brother with a pout. "You only left me one slice?" Her lip trembled.

Hizashi moved to stave off disaster and opened the fourth box, revealing an untouched pepperoni. Blue eyes glittered up at him and a brilliant smile flashed. "I love you Papa-Zashi!" She reached for a plate and pulled the three largest slices in the box onto it. Hizashi placed a Glass of Cola in front of her. It was swiftly removed and replaced with a box of apple juice. Another box of Apple Juice landed in front of Hitoshi. Shouta moved past the children, passed the glass of Cola to Hizashi with frown and a raised eyebrow and snagged two slices of Anchovy and sausage pizza from the other half of Hizashi's box. He dropped into the chair across from the children and turned his attention to the adults in the room as he ate.

Hizashi smiled and downed the glass of Cola before introducing Cementos and Gran Torino to the two children. Shouta and Kiku had met Nezu when they first arrived.

"Are you a mouse or a bear, Nezu-san?" Hitoshi's voice wavered as he hopped off the chair and padded over to the chimera. Nezu laughed and patted the boy on the head. "I don't know. I could be a mouse or a dog or a bear. No one really knows, not even me. It's a mystery." He winked at the purplette who stood eye-level with him. Hitoshi giggled and reached out to touch Nezu's fur, eyes alight with curiosity.

Midoriya hastily swallowed the bite of pizza she was chewing and smiled at them. "It's a pleasure to meet you Ishiyama-san, Torino-san."

Cementos greeted her and Torino smiled. "You can call me gramps, kiddo. I practically raised your dad."

Midoriya gasped. "You know my dad? My real dad? Who is he? What does he do? Is he a hero?" she babbled at the elderly hero; her meal temporarily forgotten.

Hizashi placed a glass of milk in front of her, removing the empty apple juice box. "That is an answer for another day. For now, eat your pizza."

She nodded and tore into her food. Listening to the conversation flow around her.

"Any luck reaching him?" Nezu asked.

Torino shook his head. "He hasn't returned my calls. If he doesn't get back to me soon, I'm going to fly over there and drag him back myself." He swiped another slice of pizza from a random box. "She has his appetite," he muttered, watching her polish off a fourth slice. "I can't believe she's six," he muttered.

"She's my little sister," Hitoshi spoke up proudly, "Cuz I'm older'n her." The adults laughed, enjoying the simple logic of the small boy.

Midoriya looked at Nezu. "You aren't mad at me for breaking your gym, are you?"

Nezu smiled fondly at her. "Not at all. Every time you break it, Cementos here gets practice using his quirk. You have an amazing quirk child. Feel free to come here and train it whenever you like." He looked at Aizawa. "I will send you a list of exercises she can do at home to practice her control as well as some basic training exercises for Gym Gamma. Perhaps enroll her in a martial art or two. I'd recommend Tai-chi to start with. More combative disciplines can wait until she's older."

"I thank you for your assistance and your advice. We are already looking into martial arts classes for both children." Shouta paused, grabbing a slice of pizza. "On another note, can you recommend a specialist for mental quirks? Hitoshi seems to be terrified of using his quirk. I think he's afraid we will send him away. Not that we ever would, but you know how fearful children get."

"I'm afraid of thunder," Midoriya piped up before switching gears back to the discussion, pizza forgotten. "Those jerks put that thingy on his mouth every time he tried to talk." She pounded a little fist on the table. There was a loud crack and the wooden table shattered. She sat down with a thump, the chair collapsing and spilling her at Torino's feet.

Tears trembled in her eyes as Sorahiko crouched down beside her. "Dry your eyes my dear, it isn't the end of the world." He dabbed her tears away with a small white handkerchief embroidered with Sakura blossoms that he pulled from some invisible pocket.

"I keep breaking things. Can I really be a hero like All Might and Papa Shou & Papa Zashi? I keep hurting people and breaking things. I don't want to be a bad person," she mumbled, staring at her feet, lower lip trembling as teardrops spattered the floor.

"Nonsense. You can be anything you put your mind to young lady. So, you break a few things, so what. That doesn't make you a villain. You don't want to hurt people or destroy things, do you?"

She shook her head, lip still trembling as she gave him as shaky smile through her tears.

"Of course you don't. If you did, then I might think you wanted to be a villain, but as long as you focus on your goal of helping others and practice your self-control you can become a great hero. Maybe even greater than All Might someday." Torino stroked her soft viridian curls. So like Toshinori's he thought, smiling at the two curly locks of emerald hair that had tumbled forward to obscure her eyes.

"No one is greater than All Might!" Kiku proclaimed, her loyalty to the number one hero unbreakable. She thought for a moment, glancing over at Shouta and Hizashi. "Except maybe Papa-Shou and Papa-Zashi." She whispered to Sorahiko in a conspiratorial tone.

The adults smiled as they cleaned up the remains of dinner. Sorahiko grew angry when Shouta described the conditions at the orphanage and explained that the item Kiku had been referring to a few minutes before was a muzzle.

…A.U.T.H.O.R.S..N.O.T.E…

Nothing anywhere I could find tells us how old Nezu is, so I am going off the idea that he ages like a human…or an experimented-on animal. 😉

Responses to reviews will be at the end of the chapters. I welcome grammar suggestions and ways to tighten up the story or improve on it. There will be no ships other than Shouta/Hizashi & Sorahiko/Chiyo in this story and that will only be little hints mentioned in passing.
