A/N I just felt this random curiosity about Percy Weasley and I wanted to explore the gaps in his story so here it is. Unlike my other stories, I've only got the first 4 chapters pre-written for this one so don't expect a proper update schedule - it all depends on how often I write. The first few chapters will probably be posted every week and then after that, it's up to inspiration to strike me (or reviews to motivate me).

"Mother, father, I have some excellent news to tell you," Percy proclaimed.
He had been waiting excitedly for the right moment to tell them about his promotion all night. During dinner he was sure the news was just going to burst out of him, but he couldn't say it in front of his siblings. They would make fun of him for his achievements as always but at least his parents had to be glad.
"I've received a promotion in the ministry," he said proudly.
"Percy, that's amazing! You're doing so well at work, you more than deserve it," his mother exclaimed.
"What's the position?" his father asked.
"Junior Assistant to the Minister," Percy stated waiting for the congratulatory remarks he was sure must follow. Instead, his parents' faces fell slightly and they exchanged a nervous glance.
"Percy, I know you won't believe this, but don't you think that maybe you were given a position so close to the Minister because he wants to spy on Dumbledore?" Arthur cautiously suggested.
"It's not that we don't think you're capable but it's quite rare to become Junior Assistant to the Minister so early in your career. Our family is known to be close to Dumbledore, dear," Molly added quickly.
"I should think that it speaks to my merit that I was given this position despite your dealings with Dumbledore," Percy retorted. "That man is a liar trying to undermine the Ministry and I don't understand why you believe him so much. You treat him like some god but he's a scheming, lying-"
"Percy stop that at once! You can't keep holding the Ministry on a pedestal and listen to the propaganda they're feeding you," Arthur snapped.
"It's not propaganda if it's true," Percy shot back. "And why are we making this about Dumbledore again? This is about me."
"We know Percy and we really want this to be about you but you have to see that Fudge might have ulterior motives," Molly said soothingly.
"I can't believe you! I know that my siblings never believed in me, I know that Dad doesn't either but I thought that at least you would support me," Percy said accusatorially. "Just because I'm the only one in the family with any sort of ambition to do anything. Bill never cared about doing anything good despite his excellent grades, Charlie gave up so many careers to look after dragons, Fred and George just prank people all the time, Ron's always following Harry Potter around and Ginny's taken all of their examples instead of following me."
"Don't talk about your siblings like that," Arthur reprimanded.
"Oh, don't even get me started on you Dad. You're the reason they're all like that. I've been struggling against your reputation ever since I joined the Ministry with your love of silly Muggle toys. You never had any ambition to do anything worthwhile and you're the reason why we're all so bloody POOR!" Percy screamed, no longer caring that everyone in the whole house could hear him.
"Percy Weasley, don't you dare speak to your father in that way," Molly began.
"Just shut up Mum! You're all idiots for following Dumbledore. He's headed for big trouble and he'll drag you down with him. But I know that my loyalty lies with the Ministry not with some crackpot old fool. If you're going to become traitors to the Ministry, I'm going to make sure that everyone knows I'm not in this family anymore." Percy stormed upstairs to his room, ignoring the shocked and angry faces of his siblings listening on the stairs.
5 minutes later, had packed his bags and was heading back through the living room to the front door.
"Percy wait!" his mother cried, pausing her whispered conversation with her husband. "Where do you think you're going?"
"I'm leaving this house and I'm never coming back. From now, none of you, none of you," he directed those words to his siblings who has come into the room too,"are my family anymore. Don't try to contact me."
As Percy Apparated away, he was sure he heard a choked sob from his mother, but nothing could be done about that now. They had made their choice and he had made his.
