A/N: We have Oliver, Clark, a library and a bicycle….
Oliver Wells was enjoying his Saturday by biking around Maryland taking in the views. He stopped at the library in Frederic when he saw a sign for a book sale, he wasn't expecting to find anything of interest, but he needed a break for a few minutes. He looked around as he went inside, the library wasn't that big, but he supposed it was adequate for the town. If he lived there and needed library he'd go to a bigger town that had more resources. He walked into a small room to the left of the main library and found the six tables of books for sale. It didn't take Oliver long to look at all the books and determine that none of the books were of interest to him. On his way out he spied a paperback book, Murder made me do it by Clark Edison PhD. Oliver shook his head and walked over to the stack of books, it couldn't be that Clark Edison, Oliver picked up the book and flipped it over, chuckling as he saw Clark staring back at him. Deciding he HAD to read the book Oliver walked to the table in the corner and paid the clerk twenty-five cents. "Enjoy your book…"
"I won't I am certain that it will be the worst thing I've read in my life. This book will be so horrible I might not finish it."
"Then why did you buy it?"
"I know the person who wrote it." Oliver put the book in his backpack and walked out and got on his bicycle and went on his way.
BONES
A few days later Oliver was sitting in the Jeffersonian employee cafeteria eating his strawberry Uncrustables, string cheese and carrot sticks and reading Clark's book when the author walked in and directly over to Oliver.
"What do you think of the book, Oliver?"
Oliver lowered the book, slowly chewing on his pb&j. " Dude, this book is horrible. I didn't expected it to be a masterpiece, but it's worse than I could have imagined. Its plot is the weakest thing I've ever read it's trite, predictable, wordy and over descriptive. Frankly, I wonder about your editor's intelligence because they told you the book was good. Not to mention I found two grammatical errors. Don't get me started on your publisher, I think there are more ineptt than your editors…in short this is the worst thing I've ever read in my life."
"Come on, I know it isn't up to Doctor Brennan's standards, but it's good for a first attempt…"
"It's not. Doctor Brennan's books aren't that great the personal relationship between Kathy and Andy, especially the smut, detracts from the story line. The mysteries are simple and easy to figure out, but that really isn't doctor Brennan's fault, the fans of her books couldn't handle anything more complex. That said Dr. Brennan's books are a lot better than yours."
"Why did you buy my book if you weren't expecting to enjoy it?"
"Honestly? When I saw it at the Fredric county public library book sale I couldn't believe you had written a book. I wanted to be surprised and like it…"
"Sure."
"I did. But now I see why it was in the sale and it only cost twenty-five cents…. It also looks like it was never even checked out…Did you ever sell any copies?"
"Of course…"
"How many that weren't bought by your mother?"
"If you hate it so much, why are still reading it?"
"I want to see how bad it gets. It's like a train wreck, I know I shouldn't look, but I can't help myself…" Oliver ate the rest of his uncrustables.
"Is there anything you like about the book?"
"The cover is cool…"
"At least theirs that…" Clark shook his head and walked to the ice cream machine…
