Author's note: So I'm changing up some details. Instead of Volcra there will be vampires. This is going to be an AU kind of story with many differences and mostly original with very little reference to the show.
When I was a child, I remember seeing my parents being together as a loving couple. My father would pick me up and he would look at me as if there was something bothering him but he would just hug me. I would notice on his wrist there were initials that I figured were moms as I hugged him back. I looked over his shoulder looking at my mom as I saw initials on her neck. I was only three at the time so I didn't know what to think of it.
"Alejandro, they will come to test her when she's old enough to be tested." Mother said
"I know Amara, that is why we will leave for Ketterdam before they come." Father said
I was unsure why we had to leave, I had been able to use my Grisha power but what could be so important that we had to leave. As a Three-year-old, I was just confused but my father seemed insistent. As days went on I was training along with my mother and father with sun and water to keep myself safe.
The following year I turned four, there was a knock on the door as I saw my parents look at me. I was unsure what was going on but my father pushed me into the closet and told me to wait there. I listened through the door wondering what was going on and since the closet wasn't very far from me. I knew that there was nothing I could do except follow my parent's instructions. The sound of the front door opening was present as I closed my eyes to try to focus.
"General Kirigan, what do we owe the honor?" Mother said
"Amara, I came to ask you to reconsider being part of the 2nd army. You could lead the Tidemakers to become as powerful as yourself." General Kirigan said
"I'm sorry General, but I have a sick daughter and she needs me more than the 2nd army." Mother said
I realized my mother lied to the general about my health and I questioned why she would do such a thing. I felt a weird tingling feeling on my neck as I put a hand over it wondering what that was about. I tried my best to keep my breathing even to not give away they'd put me in this closet or I'd be in trouble. I put my other hand over my mouth so I didn't give my location away as my father showed me to do when I started to panic knowing that I didn't know if this man was a threat. Still, I listened to him knowing that this wasn't going to be easy on my mother.
"Amara, please. People in this area are starting to disappear and they are believing that Vampires now exist." General Kirigan said
I had to lightly laugh a bit knowing that a Vampire couldn't walk in the daylight but then the existence of such creatures would be alluring. I was glad my hand was over my mouth to conceal these giggles no matter how silly they seemed. Knowing that I couldn't be out there to greet our Grisha General I wasn't sure why it was so important.
"I'm sorry but I have to insist you leave. I wouldn't want you to get sick, General." My mother said
"We'll be back, close to the day your daughter is to be tested. Has she shown what kind of Grisha she is?" General Kirigan asked, "Oh sorry, I forgot your husband is undeclared."
"Tidemaker, as I am." Mother said
I heard the sounds of footsteps and the door closed as more footsteps came to the closet. I removed my hand from my mouth but not my neck as Father opened it. When he saw I was holding my neck he went and moved my hand as he looked at my neck. The surprised look on his face was evident and afterward, he seemed to relax once the sound of the carriage was far away. I felt that feeling again in my neck as I shivered a little knowing that I had no idea what was going on. Mother soon approached as father picked me up as he turned to look at mother.
"Is something wrong, Alejandro?" Mother asked
"We need to get her out of here sooner than I thought." Father said
"Why? General Kirigan won't return until she's eight." Mother said
Father just had an intense look on his face as he took me to the living room and he placed me on the couch. I was quiet knowing that it was between them what was going to happen to all of us. Mother walked in and Father was pacing as he seemed to be considering something. I couldn't tell what was on his mind and Neither could mother.
"Alejandro, what is it?" Mother asked, Father, sighed as he rubbed the back of his neck knowing he had to tell us. I merely looked at him with my head bent a little curious as well at what he was hiding. "Amara, I..I made a deal with someone a long time ago before we met." Father said, "For Amira to be married to someone when she's of age." Mother just looked at him in shock and I didn't understand what he meant by that but she seemed to understand. "Who?" Mother asked, "Who did you make the deal with and promise our daughter to?" Father was hesitant knowing that this was something he'd never spoken from the look on his face. "Amara, General Kirigan is Aleksander Morozova. The Black Heretic."
I giggled a little thinking father was joking that there had to be some mistake, mother read me the story of the black heretic. He'd died and the fold held a group of vampires that were bound there. I thought this was all a joke since Vampires as far as we knew didn't exist or if they did couldn't come out in the sun.
"Aleksander Morozova? He died, so unless he's a vampire Grisha I don't think so. Yes, we live a long life but we don't live that long." Mother said
"Baghra is still alive, she was your trainer and she was my trainer. She wanted a peace between the bloodlines of Sun and Shadow so she wanted to make the arrangement for her son to marry the first Sun Summoner daughter I had." Father said, "Amara, the initials AM appeared on our daughter's neck!"
Mother stepped back knowing the initials showed the soulmate's name on the Grisha, she looked at me scared for once. She walked over and picked me up holding me close like she wouldn't let me go.
"Mama?" I asked finally speaking up but she just cradled me in her arms like something was going to take me away. "When do we leave for Ketterdam? I won't let General Kirigan have my baby so easily." Mother said
"We'll leave in a month, that way I can go make arrangements with my parents in Keramzin or we could just go to Keramsin." Father said
"It would be safer than crossing the fold to get to the boat and more protection for Amira." Mother said
After a month they uprooted our lives from Poliznaya to Keramzin where we stayed with my grandparents Catalina De La Rosa-Silina and Jorge Silina. I had very little contact with the outside world unless I was with one of them and I refused to use my Grisha powers outside the house. When testers were brought to Keramzin to test children I was sent to the basement where I was to stay while they watched the Grisha testers. This became my life over the next several years that they kept sending me to the basement every time it was time for the testers.
Mother would always say it was so I didn't have to grow up without them so that I wasn't like the other Grisha who were taken from their homes. Still, sometimes I felt that familiar tingling on my neck and I looked around worried.
"He's close.." I said though no one heard me while I was in the basement, "he's in the town."
Why am I panicking again? I'm safe..mama and papa wouldn't let anyone take me but what if I meet him someday..how do I avoid him? I thought
After I reached the age past the testing of children I didn't have to hide anymore but the news of human deaths was evident. People would find bodies drained of blood but no one ever knew who it was. Mother said it wasn't the group in the fold, that people were trying to cross every day but that the vampires in the fold lost their eyesight and so they rely on hearing movement. A heartbeat wasn't going to help them much if there were many heartbeats.
"So who is the vampire draining the people?" I asked my parents and grandparents
The four adults just looked at me and then at each other knowing that they didn't know. It was clear these were happening at night but the likeliest person wouldn't be able to go out in the sun. We all were quiet but for now, I had four of the best trainers in front of me to help me expand my Grisha power.
What will I do if I meet the General and he finds out we hid from the testers? Will I be forced to the little palace and lose my freedom? Taken from my family like the children who have before? I thought
"People think a Sun Summoner can get rid of the fold and destroy the vampires from within." Grandma Catalina said as she kneeled down and took my hands in hers ''You one day may be the one to do this. Just don't fall prey to any trances of a vampire." She added with a wink.
For the rumors of a vampire were just that..a rumor. Someone could just be playing a prank and this all blows over soon enough.
