Chapter 26 - I Like You Too
Bonnie carefully moves his guitar so it's resting on his leg while holding up the neck with his right hand. Looking down at the instrument, the musician ponders on what songs he knows he can play halfway decently. "Hmmm... I overheard one older sister playing some music on her phone a bit loud. I was able to hear what the music was, but I can only remember the beginning part." Taking a moment to prepare himself, Bonnie starts strumming a few notes and chords before the tempo finally gets up to speed as confidence returns to the rabbit.
The feline hops back up onto the stage so she can sit next to him while watching and listening to him play. A smile stretches across her face seeing him so comfortable with his guitar. It almost reminds her of how in-the-zone she can get while telling stories with Foxy to the kids.
As the song progresses to the chorus, his tempo starts to decline. Even though he's only been playing for a minute, as the song gets ready to change to the chorus, Bonnie suddenly stops playing. Letting the existing sound echo out from the instrument, the musician turns his head to his companion now seated beside him. "That's all I can remember," he says a bit shyly before turning his attention back to the guitar.
"That was really well done, Bonnie," Kitten says with a smile before she leans her head on his shoulder, and Bonnie suddenly tenses up at this action.
Pausing for a moment to gather up a few words, the rabbit smiles sweetly and a bit nervously. "Th-thank you... I'm glad you liked it."
Feeling his tensed-up form, the pirate straightens herself again to remove her head from his shoulder. "S-sorry for making you feel uncomfortable…" she says apologetically as her ears fold downwards a bit sadly. She really doesn't want to become more of a problem than she already feels like she is.
Hearing the shift in her tone, Bonnie turns himself to face the redhead with slight panic in his motions and tone. "No, it's okay! You never make me uncomfortable! At all! I just…" He turns his head away, lays the guitar flat on his lap, and sighs softly before continuing his thought. "I can't act the same around you…"
"Wait... Why not?" she asks with a tilt of her head, one of her feline ears flicking up in curiosity as she turns to look at the shy rabbit.
Bonnie moves his body forward again so his legs can dangle off the edge of the stage comfortably. "I just can't be normal around you…" he finally admits to her before setting his guitar down beside him. "I'm shy, but not this shy… My face gets so hot and red, my heart beats a thousand beats in seconds…" Bonnie sighs and crosses his arms, then rests his arms on his knees while leaning forward slightly as he continues trying to explain his emotions to Kitten, but failing. "I just… I don't know…"
Listening to him talk about how he truly feels while being around her, it brings a smile and a light pink blush to her face. "Then this might be nice to hear," Kitten says before standing up and walking around to be in front of him. She gently takes his hands into hers as he sits up slightly, then takes a deep breath before saying what has also been on her mind as of late. "I like you, too."
Those four words are quick to catch the rabbit's attention. Staring at their hands for a minute, not quite believing what he thinks he's hearing, Bonnie looks up very slowly at the feline with hope glinting in his red eyes. "Really? As in... like... like?" he asks just to be sure there isn't a misunderstanding between them.
Her blush grows and she nods in response. "I... I think so," Kitten smiles sweetly while holding his hands a bit tighter. "I feel safe when I'm around you. I don't know if that means anything really... but I do know that I do enjoy being around you," the redhead finishes explaining with a small giggle.
It takes a few moments for her words to sink in, but once they do, a large smile stretches across his face as well as his blush. "YES!" Bonnie exclaims as he jumps up and pulls his hands away to quickly embrace her. Hugging her tightly and never wanting to break away, the rabbit rests his head on her shoulder and starts smiling like a love-sick dope. "Yes! Yes! Yes!"
"Oh my gosh, you're so cute!" Kitten laughs as she hugs him back. This is a moment she might have only dreamed could happen, but now it's a reality.
"You have no idea how long this has been killing me...! I've been trying to tell you that I like you, but I never could...!" he says while giving her a little nuzzle against her neck.
"Wait, really?" she asks in disbelief. Pulling herself back a bit to look at him, she blushes and smiles.
After she pulls back, the rabbit moves so he can look into her eyes as well. "I... I didn't know what I was supposed to do... but I was so nervous to even tell you that... well…" He's so nervous to talk about how much likes her, Bonnie has to look down to process his thoughts. "I heard that... this is supposedly 'liking' someone, but I also heard that... this could also be called 'love'..." he says with a blush as he glances back up to meet the feline's gaze again.
"I've heard Alyssa talk about love before," Kitten says as she holds his hand. "I think, right now, we just really like each other."
Bonnie chuckles in response as he grasps both of her hands tightly, not wanting to let her go. "I'm okay with that. We can build up to that point sometime... i-if you'd like?" the rabbit suggests with fear of rejection obvious in his tone.
Kitten can't help but smile at him hearing that he wants to be around her just as much as she wants to be around him. "I'd really like that," the redhead replies quietly as she leans forward and rests her forehead against his.
Unbeknownst to the two, Chica makes her way out of the kitchen doors as she walks into the main room while rubbing her stomach. The blonde had just finished her pizza snack and is now feeling satisfied. Walking into the main room, the girl is about to call out to Bonnie to find out where he's at, but she's immediately struck silent seeing Bonnie and Kitten so close together. Covering her mouth to keep any noises she might make from getting out, Chica quietly ducks down behind the closest party table to stay out of sight. Crawling over to the edge of the table, she pokes her head out from around the table legs to watch the two interact.
Getting lost in Bonnie's loving gaze, Kitten can suddenly feel butterflies in her stomach looking at him. "Bonnie...?" she gently says to get his attention, which she does gain.
"Y-yes?" he questions nervously, a million thoughts guessing what question Kitten is about to ask him rushing through his head all at once.
She hesitates again, trying to make sure her words come out correctly. "Would it be too much to ask if…" The pirate's blush grows as she finds herself leaning in towards the bun. "If... you could…" Kitten's words trail off along with her thoughts, now lost in the moment.
Unfortunately, Bonnie isn't quite sure if Kitten is just getting tongue-tied, or maybe she's just sleepy. Either way, one of his ears droops slightly as he waits for her to finish her thought with the utmost curiosity. "Go on...?"
Knowing that the rabbit isn't quite on the same page as her, Kitten sighs with a smile before leaning forward and capturing him in a kiss.
Both Bonnie and Chica's eyes widen at the feline's sudden action. Chica has to slap her other hand to help silence a gasp threatening to escape her mouth. She cannot believe what she's seeing!
Bonnie, on the other hand, after a moment of going completely stiff, his ears standing straight up upon impact, he smoothly relaxes into the action, feeling like he's safe for now. Closing his eyes after finally giving in, he returns the kiss while securing his arms around Kitten's lower back.
After a few moments pass, the pirate slowly pulls away from their moment and smiles. Slowly opening her brown eyes, Kitten looks into Bonnie's red ones. "You alright...?" she asks him softly.
Upon opening his eyes, the feline could have almost sworn she could see hearts in them. "Better than before," he chuckles happily.
Kitten smiles hearing this. "I'm glad." Leaning forward, she rests her head on his shoulder again.
Pulling her back into a tight embrace, Bonnie takes a deep breath before relaxing again as Kitten nuzzles against his neck, wrapping her arms around his upper body.
'Freddy will NOT like this... Should I tell him...?' Chica looks down, saddened by the thought of telling their leader about what she just saw and getting the two of them in trouble. 'But... if I don't tell him, and he knows that I saw... I'll get in trouble, too… I have to get outta here before they notice!' Keeping both of her hands on her mouth, the girl starts her attempt at sneaking away from her crouched position, but after taking a single step forward, Chica ends up stepping and tripping on the ends of her skirt. She manages to withhold a yelp of panic as her hands release her mouth to catch herself on the floor, however, her small tumble causes the girl to fall forward and reveal her hiding place.
"Chica?!"
The blonde hears her name suddenly called by her friends and she freezes up for a moment. Turning to face the two, she can now see that they're both staring at her, no longer in each other's arms. Bonnie is completely frozen where he stands from the pure shock and mild anger of her presence, and his face has gone nearly completely white. Kitten's face is a hot red from the embarrassment of being caught in the act and she looks extremely nervous in the face. "Um…" Chica smiles cutely, albeit very nervously, as she holds up her hand, making it look like she's holding something very tiny between her pointer finger and thumb. "I… lost a contact lens...?" The two could almost see a sweat drop fall down the younger girl's face.
"You don't wear contacts...!" Kitten says with a slightly upset tone seeing that Chica would try and lie her way out of this situation, but her attitude is definitely more worried than angry. Hesitating for a moment, the pirate eventually asks the question that's on both her and Bonnie's mind. "H-how much did you see...?"
"Um…" Standing up, the blonde moves her hands behind her back as she looks away nervously. Out of habit, Chica begins to rock back and forth on her heels and toes as she talks. "Mmm… Mostly… when you two were… going to kiss...?"
The rabbit's heart begins to beat faster now realizing just how much Chica actually did see. "You… saw… tha…" Unable to finish his sentence, Bonnie's eyes roll back as he falls backward, fainting in front of the two girls.
